K2 Varsity Skates: Another Pic & More Infos

Well it’s been a while, but now K2 is officially releasing another aggressive skate to add into the mix. Our neighborhood friendly K2 rep just dropped by the shop the other day to show us the new K2 Varsity Skate which is set to be released very soon.
This fresh new K2 Varsity Skate features a new soul plate which is such to turn heads. They’ve gone a different direction toward more of a hardboot style soul, contrary to their classic K2 Fatty Skate.
More Infos on RW.
Thanks Matthew.

So sick, new souls look like such an improvement on the old ones. Loved all the old K2′s, i hope these are up to standard…
September 3rd, 2009 at 1:41 pm
So basically they added a soulplate under the old k2 soulplate, very smart… they look like legacys now.
Ugliest skates ever, what if you contract some designers with a little sense of beauty?
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:20 pm
Not the greatest looking but stoked they are making a come back … Bet the Varsity 2′s will be the better looking ones
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:13 pm
I really like then as there different, compared with all the modern looking skates also look like they would skate nice
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:44 pm
let’s hate, thats easy!
Thanks k2 for a new aggressive skate,
using the fatty boot and adding a new soul seems like a perfect plan,
just like usd classic thrones..with new souls.
Im not a big fan of the versity jacked style, but perhaps the next version
of the skate wil have a more sneakerlike boot. like this http://theshoegame.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/al2.JPG
that would be nice…period..
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:48 pm

September 3rd, 2009 at 4:55 pm

September 3rd, 2009 at 5:10 pm
K2 is retarded, K2 Suck !
September 3rd, 2009 at 5:19 pm
Now if we could just get Salomon back
September 3rd, 2009 at 5:34 pm
i think after the retarded mass response of this skate being ugly id think their research market manager should be looking into shit like that.
i like the skate, but then again K2 did disappear when times got tough.
anything thats going to help the industry is welcome, dont you get it?
its time people stop being babies about it and think about the global aspect of rollerblading, not just style.
plus most of the people on here didnt rollerblade when k2 was huge anyway so its not really that big of a surprise that people dont like the style of their skates.
k2 is sick, stop hating, they’ll obviously change it up.
September 3rd, 2009 at 5:34 pm
solomons were a great skate much better than any k2 skate ever made. only if they could come up with a better ufs soul plate- before the ufs solomon had the skate to beat! bring back my old st-9′s!
September 3rd, 2009 at 5:50 pm
k2 one tip, MARKET RESEARCH! know your audience! i find it seriously hard to believe that someone can be this stupid. really.
September 3rd, 2009 at 6:20 pm
market research indeed… i love k2 but damn.. does it come with a scarf??
September 3rd, 2009 at 7:10 pm
i would buy em.. i loved k2
September 3rd, 2009 at 7:18 pm
They suck and look like sock…
September 3rd, 2009 at 7:53 pm
I’d take the K2 Moonboot over this
September 3rd, 2009 at 7:53 pm
K2,ya keep fuckin up , i second the request to bring solomons back one of the best skates made
September 3rd, 2009 at 8:01 pm
Je les ai vues en vrai et ils sont encore plus degeulasses.
si je vois quelqu’un skater avec ça,je lui tire dessus avec une carabine.
September 3rd, 2009 at 8:05 pm
These will sell well when they are on clearance. In all seriousness, that is the only time I would consider putting forth any amount of money on a rollerblade that looked like this. The clearance price would have to be around $50 at most. If they make it to Sports Authority or Sport Chalet, it will be short lived, and if K2 marketing wants to make it clear to the world that they are fucking retards with MBAs and still make this go through to production, they should just start sending these to Big 5.
On the other hand and with regards to marketing, i mean if you’ve ever studied or observed marketing, there is always a spot to fill, by that I mean, skate like Remz, Valos, Razors are considered the “high-end” (boutique) skates and overall, that works best for the rolling industry. There will always be a company that will fill the lower spots regardless of any product and in that regard, K2 fits that company. Honestly, it would suck if a big corporate company came out with a very good product that would rival Remz, Valos, Razors etc and then eat those companies up. That is something you wouldn’t want to see.
September 3rd, 2009 at 8:05 pm
if anyone has anything to say about rolling, this skate and how k2 does business… please tell them that shit and not us…personally i hate this design but wtf k2 was there when i started and i really dont wanna go thru the hassle of calling them and telling them theyre whack but if anyone really gives a rats ass tell k2 that shit. im sure they would love to here a rollerbladers feedback…i still hate the red varsity crap shit….tell them that too while youre there..
September 3rd, 2009 at 8:06 pm
ooo and fail..ya man i feel ya…..good to see a smart person in here.
September 3rd, 2009 at 8:10 pm
ooo and jim! ya man theyre making a fool of us or they really dont have a good k2 team.. somebody call eric garcia up! that skate looks like crap.
September 3rd, 2009 at 8:30 pm
Regardless of wether or not you’re feeling the skate, everyone needs to recognize this is a sign of (hopefully) better times to come for the rollerblading industry.
K2 is a huge company with publicly traded stock on the market.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K2_Sports
THE POINT I AM MAKING IS…. these huge companies don’t put a dime into ANYTHING unless they (and stock holders) expect to see profits in return. This means, that within their marketing team ( who crunch numbers/follow trends within cultures for a living) they are seeing a shift. A shift in numbers and interest returning to rollerblading.
Like some other dude said up there, this is a good thing because the deep pocket of K2 and their marketing will turn many people onto the sport. Meanwhile, the companies we all love (nimh/valo/remz/razors/usd) will see an increase of profits once K2 reels em in.
September 3rd, 2009 at 8:33 pm
already emailed the team lol see if they reply with a thanks..
September 3rd, 2009 at 10:51 pm
slap my original K2 softboot and cuff (both black) on there and we’re rollin’
I wonder if I could buy the souls and make my old Stylepoints UFS.
September 4th, 2009 at 12:13 am

well done!
September 4th, 2009 at 1:21 am

September 4th, 2009 at 5:03 am
i already got a reply, im just waiting on conformation to release some info.
just to let everyone know, this skate is going to be sick, dont knock em before youve seen them in person.
September 4th, 2009 at 5:05 am
and by the way, all the people saying that they dont have market research, trust me, they are on top of it, and they read all of your shitty, pathetic, no life comments.
September 4th, 2009 at 6:28 am
are you serious… who came up with the design..what crowd are you reaching with that design and is it legal to smoke crack while producing a k2 skate….seriously that design is dog doo doo.
September 4th, 2009 at 9:30 am
I like em. I don’t care what anyone else thinks. I’ve NEVER worn a more comfortable skate than K2 and that’s what it’s all about for me.
September 4th, 2009 at 11:05 am
Well that’s just lovely, I hope all the 12th graders don’t forget to pick these up and then roll spider circles around the varsity football jocks in their school, they’ll show them who really deserves that jacket!
September 4th, 2009 at 6:03 pm
same mold
why red ? yuk
September 4th, 2009 at 7:28 pm
It’s a shit skate that’s obviously been created to cash in on kids getting their first pair of rollerblades. From what I can tell the whole thing has been cobbled together from old K2 parts.
September 4th, 2009 at 11:47 pm
Well if you absolutely have to have this ugly as shit skate that uses the same parts as its 10+ year old predecessor the K2 Fatty, wait until atleast a year after it comes out when the price drops. Because it will drop to $100 or less, as all rollerblades do. Just google K2 Fatty and there you go, this skate shows up.
This is just a clever K2 tactic to cash in on rollerblading. First they release this at $200, and over the course of a year, the price keeps dropping by say $20 every month. They still get a return, but its diminishing returns, it ends when the product is probably around $50 to $100. Then by pulling out of the market for a few years, consumers start to forget older products and as a result, K2 pulls their products off the consumer radar. Then they make a “comeback” and release a new half-assed thrown together skate that reuses those same old parts, nothing entirely new from scratch. And here we go again with the K2 Fatty again, oh whoops! I meant Varsity with upgrades! My bad!
They already released the K2 Fatty in the mid 1990s so really aside from some improvements, its still reusing old parts.
September 5th, 2009 at 11:08 am
n’importe quoi……..
September 9th, 2009 at 3:35 pm
ya – K2 kind of needs to earn some trust back in this industry. There is no doubt that they were great skates back in the day. I just hope they do something to CONTRIBUTE to the sport. Then I would be stoked to have them stick around, and continue to improve their product.
BTW – they would clean up if they offered custom skates (like Nike I.D.) They used to do this back in the day for their pro riders. Hyser had such crazy jams when I was growing up in ATL.
September 13th, 2009 at 4:03 pm
I aint rolled in YEARS… but I might just be getting me a pair of these !!!
K2 were sooooo sick… skated sooo good, so controled, I love how people always hated them because of looks and ignored functionality. Guess thats what you get when all you do is roll to look good and fit in, not for the love of what rolling gives back. Everyone hates everything til a Pro gets his feet in them and all of a sudden everyones a lover… makes me giggle. You can spend all your money pimpin the skates to look good, end of the day you aint lookin’ so good on your ass because you lost your function for the price of having pretty feet. I once saw a kid destroy a skate park in a £30 pair of skates from argos… go figure !
October 9th, 2009 at 10:07 pm
This wouldn’t be my main skates. I’d probably skate in em to experiment with. These are the type you keep in the plastic. Seasonal, I guess.
November 15th, 2009 at 12:57 am
“hey man, what’d you letter in?” “designing ugly fuckin skates…wanna try them on?” lol on a serious note, I won’t completely dog them until the jury is out about how they ride etc, and some folks dig that eyesore style, dunno lol.
December 16th, 2009 at 9:27 am
I was so disgusted when I saw these skates I emailed k2′s customer service dept. to let them know how disappointed I was. I have yet to receive a reply. K2 could have made a better carbon skate than The Conference with a revamp of their old King55 platform, with replaceable souls and UFS of course. All I can say about the Varsity is Yikes!
March 17th, 2010 at 7:48 pm
I think you all sound like a bunch of cry babies. I’ve been skating now for 14 years off and on and I can say skates do not make the skater. PERIOD. It shouldn’t matter what they look like. Just be happy to put on a pair of skates and be able to do your thing. 1 more thing, K2 was 1 of the beginners, if not for them many people wouldn’t be where they are today. So quit complaining and start supporting. I started rolling when Rollerblade Tarmacs first came out. Let me tell you skates always have and always will improve.
April 15th, 2010 at 3:02 am
KO, I do like them. I do, really, but I am unsure if they still have the same flaw as their predecessors, in which the cuff setting was the same, and it broke, right around the ankle buckels.
I think I need to write to them personally to find out.
