It seems that the age of hammers has passed (that is, a time when hammers were the end all of skating) and skaters are now focusing more and more on developing their own independent esthetic.

Is this an accurate picture, if so, what are your thoughts on what factors might have caused this development and to what extent do you think this development is positive?

In the past the easiest way to stand out from the crowd was to find the biggest baddest stunt and be the first and/or only person to land it.

There’s a reason the leap of faith was such a huge phenomenon for years, someone simply wanted to hold the title that nobody had yet to accomplish.

I think our industry has started to mature, and somewhat grew out of this phase. It seems like people are more accepting of a different kind of skating, with more variety and individuality.

I definitely believe this is a step in the right direction. They say “variety is the spice of life” and that should apply to blading as well. [...]

I was able to catch up with the man himself on thursday to try and catch a couple blade deals to finish up his section. BS has been killin it the whole past year and will soon show you why (in my opinion of course) is one of the best shredders around, and I would just say park shredding, but he kills everything so no sence in saying park only. What kind of obstacles do you like to skate the most in blading?

Anything that’s made of cement. Preferably a buttery ledge or some random, out of the ordinary obstacle.

In chestboarding you can skate flat ground and become a millionaire. Do you think one could be pro in the blade game and never skate handrails or gnarly stunts? Why or why not? How important is the danger factor in getting clips in blading?

That’s probably because they’ve created an image and personality that people are curious enough about to follow. It’s all about being unpredictable so people wonder what’s next.

As far as the danger factor, no it doesn’t matter.

There’s been pros in blading throughout the years that skate “safe” but you still want to see every section they put out. [...]

I had to double up the sunpaks in order to match the power out put of the ab800.

In addition I usually shoot with my sunpaks at 1/2 power so the duration is quick enough to freeze the movement…
