So some of you might have wondered why the blog has been so dead and some of you might have already heard the news but today I am announcing the end of Franco Shade/FRSH. Although I wish this was some sort of sick joke it isn’t and I can assure you all that we tried our best to not have this happen.
I don’t want to only blame the economy as our downfall because there are other brands that are surviving in the same climate, along the way we made some poor choices which really hurt us. At this time I would rather not name those choices because I think it honestly doesn’t matter anymore. We hoped to come out with our Fall 09 line which finally had denim and what we thought was our best collection to date, unfortunately we couldn’t even afford to that and are going to be losing a lot of deposits we had placed on all those items. We have built quite a following on this site thanks to all of our loyal readers and daily visitors.
I say this now with no promise of financial reward from any of you, I really appreciate you all. You hear people say without our fans and customers we are nothing or whatever corny cliche there is, but that is the truth here. I started this company 7 years ago and to think it could have lasted even this long is laughable.
I really can’t say how much I appreciate everyone who was involved, I can’t even begin to name everyone but you see them on the blog on a daily basis you know who I am talking about. Our staff, like most staffs in the street wear industry worked for pennies. Thats one thing that most people don’t know is when you are seeing peoples blogs and they’re poppin’ bottles the truth is most of them all chipped in with 20 other people to buy that bottle and its a industry wide practice to just be broke and act rich.
I will be starting a new personal website where I will still post videos and information about my friends brands and anything related, also I will be documenting my travels and transitions into the next chapter in my life. I will also keep you updated with all of the FRSH crew and what they are up to. I will post that site on twitter so if you want to know it, just follow me @teamfrsh if you aren’t already and I’ll get you guys that link.
Again thanks so much for your support and I am sorry we couldn’t stretch it out a bit longer for you but sometimes you just gotta move on.

Video episode number 47 people! Thanks to the camera work of Quinn Feldman we managed to capture a little look behind the scenes at Franco Shade in Santa Ana.
We have all witnessed the evolution of Franco Shade and the Ghost and Knives logo over the past several years. Both the Franco Shade name and the logo have generated a lot of interest in this time. Franco Shade and the Ghost have both become a part of the fabric of streetwear culture in Orange County and beyond.
Now in 2009 Franco Shade and the iconic Ghost and Knives logo will split into two separate companies. Franco Shade will continue on with Joe Navran at the helm and the whole Franco Team intact: Tui, Thomas, Jerm and crew.
Arlo Eisenberg will direct a brand new spin-off company featuring the Ghost and Knives logo, appropriately named GOST (pronounced “ghostâ€).
Franco Shade will begin a new chapter with its new Hammer icon and will continue to provide the streetwear community with its signature brand of stylish, cutting edge clothing and its often offbeat sense of humor.
GOST will continue the legacy of the Ghost and Knives logo and will carry on the artwork and unique vision of creative director Arlo Eisenberg.
2009 promises to be an exciting year for fans of Franco Shade with a lot more to love! Follow the new direction of both brands at francoshade.com and gostbrand.com.
As we are all well aware now, the Nobody Cares contest has come and gone with the winners being announced. What may not be known to some of you is that those three winners are set to join one person who has been a part of the brand since day one.
When I first met Rachard it was for a new video I was working on at the time called F.O.R. 2. A photographer named Zach Podell told us about this guy who he felt was the next big thing in the sport. I heard some rumblings here and there and although Rawlinson to this day swears he found Rachard, the truth is Zach is the one who introduced him to me. Rachard says that although Zack had some form of neck cancer, hooked up with many porn stars, and at one point pulled an AK-47 on him for not wanting to skate he was a “pretty cool dude.†[...]
When the contest first started I wondered if we would actually get any good submissions, if people even cared to be part of a new video project I was doing. It has been so long since I’ve done something I wondered if I was even relevant enough to expect people to take this whole thing seriously. In the beginning we had some early submissions, some good but not really great. It was really crazy though that basically everyone who submitted was so much more advanced than the guys I would have featured in my videos just a few short years ago.
Rollerbladers have come a long way. Skateboarding is the norm these days, we are engulfed in an industry that is so oversaturated with people who want to latch onto skateboarding culture so bad, that they will even try and act like they themselves are skateboarders when the truth is they could care less about it. I guess that’s where I can see we truly are different. We don’t have the need to make a deck, or have a skate team just so that we can get into skate accounts. If people like our stuff then great, and if they realize our background and history began in rollerblading and they want to shun us because of it, then so be it.
The first guy who really blew us away was Jeremy, at that point I only planned on having one winner, and for a few weeks we were sure it would be him. He is from LA, so obviously we’re a little biased to guys from So Cal, but his home had nothing to do with his abilities and style. I am excited to have him become part of our team, and am sure he is going to be a great addition to the “FRSH†family.
The results are in! After pouring through countless youtube submissions we are proud to announce that instead of ONE winner there will be THREE!
The winners will be announced one at a time over the next three days.
The winners will join Rachard Johnson on the Franco Shade Team and will be featured in the highly anticipated new (skate related) video project from Joe Navran titled, “Nobody Cares.â€
Thanks go out to everyone who entered. We were constantly amazed at the level of skating that is out there!
Here is the FRSH (nobody cares) edit of B-nick. I won’t go through lot of lines to describe the boy, fact is that you can learn more about him on the “montage” section. We filmed this edit in two days between the Rennes rain, and added few tricks you would have seen in other edits. We really made this edit for the fun of it, the video contest was a great idea, although i think you need to see skaters in action to really dig it…
Anyway the dude is currently in california with our great colleague Freddywhite, i guess he’s buying some cap or waxing some rails by now. Don’t be jealous, he ain’t eatin no great food there ! hope you still like hiphop. Enjoy !
When we heard about Franco Shade hosting an edit submission contest we took it as our personal mission to submit the illest, and most proper edits possible.
I originally took on Dan Barnes as my subject, then after lots of successful shooting sessions, I decided to add on Steve Bruning. Both sections are fused together into one seamless edit, but for the contest I split these two sections up to meet the 90 second requirement.
