Franco Shade / Arlo Eisenberg new brand “GOST”

gost

Announcing Big Changes for 2009!

We have all witnessed the evolution of Franco Shade and the Ghost and Knives logo over the past several years. Both the Franco Shade name and the logo have generated a lot of interest in this time. Franco Shade and the Ghost have both become a part of the fabric of streetwear culture in Orange County and beyond.

Now in 2009 Franco Shade and the iconic Ghost and Knives logo will split into two separate companies. Franco Shade will continue on with Joe Navran at the helm and the whole Franco Team intact: Tui, Thomas, Jerm and crew.

Arlo Eisenberg will direct a brand new spin-off company featuring the Ghost and Knives logo, appropriately named GOST (pronounced “ghost”).

Franco Shade will begin a new chapter with its new Hammer icon and will continue to provide the streetwear community with its signature brand of stylish, cutting edge clothing and its often offbeat sense of humor.

GOST will continue the legacy of the Ghost and Knives logo and will carry on the artwork and unique vision of creative director Arlo Eisenberg.

2009 promises to be an exciting year for fans of Franco Shade with a lot more to love! Follow the new direction of both brands at francoshade.com and gostbrand.com.

Happy New Year!

Joe and Arlo
FRSH x GOST

Thanks Ztriggs.

  2. Lukas Says:

    Wow…that´s one stupid move…

Finally a great team in one company and there you go…split em up for the money… come on…

  3. NKV Says:

wtf!!!!!! i don’t get it… most part of the items from the last collections were based on the ghost logo!!!!!!!

  4. rando/mike Says:

not stupid, they have distribution hook ups… get more brands in the market. Make more money because they can.

They don’t make clothes for you, they do it for themselves. People just happen to buy their stuff because it rocks

All I wear is pretty much Franco, now I can wear a franco tee and a Gost hat, and not feel like a brand whore.

    good move, why not.

  5. ineedmoneytoo Says:

When something is working ….you split it ?
Some guyz need money … i
Don’t think twice … sharks do it for you …… Sharks from texas….

  6. Oskars Says:

    i think it ok.

only question: are those two brands will get success they want?

  7. lol Says:

    not a skate company.

It’s a hipster clothing company that just happens to be run by skaters.

  8. satan Says:

it’s not about the money fools, its an artistic direction thing. to be honest it seems absurd that Arlo should work for anyone other than himself. his shit is way to outrageous and i think Joe want to keep it a little more down to earth. they had a good thing going but this is for the best, now FRSH can go back to being FRSH and Arlo can really do his thing without getting censored.

  9. Boury Says:

ARLO YOU ARE FUCKIN LOW BITCH

  10. Boury Says:

I hate skate brands cuz there are millions odf them and still rise new,AND YOU DO THE SAME FUCK YOU

  11. harrie Says:

i dunno, i really hate the designs, i used to like franco shade though…
with the elephant logo thingy but nowadays its ugly as hell

  12. Archayne Says:

Arlo Is God…do Not DARE Diss the father of agressive in line you HERETICS franko shade is a decent company run by decent skaters they just decided to branch out and you guys are slating them over basicly nothing

i personally will be picking up some of the new franco line
    and verry possibly gost too

  13. K-rismatics Says:

    it sucks!!

  14. Rooms Says:

I think that FRSH would have end the ghost and knives thing whatever, I mean, its been a long time they use the same thing, they may need a change…

I’m pretty happy that Arlo will lead this new company ’cause I like that logo.
I will buy it if I like ‘em, not thinking about if they’re tryin’ to get more money… Who don’t want to get more money ?

If you don’t like it, don’t buy it ! That’s how it works, huh.

  15. mike Says:

fuck the rolling industry , the whoel industry is retarded

  16. ralf Says:

    hey arlo,

nice move, always a big step to start a new brand.
i think the ghost used in the franco shade lines is one of the
strongest images used so far, but when u put the logo “gost”
underneath it…it looses its power in my opinion.

    good luck

  17. andreas542 Says:

I’m not convinced about the name “GOST”, I don’t like it very much, I much prefer Franco Shade as a name. On the other hand, I think Arlo designs some truly awesome stuff, and like someone else said, this should mean that he can go crazy and make stuff the way he wants to, so I’m looking forward to seeing it.

I’d like to see Franco bring back the Elephant for one or two ‘nostalgia’ tees, that would be awesome :D

  18. ger Says:

    FRANCO SHADE ELEPHANT PLEASE!

  19. kuntaciacho Says:

duh, this doesnt matter actually. i could easily compare it to negative tricks, ya didnt like it before but after seeing farmer ya start to do it.
just wait to see new frsh/gost projects and yall be buying them.

the only thing that this news brings is that theres going to be twice as much nice clothes to pick, which is definetly good

  20. wtf Says:

this kinda makes sense to me, although im also disappointed. i really used to like the franco shade stuff but every line, ive liked it less and less… no offense to arlo but the suicide stuff was getting to be too much. i still like a lot of their cut and sew, but the weird slogans and logos was too much for me to want to wear on a t-shirt. it woulda been better if they could have just gone back to their older simpler designs, i cant see franco shade without arlo and i dont know how this GOST thing will turn out. lets hope they know what they are doing and are making the wrong decision, because id really hate to see the brand with what i thought had the most potential to die because of disagreements.

  21. wtf Says:

    ^right* decision haha

  22. wtf Says:

damn, look at the gost 09 spring sneak peak on the site. im sorry but i really dont like it, this is kinda sad.

  23. franco Says:

ah i hope that the style of franco gets more like the style 3 years ago. the new franco stuff is that fuckin ugly!!! i mean its kinda funny how rollerbladers dress today. they walk around like models and they love themselves for that. skaters gotta be hard men, not a pussy in a ultra tight v-cut stylomeilo t-shirt from D&G.

  24. Raudel Mesa Says:

I always thought that the name of “Franco Shade” is a mistake, in Spain this is not a great name for a brand. I think that people who made a brand must think in that things. Franco isn’t a good memory here.

Although, Franco Shade made a really good clothing and I suppose that GOST gona be great too. I hope.

  25. jujuju Says:

haha all this talk is sooo gay, not in the homo way but gay as in fashion gay, posh, hipster!

    hipssterrrrr

  26. flowskate Says:

ive always thought there was a divide in the artistic direction of franco shade.
it was always obvious to me that there were two different designers.
it doesnt seem stupid to split the two companies at all…its not like it will make a difference to you, the consumer anyway as there designs were always by two different artists.
so really, stop preaching about how its all about the money?!
fucking hell, have you stopped to realise how little money there is in the skating world anyway?
so many foolish comments, by so many little kids.
respect your elders and the pioneers of our sport by waiting before you make a judgement when you have no idea whether positives or negatives will come from a decision.

  27. flowskate Says:

fools, ive just seen the new ‘gost’ line
    how is it shit?
its following a very similar theme to previous franco stuff
in fact the ’so ill’ new t shirt is a banger

    ahh
    lack of knowledge on graphics…
    fools.

  28. wtf Says:

just because arlo can make good art doesnt mean that everyone will like it… so stop acting like yours is the only opinion that counts. anyway no one said it was shit, they said they didnt like it.

  29. Knight Says:

FRANCO SHADE PRODUCTS ARE ORIGINAL, STYLISH, and SUCH GOOD QUALITY. I love that in a company! The new stuff looks amazing……..nice work Arlo and Co.

Quality products are what it’s all about!

  30. blahdy blah ninja9 Says:

maybe they split the brand because franco was associated w/ Rolling and now has a rolling team. So now they can keep Franco for rolling and Gost for streetwear, hipster shit. I hope not the other way around because that would be fucked up seeing as Franco has been a Blading brand since it started. I dont mind this decision, something different and could be successful

  31. Robert Paulson Says:

    His Name Is Arlo Eisenberg
    His Name is Arlo Eisenberg
    His Name is Arlo Eisenberg

  32. Sleeze Says:

    BOOOO FUCKING HOOOO!

You 17 year old queers in your moms fucking basement can’t wrap your head around basic marketing and business. It’s easy to “keep it real” when you don’t pay rent and grift off your parents like a little child through your life. Maybe one day when your in your 30’s have a wife and child, as well as a mortgage you’ll realize how the fucking world is run.

    Smart move.

  33. jonny x-mas Says:

two “new” companies just means a better chance of widening their market/customers. it might suck to some but have a liking to others. and Arlo started senate, and that’s lasted (even though he doesn’t run any thing now) a decade.

besides, its not going to affect anyones skating capabilities, get mad at the next hammer you see, not this.

  34. collin d. Says:

i dont know whether to be excited or horribly dissapointed. i guess thats the beauty of branching out. the risk.

  35. Joe Navran Says:

I am really impressed by so many of your comments and guesses and how close some of you are as to why this all happened. I don’t want to go on a rant here but it obviously isnt about money as we arent even making barely any as is (not complaining). The truth is it just got to a point where I have a certain vision and Arlo has another. Instead of being miserable and arguing we can both do our own thing. The ghost is an amazing character with some cool history now, and for those who still want that it is there in full force with Gost, and for those who want to see Franco Shade get back more to it’s original innovative design and style roots then they can have that too. Arlo and I do not make any more money for doing this, if anything it is going to be much harder to fund two seperate brands now.

I hope to explain more and showcase more about FRSH in 09 in the Nobody Cares video. Clement blew out his knee and has finally healed so filming has begun and that should be also updated shortly.

And like someone said, the truth is, you will all have even more to choose from and whatever you don’t like, don’t buy, it’s really that simple.

    thanks guys

    Joe

    “FRSH”

  36. nick Says:

i agree with harrie the elephant was way better that any of the bullshit there making now

  37. DazzB Says:

good glad franco got rid of that shitty ‘GOST’ knives logo, and who ever idea it was to ruin tees and hoodys by having it on the back needs to be shot

  38. DazzB Says:

yea i loved that elephant tee!! white with the green elephant sick..
