3d animations by Anthony Mcgrath
3d animation I did a while back (like 4 or 5 years ago hehe!) of a skater doing a few tricks.
Animation is quite poor now but thought I’d youtube it anyhow. all done in Maya and comp’d together in Adobe Afx. Did want to do a more advanced version of this but didn’t get any spare time.
A few years ago I did a skating animation that was quite popular. It got a few nice comments on here and it seemed to go down well with alot of skaters.
Anyhow I decided it would be fun to return to a similar project seeing as I’ve been working as a character animator for the last couple of years, and see how I tackle a similar piece this time around. I think my animation skills are a fair bit better than the first one I did but anyhow I’ll let viewers decide :)
The piece is twice as long as the last one and i tried to do some shots where the character would go from one trick into another or make it look like it was filmed by a friend in places so there are no fancy camera motions.
The project was animated & rendered in maya and edited in Adobe Afx.
Audio track is Medicine Man by Playgroup.

one thing tho the part where hes sitting bobbing his head
it looks like hes wearing a left skate on his right foot
might want to fix that

To be honnest i liked the first one more than the second!!
Man i’m sure some companys would accept to offer you a job of making more of thoses videos. It would be interesting to make live a regular rollerblader life, don’t know if you understand me very well but just to make him live and not only skate, that would so so cool!!
Anyway seeing how difficult it is to use Adobe Afx, the only thning i can tell you is RESPECT man, it’s really amazing!!
Hope to seen other videos like that quite soon!!

this guy should make a video game consisting of being a real fucking rollerblader and doing real rollerblader shit… the graphics this guy has i what 5 years old..how good is it now? it should be a videogame definitely i need a new one and im sure every fucking roller does too… and you gotta make the video game super real but super cool like we can talk to people and go win comps, street skate, make money, OWN A BUSINESS AND SELL PRODUCTS, and make money and to win you have to get the girl and make rolleblade babies…. and so much more shit….. that would be a dope game…. put that into play fucker!

LOVELY!!! man I got stoned when I watched this the first time on youtube!!! I LOVE YOUR WORK for so long!!! the caracter has style!!! and all the tricks are sooo nice, and so perfect!!! I work with CG too, but I’m more of a compositor than 3D animator… congratulations bro! one day I’ll ge there! unbelievable work!!! congrats man!! sick stuff!

that was really good. i liked the DL words reference with the cess slide on the car and the little things like the skater scratching his nose before jumping on a rail. Also the freestyle fish on the quarter was so Jeff Stockwell-ish, i forgot i was watching an animation for a split second. great work dude!

cess slide on the car was definitely sick, the whole thing is like being at a movie or something, this could ABSOLUTELY draw kids into our sport, skateboarding can only last so long as a trend, and then the kids will want something new, this could be it!
