World Rolling Series: Press Release

world rolling series

With 11 pro contest in 7 countries and 3 continents the World Rolling Series was a great success in 2009 and received a huge response everywhere it went. Going forward in 2010, the WRS now includes all events, big and small and from all countries, allowing all riders to earn points towards the world ranking list (WRL) at any future contest.

The standing of a rider in the WRL will play a significant role for the qualification at pro contests and the finals in the future. WRS contests are assigned stars by which the amount of points is multiplied with. For example a WRS Pro contest has a 5-star rating, a local contest might only have 1-star. So the winner of a 5-star contest will earn 5 x 1,000 = 5,000 points, the winner of a 1-star contest 1 x 1,000 = 1,000 points.

The WRS website has just been updated with the 2010 Calendar (new events are still being added daily) and the updated World Ranking List!

This is not a skate edit as such, Brazil took care of that one for you all just more of a video diary of the happenings over the weekend.

So i made a last minute dash over to Las Vegas for the World Rolling Series Final to see some friends and have some meetings.

Vegas is one of the craziest cities i have visited. Room service, gambling, alcohol, skating and tigers?

Brian Aragon took the World Champ title after a non stop season competing and winning around the globe.

Thanks to everyone who made the trip a great one. Sven, Andy, Dick, Chaz, Kato, Brazil, Kola, Stew, Mike, Brian, Cirque du Soleil guys, everyone.

WRS: 2009 World Finals (Las Vegas, USA) by Jason Reyna

World class riders gathered in Las Vegas on Halloween weekend and battled for the World Finals title, last stop of the WRS 2009 Pro Tour.

A lot of pressure was on Aragon at this final event in Vegas because two riders could have potentially taken his 1st place on the WRL: Chris Haffey and Julien Cudot.
After a brilliant season on the Pro Tour in which he qualified for the Pro Finals, amateur Julien Cudot didn’t manage to pass the first round. Chris Haffey, although succeeding at qualifying for the final round, took a hard fall on a disaster true fish and had to retire from the competition.

Despite Wellsmore’s (2nd) impressive tricks, Broskow’s (3rd) creativity and style, Sizemore’s (4th) aggressive disasters and Stockwell’s (5th) fast lines, Brian Aragon did not loose his focus and took 1st place by landing stylish hammers and utilizing the whole course including every new obstacle built especially for the Las Vegas Finals.
He was then crowned 2009 World Champion (WRL#1) in front of the Vegas crowd, alongside Chris Haffey (WRL#2) and David Sizemore (WRL#3).

WRS World Finals Results:

1. Brian Aragon [USA]
2. CJ Wellsmore [Australia]
3. Alex Broskow [USA]
4. David Sizemore [USA]
5. Jeff Stockwell [USA]
6. Jon Bolino [USA]
7. Brian Shima [USA]
8. Roman Abrate [France]
9. Dominik Wagner [Germany]
10. Stephane Alfano [France]
11. Chris Haffey [USA] (ret’d)

Thanks Kato.
