Supergirl Jam 2009 (Venice Beach, CA): Edit
Supergirl Jam took place on Venice Beach, CA, bringing out the best female athletes in the disciplines of inline, snowboard, skateboard, and surf. Inline was a best trick contest, judged solely on individual tricks, in a 15 minute jam session. You could fall the entire time and have one great trick that could win. All I have to say about this weekend is that the rollerblade girls represent SUPER FUCKING DUPER HARD for the sport and looked so good and professional versus any other sport out there. We went so hard, fell terrible, landed badass shit… but still did it looking feminine. That aspect is important to maintain, especially when able to showcase at an event like this. We also looked THE HOTTEST at the afterparty on the rooftop ;)

I’m glad everyone has left out the sexist comments. I’m also incredibly glad to see this edit after so many years without virtually no great female rollerbladers. Such a nice change, really shows that rollerblading has progressed and has gotten a better image.
Never heard of Aarin Gates but she skated really well. As did Chynna who perhaps did the hardest trick? To all girls – Thank you! Thank you for being a part of rollerblading. It usually adds a little more intelligence…

amazing event, can’t believe how good girls are at skating… I had seen matina svobodova skate before had she really impressed me but now there are plenty of martinas : that alley oop top soul was the shit for real, so stylish. I get royally annoyed when people are so degrading and disrespectful of the women. That’s somebody’s daughter or sister for fuck sake.
I’m so glad I’m not a girl roller like. Would really get to me if someone was like “nice rack” instead of “nice topsoul”. we need more events that entice women to skate. it’s nice to see such a strong representation of talent at this event. it’s just too bad that rollerblading gets the short end of the stick when it comes to cash prizes; all the other sports got at least twice as much, it seems. that’s messed up.

Firstly, any edit that starts with Arlo speaking can do no right in my eyes.
Secondly, the standard of skating was dire and the winning trick was farside and she didn’t even get close to the end of the rail.
Finally, cut out the political correct nonsense on here. The standard of girls skating is still ridiculously low and it’s not really defendable. If that was a bunch of young guys, who haven’t been skating long, doing that shit, you’d be slating them.
In conclusion, a terrible edit.

@ Gunderson your comment makes little sense. A case in point would be womens pro basketball players. The best of them couldn’t hold a candle to the lowest of NBA players. I think there is little doubt many of them would compete and/or outplay non-professional male basketball players
Now as for these girls Cynna skates rails much better then alot of male skaters just ask her homies in Michigan. Fallon always competes at the highest level with other males. Lets not forget Coco who is 17 or 18 is an all around skater just ask the guys at Bittercold (2008) rails, sky’s over box’s (check Cocos Back Flip and Vert skills). Fabiola?? you’d have to be blind not to recognize her talents (double back flip on the Vert!!) and skills on street that many males cannot compete with. These girls are no Aragon, Haffey, Broskow etc. but you ask any of those guys and they would back up what I stated.

Yes its good to see more girls in the sport, I hope they stay. I’m surprised Chynna Weierstall didn’t get atleast 3rd, she has good style. She turns heads too, i dunno if its her height or the pink top per se but she’s got the pro image if she can continue to hit the tricks. I just hope a lot of these girl rollerbladers keep the ‘cute’ look for as long as possible. Not that Fabiola and her benching abilities aren’t respected but its always neat when the girls are cute instead of buff.

MikeT, rollerblading is one of the few sports (ok, to please you lot on here, ‘art forms’) that doesn’t give a significant advantage to men. There have been numerous incredibly short male skaters and certainly many who aren’t exactly physiologically blessed, yet they were still able to do much more than most girl skaters.
It’s not like it’s even because girls haven’t been around for long, Dawn Everett started skating when Noah was creating a boat for him and his animals and there’s a few girls in Hoax 2 as well. Throughout the years numerous women have came and left the sport, it’s not like these girls are breaking new ground.
I appreciate that many on here are teenagers who have some warped fantasy that by somehow praising these girls they may one day be blessed by karma and entitled to slip them a length. However, cut away the political correct nonsense and the hormone fuelled crap and you’re still left with a poor edit and a very low standard of skating, especially for a prize money competition.

My bad. I wasn’t referring to size/height. I was using the example that (most) pro women in any sport are not as good as their male counterparts. Many of the girls I mention can skate as well or better then many male skaters.
All in all this type of exposure is good for all rollers.

Thanks for your insightful comments, here are a couple of things to chew over in response.
I’d say that the gap between the top girls and guys in the sport is still as great as it was back in Dawn Everett’s day, even if it has narrowed (which i’d refute) it’s still shockingly large and basically amounts to a lack of courage and/or abilty on behalf of female skaters. I’m surprised you couldn’t see where i was coming from on that point.
Secondly, i’m not a fucking jerkoff, i’m a fucking wanker.
Thirdly, i would never watch a basketball match. Although i’m happy to be considered Roller News’ very own version of Alan Hansen (minus the Scottish accent, shit scar and allegiances to Liverpool).
Laatly, the reason the edit riles me is that it’s shit and yet so many people are keen to shower it in praise simply for the fact that it’s girls doing the tricks. The standard of skating is poor and to top it all off, it even had Arlo speaking at the start (he’s a seperate argument for another time). I’m amazed that you couldn’t ascertain this from my earlier posts.

It’s weird that no girls are commenting on this, alot of you guys are giving really nice and honest comments on the skating which is awesome. However, as a female some of you guys are saying quite negitive comments and really no wonder there is not enough female skaters in our sport. Some comments make girls feel uncomfortable especially younger ones who are easily influenced. So i just think you guys should keep that in mind. These girls are my idols and i think they are really setting a standard for the newer generation of girl bladers and hopefully one day we can narrow the gap :) Props to all the girls in the supergirl jam contest! :D
