Arlo Eisenberg: Haters & Shit talk
Quoting Arlo Eisenberg’s Post, on the Gost: MC Hammer x Action Sports Post.
I realize that it has become kind of a joke in the industry that anything that gets posted on rollernews will invariably be greeted by a relentless stream of shit talk. It has long been noted that in the absence of any real opinions people will often prop up their own lazy insults with no intention (or concept) of adding anything constructive. All too often people confuse their insults with insight and think they are being provocative when really they are just being assholes.
In light of all of this I know that I shouldn’t be surprised at the constant (and crude) level of insults hurled at me (when I don’t talk about rollerblading I’ve turned my back and I’m a sell-out or when I do I have a martyr complex and I’m just saying the same shit over and over again) and I know I shouldn’t take it too personally, but there are just some things that I find very troubling.
First of all I find it unsettling that an industry that has been so decimated over the past several years and that has come under such vicious attack from so many corners would be so fractured and cannibalistic within its own ranks. Don’t rollerbladers have enough to overcome without having to worry about OTHER rollerbladers. It’s funny (or sad) that now that almost everybody else has stopped thinking (or talking) about rollerblading the only people who care enough to still make fun of it or attack it are other rollerbladers.
What I have found even more disheartening has been coming to terms with the fact that rollerblading just isn’t as special as I thought it would be. I used to cling to this idea that there was something inherently special about skating, that it attracted a certain kind of person. I believed that rollerblading provided a kind of refuge for individuals and that it attracted people who were different.
To some extent rollerblading has attracted unique individuals willing to go against the grain, but (and I guess this would be true of any group of any significant size) it turns out that only a small percentage of rollerbladers are actually (and truly) individuals; the ones who have the courage to follow their own vision and the intelligence and creativity to identify it in the first place.
As for the others, the ones who fill up the comments and the message boards, it turns out they are pretty much just like everyone else. They show very little interest in reading or researching or growing or learning or ever making any genuine attempt at understanding. They lack either the interest or the capacity to exercise their minds (or both). They are critics who lack the ability to think critically. They know a little bit about a little bit and try to mask their ignorance with indignation.
There is no reason to think that the dozens of voices clogging rollernews’ arteries couldn’t just as easily be found on skateboarding message boards or posting vitriolic comments on youtube or Yahoo! Venues like these, on the web, provide the perfect forum for anyone of little insight and of even less consequence to fire off an anonymous barb without any accountability. It’s the same shit from the same shitty people. They are nondescript, indistinct and everywhere and they are all completely interchangeable.
I don’t mean to paint with too broad a brush here. I have seen some very thoughtful posts in this thread (BEATMASTER, Nattyp, chris Marino, Azur, etc.) and rollerblading is no doubt filled with some very bright people. It is just a shame that so much of our attention (and our energy) has to be wasted on people who have so little to contribute.

I agree… Amen…

I do know a lot about rollerblading Arlo but I also shit talk on these forums. I care about Rollerblading as I am sure you do.
Why do you want rollerblading to be all about individuals??? You complain about clones but then you also complain about the lack of numbers in rollerblading( you cant’t have millions of individuals). If you take soccer, basketball and other popular sports they all have hundreds and hundreds of kids all following the same icons, wearing the same clothes and copying the same moves.
I for one cant stand all these “free thinking, art form, self expression” idiots who are eating away at the very crust of rollerblading. If we got the big corporations involved like Nike instead of relying on skater ran companies who have no idea of how to run a busineess or industry properly we would see rollerblading grow.
I respect what you did for rollerblading in the early days but I think if you put your hand on your heart u would admit that the love is not as great as it was. Probably time fpor people like you and shane coburn to move over and let the proper companies try and save rolleblading.
November 12th, 2009 at 9:06 am
Amen to that…I concur…
November 12th, 2009 at 9:10 am
Blah blah blah, Arlo, you fucking idiot. Why do you try so hard to sound so sophisticated with your redundant writing style? Fuck you Arlo, you worry about sounding so advanced when you write; the fact is, your writng fucking blows. Just get to the point without your worthless rambling, ok?
Fucking asshole.
November 12th, 2009 at 9:19 am
true the fuck that Arlo Eisenberg.. ive been following you since i was 14 and hoax and shit baking cookies or whatever but forreal bullshittin ass bullshitters who have nothing better to do for our sport complaining and shitting for no good reason at all…be quiet if you aint got something real to say.
November 12th, 2009 at 9:22 am
wow i just read these posts and arlo youre just gonna have to understand we have some unhappy people along our side and words can only do so much when real action is take…you have the power to change things… and these people have a saying in what goes down…thats just how it is.. fuck it…rollerbladers 4 life.
November 12th, 2009 at 9:31 am
Agreed! We gain nothing by constantly hating on each other. There are a lot of passionate people in the sport. Less hate more love!
November 12th, 2009 at 9:32 am
Nice post – I totally agree, however this is not just limited to rollerblading. Unfortunately it happens on most ‘creative’ industry forums such as music and art etc… I think its just a product of a certain generation, that seem to have nothing to do except troll the internet whilst waiting for their parents to cook their dinner – it appears that these people only seem to write on forums and especially comment on blogs when they have something negative to say and especially when god forbid, somebody does something that not everyone else is doing?
So i don’t think the problem is necessarily rollerbladers. That said, it would help if people were more constructive and not just negative.
November 12th, 2009 at 9:34 am
want some cheese with that wine? why do people still bitch about the state of rollerblading or who is shit talking it. Roll for fun, fuck bitches, and kick ass. a sport that attracts unique individuals will have unique ideas and attitudes. Besides hate is the new cool. HA
November 12th, 2009 at 9:41 am
i agree
but what can you do about it. people will talk shit about everything and the internet forums just make it so easy. even i do but at least i try to give constructive criticism. i think its in every sport that this happens. especially ones of younger people.
having said that there is a lot of crap made out there. if you dont want people talking shit. dont make shit in the first place. possibly get some opinion before putting something out there for everyone to see. thats just my thoughts anyway.
November 12th, 2009 at 9:43 am
Da Masta Mound……you are a legend mate! great post.
November 12th, 2009 at 10:03 am
I agree…and in the most part, rollerbladers who really have the love will never go out and say something hateful about another rollerblader. Those of us that have been doing it for a decade and more just see things differently as opposed to that kid that will eventually “quit” rollerblading for something else or make excuses about not being able to rollerblade anymore or at least support it. They never had it in them in the first place and thats why they have no problem with tearing rolling down from the inside out. Seriously, how hard is it to give props where its deserved and just keep your mouth shut when your not into it?
November 12th, 2009 at 10:26 am
ive been around all different forums myself .. racing off road rc cars and even though people are anywhere from 20-50 you ll get certain people picking on some one and hating… or thrasher… lol great stuff there ha… its not a isolated topic just to this sport.. in general .. life , you will have asswholes to deal with and some times need to give them their own medicine and talk some scense into them… mmm mabe we do need companies like nike, slim jim, nitrous energy drink… gyms etc… just to get rolling on a tv channel that ll reach millions… thats a thing we should accept… we wont reach a good number with just roller owned co,s but we will grow.. and we are with all comps going on and demos and other people doing their part… its not the comments that repel anyone viewing but the fact that its not being some what mainstreamed.. and understood.. the its a UFO type thing to some since sports like bmx and skateboarding has been pushed everywhere which francly is getting boraring to watch on xgames and now at the moment its fair to say we cant be compared to it anyway… not meaning to sound pompes, just the fact that we are a threat.. imagine us being lined up next to skateboarding at a xgames… ah a good example BMX… now thats insane…
November 12th, 2009 at 10:35 am
I’m french and I was too lazy to read it all.
The only thing I know is rollerblading is just a sport where a lot of people are just immature kids.
I think Arlo doesn’t understand that kids today are as stupid as he was when he started rollerblading, but now Arlo is an adult with a child and business to run.
I don’t know why he gets offended by all the shit that is written here.
Don’t tell kids in primary school that they’re immature when you’re retired…
November 12th, 2009 at 10:53 am
Arlo, I agree that these kids are retarded and annoying, but they are everywhere. It has nothing to do with a specific group or sport and it never will. Some people are just losers that have nothing really going on for them, and because of that, they are insecure and the only way they will feel better is if they have their security blanket (ragging on other people). Haters will be forever present, luckily, so will real rollerbladers.
November 12th, 2009 at 10:56 am
let’s face it: rollerblading will never be big again, its never going to be in the olympics and it won’t change the world (at least some people act like its was supposed to change the fuckin planet, it just won’t okay?!?!). its a fun thing to do and thats it. some will hop on and others will quit. people talk about an industry and this sounds like we are having thousands of companies but in fact we have a handful and there are a few guys who release a shirt company every now and then, and after a year its gone.
how many people are actually making enough money of this for a descent living? i don’t think that theres more than maybe 100 people, and that would be much. some pros have full time jobs!!!
don’t get me wrong, i don’t think rolling will ever be dead but if people will only will cry about how nobody thinks rolling is the coolest thing ever NOTHING is gonna happen.
November 12th, 2009 at 10:58 am
1 word, Skullfuck.
…….. o shit thats two. but you see what im getting at
November 12th, 2009 at 11:12 am
Black Messiah got the truth. Arlo, i understand your point. Kids don’t know where the rollerblading come from. Some of them don’t deserve it. You should know that the biggest part of us love you as a father. And the biggest part of us read article but stopped posting comment because of stupid kids. It’s important to comment and to give our point but in this context of global stupidity it’s like being Don Quichote fighting against windmills. I’m 27 and i have been skating in Belgum since i’m 12. Today i can recognize who really love MY sport. Lot of us have stomac hach just thincking about the way people turned. You should know that one day, that talkshitter will stop skating, the rest of us will continue. And you also should know that a young belgian will be called Arlo because of you.
love

November 12th, 2009 at 11:17 am
i remember when i was a gromit everybody had an undying respect for anybody half good and you could go up to ANY rollerblader and have a casual chat and thats what made me drop all the other sports i was doing at a competent level because in all other sports ever body hates the other teams and everybody on the same team hates each other and i got a warm feeling when i thought how much everybody is out of the loop that didnt skate.
unfortunately things change people are more internet proactive especially insolent kids that dont have respect for anyone and everybodys more up for an argument without really knowing what there arguing about.
so i do get what arlos saying imagine for one second you became pro then a bunch of disrespecting 5 year olds grow up and start slating you especially as your old skool and was doing hand rails litterally when they where in dipers. THAT WOULD PISS YOU OFF! can you say your guna achieve as much as arlo and be connected to rollerblading when you reach his age?
i think the main point is respect people more in our industry as you are the ones shaping it and if you can give someone constructive advice then do otherwise fuck off and take up some mainstream shit heads sport.
peace arlo
November 12th, 2009 at 11:26 am
too many complainers….go fuck your mom!
November 12th, 2009 at 11:41 am
The fact that there’s hate in these comments if ridiculous, everyone has their opinions on things, but common, if you’re just going to hate the shit out of everything, then rather than waste your time on your lazy ass, go roll, go do something that isn’t a waste of your time. It’s really too bad to see that some of you have the mindset of so many ridiculous skateboarders, in my opinion, rollerblading should be better than that.
November 12th, 2009 at 11:56 am
Unfortunally, kids will keep hating as in every stupid skateboard forum arround, and they won’t read this article as “an individual”.
But don’t worry, arlo. The ones who kept rolling alive all this years are still here, and stronger than ever. This hatters are not the real thing… They didn’t started it or invented it, they sure don’t feel what we feel for OUR sport/lifestyle.
I don’t worry, at all, coz I know we (WE!) are the ones moving the wheel forward, not them.
Peace !

Be advised:
It is easy to se a subjective trap for oneself by demanding
respect an understanding from other people, since these are
qualities that we apply our own attitudes and aproach in life.
Skating either on a skateboard or on inline skates is a skill.
go practice and enjoy.
oh by the way:
SHUT UP AND SKATE!
Sincerely
rolling for 20 consecutive years

November 12th, 2009 at 12:11 pm
Wow Arlo.. looks like rollernews users hit some of your nerves
It’s a shame that at your age you can’t dismiss pointless internet hate and just get on with your life.
Of course there’s going to be loads of hate. People will hate edits (with their jealousy of others disguised as hate etc) You need to accept that Mr Joe Average, who is voiced anonymously will need to express their hate at some point..
I guess what i’m saying is, humans are capable of hate, get over it
November 12th, 2009 at 12:47 pm
cj wellsmore kills shit
November 12th, 2009 at 12:51 pm
i dont see what the big deal is or why we had to have an entire post about internet hate… nobodys gonna just up and stop skating nor is it going to cause a downfall in our sport just because some fat ass whos sitting on his computer with his senate t-shirt on says “your edit is gay” in a post on rollernews..this is dumb
November 12th, 2009 at 12:59 pm
i swear, every time i see the words HATER HATE i can smell idiots coming my way. its become a trend to say HATERS and it really angers me. you’re all stupid god dammit.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:00 pm
portas, if companies like nike take over rollerblading it will grow… will it be good? i dont think so. there have always been skates, wheels, etc, there will always be, no need for mega corporations to run things. i have skated and will still skate witn no fucking nike running shit.
i don’t get the obsession with “lets go to the olympics”, “lets be big and mainstream”, “lets have big companies run the show”. pathetic. and don’t tell me that we are shit and we are going to die and all that bullshit, i have skated all these years and i’m really fucking happy, all my friends are too, and if you only thing about being big then go get a money making job somwhere else and stop skating.
November 12th, 2009 at 1:11 pm
opinions are like ass holes evryone got one and sometimes its hate ore can seem like hate..evryone has at one time hated on the internet from 5 year old to 40 year old, i guess we are only humans after all sorry arlo dont leave us !
November 12th, 2009 at 1:13 pm
guess people do not necessarily speak their mind at rn. Its maybe a combination of boredom, jealousy & cockiness. You dont see that at skateparks… as soon as everybody blades together, theres no hate.
i woundnt mind a removal of the comment- function here, because it leads nowhere
November 12th, 2009 at 1:14 pm
carlos i agree!
November 12th, 2009 at 1:30 pm
hating makes things fun ! emagen if we where all on eatch others dick all the time fuck that let the hate flow!!! so FUCK YOU ARLO!!! AND FUCK RN!! AND THE X GAMES!!! AND EMOS!!! ND THE REST OF THE WORLD!!!

November 12th, 2009 at 1:40 pm
as soon as i saw this post i just knew that there would be a bit of hate against arlo,
i have been skating for around ten years now and even since i picked up an issue of unity it had letters about hate in the sport, i have come to realize that yes there will always be people with nothing better to do with their time, and feel the need to hate towards other rollers, but there is also that part of us doesnt like it when some dude shows up to your local park which you are the king at, and then completely destroys it, there is that percentage of people that will instantly hate that person for being able to do certain tricks better than you are with a style that you would die for,
i made a descion some time ago to stop all the hating and trying to get more people into the sport, i have found some amazing friends from this sport, some that will be true friends until i die,
it was only the other day when some young kids that turned up to my park, that obviously didnt know much about the sport or had put in the time to learn it, but they still thought they were big enough to take the piss out of a child with full pads and a helmet that turned up with his father, i just thought to myself that these kids dont have a right to do that, cause they could easily stop the haffey, broskow, shima, julio, any of the big names or back bones of our sport,
i think there comes a time when you just grow up as a person and decided that there is nothing wrong with respecting a person that is better than you, i still talk to rollers that i have never met before, and i am still making friends in our sport, personally i would like to see less of the hate, but i know it will always happen in any sport,
i know there will probs be some sort of shit talking about my post as i have come to expect that now of anyone who lays down a valuable comment, but i know i have been in this sport for a long time and im going to stay into it for a while yet,
next time you see that kid in the all the pads just starting, or that kid who turns upto the park alone, talk to them, or show them some pointers then im sure they will come to respect you to,
November 12th, 2009 at 1:44 pm
arlo you are like the rollblading jezus to me, maby you should put up some regular post of youre visions on rollblading the industy and all that shit.
peace i am out for some ritalin too
November 12th, 2009 at 1:50 pm
I agree with Arlo…. there will be shit talk in any industry, thats how it is with people these days.
The farfetched part of it all, is that about 95% of the trash talk is done behind some “online alia” instead of using their real name. So trash talk to say someone that one may not know is a lot easier to do than if they were using their real name. Yes, I am guilty of having an “online alias” on message board/blogs or whatever, but i will truthfully not talk trash on something that i have been doing for well over half my life.
As for people who think “rollerbladers” don’t know how to run companies, that is just outrageous. There are a lot of people in our industry that have skills and knowledge of stuff outside of rollerblading. Yet, mistakes can and will be made by individuals, but they are trying to make a difference and/or impact in our sport so they deserve respect for that. Some have made it, and some have not. I have all the respect in the world for anyone who is willing to put everything they have into something they are taking a risk on; such as starting a clothing company, skate company or a skate shop.
Go out, skate, have fun doing something we all have helped build so that the ones that continue to do it have something to claim they have fun doing.
Between rollerblading, and other sports I have had my share of injuries and if I am not skating because of one, I wont look down on it because I would not have the friends and stories to tell without rollerblading. Take a look around, see what rollerblading has done for you, then
November 12th, 2009 at 1:50 pm
go out and skate some more.

yo arlo where’s your pro team for gost? lead by example, its easy to talk and say what needs to be done… but your a company owner and surely have a vast amount of knowledge about running things… grab the bull by the horns and do something about it then
November 12th, 2009 at 2:13 pm
you could be like the president of rolling get out there on the phone e mail i dont know lobbying some media stunt, if they dont want to see make em see how fresh rolling is for fucks sake
November 12th, 2009 at 2:29 pm
Good words Arlo… I feel the same way about the message boards. It’s self destructive. I think it’s because rollerblading is so small and there’s so little to go around amongst ourselves that the mentality is dog eat dog not let’s all progress forward and evolve as a whole.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:36 pm
I think its a bit ironic that Arlo wants more individuality in rollerblading when he owns a clothing company which makes it possible to go to any park and see kids wearing the same t shirt, and I agree with the guy who said you need to make a pro team, honestly i haven’t seen that much support coming from ghost or Franco shade to the rollerblading industry. And lets face it barely dead is wrong its not because of skateboarding or the x games that rollerblading is unpopular, rollerblading is unpopular cause there is not alot of people who enjoy it and i think it will always be that way which relay does not bother me, i can see why it would bother the industry leaders cause they are not getting as much cash as they would like, but if that’s the case go make some fucking skateboards. i think Rollerblade has completely sold out and gone towards the more commercial side gone back to making beginner skates and focusing on recreational skating only having pros like sizemore who is a great skater dont get me wrong but has a very clean look i think thats why broskow and bah got dropped cause they didnt fit in with the image of Rollerblade. maybe im totaly wrong on this subject but thats what i believe. i skate simply cause its something to do and i enjoy it, i think there needs to be more people with that attitude. josh_hammond4@msn.com

I can’t wait for the day when people who talk shit on rollernews link us to a edit that they made thats better to a film they made that the filming was better, a majority of the time peoples critisism are not on a platform to say anything, IF YOU PLAY STREET BALL dont comment on the NBA if u think you can show somone better or have somthing to say please back it up with photos edits proof that from your stand point your opinion even matters
the amount of hate we get from withen our skate community it almost seems like we post this news edits pics sections,, on skateboarder threads..
new rule if you dont like the edit or pic of section then please post yours so we can learn how to be good like you if not please spare us

While I agree with Arlo’s post 100% (and actually made a comment about rollerbladers at each other’s throats in TLS’ mission statement) there is one golden rule to follow on the internets.
Don’t feed the trolls.
November 12th, 2009 at 3:23 pm
Arlo, i could not agree with you anymore!!! skaters need to appreciate everyone. Even if they don’t like some other persons skating as much as their buddy who is sponsored.
Just because someone doesn’t look just like Broskow, doesn’t make them a bad skater. Even if they suck, it doesn’t make them a bad PERSON. I enjoy skating with people who have personallity way more.
It was a good read, and i love what Arlo has done for skating and what he is doing now.
November 12th, 2009 at 3:34 pm
Grab a collection of 1,000 people from anywhere in the world (excluding developing countries) and put them in a culture/sport such as rollerblading, skateboarding, football, acrobatics etc. Monitor how many access a website such as Rollernews, maybe 600-700 of those 1,000? Now monitor the ones who comment, maybe 90-100 of those 600-700. Now monitor how many ‘individuals’ there are within that group of 90-100 people.
The world is full of pricks, rollerblading is no exception, it’s just another sport.
November 12th, 2009 at 3:41 pm
totally agree with Arlo.
I stopped reading comments on rollernews for a long time and my visits to rollernews were much more enjoyable. When surrounding yourself with negative vibes you inevitably start to become more negative. So to the comments and message boards I say farewell, fuck you, and I wont miss you. I’ll be outside rolling and enjoying one of the loves of my life.
adios.
November 12th, 2009 at 3:54 pm
Well this was bound to set off a whole barrage of different replies.
The stock haters (kids who are to ignorant to read things properly or know any thing about the history behind the sport) these people will just post shit about anything and not really care.
Then you get the slightly more mature kids (people who have been in the scene for while. Care about the sport but weren’t there in the truly early days) these peeps will swing one way or the other on posts like this. Half will agree with what people like Arlo have to say. This is probably because they have been around skaters from the “old school” that have educated them into to sports history and origins they have a better out look on what Rolling Life really involves and what REAL LIFE involves. They other half just try to stick up for a sport they are passionate about and maybe aren’t fully aware of what their saying or what they mean they just want to get along and get on with skating. They are not bothered about the history or the past, but there bother about the present and keeping things alive. People like Arlo and what they have to just don’t seem that to them.
Then you have the OLDIES like me. People who have been into the sport for nearly the beginning. These are the people that are of an ADULT age. They read posts properly they have ADULT way of looking at things. They more than likely have had many of LIFES experiences and have a proper out look on life and what living actually involves. These are the people who’s post are the most valid to read.
I’ve been rollin since 92-93 It was seeing people like Arlo, Brooke, Edwards, Hulgreene etc that really made me want to blade. This sport has done so much for my life over the years other than be just a hobby to me. It’s been an inspiration, made me want to travel and made me some of the best friends i have to date. I’ve grown up with this sport and seen it go through many changes in style, attitude and levels of publicity. As i’ve grown up with this sport i’ve also been growing as a person. I turned 30 this year so i look at post like Arlo’s with an adult eye. He’s one of the originators there is no doubt in that. I’ve always digested what he’s had to say whether i agreed with it or not. The people on here that say where is “GOSTs” pro team. Did Arlo actual start GOST as a “Rollerblading” based company? from reading his early post it seemed to me that GOST was idea he wanted to to do for a while and finally had the chance to do it. His own company producing what he wants to produce and pushing to “WHO EVER” he wants to push it to. I don’t think he wanted to aim his company solely at just “Rollerblades” He wants to run a “clothing company” or as he puts it a “LOGO” company and open his products to everyone that likes then. Its just because he’s a Legend in our sport that Rollerbladers buy GOST clothing. So get of his back about it.
At the end of all this the real supporters in this sport will keep it alive regardless of what size the sport is. Whether it’s a low level underground sport or in the papers, magazines or on the tv super massive sport. They’ll be there keeping it going. It will always have the haters, the shit talkers, the uneducated and the uncommitted that just come along for the ride because they think its cool or the next best thing but they’ll disappear after a while when they get board and they’ll be replace by more. So to all those people i say this you can talk shit as much as you want but you’ll get board soon and move on to something else then one day you’ll grow up and realize exactly what everyone else was getting at.
All i know is that i care about this sport. I’m not going any where and i’ll be around to support the best i can for as long as i can. Just get along and enjoy your selves. You could loose your life 2mrw

i have been skating for around ten years now and even since i picked up an issue of unity it had letters about hate in the sport, i have come to realize that yes there will always be people with nothing better to do with their time, and feel the need to hate towards other rollers, but there is also that part of us doesnt like it when some dude shows up to your local park which you are the king at, and then completely destroys it, there is that percentage of people that will instantly hate that person for being able to do certain tricks better than you are with a style that you would die for,
i made a descion some time ago to stop all the hating and trying to get more people into the sport, i have found some amazing friends from this sport, some that will be true friends until i die,
it was only the other day when some young kids that turned up to my park, that obviously didnt know much about the sport or had put in the time to learn it, but they still thought they were big enough to take the piss out of a child with full pads and a helmet that turned up with his father, i just thought to myself that these kids dont have a right to do that, cause they could easily stop the haffey, broskow, shima, julio, any of the big names or back bones of our sport,
i think there comes a time when you just grow up as a person and decided that there is nothing wrong with respecting a person that is better than you, i still talk to rollers that i have never met before, and i am still making friends in our sport, personally i would like to see less of the hate, but i know it will always happen in any sport,
i know there will probs be some sort of shit talking about my post as i have come to expect that now of anyone who lays down a valuable comment, but i know i have been in this sport for a long time and im going to stay into it for a while yet,
next time you see that kid in the all the pads just starting, or that kid who turns upto the park alone, talk to them, or show them some pointers then im sure they will come to respect you to,
^^^^^i didnt take the time to even read this… but who the fuck writes this damn much
November 12th, 2009 at 3:59 pm
and the guy above me holy shit that had to take all fuckin day
November 12th, 2009 at 3:59 pm
This comment is towards Da Masta Mound…PHIL. anyone?
This sounds very much like Plato’s “The Apology”.. Arlo we accuse you of making the weaker speech the greater and of corrupting our youth by teachings of other “gods”…or in this case ideologies of rollerblading.
Socrates went around searching for the wisest, as he did not believe in what the god said about him being the wisest, since Socrates has never considered himself the least bit wise. However the conclussion that Socrates reached was the following “Socrates was the wisest because he knew that he knew nothing”, and thus never pretented or assumed to know what he did not know.
Alot of people made comments based on this very philosophy, some of them on the “wise” end of the table and the others on the not so “wise” end. I agree with Arlo to an extent but I have met so many people who I would actually never talk to if they didn’t rollerblade. Yet I have also met people who rollerblade who are very unique individuals. However I believe thats one of the beatuies of rollerblading, that no matter what our differences are we have something in common that unifies us, the love of the sport :)
November 12th, 2009 at 3:59 pm
what a pity, the youth of today continues to get more disrespectful and unintellegent, not to mention ignorant, lazy and self-righteous…SHUT UP AND SKATE, you all ‘care’ too much about eachother and not enough about this dead sport. go ahead, hate me now….i spoke my ‘mind’ on the internet you little fucking worthless bitches
November 12th, 2009 at 4:03 pm
FUCK YOU YOU OLD FAG
November 12th, 2009 at 4:11 pm
Yoh old person, you have a mouth of a loose 16 year old! haha! But good point, and a bit of a contradiction! just another shut up and blah blah blah, you mother blah blah blahs….
Lol, so you think the sport is dead? you must be like over 100 with a young mouth, the sport is very much still alive in my blood, and always will be. South Africa non the less. agreed, young people are too ‘cool’ to try something different, so they stick to the popular sport, until one dude whips it out on skates, and he’s the shit! I love all Extreme sports, all sportsmen, and ALL people with their own opinions. what would the world be without opinions? Rather sit on ur couch, and nit that jersey…
With love, a 28 year old, and still skating! Maximum respect to all the above topics, and I agree too, Arlo was the king, but he to is an old person with old ideas, and we need some young minds to mold an awesome company.
What ever happened to ASA (aggressive Skaters Association)?
Eat Drink, and be Merry! Live Skate, and Love Life…. Peace :)
November 12th, 2009 at 4:11 pm
is this aboot MC Hammer on the skateboard cuz i saw that picture at a bus stop lol
November 12th, 2009 at 4:21 pm
I’m glad you said what you did Arlo, thanks for taking the time to voice your opinion. I hope other people will understand what you’re saying, but from browsing the comments so far it seems like there will always be haters. Rollerblading is for fun people, that’s all you need to remember.
November 12th, 2009 at 4:26 pm
fuck u all skateboarding is much cooler!!!
Hahaha no for real! this is teh internets guys…..
only internet heroes here, and keyboard warriors …. so dont take it all to serious cuz ure hating on poopoo no life nerds like me!
November 12th, 2009 at 4:35 pm
Yuhhhhh SENATE….its humourous to me that your post had more ‘blah blah’ than mine, but i did it with class. ASA wants nothing to do with a dead sport that consisted of mainly pre-teen pros at the time with bad attitudes. go figure?
get overweight, cirrhosis of the liver, skate into the path of a speeding car, and die…but dont do it because i said so, do it because you love life :)
November 12th, 2009 at 4:54 pm
Wow that last line was confusing! Time you booked yourself into an old age home, and replace your zimmer frame!
haha, something’s really biting your balls, must suck to be so pissed off all the time, death comes to us all, either by car, or in your case, old age! Id rather be hit by a damn car as you say, than be so negative. your contradictions are amazing!! blah blah bad attitudes? YOUVE GOT THE BIGGEST BAD ATTITUDE grandpa! take you’re….”overweight, cirrhosis of the liver” kinda person, you enjoy that!
Ill enjoy reading about people loosing their cool over something so small, really entertaining.
Love Life (you should try it) ..!
Anyway!!! anyone wanna comment about the story in question, like the story above with from Arlo?
November 12th, 2009 at 5:07 pm
half of these comments are fucking retarded. Stop making your own assumptions about the rolling industry. “Its not gunna ever be big or how it was” blah fucking blah blah. You know nothing about marketing or rollerblading. To the real skaters out there, keep skating, keep being yourselves, and quit the fucking know-it-all bullshit. GO SKATE
November 12th, 2009 at 5:15 pm
meh, I’ve turned towards learning to not read forums and just look at pictures and edits, if its comment worthy or constructive input seems necessary then maybe take a minute to write something.
be-mag and forums have sorta become a waste of time when you could just put your skates on and not waste your time reading some angry insecure lonely bored guys being douche bags worthless shit
November 12th, 2009 at 5:31 pm
At last a thread about hatred on Rollernews!!!
Maybe when rollernews discusses it’s own condition it simply implodes. ?
Whatever happens, this is simply RELEVANT.
(Warning, the following is mainly sarcasm.)
And the comments keep coming, what a wonder of the skating world! What a phenomenal achievement, some audience researchers will be utterly pleased to investigate what people feel about the one rollerblading icon that is still around and active socially and monetarily.
So can he still sell?
Is his new company worth a focus group locked at a think tank wondering about its economic potential? “Let’s get people to type down what they feel about it all and see what we get out of it”, or how about “hey that made the Godfather himself talk to the masses, let’s have en extension of this thread that nobody took notice of before that.”
This is in fact what Matthias Knoll attempted and failed on that other post about The Conference goes direct: “The Details from El Capo di Confirenzi.”. An attempt to “let the hatred fly”, to get as much feedback as possible from an audience that barely cared and did not bother to respond.
So no response with Matthias Knoll and a full response with Arlo Eisenberg…And why is that even relevant?
Maybe it would have worked if Arlo himself directed one of the two monopolizing companies in our industry and attempted the same. If people actually cared like they do about Arlo.
hmmm…. And again, why is this relevant?
BECAUSE our daily responding audience is forever young, exempt of responsibilities, and the old and mature step back to get a real job, BECAUSE the rollerblading market is a constantly renewed population that only understands about icons and not industry heads, BECAUSE the buyers of colourful products do not care for humanism and health insurance for the pros but they do care for coloured cuffs and wheels god dammed!
So the rollerblading community is a deception…it was suitable for an active and independent thinking mind at it’s youth, of course, but these days the local second hand book store is more thought provoking than all the clutter comments on Rollernews or the feedback from rollerbladers that have only done one single thing in their life; Rollerblade; simply because they believed in it.
Rollerblaing does not create amazing individuals or minds; it does not attract them like shit attracts flies. If anything it does give them individuals something more that will make them more complete, but you are more likely to find an amazing individual in the middle of the Sahara dessert, perhaps on some spiritual quest, but certainly not rollerblading.
Arlo himself has the ability to be an excellent critic, but he is still an insider to our industry. An insider that earns his living selling products cannot criticize with enough freedom. The limits lay right on the path that separates your garden from the neighbours, and if you piss your neighbour off too much he may never lend you that ladder you usually borrow when your roof has a leak.
In the end, I guess you cannot ask a community of youngsters and sportsmen with artistic tendencies to be an elite of thinkers, or ask a man that created tendencies to relentlessly lead the youngsters.
The one thing that is most true about this whole thread is:
Arlo Eisenberg was honest about his implication with the humanitarian side of the sport back then, and he has never given up in front of the unfairness against Rollerblading. People know this and most of the ones that were reluctant to make a post are now increasing the number of posts…The COLLECTIVE SYNDROME OF THE MARTYR was consolidated, but we have moved on and turned into so many different things, and cannibalism just happens to be among them.
November 12th, 2009 at 5:37 pm
good job arlo.
shit talk on rollernews = deffeting the purpose
November 12th, 2009 at 5:40 pm
Here is a comment Mark Korte asked me to post (he can’t because of proxies issues):
November 12th, 2009 at 5:46 pm
I can’t stand any of this. your all sad if you think hating is good espesically when it comes to hating on arlo. without him rollerblading wouldnt be what it is END OF !!!!!
I could write a million pages about this if I wanted but whats the point ?? you will never get haters to stop hating and all you doing is stopping rollerblading from being unique.
HATERS I HOPE YOU ALL DIE A HORRIBLE . . HORRIBLE DEATH
November 12th, 2009 at 5:56 pm
And then the digital messiah spoke.
Only kidz don’t understand, they will as they will grow older…
November 12th, 2009 at 5:58 pm
I wouldn’t let comments posted by 12 year olds get to you, Arlo
November 12th, 2009 at 6:03 pm
Sometimes I think rollerblading needs a flood and a boat built by Arlo.
November 12th, 2009 at 6:13 pm
holy motherfuckin shit.
November 12th, 2009 at 6:21 pm
Since when did Arlo start thinking everyone gives a shit about his opinion….at all.
Arlo, this is for you, your opinion of rollerblading and your idea that talking shit is a bad thing, completely lacks an understanding of the internet. The internet works like this you post something, people shit all over it, then eventually something intelligible is realized in the midst of all that shit talking. your artsy take on the whole thing is out of date. Just not practical to think their wont be haters. stop worrying about other people and getting your feelings hurt do you own shit and grow a pair! Your a whinny little girl tactics on this contribute just as much as the shit talking, nothing. So i ask you Arlo, why the fuck are you talking !?!?!?!?
November 12th, 2009 at 6:25 pm
I agree to some extent – I agree that people tend to say very hurtful things to others on the interent and it needs to stop. But theres a big difference between saying something ignorant and disrespectfull vs. an honest opinion.
Call me oldschool, but If you didnt come correct in NYC when I was a kid people told you. If your graff style was toy; if your attitude was wack; if you had bum gear & dirty kicks; etc… people told you.
So you can do one of two things: 1) You can either act like a little girl and moan about how everyones a big jerk, or 2) stop bitching and do something.
If you cant handle it when someone says something, you’ve got a harsh reality coming to you, life gets alot harder kids.

November 12th, 2009 at 7:06 pm
Plus 1 for good ol’ Arlo. I think there are a lot of people out there that fill the same way. I know I do for one. It’s the same shit talkers on all of the boards. I choose not to even contribute on be-mag and rollernews. There are to many kids with inflated opinions and to many grown men lacking common sense. Im glad YOU posted this, maybe coming from someone with credibility will help the problem. Not gonna hold my breath though. As long as some people are jumping hurtles to be successful there will always be silly, envious, haters!
November 12th, 2009 at 7:15 pm
you guys know arlo blew all the money he made off senate on drugs right?
November 12th, 2009 at 7:15 pm
Hey kids, imagine even half of you spent the amount of time you spend on the internet doing something productive for rollerblading. Take a picture, start a skate shop, run skate lessons, something positive. I dare you.
November 12th, 2009 at 7:29 pm
start a skate shop? something productive for rollerblading?
FUCK YOU, ive thrown so much fucking money into all the shops all fucking ready, and always seem to fucking get below par products in return
so suck a dick,
im sure ive spent somewhere around 8000 dollars on skating, so who the fuck do you think you are
Joe faggot
November 12th, 2009 at 7:31 pm
I went skating the other day. Went to this nice rail and was doing a couple of grinds you know. Then this skateboarder sees me doing the rail and says: “can i try on a pair of skates?” Luckily i brought my extra pair of Salos. These Aaron Feinberg pros were my first pair of skates ever…2001. He puts them on and starts to step grind the rail. Took him sometime to get used to the speed and landing but he started to really understand it. Finally he did something amazing for a first timer on a rail. He stepped up on his soul foot and switched to a Backside grind. First switch up on a rail. Sure he cheated but it was amazing to see. Now he begs me to find some way to bring in some Razors Icons 2 or the new Genesis Gold Razors skates and even considers Remz OS worth a shot. I couldn’t be anymore happy with his decision to give rollerblading a chance. So what does this have to do with the argument about the youth and hate? I donno. I think what i offer here is a solution. Give it a few more years. Rest of you keep hating. We need it or else there will be too many clones. The others who keep living true rollerblading life keep doing that. We need to keep the love and show what it really is. Arlo I respect that you are troubled by the viral hate market mounted against rollerblading but like several have said it can’t be avoided. It’s nothing against any professional, amatuer, casual or retired roller but like constructive critisim, it helps change opinions when they see something truly amazing. If everyone was amazed 100% of the time, we have not done anything amazing yet. That would be too easy and there is no challenge. But the fact that it’s rare to get 100% positive responses means we have achieved something great. WE NEED shit talk. We NEED love talk. We NEED Rollerblading. Life +
November 12th, 2009 at 7:37 pm
you do realize that more than half of the people on these message boards don’t even skate, right? who gives a flying fuck what they think?
Arlo does seem to be pretty damn smart, but actions speak louder than words, brother.
November 12th, 2009 at 7:38 pm
pointless story there kid
November 12th, 2009 at 7:38 pm
“what can’t kill you, only makes you stronger”
bring on the fucking hate. always funny to read anyway…
November 12th, 2009 at 7:38 pm
LEAVE ARLO ALONE!!!!!! LEAVE HIM ALONEEEEEEE!!!!!!! LEAVE HIM!!!!
leave
arlo
alone…
November 12th, 2009 at 7:44 pm
As long as people can hide behind screen names you will always and forever have idiotic comments. Think on this Arlo, did you find one, even one “hateful” comment by someone with a real name? Who knows if these people even rollerblade? Dont give it too much thought, because there will always be KEYBOARD tuffguys.
November 12th, 2009 at 7:51 pm
hes got a great point their,in short people need to stop moaning with terrible reason and maybe put a good argument foward, not to say “that sucked” or the likes, maybe just give a good reason on why they think something was stupid or if it was good etc.
The whole part about rollerblading attracting unique people dosent bother me really, people can think as they like weather you believe skating is about skating with unique people,or just people who are good at it.
I dont care because in the end,i just use rollernews to get news not to read idiots comments.
November 12th, 2009 at 7:54 pm
Arlo I agree with you 100% you’ve done so much for rollerblading and for the individuals that also support this sport keep the faith alive because if us as a family keep attacking from the inside we’ll fall just like the Roman Empire.
November 12th, 2009 at 8:06 pm
joe go fuck yourself
arlo can suck a dick
and skating is fine the way it is!!!!
November 12th, 2009 at 8:11 pm
Rolling is not a sport…… its a lifestyle, an art form, and most of all an escape from all the bullshit we have to deal with in our real lives. Simple way to put it is, anyone can draw a picture but only a chosen few can make a MASTERPIECE. And you Arlo are a true artist. If people just went out and skated more than talked more shit there would me alot more Aragons out there. But to be honest thats what separates the chiefs from the Indians. Not everyone can be on top and for that reason alone there will always be shit talkin haters that have nothin better to do but fuck up someones day. Keep doin what u have and are doing for our industry, cuz God knows rolling needs suporters to keep it alive. Rolling will never die but at the rate that the industry is going people are going to forget that we even exist and we need brave and intelligent people to run this industry and keep it alive. THATS WHAT WE SHOULD FOCUS ON …………
November 12th, 2009 at 8:13 pm
im pilipino and i dont give a rats ass. i say just keep hammering shit and ignore these ignorant ass haters. nuin we can do bout it.
pacquiao cotto fight + brandon vera vs randy couture = pilipino takin over this b*tch!!
watch next guy down there gona hate
November 12th, 2009 at 8:13 pm
Welcome to the internet
November 12th, 2009 at 8:13 pm
Don’t you all get it? It’s too hard for a hater to put forward any kind of intelligent critisim or even any intelligent hate lol. Arlo is asking for too much! These ppl just don’t have the mental capacity necessary to formulate such intelligent responses. Some of them say batter bad things than they can say good things. These ppl need to be trained in order to put a good argument forward. But we need them so that we can get stronger and also so that we know what we don’t want to be like. Divides us equally :).
November 12th, 2009 at 8:16 pm
gangsta Says:
November 12th, 2009 at 5:58 pm
I wouldn’t let comments posted by 12 year olds get to you, Arlo
indeed…
November 12th, 2009 at 8:20 pm
This is like hating on hating. People leave hating comments about things on this website, then people leaving hating comments about the people leaving the hating comments. I mean realistically disabling comments might be a good thing, but it does give everyone a voice.
I don’t think that anything is wrong with the sport generally at the moment, I am not sure what all this ’save’ rollerblading is all about, what is there to save? as long as people are even still arguing on rollernews it means there are a lot of people who care, so the sport isn’t going anywhere.
November 12th, 2009 at 8:33 pm
ha, arlo you stupid fuck, rollerblading doesn’t need you anymore.
go make more emo girl clothes with gost and let the real rollerbladers take care of everything.
November 12th, 2009 at 8:45 pm
Totally agree with you Arlo. And also the majority of kids who hate or talk shit on these forums or Message boards are exactly that “KIDS”. Kids that somehow claim they love Rollerblading, but show the same lack of respect and hatred toward fellow Rollers that they would toward skateboarders or skateboarding. Funny shit really, but I guess these kids just need to grow up and realize they are hurting the industry more than they are helping.
Peace from The Mile High city 5280!
November 12th, 2009 at 8:48 pm
My 2 cents:
there should be a flitering system…
let the elders speak, based on an actual skater evalutation and reference based system to other spotlighted skaters in the industry.
so those that pay dues and have payed them are the only ones with access to the comment board on the main pages and posts.
the gromms and trolls can remain on the board where they are free to express themselves without diluting the the focus of the elite group of contributors.
when one proves their own valuable worth through moderators that actively moderate based on real life criteria they can be pulled up to post comments on the main page.
*real life criteria does not include # of posts.
November 12th, 2009 at 9:09 pm
What a great post Arlo. I think it takes a lot of guts to call people out and be this honest. I’ve been skating for 14 years and it’s definitely changed — not for the better.
I think you hit it right on the head. Tons of hate, ignorance and inflated non existent egos.
Something does feel really cookie cutter about skating now. It could be the whole ’spin to win’ thing, the embarrassing amount of care put into what other people are wearing, or the fact that so many big important names disappeared. Whatever it is, it feels hollow now — and that’s too bad.
There’s still good in there, but it’s filled with so much bad now.
November 12th, 2009 at 9:13 pm
My 3 cents,
Let it go Arlo. The fact that Rolling lost ground, COULD BE DUE to dudes like you and MARK SHAYS. Maybe the world didnt like how you 2 repped us. Maybe, and Im saying this because when i was 16 and say ESPN rerun competitions, i had to mute that shit, cuz you guys sounded like idiots, and well, it was kind of embarrassing.
You’ve done lots for rolling, on the other hand, and for this i am grateful. BUT, you’ve done little lately. Half assing clothing companies, which everyone knows are the companies which dont last shit in rolling, cuz its such a small investment, and on top of that, you make some UGLY ass tshirts and those Valos…omg…dont get me started.
Bottom line, people hate. Yes. But its only because people are sick you you still trying to act like you ARE rollerblading, when we all know that you WERE, back in the Senate days. Now, you need to do something…something man. I dont know what, but it seems you have identity issues, and still suffer from Wee Mans heckles on tv. (you shoudla hit that piece of shit), but anyhow, make a new company that isnt a stupid logo like gost. Try a different approach. You may even attract more peole into our sport, rather than scare participants off…and for GOD’s SAKE,….wear some regular jeans man. You look like Muska’s luv child.
November 12th, 2009 at 9:20 pm
I FUCKING LOVE ROLLERBLADING!
Gonna skate tomorrow with my buddy and it will be the chillout time. fuck yeah!
November 12th, 2009 at 9:25 pm
My local skatepark was built nearly two years ago now and still iam the only rollerblader in my town…..other dedicated rollerbladers come from cambridge and surrounding villages but i think the key to rollerblading success is getting it out to the masses…..NOBODY even realises that this shit is possible on a pair of skates …….we need to get rtollerblading out to the public so little kids dont just automatically pick up a skateboard and see something different for a change…..rollerblading needs to be in the xgames and especially on the fucking MEGA RAMP as that would show people how nuts the sport is haffey doing massive slow spinning 1080’s and shit like that woopwoop roll 4 life
November 12th, 2009 at 9:33 pm
Wow. This is one of the biggest responses I’ve seen to anything for a while…
November 12th, 2009 at 9:34 pm
Sucks to hear that you’re not as into it as you used to be Arlo but you’re right, the small amount of rollers we do have should be uniting and making our subculture something to reckon with instead of keeping it down..I still love rolling
November 12th, 2009 at 9:46 pm
Let people talk shit it only makes u stronger. 4 real!!!!!!!!!! I had to learn that way, and like somebody said when we show up to parks nobody talks shit every thing is chill. 1 thing i noticed my wifes brother skateboards and ive been watching alot of his videos same music and the way they are edited. It really seems like rollerblading is copying skate boarding and then i seen the c.c.s skate boarding clothing magazine and alot of the same designs. its kind of funny. My own opinion and observation though. It doesnt matter who talks shit it makes u stronger and im sure everybody knows that. Look at Joe dirt people talked shit on him and he made it. Lol. Dont be so but hurt. Its really not that bad. so chill!!!!!!!!!!!!!
November 12th, 2009 at 9:59 pm

THAT IS KINDA TRUE ….. but other than that yes those kids are pure haters

Im sorry but this souldnt be more true

In the world today, especially in Megamerica, its much more socially acceptable to be a complete fucking tool than to practice common sense and logic. So from the get go we are totally fucked. period.
November 12th, 2009 at 10:11 pm
and guz you fucking idiot. The difference between Arlo and Sal Masekala is not why rollerblading is unpopular. Joe Rogan sounds like a fuckin idiot, talking about how sweaty the dudes in the UFC are, but that shit is the most popular shit in the world. Get fucked.
November 12th, 2009 at 10:14 pm
Portas – Nice post, good point!
yo Josh i think people should rollerblade because they love to do it! not because its just something to do! yeah arlos post hurt a little bit!
i have also always thought that rollerblading only attracted a certain breed of person!
ive been rollerblading as long as i can remember! and before that i know i had quad skates! so its been there all my life and i think thats why i love it so much!
so you guys cant really criticize the skate companys for focusing on the kids skate or the recreational skates or trying to promote skating in new ways because thats how we can introduce this love for rollerblading to the kids! its not like anyones forgot about us OG’s look at Remz and the new Carbons! $300+++ who’s gonna buy that apart from a VERY small market of people! atleast they still care about us enuff to still make skates!
i’m not gonna pretend i know how the industry is run or that i know anything about business! but it sucks to see all this hate between everyone over nothing and i hate that rollerblading and rollerbladers dont get the respect or recognition we all deserve for braking those barriers and dropping the hammers!!
if theres some beef up there in the high ranks with companys or skaters just sort it out or get over it.
And fuck what people say on the internet!! sticks and stones!
November 12th, 2009 at 10:15 pm
Forums in general are a double edged sword. On one side they give anyone with internet access a voice that can be heard by a community of users that share a common interest. On the other side they allow people to make comments with little to no thought, often exaggerated forms of an idea that they would never deliver to readers face to face.
My thoughts on where the sport is headed aren’t as valid as someone that owns a company in the rollerblading industry. However for those that care to listen, here is my 2 cents.
While I still love the feeling I get while I’m on my blades, it is just a hobby. People have many hobbies. If you look at the type of consumer that tends to gravitate towards action sports you will see that they have many options to choose from.
If you are concerned with growing the sport, the key here is to make rollerblading appear to be more appealing than the competing action sports. “Features tell, benefits sell”. When a consumer ultimately makes a decision to participate in one action sport over the other, it is because they perceive the benefits that go along with the chosen sport to be greater than the other options.
I live in San Diego and in the consumers eyes surfing is a lifestyle. Skateboarding is a lifestyle. Cycling is a lifestyle. I ride my skates to class at CSUSM and people look at me like an outcast. For the sport to have any chance growing on a large scale people will need to begin associating rollerblading with a lifestyle that has more appeal than it’s competitors. How do you make grinding down a gnarly rail or ledge more appealing than surfing next to some beautiful girl in the ocean? How do you make grinding on skates more appealing than doing a kick flip off a curb? Find a way to do that and the sport can grow. (This is far from an easy task)
There are too many people that have made major contributions to the sport to start name dropping, but since this article was written by Arlo I will direct this comment to him (although it applies to anyone that has truly poured their heart and soul into growing the sport): You have done a great deal for rollerblading. Take the time to stop and smell the roses. Look what you have created. “Life is a journey, not a destination.” The growth of any industry is a journey, not a destination. If you aren’t enjoying that journey, find another path.
Shit talking on anonymous forums is to be expected by an inherently selfish, destructive species. I wouldn’t take anything half of these kids say too seriously.

Haters are not only kids for sure !!!!!!
Nowadays, kids don’t know about Dustin Latimer,Randy Spizer or Arlo what a shame …
but the question is “because of who…?” there is a knowlegde in blading, a proper culture… but if the older bladers do not transmit their knowledge about blading, the next generation starts with new basics…
Kids are not anymore concerned by the style but they pay much attention to performance !!
what do you think about it ??
my exaples are taken from Paris kids in Bercy.

boooooooooooooooooooooring!
I shouldnt really reply or write anything in this thread as it makes me a complete fuckwit, but… its been a long time since I have talked shit so and acted like a dickhead so here it is….
Is it me or is Arlo hating on haters? I cant believe that you (Arlo) took the time out to write about a subject that is pathetic and outdated, get a life.
I am just wondering wether it was some kind of marketing ploy to promote GOST. But hey what would I know I am a hater and a mongrel.
So, next time Arlo, unless you have something constructive to say, keep your individual or rather everyday, hating, inbred yankee, trap shut and get off your high horse.
I love you really Arlo, but you must know by now that anyone, who knows anything about the internet/rollerblading, that starts a mundane thread on a topic like this will get and must be expecting, and hoping for a bunch of retarded replies.
Peace and Love and like Spary said:
“What cant kill you only makes you stronger”
P.S Wasn’t that boring after all ^^
November 12th, 2009 at 10:45 pm
Many people on here have made well written, thoughtful statements. However, let’s not use “everyone else hates” as a justification for poor behavior. I like to think Rollerbladers are capable of acting better than the average forum commenter. Some critique is healthy, RN hate has gone overboard.
November 12th, 2009 at 10:45 pm
100% back what Arlo’s saying! Rollerblading just isn’t as special as it used to be (I think most skaters from the mid 90’s & that are still skating today would also agree) The magic has somewhat left it in some ways. Im kinda glad that the internet wasn’t a vital part of everyday life when i started skating (It was all about the “skate video culture” and the lifestyle that made it so appelling to me & most importantly the personalitys in rollerblading!!! – Hoax 2 for example, no video represented skating better, each one of them was a charactor that you could look up to & get to know & foremost made skating look as fun as it could possibly be. Where is that in skating today? Tell me any skater today that has personalty or is interesting, other than just being a great skater. There’s 1000’s of great skaters but who care’s, do they stand out? For me that’s what Arlo did great was that he brought more to skating than just the skating itself! He represented the sport well on TV interviews as he was articulate and charismatic which made people listen and gave rollerblading a bt of a buzz. Totally disagree with the whole something like NIKE should be running the industry! What CRAP… I do think rollerblading does/has attracted a certain sort of person and if Nike’s marketing it you will a have every little chav kid at the skatepark thinking its cool for 5 minutes (til they get bored & quit) which I frankly would be embaressed to around. It is a lifestyle/culture which i am proud to say i have been part of for last 14 years. It’s survived this long how it is & i dont see that changing anytime soon, keep it core! Nuff said.

“First of all I find it unsettling that an industry that has been so decimated over the past several years and that has come under such vicious attack from so many corners would be so fractured and cannibalistic within its own ranks. Don’t rollerbladers have enough to overcome without having to worry about OTHER rollerbladers”…………………this is the same thing ive been thinking for years now…
November 12th, 2009 at 11:10 pm
I grew up skating in southern california, in my opinion the best place to grow up skating, great parks, amazing street spots everywhere, spots in videos and of course, lots of the pros live there. But the kids are dicks, if they talk to a pro, they will not bother talking or skating with someone that doesn’t, its all clicks and getting to the top. Thats human nature and thats fine. But when people talk shit on rollerblading and its bladers, thats how it should be. The ones who know the most. Most pros are asses, and with that, the kids who do skate with the pros are usually asses too.

November 12th, 2009 at 11:16 pm
please arlo grace us with a nother response, you started a big discussion here
November 12th, 2009 at 11:19 pm
Love or hate, I’m still gonna skate.
I don’t have time for debate, I’m still gonna skate.
People are still gonna have their own opinions, and I can respect that, but they’re not skating for me. I’m gonna roll till my wheels fall off.
Have fun rolling or don’t.
Live for yourself. Peace.
November 12th, 2009 at 11:42 pm
the only reason rollerblading is a fringe sport for outsiders is because that’s what Arlo wants it to be and has wanted from the beginning. he marketed it that way, he promoted it as being that way, and he wants to keep it that way. he’s not in charge anymore – he lost all say when he started commenting for ESPN (still better than Mark Shays though!).
people bitch because that is the nature of the internet, not rollerblading.
kids will be kids, dicks will be dicks, arlo will be arlo.
whatever. it’s getting to cold to skate outside here again, depressing.
November 13th, 2009 at 12:05 am
yeah arlo was for sure not a good representation of our sport in those early days
and i have no idea why the fuck you guys take shit talking seriously…im pretty sure most of the time when kids talk shit, there just joking, fucking around trying to start shit, its not a big fucking deal
but it really does piss me off when i see the same fucking edits over and over,
people need to make different types of edit if you want people to like it,
cuz everythings already been done, over and over
November 13th, 2009 at 12:18 am
yeah like when i see edits on here, sometimes ill get pissed because ill see kids skating that are bad representations of our sport,
such as skinny ass jeans, that shit doesnt look cool, vlux pants are ok i guess but pants that look like spandex is a fucking joke
arlo youve had your time and you blew it, so get outta here
November 13th, 2009 at 12:19 am
wow this post on rollernews.com was such a backfire
im prety sure it did the exact opposite of what arlo wanted
November 13th, 2009 at 12:21 am
Arlo is the main reason that I started rollerblading back in 95′ and he is still one of the biggest reasons for why I still skate today. When I say this I know im speaking for a lot of people. No one made rollerblading as cool as Arlo did back in the day. The positive impact that he has had on the sport can not be touched by anyone. Skaters should show more respect to one another but then again its the internet and its 2009 so the outlook doesn’t look good.
Alro, just know that there are WAAAY more people that have respect for you than people who don’t. The day is coming closer that rollerblading will be popular again and people like Arlo, Julio, Shima, Shane Coburn, and many others will be glad they stuck around because they are the true heros of this sport and they deserve the recognition.
November 13th, 2009 at 12:23 am
ARLO, YOU ARE GREAT.
I APPRECIATE WHAT YOU DONE.
DETROIT LOVES YOU.
LIVE, FROM THE HATER CAPITAL OF THE WORLD.
CATCH ME UPTOWN, HOES.
SHOOTING POOL.
November 13th, 2009 at 12:26 am
OH YEAH, THE ONLY THING THAT COULD POTENTIALLY RUIN BLADING IS THE LACK OF BLADERS.
EITHER THAT OR HIPSTERS, NOT TOO SURE.
MAYBE SO-CAL.
HA.
JUST CLOWNING.
November 13th, 2009 at 12:31 am
i quit rolling man… hahahahahaha never!! i’m 32 now and dont care. still skating every weekend. with haters or not. dont hate the haters!
November 13th, 2009 at 1:03 am
Yes, the trash talking does need to stop. For example, about a year ago a really good skater from atlanta (Mike Harper) posted a video on here and it was fuckin sick. Mike was only 16 at the time and was doing some of the hardest grinds on huge rails. Mikes style is not bad at all, hes a lanky guy, but for some reason people posted comments about how shitty his style was, and calling him a pussy for wearing a helment. I bet so much that half the kids leaving theese comments couldnt do half the shit mike can do, but because of a few flaws all the sudden he sucks….? If you dont have something good or respectfull to say keep the comments to urself because nowone wants to here them.
November 13th, 2009 at 1:11 am
it’s ridiculous how people diss arlo. you can skate with or without him.
i am glad i don’t live in the USA, from what i read from some posts i’m glad i don’t have to see ridiculous things like kids laughing at other kids because they wear a helmet, or go to their skatepark with their parents. i can’t believe why anyone would look at you like an outcast just because you go around on skates… the same goes with that skaterboarder vs inline skater fight, pathetic.
November 13th, 2009 at 1:20 am
Welcome to the internet people. Anonymity grows balls, and that’s when the trolls start coming out. Allow to quote an awesome line from an awesome movie (Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back)…
“The Internet is a communication tool used the world over where people can come together to bitch about movies and share pornography with one another. ”
Just change “movies” to “everything” and “pornography” to…well…actually, that one is still the same.
November 13th, 2009 at 1:33 am
dude anyone with a real opinion isnt going to post it on a site like this cuz they are too busy doing the things they love which is skating. all the poeple who complain online are just unmodivated to skate so they sit and complain about the people trying to make a difference
November 13th, 2009 at 1:45 am
I didn’t read all of these comments, but I feel that if you’re asking for individuality, the “shit-talkers” are necessary. For one, if everybody responds in the same positive fashion to an edit or to a person’s style, then there is no real individuality (through the internet). Also, how are we going to learn what’s new and what’s good in the industry without the voices of our people? There will always be at least one person that doesn’t agree with the stimulus.
I have only experienced this negativity on the internet, never in person. If you go to a park and see another rollerblader it’s always like seeing a distant relative, unlike many other mainstream sports.
November 13th, 2009 at 1:52 am
WORD UP TO RALPH- Awesome reply man. Escozoo
November 13th, 2009 at 1:59 am
you all take these comments to fucking seriously, just shut the fuck up, you all probly take your lives too seriously too
brazilionaire is the guy who will bring rollerblading into the dark ages,
remember i fucking said that
November 13th, 2009 at 2:06 am
hey guess what, Rob G is really good at blading.
November 13th, 2009 at 2:18 am
has nobody thought of this?
for one, there would be so much less shit talking on this site if you had to make an account
because with out that kids can just come on here and post however many comments they want, under different names
so 75% of the shit talking on this site is contributed to how poorly it is made and run
im sick of hearing all these peoples pussies whining for some dick
because they got their feelings hurt by some comments boo fucking hoo
instead of “your not a bitch, your a rollerblader”
its “your a bitch, your not a rollerblader”
true rollerbladers wouldnt give a shit, they would just skate for fun
November 13th, 2009 at 2:29 am
Arlo … you r a legend… noone can ever take that away from you.But please shut the hell up already…
November 13th, 2009 at 2:40 am

Haters will hate skaters will skate everyone just needs to masterbate.
November 13th, 2009 at 3:31 am
Arlo
Youre a hero to me. Been skating for 12 years. Met you at ASA world champs back in 2004.
I’ve lost touch with the industry, so I probably shouldnt speak up, but, dude, its the internet!!
The internet brings out the ugly side of people. Anonymity enables cowards to spread venomous words for amusement. It makes you lose faith in the human race
If they make you mad, then they have won.
November 13th, 2009 at 3:34 am
Damn Arlo is still the best! Ya just like when we posted our edit for the Hawaii street comp and i had a few post that just pissed me off. But when posting on rollernews i know people will talk shit and i just dont give a fly’n Fuck. I skate Manana with one or two roller heads and sometime i skate alone because everyone is at work, school, dont drive, or say its too far of a drive. If anyone wants to skate or talk mad shit come to Oahu and go to Manana Skate Park Mondays, Wednesday, and sometimes Fridays.
Love Akari <3
November 13th, 2009 at 4:12 am
arlo your a cool dude, but dont let hating or haters get the best of you, it may hurt alot of kids pride but it will make them stronger. People talk shit and hate all the time for example I bought a pack of marlbro reds and got banged on and shit talk from a crip just cause the pack was red.wtf. its all good though now I buy a pack of marlbro blues. J/k.
November 13th, 2009 at 4:14 am
Arlo is right, but its not going to change….all we can do is go out there put our heart into it and skate everyday
November 13th, 2009 at 4:22 am
gotta give it up for yah Arlo, you gotta be one of the most out spoken rollers in the industry. way to back your shit up in a non insulting, intelligent way. keep it up
November 13th, 2009 at 4:31 am
word to this post
November 13th, 2009 at 4:58 am
i think they hate when they cant fit with what you represent, or sometimes, just because they’re right.
And (relative) public men (like Arlo & proskaters) have to deal with popular criticism, must of all, when they represent a community.
We have to be clear about criticism and hate.
What i feel about arlo’s text is “hate is bad, love is good, we have to love each others”, not wrong, but not enough nuanced. It remember me a law they want to pass “it will be impossible to express your hate on the internet”, but a such thing can quiclky slide to “it will be impossible to criticize on the internet” , a fucking love fascism, not really a constructive thing too.
Criticism is the key to reach something bigger
November 13th, 2009 at 5:01 am
hilarious replies in here. some of you make semi-relative points. but most of it is crap.
November 13th, 2009 at 5:11 am
You’re the man Arlo, don’t lose hope just yet.
November 13th, 2009 at 5:25 am
DL:”Too many people in our sport are still in the spotlight because of what they have done not because they are progressing the sport”
Arlo GTFO.
November 13th, 2009 at 5:30 am
its become some kind of joke in the industry huh?
yeah because here people arent afraid to tell you guys that were fucking unhappy with the shitty products weve been getting?
ive been paying 20 times what it takes to make a pair of skates for the last 8 years, and some how skates cant last me more than a year
you would think 300 dollars for a pair of skates, would hold up over the years and not hurt the fuck out of your feet after a year of skating them
the only fucking joke here is arlo and the industry itself
November 13th, 2009 at 5:33 am
hell yea that dl quote is perfect, dustin latimar was one of the best skaters ever, you dont see him sticking around rollerblading trying to milk all the money he can out of it do you
November 13th, 2009 at 6:10 am
“all you need is love” John Lennon
WORD!
November 13th, 2009 at 6:23 am
ive been rollin since ‘96. ive seen the inception, rise and fall of rollerblading. its funny how things have changed so much in our sport. from the people that fell away because they didnt love it like we did, to the tight pants thing. and i still stand here saying, life is a handrail and i got my boots laced! who cares about everyones pitty parties and shit like that. we are humans we will always have things to complain about or hate on other about. its human nature. rollerblading was (is) something above that. ive never seen anything on earth pull together different countries, mass amounts of different peoples and cultures together, for one common love. regardless we are all rollers arent we??? i think we need to treat each other like that… Wheres the session!!!
November 13th, 2009 at 6:43 am
Moderate the comments properly then?? Make people have to sign in??
November 13th, 2009 at 7:00 am
lol! very entertaining read. good mix of arlo bashers and ball lickers
November 13th, 2009 at 7:30 am
arlo crying about his anal rights again….
November 13th, 2009 at 8:40 am
This post is more pathetic than any opinions expressed via Rollernews. Our sport has a lot of diversity….that’s it, you can’t all be into the same thing or every Rollerblading video that comes out would be the same.
Also, why have a comment section at all if people are going to bitch every time someone gives something they’re not particularly into a bit of negative feedback? If you all really believe in what you’re doing…who gives a fuck if someone hates you or not. Ah guys….look, lets hate what we dislike, like what we love, all man up just a tad…strap on some Skates…and get fucked up?
Bye.
November 13th, 2009 at 9:54 am
Arlo…. it is obvious that you put a lot of thought into that blurb, but what you need to remember is that many of the people that you are complaining about are young teens… kids are going to hate and be angry, try not to be so emo about it dude…. you are like 30 something, you cant expect to understand the attitude and behavior of kids half your age. dont expect to have anything more in common with fellow fruit booters then the skates on your feet…… your valos are looking pretty strange by the way, ha ha….. we are all individuals that come together to skate then go our separate ways… of course there is going to be an abundance of haters, but that is the case with any sport…… oh, and well im in the mood to share my opinions, senate wheels and liners are a disgrace these days dude……… i know you have nothing to do with that company any longer, but you created a monster man….. those freaking wheels blow up on contact with concrete…………. take care man
November 13th, 2009 at 11:54 am
Yet again.
WHO GIVES A FUCK MATE
November 13th, 2009 at 12:15 pm
Arlo. Have you ever thought maybe people dont even rollerblade comment on these boards..like me? Rollerblading attracts all sorts of people. Rich, poor, ugly beautiful, rough, tough, stupid, funny, pathetic. Your very narrow minded in your views. If you dont want shit thrown at you…stop blurting your emotions out every 5 minutes. the only person bringing rollerblading down is the person who brought it up. YOU
November 13th, 2009 at 7:07 pm
isn’t this kind of what the skateboarders wanted us to learn, that we’re not as special as we thought we were? we thought we were rockstars because our sport was the fastest growing sport in North America, it was suddenly on ESPN, MTV, in commercials for Taco Bell, Mountain Dew, DirectTV, and even Oreo Cookies (anyone remember a skater named Webby!=)!). Comapnies like FILA and K2 were making skates and signing contracts with teenage skaters for thousands of dollars a year, the list really goes on and on and it made us feel like what we were doing was special on a grand scale. all this spawned the “F@#k you, i rollerblade” era, and now i think we’re just having to pay for those negative attitudes that came from us thinking we were rockstars. Also, when we were attacked for not having developed the same type of “lifestyle” as skateboarders, we turned to partying and claimed drinking beer and trying to get laid every night were somehow our lifestyle. we just need more positive roots and something more attractive than getting shitfaced every night, you know, something parents and any decent american could support or at least stomach. yes, many juveniles in our sport have bad attitudes, but we need to be doing our part to correct those attitudes, not give an excuse for or condone them. We just need more positive leadership and skaters who are able to unite for a common vision, and then it will grow, but not until then.
don’t get down arlo, focus on the good. Many of us still LOVE rollerblading, me for no other reason than the feeling i get when i nail a trick perfectly, you know? and it shouldn’t matter what age you are, what ability level, good style or ugly style, when you’ve been working on a trick and then finally you get one and it feels just right, you’re grinding and you’ve nailed it so good that you’re just sliding, you don’t have to move your arms at all because you’re in that perfect balance point, it’s like time is standing still, and I swear that there is no better feeling in the world!
November 13th, 2009 at 7:43 pm

lolll, do you even rollerblade?
November 13th, 2009 at 10:11 pm
I just think its funny Arlo thinks he’s the king/god/father/scarface of rollerblading
November 13th, 2009 at 11:00 pm
Drop skate prices, kids at the park ask how much skates cost and u tell them 300 dollars they aint going 2 want 2 skate, they would rather skateboard and pay 30 bucks 4 a new deck, when we pay 200, 300 4 a shell. thats bullshit. Why does it cost so much when so cheaply made?
November 14th, 2009 at 1:20 am
Still rolling… since 1989
Yeap same is here, in my contry there is a lot of haters,

Im still deep in soul with rolling, im little tired of all

the point is Arlo is a fucking legend …most of you 12yr old fucks arent ….fuck off about rollerbladin scene if you follow it as a trend ….rollerblade if you love rollerblading not bc it seems cool or everyones doing it….honestly this site has been infested with ppl who post pics up and talk about what skates they have and how cool they look….doesnt matter if you have ugly skates or a clean pair rollerblading is rolerblading….everyone who shit talks on arlo is a fucking moron ….if you guys werent then you would be a pro now wouldnt you?but you arent. instead of shit talking go outside and step up your game on rollerblading or get the fuck out and push wood.
November 14th, 2009 at 3:33 am
Hey Arlo, whats up? I dont read comments unless the have a real name associated with them, and I find most of them to be intelligent, thoughtful post. I saw you on MTV sports way back souling this rail back in the early ninetys and Im still progressing to this day. Im pretty much with Shima on Rollerbladers: “I dont feel most rollerbladers”
You are a legend bro and all of the people who have truly payed their dues in this game respect you as the pioneer, the architect.
Hopefully Ill see you at X.
Peace and Love to you and your family.
November 14th, 2009 at 8:07 am
no the point is, arlo was a legend, then he fell off Chris haffey is a legend, brian shima is a legend, Broskow was a legend back in the day, now hes just a hero
Arlo your blowinnn it mannn, i mean come on man anybody who skates around in spandex in their own skatepark shouldnt be taken seriously
November 14th, 2009 at 10:07 am
to dear Arlo Eisenberg…. props to you in the early days…. i respects and appreciate what you’ve done for the sport all these years…
well one thing for sure, talking crap online doesnt necessary mean that these people dont love our sport dont you think?
this world has no rules saying that ‘no shit talkers allowed’ dont you think?
all i wanna say is…try think the other way around….
shit talking can sometimes provoke some kinda creativity aint it?
well no insults on you just trying to tell you think the other way around….
like all fans of other sports do….
November 14th, 2009 at 1:11 pm
seriously what the hell is goign on? iv been rolling since i was 7 and im nearly 22 now. i watch vids and check out pics on rollernews but i dont really read comments from others because i frankly dont care. every one has their own opions and they can say what they want, doesnt mean you have to agree. people on here who are slagging arlo in my opion are idiots. what hes trying to say at the bare bones of his comment is that stop bitching about rollerblading!!! if you dont like something a trick in bladin then dont do it or if you dont like a company then dont buy there products. i dont really like usd boots coz i dont sk8 um well doesnt mean im going to slate them till i damage there rep. i started out following the crowd and found my own style so arlo i do disagree with you their but i do see your point that some people base thier own opions on what is popular.
seriously stop bitchin, get on with it and just enjoy going out for a sk8
November 14th, 2009 at 7:36 pm
go sell t shirts industry man
November 14th, 2009 at 11:39 pm
its funny that arlo puts peoples names in this post that were licking his balls in the last section
November 14th, 2009 at 11:45 pm
anybody on here saying to shut the hell up and go skate obviously does not know shit…
you guys are paying way too much for skates and you dont even care
see i would go skate, except for the fact that all my skates are shit
therefore i would rather be here talking shit hoping to get that shit fixed
and now there coming out with these “carbons” for 350 boot only, haha what a fucking rip off, glow in the dark skates for 400,
come on
instead of 300 for the standard “good” skate price it should at most be 150 and thats still ripping us off, you kids have no idea
November 15th, 2009 at 1:49 am
way to many comments on this, i totally agree, i was shocked at the number of shithead whining stupid annoying little kids at woodward. and im even more shocked to see all the dumb comments on this thread. its bullshit. arlo made rollerblading so he does as he pleases.
