  19. Roussel Says:

tiag khris probably doesnt even know what ground control frames are or who jon julio is.

  20. Tea Says:

don’t forget that we are dependant with fitness rolling ( thats why you can think it was “gay” ( fuck this expression, it reminds juvenil skateboarders hate ) ) in the mass media. it will be hard to kick this dependance and to show what we really are. we must be patient.
the question is : do you think that it deserves rolling ??
i dont think so. the mass doesnt have our vision and didnt see pejorative things with this show. why this shame with fitness ? its our fondation unless you dont roll on wheels ( do you want some grind shoes?! ).
the only thing we can be fed up with, is that our world recognition is too slow. but we dont roll for this, i hope.

  21. titoo Says:

  23. lulu Says:

il y avait aussi ilia koutkouchov

  24. pedro the necro Says:

yea thaig chris isnt world champion anymore surely
that was alright, good for raising money and that, and it got some rolling on tv, the guys on the ramp behind the shitty dancers was alright.

  25. Aet Says:

  26. ShAdY Says:

    BIMMM, merci AET

  33. so wack Says:

unless the vert skaters get more ‘in-line’ (pun totally intended!) with the street skaters that we all know and love, the gap between skaters like chris farmer & taig khris will just keep getting wider and harder to cross in the future. We all know that the video in this post doesn’t represent what we sweat, bleed, and know as rolling, but the rest of the world doesn’t see what we are doing. Vert skating seems to be in the public eye more than street (which isn’t that much more exposure, but its better than what we currently get on mainstream media) and unless things change for both sides, street skating, rollerblading, freestyle rolling or whatever you wanna call it will stay in the shadows.

Personally, I think vert skaters like taig, jaren grob, and shane yost are done. Let them do commercials for L’Oreal or whatever, thats fine. Vert skaters like the Yasutokos and Thumper Nagasako have big shoes to fill. Start bridging the gap between the skating, style, and culture of vert to the street world via magazines like One and videos. One day this thing call rollerblading is going to get big again, whether you like it or not. Why not let the world see us as a cohesive and unified group, rather than a haphazard crew of misfits with a cultural division.

    Just a thought.

  34. mariachi82 Says:

    Amen so wack
Patience to all, our sport is on the same downfall that skateboarding, bmx and surfing went trough after their respective initial booms. Although this is extremely gay for our standars, in the public eye it draws attention to our obscure sport in some way. Long are gone the days of rollerblading all over the Tv.. this is a rare rare chance to show at least some vert (mind the gay silver outfits)

  35. prodigy Says:

Lets start this off by saying that some of you people that post comments on Rollernews suck balls and you don’t know your head from your ass.

    Here’s some history for everyone:
In 1979, Scott and Brennan Olson invent the inline skates of today (better boots, polyurethane wheels, etc.), founding Rollerblade, Inc. in 1983.

We started out with metal skates and metal wheels. Then improved to rollerskates and polyurethane wheels. Then Rollerblade Inc. created recreational inline skates. KEY WORD - Rec Skates. Then it evolved to Aggressive Skates. Our whole foundation is based on Rec. Skates. If you don’t like our history then go F yourself.

Taig Khris as well as many other Vert Skaters are doing big things for our sport. We need more new people learning to skate. Its our job to expose it and teach it. Taig is a ledgend among many. Because you are a bas ass street skater doesn’t mean shit. Taig is not selling out by being with Airwalk. If you didn’t know Airwalk makes inline skates.

If you love rolling, then support our sport. It will take everyone’s support to bring it back into the lime light / mainstream. For the most companies, Rec Skates is what funds the manufacturers to create Aggressive Skates.

Learn your history before you start talking shit.

  36. so wack Says:

Thanks for the input prodigy, even if it was angry and somewhat reactive.

You say that people like Taig Khris along with other vert skaters are doing big things for our sport. Please, show me what and where these ‘things’ are happening (not including the Yasutokos, they got the High Rollaz deal going on) . Not to downplay his legacy in vert rollerblading, but come on! Lets draw a line in the sand and be realistic here.

Brian Shima/Rat-tail, the B Unique people, and even those crazy SOL Canadians are pushing the envelope for rollerblading. You say that we need more people teaching others how to rollerblade. I couldn’t agree with you more on that point. But how is teaching a French popstar how to dance around in rec blades helping out? Its gimicky; it’s just a shtick. Tell me that a 10-13 year old kid watching this horseshit on television is going to make him ask his mom to buy him some Razors with a straight face. It ain’t happening prodigy.

OK, let’s come full circle here, with my point being that this little video clip is crap, kinda like those RB commercials that were on the Fade Nation blog. I believe that ultimately, this kind of media circus frenzied television programming does NOT entice the youth to start rollerblading. Also, that vert skating is starting to become worlds apart from street skating; which is a topic of debate in itself.

Is Taig Khris an asshole for doing this? Not really; but don’t say that because he was in the limelight a few years ago and that this video so happens to include rollerblades that it is helping recruit new kids.

If you still feel cross about this, please, visit my myspace page that I hyper linked as my RN user name to discuss further (I have already abused this article enough). Because unlike other people on this site, I’m not too timid to show the world my face coupled with my opinions. thank you and goodnight.

  37. prodigy Says:

So Wack, you are right in many ways. Their is so much to debate on this topic, but I must say that what we do as rollerbladers, much like haffey, stockwell, aargon, etc. they are pushing the limits. Its insane half the shit skaters are doing. Vert skating is still crazy in my eyes, but steet skating is even crazier. We do need our sport back into the media, but at the same time we need to support rec and aggressive skating. For those who rec skate, hopefully improve and transfer over to aggressive skates. I love that Jon and Brian created NIMH Skates. Both of them are great guys and amazing skaters. We need more skater opperated companies and not corporate ran bullshit people. We are the poster childs and we know what works and what doesn’t work. Like I said before, this can be a long debate. I love rollerblading and I will die with my skates in my casket. Peace.
