Montreal is a multicultural city with all kinds of people, the skaters here all come from different backgrounds working different careers; French baker, architect, stuntman and plain Gypsies.
Skating is the one passion that managed to gather all these individuals together and with it grew friendships behond skating.
After sessions are always good times, the night life is really exciting and you can always find a group of the skating scene out partying and most times all the original Family Matters crew out together enjoying this amazing city.
Mostly skating and working at Taz… teaching kids at the skate park.
What is your job at Taz?
I run the summer camp. I give private rollerblade lessons to kids and adults, or whoever wants to learn. I do some other stuff, like organize camps with schools.
Sometimes a school will come in and I’ll teach a class or two. You know, some classes are up to 60 or 80 kids at a time. I also do the occasional demo here and there. Casual skate related gigs.
I heard there is a Nicky Adams workout?
Yup, something I do with the kids. Drop to the ground give me fifty! Give me fifty jumps with your skates on. Lift up your knees as high as you can! I just try to make young kids stronger on their feet while they are on their skates.
Get their balance up, get them ready to fall while putting their arms down. Making them do push-ups, jumping jacks, everything. Give them a general full body work out before they get out there and start falling over themselves. [...]
I caught up with Nicky Adams while I was in Montreal for a weekend. We skated one of his favorite ledges in Westmount park for an hour, and then had a fun session at the Taz skatepark. — Immony Men.

After a not in HD DVD and a Canadian tour, in 2011 Family Matters is growing into something bigger than just a bunch of friends filming. This year Family Matters is a big project for the montreal scene.
The guys are putting different events together such as a bowl contest at Le Taz, a street contest, BBQ sessions, video premieres just a ton of motivation for the kids. Giving back to skating what they have received from it; a lot of love. To this “Family Matters II” is a bigger more serious project, involving the entire montreal skate scene.
This time filmed in HD with more riders, this will be a real representation of Montreal 2011. Directed by Guillaume Latrompette.
Every week we are putting teasers online to introduce the skaters in the video. Here is Daniel Millar who’s actually now working in China doing demos in an amusement park.

Street & park clips of mister Nicky Adams. We filmed in Montreal & Ottawa last summer in order to offer you this short video edit.
Nicky Adams was in the Salomon Pro team back in the day and he won the X-games in 1999 (first black to win a gold medal).
He had few exposure these last years but he never left rollerblading. He is one of the most professional skater I skated and filmed with. He lace his tricks first try most of the time and always do it with the biggest smile and swag ever.
Filmed by Cedric Duchemin & Guillaume Latrompette ; Edited by Guillaume Latrompette.
Canada’s biggest and most prestigious contest returned for another year, but bringing the event forward to June produced a smaller attendance, although the quality of skating was unaffected.
The amateur contest continued to be nothing short of a Montreal showcase demo with the locals taking full advantage of hours of practise to comfortably own the top spots… Respect to Max Free, Kevin Lapierre and Dan Millar who stood out for me. (Cont’d. after video).
The Pro contest, despite a smaller turnout than previous years, was as tense as always. Jerry Butler pushing through exhaustion to throw down some of the biggest stunts capable in such a challenging park; Adrien Anne was style personified with relaxed butter-smooth switchups and a flawless zero fish down the big grindbox.
