VG 23: Kevin Yee Leftovers section

quoting a mail from Kevin Yee:
Hey guys, this is a throwback edit of my VG 23 days. But all unused clips!
Late Spring cleaning found a pile of aged VG 23 footage. Along with all the used footage, there was a plethora of interesting grinds, body slides, kicks, wallrides, falling dominoe tricks that didn’t make the cut into VG.
Before dumping it all into the trash bin to clear room for the upcoming Shock Video footage I decided to make a throwback edit.
Watching this footage has helped me remap and integrate those shred forests of San Diego where Saven crew dwelt in the early 2000’s.
It was as true then as it is now that we are Saven by rollerblading, though, since I have learned that to stay Saven one has to remain Lost in Shred Forest (or in Tommyboy’s words, continue to ShOcK on the blades).

highest props for doing what you want
some was great, some wasn’t quite there in my humble opinion
i still prefer to see this over an attempt to imitate something that has been done before, and better.
May 26th, 2009 at 12:45 pm
makes you see how anything can be tricked on with a bit of imagination,
rollerblading should appreciate people digging up old skool creativity like this, it coulda just gone in the bin and i for one am glad i saw it..
so cheers.

so sick! Yee is rollerblading! I remember seeing his vg section and trying all the stuff he did. so f’ing hard. SHOCK INDEEEEEEED!
May 26th, 2009 at 9:16 pm
this is 6 to 7 years old remember. So progressive. Just wait for his new shit to drop. Kevin is a the biggest shredder holding down SF.
May 27th, 2009 at 6:34 am
remember that 10 years ago that DL was on that shit. and even before DL, there were all the old school rollers holding it down. just watch vg6 shit from the aussies. therefore, no, kevin isn’t actually progressive… rolling was quite creative since day 1 — we’re just seeing a revival of more tricks. however, honestly, sliding on your fucking pants isn’t exactly anything. ledoux has more shit on lock than failkevin. let’s stop glamorizing every single trick that is remotely “different” than we think we’re used to seeing; again, that shit’s been done before. he doesn’t have a fucking patent on any of those tricks. also, if i’m not mistaken, a rat from the midwest is not a SF native… no one blader holds down any one city more than another. get it straight. alas, i’m gonna go do pencil 720s while holding my dick: that’s progressive. wow. sooo creative.
May 27th, 2009 at 6:36 am
oops. DL’s footage from B_F_G was 10+ years ago. and feinberg at that time was pretty intense too. shredding. lol. failblading.
May 27th, 2009 at 12:08 pm
this made VG die a horrible death
May 28th, 2009 at 12:00 am
ummm.. B_F_G was not 10+ years ago idiot. And do you have a problem with the fucking midwest. I’m not allowed to live in California because I grew up in Ohio. Fuck you. All the pros in SF moved out to Santa Ana basically, Kevin rips not only tricks but blades for transportation and helped organize our now flourishing Tuesday Night Skate that unites most of the Bay Area. I’d say that’s a lot for a fucking rat. Nobody is glamorizing tricks that are remotely different. We are respecting them. Rollerblading is a lot like art criticism. You don’t have to like it, but you can appreciate it.
May 28th, 2009 at 10:09 am
actually, if you read what i wrote, i said “footage” was from earlier. i made sure to write “footage.” also, i was also very clear about the “from the midwest” part — and NOT a SF native — because i was simply pointing out that there are indeed actual natives that rip just as hard. that’s also FACT. i’m saying that one can’t disregard all other people for one who’s not even from the area. how long has he lived in SF? really. two years max? that’s not the issue. my issue is that ALL bladers hold down a region, not just one, including visitors. all who are dedicated pull just as hard. so let’s say you still lived in ohio and someone from SF moved there… technically, they would NOT be a native… again, just pointing out that natives holding down a region for years and years should deserve a little more footage than some kid not from the area. maybe in 10 years we’ll start talking “native” status.
and last i checked, kevin didn’t organize tuesday nights… ivan, victor, vinny, and so forth were holding tuesday nights at walnut creek since the park was nascent. i’m pretty sure some credible sources will be able to confirm this. again, other rollerbladers unite an area. all come out. just cuz one person says, “hey, let’s meet…” that doesn’t make them any more special than the support that comes out to roll. that’s the salient issue. so, yeah, he’s nobody special. get over it. all bladers who are dedicated are equals.
honestly, too, nobody is trying to be an ass. i was very clear about what i wrote. i didn’t deride anyone; i didn’t write “fuck you” to any other blader; i was very factual and tried to convey as cogently as possible that one blader doing certain tricks is NOT the end all of “progression,” as you made it “sound.” really, though, i believe arlo made the best comment about the “anything goes” in rollerblading is exactly where tricks like pantsliding might just take “creativity” a bit too far… so, i actually don’t have to like or appreciate it cuz i’m not trying to be a critic — cuz critics don’t do shit but sit around and critique. i roll, and i support ALL dedicated rollerbladers — not any one celebrity. we’re not pop, and we’re not fucking american idol. i state facts, buddy, not conjecture.
but since you’re going that route: i don’t ride on one rollerblader’s jock, as you made yourself sound when groveling about kevin yee. nice. i can act middle ages too. pencil/stiffy 720s for days. spin to win with maximum failshred. also, i lol’d when someone from above wrote he should stab himself in the face. lol. good times on the INTERNETS.

kevin has always been unorthodox and he always will be, he’s way smoother if you watch him today, and i agree that he adds a lot to our SF scene. it actually makes me proud of him to see this old footage and to realize that the talented, creative skater i know today came from this younger, sometimes awkward version of himself. kevin has and always will be a very entertaining skater to watch. thanks for sharing, kevin, some of those slams were insane! the one where you landed in the water OUCH!!
