This is my final submission for the Olympus Your Story Challenge. I hope you enjoy this, we put our entire lives into it. Extended (full) version up later this evening.
Hey, Kevin, tell us about yourself.
Hello there, my name is Kevin Dowling and I like to consider myself a good guy.
I am a freelance photographer in Atlanta Georgia, I have a 3 year old son named Kairo, a beautiful girlfriend and I have been shredding for 16 years.
First off, what made you want to do this video?
I saw the contest a few months back and my original plan was to do a photo documentary on organic/local food culture in Georgia. I forgot about the contest and randomly stumbled upon it a few days before the deadline. That same morning one of my friends (who was in vg4 and now works for Public Television) posted the Taig drop in on his Facebook.
Below the post I read a response from a 35 year old “christian surfer” that read something like this “F$%* fruitbooting! That S&*%is gay as f$#% and for p*&&%@$. If you want to see some non-p%#$%@ shit than check out Danny Way on the great wall.”
I got very frustrated after reading this and decided to forget vegetables. I am going to make a documentary that shows exactly how incredible our culture has become. I posted the video that afternoon and here we are.
Can you give us any hints on Riders?
As always, I will be working with Robert Guerrero. Being a professional is all about your influence over young adults. I feel that Robert makes wise decisions and is a great role model. I have been speaking with Robert about who else we should bring and believe that we have made our final decisions on who will be coming if I make the top 6.
I do not want to name anyone else right now but I have been in contact with some of the worlds best and brightest. […]
Kevin Dowling is in the top 20 of the Olympus Contest
Here is the mail he received from Olympus:
Congratulations! The community has spoken and you have been named one of the 20 semifinalists in the Olympus PEN your story challenge.
This week, it would be great if you could send me your legal name, email address, phone number, and mailing address. If you are chosen as one of the six finalists, we will use this information to contact you and give you paperwork to fill out so we can send you the PEN E-PL1 and $5,000.00 prize. The six finalists will be announced on June 23. We will not use your contact information for anything else.
Votes via “likes” of your videos still count for the next phase of the contest, so please continue to encourage your friends to like your video.

Olympus announced the “PEN Your Story Challenge” that asks contestants, “What you would do if you had the amazing new Olympus PEN E-PL1 portable camera featuring professional digital single lens reflex (DSLR) image quality, point-and-shoot simplicity and high-definition (HD) video, along with $5,000 to bring your creative vision to life?”
Contestants can submit a video proposal of their “vision”, which is anything that you could produce with the Olympus PEN E-PL1 and a $5,000 budget. For example, if your dream is to direct a short film with HD video, produce a fashion spread of pro-quality still images, or chronicle an adventure or to create an amazing photomontage.
20 semi-finalists will be selected by community voting and then narrowed down to 6 by a panel of judges from Olympus and the YouTube community. The 6 finalists will receive the Olympus PEN E-PL1 and $5,000 to bring their proposals to life. One Grand Prize winner will be selected from those 6 and will receive an all-expense-paid trip for two to New York City to attend the Olympus-sponsored US Open National Championships where the winner’s work will be displayed on the giant video board at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center before an audience of thousands.
