Taig Khris announced at a french broadcast (mid june), that he will jump from the first floor (100m, 328 ft) of the Rockfeller Center in NYC.
He will drop 60m (197 ft) tied to an elastic, detach himself and then land on rollerblades. He almost got all the authorisation required for this.

so i guess the idea here is to jump 60m tied to an elastic, and then you have 40m left: drop around 8.5m and finally land on a quarter pipe.

If he is going to do it, fine, but he better land it. He clearly wants to bring attention to himself, and not our community. If he wanted to introduce people to our sports, do actual tricks that we do, and please stop doing outrageous stunts that you never land. I just don’t understand it, you get the funding for these insane stunts, but you don’t land them (Rolling 10feet and then loosing control does not count).
So if you are going to do this Taig, please actually land it.

Will be very intriguing to see how many new rollerbladers will be being created as a result of these stunts.
On the one hand, I really don’t like to see rollerblading represented this way, I mean, neither of the previous two stunts have been landed, not to mention the lack of money that seems to go from these projects back into rolling itself and the fact that there are people capable of bigger/better things with it that truly represent the sport (imagine Aragon/Haffey/Yasutoko’s and what they could do with the superman frontflip stunt, real tricks such as flatspins etc).
On the other hand, the people who buy rollerblades from legit companies are the ones that matter. Taig has now done two big stunts in France, which has always had one of the world’s strongest scenes in terms of street, whilst New York also has one of the most concentrated pools of street talent in the world.
You’d think that the people involved in these communities will be able to inspire/guide any new folk that pop up about the place and lead them in the right direction. So although we may not appreciate the tree from which these new seeds may have fallen, we as individuals and communities should be able to cultivate them into sick rollers who will, over time, understand the need to support our industry through the right channels.
Long-term, we may ironically stand to benefit from all this, regardless of how sh*t it’s making us look in the short-term. Young kids generally don’t buy rollerblades because they see true mizous on a rail and I suspect many who rolled in the 90′s got inspired by vert riders wearing K2′s and Rollerblades to get skates but became street rollers in the long-run buying USD’s or Razors and rocking Senate or Mindgame threads. Who’s to say that in a few years time we won’t have a host more kids who started off wearing bike helmets absolutely murdering sh*t in Carbons, Valo lights or Xsjado mould 2′s?
We just can’t know for sure and we’ve benefited (albeit not financially) from adversity before. The strength residing in our underground subculture stemmed almost directly from the hate we got from skateboarders, almost the definition of the “extreme” sport counter-culture model and that taught us the lessons we needed to ensure that those representing our companies were rollers themselves, hence companies like Valo and Create Originals. As such, should money come back into rollerblading, we’ll now be better placed than before to stave off a recession in our activity and to put the money to damned good use. That’s a good thing, which came from something negative. Perhaps history will repeat itself-one way or another, we shall see.

Just to let everyone know that the last few stunts taig has done have been broadcasted in South Africa on our local news channel and the people I have spoken to thought it was pretty cool, So I guess he doing something right.
I just wish he would involve some more pro skaters and make it less about him and more about the general rolling community.
If like 4 or 5 pros were doing something for a public audience, half vert skaters, half street skaters, this would better showoff the rolling community as a whole!

Why cant use all that money for events and sponsoring one guy , whose time is long over due, and use the money to sponsor real rollerbladers . The ones who dont go to talk shows and training facilities to train “how to land and jump ” . Why not the roller bladers who talk time through out the day and skate actual spots with no fear? I said it the other day, and I think rollerblading may be on the right track with things like the NYC invitational and the BLADE game with Haffey and Aragon. For the first time in a long time, there seems to be some kind of separation for the top level rollerbladers. This at least gives something to show to people outside of the rollerblading community if we could get a crack at something.
It still drives me fucking crazy that rollerblading never gets a spot at all on fuel TV. That station covers everything, fucking everything but rollerblading.

I still have a question, and I still have no answer for it. Does the general public associate Taig Kris and his stunts with “our” kind of rollerblading? It sucks, but rollerblading needs to get back on the X Games. That seems to be the only place the general public feels safe enough to explore “extreme” sports. The comfort and backing of ESPN allows everyone to feel safe enough to view rollerblading. Otherwise, large corporate sponsors and silly “X Treme” stunts make the public ok with rollerblading for a short time.
And somewhere in my response I have completely understood your problem with Taig. It should be Aragon, Haffey, or someone else doing this. Not to sound fruity, but those guys are at least presentable looking. So, I don’t get it.

I think it’s true that many outsiders would think that the other two stunts are entertaining or interesting to the mass audiences, regardless of a successful landing or not. And about what someone said about the Ryan Sheckler show, yeah I agree, I bet many skateboarders hated that. Personally I would hate to see rolling blow up like sk8boarding. There are two side to this …. 1.it would bring more people into the sport- what does that do-more money, more people, more respect, more haters, more coverage, more posers, more BS-people wanting to ‘cash in’, etc, it’s a trade off- there are ups and downs–personally I’d prefer to see rolling stay underground, as an outcast sport;I think it’s good the way it is;I mean sure it may be hard to make a living in this sport, but really, money ruling the world is what is wrong with the world, and without this we can be more certain that the people who are in it do it because they truly love it. @Eric: dude that’s not how art becomes valuable. It’s taken into consideration only after people who aren’t artist but experts in the field and the public accept the artist work as valuable. Same in skating. We the artist don’t matter cause of course we will talk shot. The public that don’t know or didn’t care is what will make this community grow and the companies rich again. I jope he does tryy it but tho@ time he lands it fully cause he did land the last one just not for long. It would be nice to see him grab air on the other side. My only hope and wish in this topic is solely what’s best for rolling period. Haffey isn’t’ it Not to say that Taig is but we do need a lot more limelight in order to grow fast. Making sick websites of you and your friends doing slits and having skating footage only works if people are willing to go to the site. Everyone has a tv, not e anyone has a pc. Taig males more sense bit he does need help. Maybe a yasutoko brother and a really good street skater to further insure the chances of this one going better.
