The New Movement: Dipskate

dipskate

Published: Wednesday - May 2, 2007
Words by Starrene Rhett

Like a true leader, Ramelle Knight understands what he must do in order to be followed. Along with partner, Calvin Sayles, the New York native leads Dipskate, a “freestyle rolling” team supported by and affiliated with Dipset and lifestyle brand, B.Unique. Although the extreme sport is relatively new, the culture has always existed, explained Knight, but people are finally starting to get up on game.

“We’re here to show them that the style is bigger than what everybody thought,” he said. “Everybody now, with the clothing lifestyle, is wearing the colorful hoodies with the logos, the chains on the wallets, the style of jeans — That’s all skater-influenced, we’ve been doing all of that for years.”

    fucking end this already.

the “skate clothing company” idea is as dead as commerical rap. no one cares about hood rat schemes any more. the world has moved on, maybe it is time these guys do the same.

  2. Tone Tone Says:

Man fuck yo white ass, they doing it big, all yall emo fucks pissed now becus ppl aint worried about all you gay asses wearing girl pants no more its old news we know yalll gay…just stfu if u aint got shit positive to say dont say it at all fuck face…now ima DIpSkate the fuck outta here

  3. wes Says:

i think what dipskate is doing is good for rollerblading or freestyle rolling. (whatever you call it) i support how there coming at it at a different angle and theyve gotten lots of attention drawn towards rollerblading so i support them even if i do wear tight pants now and then

Pathetic… dirty racist… Dipskate is a good idea but don’t make it becoming a ethnic movement…

  5. MYLO GRABS Says:

shut the fuck you bunch of soppy cunts go skate something you could probably use the practice you fuckin chumps, no one give a fuck about your opinion or you race or your fucking jeans, stop representing skaters a such bitch made fukin punks!

  6. usdrollerrob Says:

you know everybody who hates dipskate just gives them more spotlight when you post because everytime a dipskate topic is on rollernews it gets 50million comments. that tells us that they are making a big impact on the skating community, whether positive or negative. so the best thing you need to do is not waste your breathe making a big deal out of dipskate if you don’t like it.

  7. mejle Says:

okay this has got to stop. Listen to this.

Ramelle mentioned in one of those interviews that rollerblading basically died in 2002 - WORDS GOT RELEASED IN 2002!!!! WTF? How can this fit together? Ramelle please let me know if you read this, becuase you have to fucking justify that comment.

And what is the reason for picking on skateboarding? I would understand it if some of the small kids from the local skate park had a beef with some boarders, but you? You really want to set a fucking example for the whole MTV generation (as if they haven’t got enough bullshit stuffed in their brains already) - and then you speak public bullshit like that about a culture that was equal to ours at some point.

The last couple of public appearances by dipskate, made me seriously think of selling my skates. It made me think of how ashamed I would feel if any non-rollerblader came up to me talking about rollerblading, because they got their first-hand knowledge about this culture from one of your public appearances.

And what is up with the whole “i came from the hood”-story? You see that is just so irellevant - you’re just hyping your story to get cool image. What about letting your skating do the talking and express yourself that way instead of posing in photos and hyping yourself so much? I know that doesn’t make you a nice MTV celebrity, which for some reason seems to be your dream, but still…

You guys are hyping and preaching in all these videos, but you hardly do any skating - why would you promote the dipskate team in video edits and only use other skaters in the edits?

Ok I could on for hours but I feel bad already that I wasted time giving you guys attention…

Take care and please spread some good, honest, non-commercialised, non-bullshit, non-trashtalk vibes from now on.

    Peace!

  8. Ogre_King Says:

The Dipskate movement is what we need to prevail. They ain’t hitting the mainstream and trying to sell out like them skateboarders. Like Ramelle Knight said: “We’re just bringing freestyle rolling to the masses”. It’s about time that we went out and wow everyone with our presence without sucking on Corporate America’s d***. Let’s face it. The industry is in danger of getting annihilated if we go way too underground. I like the fact that rollers were shunned out of the mainstream since it makes us dedicated, unique, and undiluted but these companies that manufacture skates are gonna go bankrupt if money and investments ain’t pouring in. Take Mindgame for example. I wouldn’t want to end up buying from 2 different brands only in the future.

  9. Pajero Says:

Fuck off Ramelle and Dipskate, he is trying to become the leader of our community or what? I dont want to people think, that everything, that Ramelle says is opinion of all bladers. He is telling the SHIT!!!

  10. k Says:

i’m down with whatever willl gain us more respect and popularity.. dipskate is sick anyways you haters

  11. jOyStArr Says:

hey wutup TO ALL THAT READ THIS.im from SOUTH AFRICA, just wanted to giv my outsider view.i think this whole dipset skate thing is cool but there are some real problems with it. its starting to focus more on a select group of people and not on ROLLERBLADING as a whole.it just seems like its trying to create a culture around sum of the people in rollerblading and not on the what rollerblading actually is.This could be a good thing for sum people, but generally it gives a one sided view of rollerblading.and im not speaking from an emo or racial point of view.its cool that rollerbladings evolving but i remember back wen i started i saw people like Feinberg, Zamora and Latimer ripping it up and thats wat got me amped to skate and got non-rollerbladers to start skating.i only think a few people are going to be inspired to rollerblade wen they see dipset on tv or in magazines.

Im not hating on Dipset, what u guys are doin is cool, but try focus on what is most important About rollerblading.

Focus on the community of rollerblading, sell your stuff, if its gets hype well then carry on, build your company, wen you get tabloid exposure then great, use it!
BUT i think that dipset skate went straight to the tabloids n got a hype about something new “Freestyle rollerblading” and its sorta forced the whole rollerblading community to conform to a created name, sumthing thats seems a bit fake and hasnt got any roots.

I hope it doesnt fold n i wish them all the best with what they doing, but i hope they start to consult with the rollerblading communityand then make rollerblading the main focus. then im sure it wont end up being like a bit of a fashion trend.

    peace!

  12. ........... Says:

why do you feel that rollerblading needs to be more popular? so many skaters seem to have a major chip on their shoulders. fuck fame, fuck emos and thugs alike. you have forgotten what attracted us to this rollerskating thing in the first place

–fun with your homies and prolonged youth–

at least i can honestly say i still love that and that only. look at hoax2 and remember what you do it for…….

  14. darwin (wash hights) Says:

This jump off is a crazy move for skating period. Ramell being the worlds best skater is just someones opinion but no matter what you may think the guy is making moves that most skaters just dream off. both him and Calvin are doing big things and are only going to get bigger. mad props to the both of them, and keep doing the damm thing.

  15. MILLa Mike Says:

Man dipskate is the hotness personally i like it. It will give rollerblading exposure even though i do wear tight pants i still rock b-unique shirts just not xxl’s

    Go dipskate>

  16. ........ Says:

pile of cunts one and all

  17. blkmrkt06 Says:

JUST FUCKING GO SKATE AND STOP ARGUING ABOUT POINTLESS SHIT

  18. Alan Says:

eh, i think ramelle/dipskate crew are just hyped on all the attention. and they should be. just beware of corporate america/puff daddy knocking on your doors guys. they may say they want to promote rollerblading, but really they just want to make a quick buck

  19. ed Says:

yo u guys are all wack, don’t hate cuz there doin big things and ur sittin at home slappin ur balls, even if he’s not the best skater out there, he’s still trying to build the community for the future to keep skating alive & wat do u do hate. Ramelle is a smart dude & he gon take rolling to new heights, so either get wit it or get lost.

  20. dill Says:

haw haw i bet it sucks to be from the ‘FREE’ world……..
be aware of the plan for the new america

  21. Sam G Says:

okay well i guess people are actually gettin smart with their comments mejle basically said it all without being a douchebag

  22. leo Says:

Mejle= Hit the nail on the head
    im ashamed.
ramelle night is the worst example of the new face of rolling.
    worst
    unintelligent, ghetto, bullshit hype.
    no hating
    truth
    ghetto nonscence
and yes tone, i am white, fuck you and your racism.
    and no
i dont wear tight pants, and i do like good hip hop, you know, the type with intelligent non materialistic lyrics.
    ‘i come from the hood’
woop e doo, that means nothing.
if your going to try and be the new face of rollerblading, dont start being bullshit about skateboarding and fucking up the relations that have been beggining to develop within our sports.
ramelle, if you havent noticed with your idol lifeless brain recently, boarders are beginning to respect the sport.
really, i just wish people would concentrate on rolling, the thing that actually matters, instead of concentrating on all the bullshit around it.
style is how you hold your tricks, not the bullshit bling you wear or the music you listen to.

  23. ryan Says:

i have an idea…shut the fuck up and skate!!! no one cares what clothes your wearing…shit you could wear chick pants and i wouldnt care as long your representing rollerblading in a positive way…same goes if you wear pants that are way too big or if you dress “preppy” it doesnt matter what you wear as long as you like what your doing…rollerblading isnt supposed to be material…its about havin fun and bein yourself even if yourself is one who wears baggy or tight pants or wear polos…its not about how you look so just quit the fucking arguing and skate…get good…just do what you do and do it well….if your so concerned about what your wearing then be a fuckin hollister model fuck!!! i’m gonna skate bye

  24. dka Says:

leo - respect for your each word man !!! from the “hip hop” opinion to the rasisum talk and the thoughts about style!!!… you just speak my and my brother `s mind…

hey ramele , if you think that ya come from a ghetto, please visit bulgaria when yo can… even our capital city Sofia is worse than you can ever imagine… we dont have any skatepark , but im sure that we are more keen on than you and your blink blink hip hop crew (the provement is the two websites http://www.aisa-roots.com en http://www.team-disaster.com , the scene and the number of skaters here!) so next time when you say you are from ghetto just go out and try to learn a new trick on a grindbox made from stolen scrab on a roughest ground. i`ll say nothing about that skates cost 3 minimal work prises here….

i liked ya in the begining of this shit, but dipskate gone way too fuck… who the fuck are you to speak infront of ppl what is freestyle rolling or rollerblading (as you like to call it) - people who doin things such as 720 soul 540 topacid 720 misty aren`t talk but you do. If you realy want to explain freestyle rollin go and do trix instead talkin shit!

i like hip hop but the good one - with cool inteligent rhymes , skilled MCs, i wear baggy clothes (but not |B| cuz they cost too much here) so if you think that colour of the skin is important - i am white !

respect for you, your porfiles from 1131 and freestyle rolling were one of my (and my bro) first infulences , but i cant agree with this

  25. archer Says:

this argument is played out. i simply dont give a shit either way anymore

  26. archer Says:

    less talky. more skatey.

  27. ... Says:

yeah man since when does rollerblading need to be saved anyway? is dipset gonna stop the man from taking away my skates?

  28. satan Says:

yeah, chill out fuckers, all this arguing is getting ridiculous.

  29. motherfucker Says:

    bullshyttttttttt
wakkk ass niggaz cant stand them they suck fish is the nicest 1

  30. dka Says:

fucker its 3:45 am here - how can i skate ?? anyway fuck this topic 4 real - more interesting things such as skates cleaning and wheels replacing can be done :D

  31. popcorna4 Says:

Here we go agin I hate the fact this is becoming racial thing yes u can say I’m more of a hip hop roller but some of my favrorite skaters are the whitest white boyz rockin tight pants I still love and apreciate their stylez, don’t have 2 say their namez u kno who they are cuz they are some of the sickest.and again ppl as I said b4 u may not I dentify with the ghetto lifestyle but 4 a lot of us in nyc thatz just what it iz and mel and cal aint fakin it it I know them personaly. And I get the feelin that a lot of the hate is comming from the fact that they have been poppin up a lot in mags and gettin a few interviews here and there ,if u don’t think rolling shoul be represented that way then go out and get your own rolling movment started it can only be better 4 rolling, so stop hatin on felow rollerz we all got skates on our feet. Peaceout…. DIPSKATEALLDAYBITHEZ1000

  32. so wack Says:

big ups to Mejle and dka for their insight. especially dka’s point of view, being that he is from outside the US. if your into rollerblading and live outside the US, i bet us Americans look pretty pathetic arguing about this bullshit. Just skate, if you believe in rollerblading, then it’s gonna go somewhere. Go out, skate hard and be a personal ambassador for rollerblading. Everyone you meet/ sees you with skates on, they are the ones that get real face time with us rollerbladers. Act like a douche bag, and now thats one more person that immediately associates all rollerbladers to being assholes. see what i mean?

  33. skatingiskating Says:

I dont care much about either side, I like some parts about both, so just learn to skate and not worry about any other media bullshit that they use just to make you quarrel, Its a good thing for skating overall and theres no reason anyone should be one sided

  34. eric smarcer Says:

yo emo kids need to shut the fuck up, we do not need to get over being thug, being emo and wearing tight pants is sooooo gay so really you can not say anything about wearing baggy clothes and what not but ya ramelle and them are fags talkin bout he grew up in the ghetto and now hes touring the world, its not like hes making good money or anything so why is he so damn happy and acting like hes rich……and really people on that team honestly arent good

  35. k Says:

first off, dipskate is targeting a select group.. dipset targets the hip hop community just as dipskate is, even more so than rollerbladers. all of you bitch way too fuckin much about this shit. let the guys live, theyre trying tobring more people into the sport and get more money into it. u can give the argument “oh but skatings about the fun, think about hoax 2″ but who gives a fuck. money makes the world go round and if u were pro you would want to make more than a buck for putting out sections and creating new skate parts and what not. thats like how people wanted rollerblading to stay underground. and cmon these arguments about how u dress or what stereotype u are is fucking ridiculous. give it up already.

  36. skateboarder4life Says:

    i like skateboarding…………

  37. Sam G Says:

eric you dont get anything do you?? your not the “smarcer” one in the bunch huh?

  38. Stephane_japan Says:

Eh Guys, I can read here and there, that rollerblading doesn’t need advertising, fame and monney….well, Have you already thought the the prices of our dear skates are not always affordable for all of us ? and why? because Not so many people are buying them actually….
And what about the skateparks? Everybody is always crying because Skateparks are being destroyed, or built in a wrong way…but do you know why your governement or your municipality doesn’t care about building nice skateparks??? BECAUSE THERE ISN’T ENOUGH MONNEY TO GET THERE!!!!!
    SO STOP HATING!
I Don’t think That Dipskate is doing everything the right way but as a pro skater you are supposed to promote your sport and not only show that you have skills (I am sure that there are many “Aragon” out there without sponsors…There is always someone stronger than you….).
If It attracts more people, And MORE MONNEY, then rollerblading HAs a futur, and I am not talking about a Struggling one, where pro teams vanish because there isn’t enough monney. We have to be realistic sometime, skateboarding, snowboarding, They have much more monney than rollerblading, and it helps for the best….

    Peace

  39. Ogre_King Says:

God you guys are a bunch of racist shitheads who hates affirmative action to death. At least Dipskate is trying to promote an alternative sport to the ghettos that hopefully make those kids stay away from the shit that’s going on over there. I mean we all know that in places like Queens or Compton, the neighbourhood idol is the drug dealer, not the humanitarian worker. And we need some attention. Staying underground and isolated for too long is just gonna kill the sport.

  40. ryan Says:

skateboarder4life you must love cock too

  41. neffas Says:

this argueing is worse than politics. theres good points made from both sides tho. i dont think they shuldNT make it a “group/stereotype/movement thing” but to represent it more as just rollerbladers.

  42. s243a Says:

This thread is funny. If you don’t like Dip Skate just buy other brands and buy video’s that have different skaters in them. The market will decide what sells and maybe that is Dip Skate. Just because some people market rollerblading one way does not mean anyone that doesn’t like it has to follow it. The brand is called |B| unique and if you think you need some marketing paradigm to tell you how to be unique then you miss the point.

  43. s243a Says:

    “Tone Tone Says:

Pathetic… dirty racist… Dipskate is a good idea but don’t make it becoming a ethnic movement…”

Aside from the bad English and the insults I think you have a point here. Some people like to have there own culture, be they black people, gay people, skateboarders whatever. Southpark made a joke about this, where they said Queer eye for the straight guy was selling out gay culture to straight people. Some people don’t want to |B| unique they want to be whatever it means to be a rollerblader today. What happens to that culture if someone profoundly changes what it means to rollerblade. It means who they thought they were doesn’t exist anymore because they defined themselves by something external as opposed to what is within. People today often like to play a part instead of be themselves.

  44. josip Says:

as i said earlier, I prefer being a punk rollerblader faggot to being a cool urban “freestyle roller”.

  45. loadhead Says:

Come on guys let’s roll !

  46. leo Says:

    true loadhead true.
ogre king.what are you talking about???
when was i ever racist once?
    you are a freak.

  47. jgo Says:

awrite the dipset thing is kool and all that, but why is evry 1 hating??
its so pointless considering it will boost our sport in one way or another!!!
anyway all i care about is if there is skates to buy and me actually skating them.. at the end of the day aint that all tht matters!!!!!!!!!!!!! seriously get a grip

  48. jgo Says:

oh yeah b4 people start hating on my last comment, im not from a hood or a ghetto, i do wear baggy clothes and im white because all this arguement amounts to is people bitchin about is skin colour, size of clothes and where u come from.

  49. dick Says:

    Im a racist-ass crackahead

  50. floridafinset Says:

god damnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn mad comments took me a year to scroll all the way down to the comment box lol….. now heres my opinion gooo rollerblade!!! stop arguing and rollerblade!!!!! let ramellek t do whateva the fuck he wants to do… does it look like i care about dipskate!! do i support it!!! dont care alls i care about is rollerblading i loves the sport.. you should spend more time rollerblading than arguing about this pointless situation.. so in conclusion rollerblade not that bullshit freestyle rollerblade … im sorry man i cant be refered to as a “freestyle roller” i was brought up to this sport as a rollerblader so im still a fucking rollerblader.now to another subject i still think ramelle knight has no fucking style whatseva like youve seen in all my comments ive posted damn bend your fucking kneess your are fuckin stiff as hell lol la verga!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  51. Scott Wilcoxson Says:

Rollerblading is not about the clothes you wear or the music you listen to. Rollerblading is about freedom of expression. No coaches to tell you what to do. No one in this world cares if you quit or keep rolling. If you go around being a dick to people, acting all hard, everyone knows you are insecure about yourself. You can show up in the sweetest hoodies and bling- bling, shades and smoking spliffs at the spot, but if you cant reprezent NO ONE GIVES A FUCK! You can show up in a T shirt and cut off jeans you got from the salvation army and skate like BAILES and EVERYONE will give you RESPECT! FUCk FASHION! That is not what is important. RESPECT is what yall want, and the ROLLING community is getting that more and more. It is enevitable due to the sheer amplitude of ROLLING going on today. I like what dka from bulgaria said about the ghetto.
There are places in this world that make the worst places in america look like disneyland, and thats comming from someone who’s lived in FORT GREEN. If you dont see 10 year olds on the street corners with machine guns who will kill you cuz your on the wrong side ,YOU AINT HARD! Its cool to have pride in where your from, but you arent cool cuz your from this place or that place. Just be thankful you can Rollerblade and be nice to the little kids and parents who support rolling. Peace

    The Greenlantern
    Rolling since 91 son!

  52. Scott Wilcoxson Says:

    Oh yeah,
Frankie is one of the most underated skaters out there.
I talked to him at Superhick and he was cool as fuck.
He has the sickest style minus the attitude so common now days. Respect.

  53. .Fx Says:

I like the fact that this article about Dipskate is turning into a ” what-to-wear-when-I-go-out-rolling” -topic again. Proves how close minded u lot are.

  54. nunzio from brooklyn Says:

wowwwwww…..u all take the time out of your day to hate on something that’s great….4 real shut up with you’re bullshit dipskate is a great movement for us freestyle rollers and yeah I’m following the trend………big ups 2 my man mel boogie and calvin fir makin this happen DIPSKATE !

    GK all day !

  55. nunzio from brooklyn Says:

wowwwwww…..u all take the time out of your day to hate on something that’s great….4 real shut up with you’re bullshit dipskate is a great movement for us freestyle rollers and yeah I’m following the trend………big ups 2 my man mel boogie and calvin for makin this happen DIPSKATE !

    GK all day !

  56. abel Says:

Rollerblading is rollerblading if it is in the “hood” or is “emo” its all the same shit. We as rollerbladers have way more in common than we dont. So how we all stop talking and start rolling more. But now i am going to contradict myself and say some stuff about dipskate. I think it is good that it gives exposure to rollerblading, but i really dont like the arrogant tone that ramelle and calvin seem to talk about themselves. But i cant hate cos at least they are out there trying to do something for rollerblading.

And for the people that bring out the race card that is the stupidest shit ever. I am black but i hate hip hop mostly and love emo music. It has nothing to do with the color of your skin just your taste…so to…tone tone fuck ya black ass

  57. Gskater Says:

It’s all about the new FonsecaFilms video (THE SHOW) and Paul John’s video (Tax Free) go out and cop those Soon

  58. andreas542 Says:

tight pants and rock music killed rollerblading

i started skating (back in 2002) to look cool and to fit in, emo rollerbladers do not look cool

but dipskate aren’t really helping it either, i cant really see how being from the hood etc has anything to do with rolling

i just dont care anymore, im gonna do my bit at getting the local kids into skating, but i dont give a shit about the industry anymore, haven’t bought a video in over a year

  59. leo Says:

    able i agree.
racecards are for the weak minds.
im not a freestyle roller! im a ROLLERBLADER!
    haha
i would have more respect for this movement if it wasnt laced with arrogance, materialism, and weak use of style, fashion and music to try and potray the sport as some ghetto hood thing.
it is about fun, and its all about commitment, not cash
    you get me?
and before you go on about ‘hating’ or ‘emo’ i am not and am doing neither, haha

  60. s243a Says:

    what is “emo”?

  61. FonsecaFilms Says:

Who cares about Emo and Hip hop, Its all a style like everything else in the world. It all about having fun. If Dipskate wants to pretray that there from the hood let them. I dont know them, they might be from the hood, it’s a style and all the guys on /B/ and Dipskate are good skaters. I glad people in the hood and suburs are seeing this. I can’t wait to i see skating on TV again. FonsecaFilms THE SHOW is coming out soon.

  62. Choy Says:

que pasa? que ahora para patinar hay que vestirse de videoclip? vaya tonteria.

  63. FonsecaFilms Says:

Choy please write in english from know on this is not a third world country and I can’t understand what the f**ck your saying

No se trata de como te vistes se trata de que haces para que te tomen video

BJ Burnheart has no style at all but does dangerous tricks and that’s why he get clips

  64. Reggae reggae sauce Says:

Seriously this is the worst thing to hapen to rollerblading. I paid my dues to ROLLERBLADING long before these DIPSHITS came around thinking they could ruin it with their imature gangsta attitude. Why are other extreme sports more popular, because they dont feed interested kids with an offputting poor attitude. If your that interested in showing some love to ROLLERSHOEING! go to the council skateparks and instead of showing the little kids what you can do take some interest in what they can do!

    ROLLERSHOE ROLLERSHOE ROLLERSHOE

  65. sigh Says:

It’s always hilarious to log on and read the replies to posts about Dipskate. You may be happy with staying underground and unknown, but others want to get more people (particularly more kids) involved. A few points…

    1) The Dipskate team does talk about being from the hood, however they have never said it was worse than anyone else’s hood. Regardless, the areas they come from are not places your happy suburban behinds would want to visit. The point is that it’s a GOOD thing to come from a bad situation to do something positive. Some of you more privileged folks will never really get it. Those of you speaking from other countries, we know you have it worse. Again, I don’t see Dipskate saying they have it worse than anyone else.

    2) People fighting the term “Freestyle Rolling”… When I think of rollerblading, I think of guys with helmets and tight shorts rolling around on the beach… women in bikinis eating ice cream rolling around on the beach… little kids with their dads rolling around their neighborhood… so sweet. What I see you all do, as greenlantern put it above, is all about “freedom of expression”.
In Hip-Hop, there are guys who rap, and guys who can freestyle (which originally means to come off the top of the head with the most creative lyrics possible). “Freestyle” also gives way to healthy competition and a challenge to the next guy to come better.
I think Freestyle Rolling is a great name for rollerblading for the guys who are really being creative and edgy with it. It’s given a whole new breath into something that has been perceived by the public for years to be dead, gone, boring and gay.
Since there is quite a bit of hate for Hip Hop in general on these sites, ironically, some of you bitter skaters sound much like a lot of the older b-boys who are bitter that certain crews or dancers get more shine than people they deem more worthy. Fact is, some people just handle their business better, and the more time you sit around complaining about it, the more time it gives the people you hate on to make more moves forward.

    3) Over the past couple of months, the amount of press that Dipskate has gotten seems to really be more of a cause for jealousy than anything. People say things like “they represent us wrong” “I don’t want them representing me” “why can’t we get other spokespeople?” and so on…
The fact is, New York media (and beyond) are eating these guys up. The entertainment industry is buzzing about them - people are intrigued. Most people had absolutely no idea of what you ALL do - that the culture was so strong. More and more kids in NY are buying rollerblades, which in many cases is keeping them out of trouble.
It’s a beautiful thing, and it’s opening doors for more exposure for all the skaters you *think* should be getting the press instead. Dipskate is fortunate enough to have people around them who actually care about uplifting the sport. You may not like everything Ramelle or Calvin have to say, but who cares. It’s a great look for rollerblading, and perhaps one day in hindsight you’ll see that.

    4) Some of you on these sites are sadly out of touch with your own racism. Sadly, in that you’ll say just about anything sitting behind your keyboards, knowing you’d never walk up to the Black skaters and say things to their faces - yet you really believe you are not racist. White people, you are not entitled, ever, to use the ‘n’ word. Ever.
The fact that the owners of sites like Rollernews and Be-Mag allow posts and comments with racial slurs to stay up is very disturbing in itself.

Feel free to yap away now - but read what I said twice just to make sure you heard me.

Is it really such a big deal. Don’t black people sometimes think of basketball as there sport yet lots of white people play it and don’t act all gangster. Growing up I use to be a Lary Bird fan, and I bet at the same time a lot of black kids were a Majic Johnson fans.

I just don’t care anymore, I just wanna skate. So unless they come up with something for skates! not some “image” I’ll just be in my little corner of the world ignoring them.

“the dead of RB is upon us” What a bunch of crap. So if a group decides to adopt a certain image and style, the rest would simply convert or quit? I say either case its good since we get rid of the wannabes and single out the posers. If you cant handle different forms of expression withing the sport you cherish, I feel really sorry for your closed mind. Keep rolling, keep doing what you love, stay real along with your crew… theres plenty of ground for all sorts of styles. variety, individuality and change is good.
I’ve been a tight pants punk/blader since a kid and I don’t mind saying DIPSKATE FREESTYLE ROLLING 4 LIFE
