Note the different skates on each foot, red = street setup ; blue = ice skating setup.

quoting Oli Benet:

Before joining The Conference I would be a massive fan of constantly trying new products or skates, and would do so until I found the perfect skate for me, and after a few pairs of that model I would begin to start investigating new skates once more.

For me, when changing skates you get a great chance to learn new tricks. Theres no doubt that some skates are better for some tricks, and worse for others. In this way I would perfect new moves before moving onto another pair of skates.

When I joined Deshi it gave me the chance to really focus on one model, and learn to use the skates to the best of my ability. Occasionally I would get the itch to try other skates, and spend some time skating USD Realms, USD Legacy and USD VII skates.

For some reason I never had the urge to skate Xsjados. I once tried a friend’s Xsjados in a park and thought they felt terrible.

However on this last tour we did, we were sent one pair of Xsjados too many. I had me beautiful Deshi Carbons, which I was more than happy with, but realising we were going to be in front of many skaters wishing to see new skates, I decided to give them a try. [...]

These skates are out now and I love them!”

[Skater_punk] Ok, what’s your full name, sponsors, where do you live and for how long have you been skating?

[Oli Benet] My name is Oriol Benet Powell, but more known and preferably so as Oli Benet. I live just outside Barcelona City, Spain.

I am on the Deshi and Undercover team, but I guess you could say im on The Conference team because I get to test out various products from all the brands, especially when a prototype needs testing etc.

I started skating when I was 8, but my first true agressive skates were bought back in 1997, when I saw agressive skating for the first time at Battersea park on the Red Bull Vert. [...]

Oli Benet Interview

Saturday, October 14th, 2006

Taktika: Whats your full name and how old are u?

Oli: Oriol Benet Powell and I’m 24

Taktika: Where have u born and where do u live at the moment?

Oli: I was born in Greenwich, London, and I lived there until I was 15 years old. Then I moved to Barcelona, Spain, where i live now.

Taktika: Do u have any idols in skating? Why they are?

Oli: I dont really have idols, more than idols i would say that I have people who inspire me when I skate, and they are my close friends. Let’s move on to skating and working side of your life.

Taktika: U are skater and work as team manager for Conference; can u please tell us how much are u skating and how much do u have to work in office- whats your daily routine?

Oli: Generally i will start work at about 9 to 9.30 am, and go over emails. I usually get maybe 30 – 70 emails a day to do with conference, from the team, from designs we are making, web developements, improvements, ideas, texts, reviews, press releases…usually at around 6 pm i will go for a skate locally, and then come home at about 11pm and work till about 3 am, when its easyest to work, more quiet and easier to think of new projects and ideas!

Taktika: Do u think that USA still is most influential country in World’s aggressive inline skating? What can or is changing it?

Oli: I think the USA is the most influential country in everything, not just skating, but maybe because we don’t look at how amazing the scene is here. There are so many amazing european skaters and comps like the IMYTA amsterdam show this. Still there are huge competitions and big names in the US, so there will always be a strong influence coming from there. We should also focus on european riders and european videos to make the industry strong as a whole, after all, the widest share in the market is Europe and Russia etc.
