The “Art of Rolling”: Free NYC Webzine

Art of Rolling

New York City photographer Angelo Ferrer is working on creating a new magazine and last night he released it online for FREE! The first issue of the “Art of Rolling” zine features a ton of pictures of NYC’s finest rollerbladers (like Alex Nunez and Trevor Johnson) that Angelo took personally.

Thanks irollny.

you really need to step up your layout man. the pics was ruined by the weak design.
sry. you need to make it look like someone thats not retarded did the layout before you get my vote.

you no what i dont need no fancy desgn to go around my photos the pictures speak for themselves, and im trying to do somthing in nyc that noones has done with the limited amount of resources to do it,,, im a photographer and a skater im not a graphic desgner or a master web orginazer man if u feel like hating then u make a better zine for your state, its one thing to do somthing for money but we are doing this outtah love and every cent comes from our pockets, i dont need to put swirlly lines and poka dots around my skaters pictures for that u can get be-mag or one and u can spend hours checking out the flowers and lighting bolts graphics when it boils down to it this is our first zine and we will learn and get better and have other people contribute there skills in other areas, and if the pictures where ruind by a weak desgn then your are notttttt grasping the point to this, skating doesnt need to be spoofed up by glammor, i love what i do and i am trying to repersent nyc and show people from everywhere else who are some of the skaters we got and what they can do im not trying to have a lack of skill for graphic desgn take away from what these skaters deserve and like i said if u can do better then u do better, if your going to hate this zine just to hate it then understand your messing up the skating industry as a whole its people like you that use your opinions for the negative meanwhile what xzactly are you contributing thats positive… and for those who like it i will keep up the zines threw out the year no matter if i have a graphic desgner or not you will be able to see the skaters from nyc right here.. thanks koubis for supporting this and hopefully this will be much bigger in the near future.. peace

Nice eye! Lots of interesting angles and lines in there. My favorites, and the most original thing I noticed was how amazing the landscape shots were, and it was like the skater was just thrown in there as an afterthought. Wonderful blend of the two.
The layout doesn’t matter. At least you were able to get some of these great shots shared because they’re well composed and interesting to look at. Keep doing what you’re doing!

Downloading Indesign on emule doesn’t means beeing a graphic designer.

  10. carlos Says:

    good to see those pics.
however i think some are really pixelated i dont know why…
it would be good if you wrote the location on each photo too.
and then a suggestion, you don’t need to be a graphic designer, or spend money, if you want to organize the photos a bit better.

i dont think black and white do the photos or the skaters justice in this case..the layout needs the touch of someone who is skilled in such things..its obviously one guy trying to do everything. much props for the effort but id rather get it right the first time and start off on a good note then to have a long list of mistakes to correct.u only get one first impression.much props for the idea.

First issue or not, this is a very weak demonstration of a ‘web magazine’. This is a good as a Junior High School yearbook for special ed kids.

The NYC skate scene really needs to step their game up, big time! Cause you guys are as close to being irrelevant as ever. This and every other media release (aside of B Unique and Paz/Brotherly Love products) has been mediocre at best. The truth hurts, so don’t bother with responding with hate-filled comments cause all you do is justify how insecure and wack you really are. Just learn from it and keep it moving. And if the next project is equally as wack, then just do yourself a favor and quit while you are ahead.

or how about you link me to your zine that is the guidelines on which to work with,,, this is a printed zine straight outtah a copy machine and distributed among skaters, iv seen worse zines out there and since u have nothing to show for what your doing and how your stepping your game up maybe u should just ethier help out or shut up, only reason we made it to a pdf was to spread it around on the web, other then that its printed off school copy machines and at kinkos, this shit comes from my heart and since u feel like hating but have nothing to offer other then your words, then ima keep on making them an keep on puttin them out, if u want better quality better format then u should donate money or your services other wise go down play other forms of rollerblading since its all the same. i exspected some hating but to be honest i put alot of time into this so i know that if u where to make one that ud see how hard it was but since u havent made one then you wouldt know about the time that goes into this, all you know how to do is sit home on your computer and type negative things,,

What did you expect homie, positive comments? This work is very mediocre, at best half way decent. What YOU should do, Mr. Ferrer, is take these comments into consideration and produce a product that is well thought out and something that REPRESENTS ROLLERBLADING IN A GOOD LIGHT.

I know you don’t have the means and all but that shouldn’t be an excuse for poor judgement and lack of skills. Technology is so readily available these days that you can acquire Illustrator or Photoshop and learn the basic of these apps within less than week. The photos look decent but I agree with another comment posted above, B&W does not look flattering for an action shot. I commend you for trying but seriously dude, you really need to step your game up. And with you responding to my comments, justifies my sentiments on how insecure and wack you are. Now just keep it moving, homie.
