  4. smokey macpot Says:

do a street contest next year?

  5. johnny long cock Says:

our industry can’t even put on a real contest for the finals anymore. its no wonder we’re a speck compared to the other sports.

  6. Craig Smith Says:

    Let me get this straight.

Your asking for filmers/editors to put in time and effort to make an edit, with no reason to do so?
Who’s dumb enough to do that?

I’ve been in the game for about 12 years, made 4 DVD’s, contributed a lot of footage to countless other DVD’s, made a 6 episode TV show series on rollerblading for community television here in Melbourne, made 30-40 or so edits, and put rollerblading on the front page of Vimeo, and now I cant even afford to own a pair of skates… There is nothing in it for rollerblading filmmakers, and eventually we will start to see that and we will all lose the love.

Give credit where credit is due.

    I quit.

^nah, it’s not the Finals this year, rather a separate event. there’s an interview about it on the ONE website.

They are trying to have a World Finals but they want it to be more special than just a park comp or something like that. To me that means that if they have a park comp, they know CJ will kill them all again, so they’re trying to figure out something else. lol

kinda lame to use the same song as the VG BMC intro, but maybe it was an homage

  9. Anonymous Says:

@damn: there won’t be any finals either

Will there be another WRS Finals event, and what are the criteria that will make that possible?

This is something that we are continually struggling with. As great as it would be to have a true WRS World Finals event again, I don’t think it is worth pursuing until it can really be something special. A typical park contest just really isn’t good enough in my opinion. There are some great venues out there, but personally I want to be able to offer something new and exciting before we revisit the WRS World Finals. – Daniel Kinney.

    NO PARK
    NO DAVELANG2PUTE

    @ anonymous

it sounds like they’re still trying to have a world finals though, doesn’t it? they just want it to be something more than “a typical park contest.” But you’re probably right. In the end they’ll just say they couldn’t think of anything “special” enough.

Imagine if he was talking about baseball.

As great as it would be to have a true World Series again, I don’t think it is worth pursuing until it can really be something special. A typical World Series just really isn’t good enough in my opinion. There are some great venues out there, but personally I want to be able to offer something new and exciting before we revisit the World Series.

But isn’t it the competitive spirit that makes the event great? The fact that you never know who could win or have a breakout performance? How about the motivation it provides young skaters to try and become WORLD CHAMPION? And for kids that are new on the scene like Nils, wouldn’t any venue be new and exciting, since they have never skated in the US before? Really I think it is the skaters that are getting old and boring, not the venues or the concepts. And I wouldn’t mind a few of the older pros sticking around if there were more young bucks to watch. I could just watch the skaters that I am interested in, and olderbladers could still watch their favorite skaters from back when they were kids.

Also, I want to see CJ now that he finally got a sponsor again. Guaranteed that CJ would make even Modern Skatepark exciting once again.

  13. Jon Jenkins Says:

Give compensation to good filmers! Rollerblading looks disgusting when its not filmed good. People who take pride in their filming deserve something. Get with it.
