Roll in Peace: Brian “Cozmik” Scott

brian scott

A Personal Remembrance of Brian Scott:

Cozmik wasn’t apart of just one family or just one community.

He was, and still is, apart of our family and our community.

Brian’s presence was so strong felt that there is not one skater in New York City who didn’t know who we was.

He was easily recognizable among others by his hair and the wristband he always wore. His talent and progression is something we all took notice to. [...]

ROLL IN PEACE: Brian “Cozmik” Scott:

If everything went the way we wanted, then Brian Scott would have continued to impress the skaters around him and would have eventually established himself among the long line of great skaters in NYC.

The title “great” has been thrown around a lot in NYC, but I think we need to look into the word “great” and compare it to Cozmik and see what the two had in common.

Cozmik was a great friend to many, and made great jokes, he had great skating skills, and had a great inner personality.

He was grateful for what skating had done for him, and skating was grateful for what he has done for it.

When it comes down to it, “great” may be an understatement.

The word we are looking for to define this great human being may not even exist.

If we as fellow skaters felt his presence this strongly then imagine the family that was fortunate enough to have known him for years… [...]

    RIP, somethings need 2 change!

  2. seriously... Says:

    RIP roller.

I don’t want to turn this memorial on RN into any kind of political forum but:

guns and gun culture are ridiculous in the US, totally out of control. you guys need to cut that shit out. this story is really quite sad considering he was a bystander. gun manufacturers and rights groups have too much political strength to be stopped, so it’s up to people like us (and other future generations) to NOT promote the NEED to have a gun.

ridiculous. my condolences to his family and friends.

  3. onelovenohate Says:

i just heard about this yesterday, and i must admit i’ve cried several times thinking about it, even though i’m here in cali and i never got to meet brian. maybe it’s because they described him as humble and quiet and i can relate, maybe it’s because he had a simple dream that many of us can relate to, to be a pro skater and now that dream is shattered. “The quiet teenager expressed himself by rollerblading.” That would have described me to a T when i was a teenager. Poor kid, he was innocent! and so young! it’s just too sad. My thoughts will be with the family for some time to come.

  4. COMOTOS Says:

    RIP, BRIAN SCOTT.

    Rip, Brian Scott
    Guns… so sad

  7. Aaron Says:

Whenever any of us leaves this world, it always hits the community hard. No matter if you’re well-known, world-renown, or just somebody who skates a bit on the weekends. Somebody knows who you are, and before the week is out, everybody in our culture knows of the lost and mourns for our fallen brother or sister. Everybody is going to remember Brian in their own way. Some will take the day off and stay at home, giving him a ‘moment of silence’ kind of day. But if you skate today, skate for him; skate your damned best for him.

R.I.P Brian. You gotta massive family down here and we all will miss you.

  8. craig Says:

Hey just wanted to say thanks for posting about Cozmik. It means a lot.

  9. Casey Says:

Definitely one of the worst blows to the RB community. My next session is dedicated to him. R.I.P. he sounded like a great person. I hope that his friends continue to skate, and never forget what kind of person he was.

  10. Smashing Dumplings Says:

Im from the UK and I do think that the guns are to rife in America, however that could happen anywhere because if a man wants a gun he will get a gun no matter where in the world he is.

Having said that America never ceases to amaze me with some of its backwards policies for example its the only place in the world whereby you can go in a store and freely buy a bullet launching pistol yet some states or local governments require a permit to legally sell, possess, or use firecrackers!! all due to the 2nd amendment.

Some people don’t value their lives or the lives of others in any such way, put a gun in such a persons hand and the results are horrific :(

My thoughts go to Brian, his family and friends

I couldn’t have said it any better. I’m man enough to admit that i shed tears when i saw Brian’s post on the front page and I am now as I write this. Please, everyone, think about what’s happened today, remember what’s happened today, remember the sorrow you feel and remember the sorrow on the faces of Brian’s family and friends and for god’s sake just be a little kinder to the people around you tomorrow, and the day after, and the day after that. This bright young kid has died for nothing, for no reason at all, but maybe we who are left behind can learn just a little from him and his death. I’m sure Brian would want us to.

Goodbye, Cozmik. I never met you, I never knew you, but you were one of us. You were one of us, so I’ll miss you.

everybody wants to be a gangster though.
people should leave songs with gun references out of their edits for a while.
    out of respect.

  31. angeloF Says:

thanks for posting this, The world of skaters need to know who we lost, If u skated in nyc then you know him and hopefully threw this post people outside of nyc an the usa can know who he was, We need publicity to help get this case solved i will not rest untill we can put enough pressure on the police to have this case solved, the night before this happen a white gay guy was beaten up and a surveliance video with worse quality caught the crime, because it was a gay bias crime it got so much publicity that they caught the criminals, we need to let the world know that we are not going to rest until we find that coward who took his life,

for those of u blaming this on the USA just understand a bunch of us live in this three letter USA, alot of intentions are out there and weather they ban guns or dont, people know what is wrong and what is right and people choose to do right and some people choose to do bad, dont blame a country on its people that live in it,

  51. CrimZonLSx Says:

R.I.P. Sad story to hear NO PARENT SHOULD EVER EVER!!!! have to bury their child… My deepest condolences to all his mourning loved ones.

On a side note to the people talking about taking guns away. I will gurantee the gun used was a stolen, non-registered weapon. There are laws to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people like the one that too Brian’s life, but for those who seek them hard enough and have money there will always be a gun for sale. If you take guns away period there will be no good people who have permits for them to save the lives of innocent people. I am 100% positive that if there were someone near who was trained and carried a concealed weapons permit the outcame may have been different. If you take guns away from everyone then the people who are responsibe, and noble enough to defend those who don’t will have no way to protect people from the mother fuckers who buy guns off the street to kill people. After all we don’t have enough cops to put one on every corner to prevent things like this, but there are enough responsible people out there with guns to help prevent things like this from happening, so to just take guns away period would be a very stupid thing to do.

  52. ninja9 Says:

How is a nobleman to know wether or not the guy shooting is doing it for a justifiable reason unless the nobleman himself is being shot at or his good friend maybe, in most situations I dont think you would be able to make the decision. Im not on either side of the gun issue b/c I dont live in the U.S or know enough about it. I heard that America is the only developed country in the world to have the same murder rates as a country at civil war.

    Anyway, my condolences, RIP

  53. sarah ann Says:

I’m broken up about this. I do not even know this baby and i am breaking inside. And he so adorable having fun on the video. Listen, whether our sons are chinese white indian black or whether they are our daughters it hurts us all. I love cosmik . I hope someone speaks up because if you saw what happened and you know that guy who did it and are not saying anything, then you are just as guilty . You better say something now. Hurry up. Its better to tell now rather than wait.

  54. CrimZonLSx Says:

Ninja9 You cannot compare Americas murder rate to other developed countries who have less than 1/4 of the population of America. It’s only common sense that there will be more murders here than in a country with tens of millions less people, and yes you obviously don’t know much about America to begin with. Obviously you aren’t trained how to handle situations where you would have to make the decision to draw your weapon or not, but you cannot tell people who are trained how they will handle it. For those who could witness a shooting of an unarmed man and not do anything doesn’t have the right to carry a weapon in the first place. Like I said the purpose of concealed weapons permits are to protect yourself and others around you from mindless criminals who don’t have the brains to justify right from wrong.

  55. keir Says:

I am really sorry to hear this. Sorry to the family, this is tragic.

  58. PM Says:

I knew Brian, I’ve skated with him in Queens several times, he was a promising skater as are many in nyc, that eventually either fall are keep trying with the rolling life. Now for this to happen, well it’s a tragedy but what can we do? Just skate, for the UKers out there that have to criticize America, well you can say what you want but does it matter? A fellow skater dies by some ignorant ghetto fucks, and you have to go and cry about America and its gun policy, yeah its a problem and its not the point of this article to begin with. Just morn for the kid and shut the fuck up. If guns were illegal they’d still me in America as much as they are now.

All I’m going to say for Brian is I have retired from skating, but I’m going to have one last sess for him.
