Also, the general public sucks, rollerblading doesn’t need them or any more Brazil edits. All it needs are rollerbladers, and more Valo4Life, Traitement, and Charging!
I’m sick of this whole we need acceptance from the general public b/s. If I wanted that, I’d do something else. Rollerblading isn’t dead and doesn’t show any signs of going away. It might not be in the mainstream, but it doesn’t need to be. I think people are finally realizing that rollerblading has been in the best state it has ever been and I can only see it getting better from now on. This whole Brazillionaire/Kanye/mainstream/general public debate…..why are we striving to tap into that general side of things? Another explosion of popularity in rollerblading might be great in the short-term, but could completely screw us in the long-term, just look at what happened in the past! Watch Barely Dead if you’re not filled in.
We need to grow, yes, but in a slow and controlled manner. Introducing friends to rollerblading, sessioning public spots where security are lenient to show people what’s going on, promoting the absolute shit out of comps at your local park to friends on Facebook, all of that.
Not trying to get a bunch of short-termers into it for 2-3 years and suffering another market crash.

As for Aragon VS Julien, just watch the 20min long Raw Footage clip of the finals and you can’t really argue. Aragon was amazing but so was Julien. These things tend to be judged on consistency, use of the course, difficulty, you don’t tick ALL the boxes, you don’t win.

I don’t know why but for some reason this year’s bcsd was seriously lacking in energy. It almost seemed like the skating regressed from the past two years(except for Julien Cudot recklessly chucking his body at any and everything). The top three was spot on, but the rest of the finals was pretty much bullshit. Kelso and Broskow in the finals was embarrassing, but it was a reflection of the fact that very few pros were throwing down and landing shit.
Stockwell and B Smith were both consistent and stylish, but just didn’t go big enough to win.
Soichiro and J Bah both should have been in the finals.

Everybody is jocking Vinny’s style because it’s new and different. Brazil got the same treatment when he started popping up edits too. He’s known for a his flashy adrenaline boosting style and it’s a good option to have. It’s hard not to be predictable after a while for any editor (or skater for that matter). That’s a challenge Brazil needs to bring to light. His reputation went down since Game Theory and ,based on the comments, this edit didn’t help. If he can’t admit it, then he’s got a big head and his arrogance will only bring him down.

if you want our sport to grow then you NEED to put out edits that look like it could have been an ipod or mtv commercial! there is nothing to discuss about that fact.
most of us rollerbladers are different from the, may I call them normal people and this is a fact.
most of us rollerbladers have a different lifestyle and view on what´s cool, what´s not compared to normal people.
and most of us rollerbladers and excuse me to say this, are just going nowhere in life when thinking of being successful because we are different and literally don´t fit in the world of success where people act different like we do.
so please stop hating on brazil because he is going to be somewhere, simply due to his work ethic and perception what he can do.
i personally think that he chose the wrong thing to be successful in or to spend time on, but he does it because he himself is a rolerblader and he loves this yet non-profit sport!
what I basically want to say is – let the people that are going to be successful to what they want to do! it doesn´t matter if you hate on them because they are going to be somewhere some day where you are just complaining about this and that and be overall fed up with your life!

you posted some interesting points, and i get where youre coming from, but a couple of questions i have which may interpret your comment from a different perspective:
does rollerblading need to be seen by the general public? it’d be nice for the sport to grow for sure, but everyone spends half their day discussing
exposure when in reality the industry is larger than it’s beleived to be.
even if we did need exposure, should we be promoting it in such a way that is seen as derogatory towards ourselfs? (for example, cheesy edits like the one above) if people get into rollerblading because of the crap they see from brazil, then they may expect more of it as opposed to the high quality stuff that ‘real’ rollerbladers have come to love.
i pose this question to you because it’s the same with a lot of small scenes. take dubstep music within the UK for example, it was really good up until around 2007ish before commercialism took over, a few producers began making stuff that appeals to the mass market, and before you know it, everyones a ‘fan’ but has no knowledge / respect for the original genre which preceeded it.
Rollerblading will go exactly the same way if over exposed to commercialism, quite simply, some things are just meant to be underground…
this isnt a hate post btw, just a different view to the one which you posted.

first of all i am really happy that someone on here can post something back without being rude (besides calling brazil a fag) and can stick to facts!! most of them rollernews people can learn from this one!
so you asked me if rollerblading really needs exposure and said that it´s actually pretty big and not that underground as many people say……
well in my opinion i really think it´s necessary from the pro skaters point of view because, come on, they bust their asses off and don´t get paid properly. there are only a few skaters in the industry that can actually make a living from skating and that´s a shame. more than a decade ago where rollerblading was booming nearly every pro skater could actually live pretty well from skating as the price money of comps were also higher.
and i also like to compare it to skateboarding… skateboard pros get paid well and it´s basically a mainstream “cool looking” sport so that many people that don´t skate buy skateboarding clothes (have to say that they look better, more mature than ours, but that´s a different story) which means even more money in the industry.
and personally i don´t think that it´s derogatory to ourselves if we made more “cheesy edits” like the ones brazil does because of several reasons:
there are rollerbladers (like me) that like these “cheesy edits” and how the way brazil portrays us. this also answers the question why i don´t think it´s derogatory to ourselves. we rollerbladers are different from each other too – just look at all these “hip hop or rock skaters”. we love the same sport but have different tastes in music and live a different private lifestyle but still respect each other and that´s a beautiful thing. it´s all about diversity.
and i can see what you mean with your dubstep example…
the thing is, everybody wants to make money and some are okay with it if they change their music for the sake of money and some, often just a few stick to their style and don´t give a shit about money, simply because they don´t want to change their style for something like money. i think if skating becomes bigger they won´t be a change within the community itself as the diversity would still exist. it could happen that there will be more skaters that are like brazil and the razors crew but at the end of the day skating will be skating and everyone who rollerblade still belong to the rollerblading community cause we all do the same thing – rollerblading.
and this is what really matters.

Is there a new futuristic angle that hasn’t been invented yet???? Someone please let me know because im confused. This is a competition with tricks being done everywhere at once. Its amazing that anyone captures any quality tricks at all during these comps.
Maybe next time Brazil should consider hanging upside down from that giant ceiling fan at Modern. I’m sure that would be a cool angle now wouldn’t it!

I thought the edit was pretty good. At first I thought the song was korny til I skated to it. And it got me pumped. The skating was good decent song. And all y’all need to stop giving him shit for no cudot clips. It’s a big comp with alot of skaters. You can only get so many clips. So good job brazil!
