[Framed] Broadcast, featuring Erik Bill

Wednesday, October 26th, 2011

About [Framed]: We decided to create a show. A free, weekly broadcast that captivates as well as educates.

Every week we will bring different photographic talents to you that will share a piece of their wisdom, their work, their process, and their art.

In this episode: extreme sports!

erik bill

We brought back one photographer from each of our challenge episodes to bring you the Season 2 Finale Challenge! First, there’s beauty, commercial and lifestyle photographer, John Galfano from Seattle. Next, the experimental makeup artist and photographer, Kel-Z from Salt Lake City. And finally, the beauty, portrait and boudoir photographer, Craig Lamere, from Blackfoot.

Three different photographers, with three different strengths, bringing three different styles to the table. Each of them didn’t know what to expect with this surprise photoshoot but were most definitely up for the challenge.

Voting

Now here’s how it works. The votes will come partly from you, the viewers, partly from an artist guest judge, and partly from an Extreme Sports expert as well.

So do your part! Submit your vote for your favorite photographer and images by clicking on the “Vote Favorite” button. Votes will close Nov. 7th!

Escondido Skatepark may close due to budget cuts

Wednesday, April 6th, 2011

Escondido Skatepark

Escondido, California. Escondido’s recreation department may be forced to close its popular skate park to help the city balance its budget.

Recreation director Robin Bettin said Monday her office has to cut over $860,000 from its books, and the skate park has a shortfall of around $100,000. Skaters would have to pay double the price, and if that doesn’t happen, the park would have to close.

“If we can’t get enough kids to come at the price we have to charge and have full cost-recovery,” Bettin said, “we should close it.”

Skaters and bikers hope the doomsday scenario doesn’t take place.

“If you want to see kids skating in front of your office buildings or shredding where security guards don’t want us to shred, I guess shut it down,” explained skater Zig Short.

“I think it’s the dumbest idea ever,” said fellow skater Ian Fujimoto, “I’d rather have them charge us more to come here than close it down.”

Bettin said there are other cuts on the table, including possibly closing a pool and raising fees for several programs around the city.

A clearer budget picture should be presented to the city council in late April.

NYC Blading Scene Featured on Dutch TV

Sunday, April 3rd, 2011

3 op Reis

3 op Reis (translated ‘Channel 3 Travels’) is a series created by a team of passionate travelers, produced by Dutch national broadcaster BNN.

They’ve just successfully finished three seasons of 27 episodes each, with good reviews and ratings (around 700.000 — 800.000 viewers on a weekly basis).

3 op Reis is a mixture of the experiences and adventures of the presenters, beautiful shots of the destinations, involvement with the local people and practical information about the destination. It is the leading (and at the moment the only) travel program at Dutch television. – Leslie Borger.

September 11th 2010 on a Saturday afternoon a film crew from the Netherlandic show, 3 op Reis, filmed local NYC skaters at the Wall Street area in Manhattan, NY for their Dutch worldwide travel show.

The skaters were to be featured in their NYC segment. This video is an edited version of the show just showcasing their coverage of the New York City rollerblading scene. The film crew was inspired to showcase our scene by a IRollNY article written by Aulistar Mark.

1998 Bercy (Paris, FR) Indoor Street Vert Contest

There was a time when rollerblading was so popular in France that some events were broadcast live on prime-time television.

Many young skaters have not had the chance to know this wonderful time. But fortunately for them, some had the foresight to record this event, and thanks to the technology of the 21st century, I am honored to share with you this small part of our history, because it is important to know from where you come from. Enjoy.
