Street Artist Urethane

Adam Johnson sent me some infos about Street Artist Urethane.

Here is an interview done by Erolling:
What is Street Artist?
Street Artist is a urethane company I have been working on with Shane Coburn and Mike Johnson as well as the rest of the team and designers like Matty Pro and Jeromy Morris. While it is a rollerblade company we will be releasing limited runs of artist series merchandise, hats, hoodies, pocket art, and the like, as well as networking with artists throughout different mediums like music and the conventional arts.
How did you come up with the name?
On the last tour filming for ICONs Mike Johnson and I were trying to figure out a name that had a good meaning, could break down into an acronym (STAR), and wouldn’t pidgeon hole ourselves into a single facet of rollerblading.
Who is all involved?
Mike Johnson, Don Bambrick, Sean Kelso, Billy O’Neill, B-Free, MattyPro, Jeromy Morris, and a slew of other talented artists whom are working on their own artist series projects right now.

How long have you been working on Street Artist?
Since this past August of 2007
Who is on the team?
Don Bambrick, Billy O’Neill are both pro, Mike Johnson, Sean Kelso will be joining us in January, and B-free from Austin, TX is our first flow rider.
What made you want to start a new wheel company?
I want to grow Straight Jacket Distribution the same way Rat Tail and Them Goods are. This way we have a strong core of skater run distribution companies which will help and insure that no matter how underground skating gets there will always be people looking out for its’ future.
How did the testing process go?
Great, we let our sample wheels cure just as we would the production wheels and I personally was able to skate them through 5+ tours filming the Vibralux Team DVD. When you can chase those pros around and not have your wheels core/chunk for 5 months you have a pretty good wheel.

What should we expect in the near future?
Great looking hats, hoodies, and t-shirts that go above and beyond a logo. Our first run of shirts were all black and just a simple variation of our corporate “Star” logo to help brand the company. It is an integral part of creating any company, brand recognition. I just don’t want kids thinking we painted ourselves into a corner and that the art direction for this company is graffiti, each line will represent a differing style of art that will be moderately progressive, at least as far as rollerblade design is concerned.
Any additional information you’d like to give us?
Give the wheels a try, can’t hurt since we are offering the first sets at a discounted rate. Support us if you can and be on the lookout for the street artist site coming soon (conflicting sponsor problems) and let us know if you have any feedback.
What do you offer that no one else does?
Everyone has wheels, and Eulogy has arguably the best wheels, but we will be offering fresh looks with the release of every new line, and our art concept will never go stale. The fashion will be top notch too.

Ok so they reckon eulogy wheels are better than their wheels, but the only point of street artists is the cool graphics? They look pretty boring and poor to me, they can say they are based on art and graffiti and art but the wheel are not artistic or fresh at all. I am riding those new UC and they last forever and look better than those. Maybe next season.
Cool team by the way.
November 18th, 2008 at 12:57 pm
fresh concept!!!love it!!
rollerbladers and graff…. both are street artists!!!
November 18th, 2008 at 1:24 pm
it’s good to some fresh news ‘cos it’s getting more and more boring here.
November 18th, 2008 at 1:41 pm
the paint always comes off in a week or two, so why bother?
EULOGY = best wheel. They are so good that other companies say they are the best.
November 18th, 2008 at 2:24 pm
BANKSY
November 18th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
“Eulogy has arguably the best wheels”. No It hasn´t !!!
UC pro wheels look better and sure ride better than this.
ST.AR < EULOGY < new UC pro wheels. If you think different than this buy a set of eulogy and a set of UC and test both, I´m sure you´ll stick to UCs forever.
I´ll wait for the fashion items, they sure will look great… but wheels…hmmm…. NOPE, thanks.
November 18th, 2008 at 3:00 pm
Still sticking with my eulogys, i dont care! good luck with the biz though AJ!
November 18th, 2008 at 3:04 pm
xploiting graffiti i bet they be mad if somone showd a rollerskater on rollerskates spray painted on a wall grinding down a rail,, this company is xploiting the artist aswell i dont see credit for them you guys dont no shit about graffiti so why not keep that out ur desgins makes u look like posers trying to be down and get some street credit,. chumps not to mention yal would even no how to piece or the basics of bombing yah bunch of skate toys cuz tahts whast your wheels are toys
November 18th, 2008 at 3:07 pm
I didnt mean to me a hater hehhe, just defending my point of view for wich wheels are better now : )
But I always think it´s great to see new skater-owned companyes being created… especially with such a great crew involved.
Keep the hard work, AJ… nice iniciative (again!) : )
November 18th, 2008 at 3:14 pm
“i didn´t mean to BE a hater ….” dammmm…
November 18th, 2008 at 3:36 pm
bFREE!
November 18th, 2008 at 4:58 pm
Jp,
did you let your eulogys sit around for a few months? Keep them in a cool, dark place for about five months and then ride them. Powell-Parelta (the company that pours eulogy) lets all their skateboard wheels “rest” for four months before putting the graphics on them. Eulogy go from mold to paint in less than a week. Let them rest, ask any eulogy rider…. the last ones that they use from the batch they were sent are always the best.
November 18th, 2008 at 5:36 pm
Seriously, I couldn’t give a fuck whats on my wheels. the graphics come off with in a few weeks of skating. its only good for knowing the brand of wheel.
As for this brand i wouldn’t mind tryin em. tho i kinda agree with “real street artist don’t write graffiti” comment.
November 18th, 2008 at 5:37 pm
Looks sick…. I’m sure these guys don’t want to sell you some Bullshit
hate all you want kids!!!! Did you see the names that are behind this.
yeah nuff Said!!!
your hating now!! but if they wanted you to ride for them.. you’d be on there Dick
To many Haters on Here…. they songs about you these days thats why you think your cool!!!! but really you HATE YOURSELF!

That is why I know our wheels will be and are great. We let our wheels cure for 5 months before even putting them out for the public to purchase.
Our wheels are great. I am not going to go around saying they are better then Eulogy because I am not 100% on that, that is up to the customer to decide.
Try them out, they are the least expensive wheels on the market. To the graf kid, until you know someone or the people behind a project, you should try and contain yourself from spewing ignorance and hate.
To all the people who hate that I admit Eulogy to have great wheels, you need to understand props where props are due. Last thing we need is a new company running around spreading lies and making the porridge thin. Just wait, we will be serving some humble pie and milk once we get lifted.
November 18th, 2008 at 6:00 pm
this is a great idea, but the brand name is probably the worst i’ve seen in rollerblading yet. this is the most cliche approach to a name possible. i can only see this as a company jumping on the bandwagon of the recent street culture/streetwear explosion. especially for a new yorker to see this, it translates to, “oh there we go again with the suburb kids trying to hop on the street art culture….” i support new ideas in rolling all the way but the name is just not cutting it.
November 18th, 2008 at 6:24 pm
yo half the people on that team are sick ill support it as soon as they are released sick idea
November 18th, 2008 at 6:56 pm
BFREE on the coming up photo hahaha
November 18th, 2008 at 8:41 pm
I THINK YOU GUYS MEAN REAL GRAFFITI WRITERS DONT DO “STREET ART”. fuck that banksy bullshit. anyways, looks like DEMER or someone biting him helped out on the can designs haha. there could be potential with this hopefully it doesn’t go the cornball route.
November 18th, 2008 at 8:52 pm
AJ, you guys let the wheels rest with light or without ? I know urethane changes with the light also…
Just wondering what happens in the cure process…
November 18th, 2008 at 8:56 pm
who’s doing your pour AJ? no one called me up… Looks like a Mindgame core? Xero or Asia?
November 18th, 2008 at 9:07 pm
Respect to AJ, but when I buy wheels I don’t care who pay the brands to be on their teams. The brand name, the logo and the wheels are ugly as hell.
M1, heat, eulogy,uc,bhc,4×4,… we don’t need more brands, just my thoughts.
What I will buy for sure is the DVD.
No hate, peace.
November 18th, 2008 at 9:47 pm
Isaac
Can you do a tutorial on what makes a great wheel? The core, the urethane, ‘dual pour’.
I liked your life plus profile.
November 18th, 2008 at 11:09 pm
I’m in the middle of working on one right now with Inline Warehouse. need to do the voice over and should be good. trying to get Robert Lievanos to do it since I have a rather annoying voice if you recall from the first one. also having my buddy compose the back ground music… Shot in High Def, by Juan Mosqueda, music composed by Jonathan Still 2007 Best New Wave Artist, and NOT having to hear me talk over it… priceless…
If you have any individual questions or comments you can always get me at isaac@eulogywheels.com
“Everyone has wheels, and Eulogy has arguably the best wheels, but we will be offering fresh looks with the release of every new line, and our art concept will never go stale. The fashion will be top notch too.”
our art concept is stale? what’s up with that AJ? hahaha j/k

How the fuck could you even talk about writing if you don’t write, your name says it all.
i hate kids like you
November 19th, 2008 at 12:22 am
so billy and sean left undercover?
these wills better be better then
November 19th, 2008 at 1:50 am
i agree that this is very lame concept.
you are all talented people , but you say that you based your name on the concept of wanting it to be called star? then just fuckin call it star .
street artist sounds like the kinda rollerblade shit that will be sold at gas stations once mainstream fools get a hold of it.
oh and i must admit that when i first say the LOGO i thought it was the state of texas .
i really hate to say it but thsi concept needs to be abandonded sooooon!! back to the drawing boards. you cant just get some ill skaters to gether and make a company around that. but what do i know im just another customer.
nuff said. sorry to bitch . keep rolling yall!!!
November 19th, 2008 at 2:16 am
I cant believe there are so many people dismissing this product before its even hit the shelves?!?!?!
How the hell do you know they arent as good as another product by looking at them???
Ignorant idiots.
Why would you talk shit on a new brand owned and run by some of the longest serving, top level and most respected names in rollerblading?
Its a good thing for rollerblading but lets hate on it……????????
I love Euolgy wheels, its pretty much all i ride but ill try em and THEN make up my mind.
November 19th, 2008 at 2:45 am
Shane Coburn? Tell me more! I miss his stuff.

Best Wheels ever check http://www.recnrollskateshop.com for a review soon
November 19th, 2008 at 3:05 am
matic,
I completely agree w/ you. This approach and theme is so damn cliched it’s pathetic and embarrassing. C’mon, with a name like “Street Artist” it’s so dumb, it makes me shudder. It’s beyond generic; it’s actually TERRIBLE.
Great, I love the fact that there is a new wheel company, but (1) The name/brand is horrible (2) The supporters or owners of the “Artist” wheels are just as hypocritical telling people not to make judgment before they jave ridden them, yet they themselves tell everyone these wheels are “the best/hot shit” before any one even has a chance to ride em. Hypocrites. You can claim all you want. Your wheels aren’t even proven yet. Also, you can say you cure them for 4 months before releasing them, but who’s to say you’re lying? Maybe in the first several batches or months, you’ll release legitimately cured ones. However, over time I bet you your hypocritical and lazy ass will eventually just release the wheels w/o even curing past a month. That’s just what I feel.
Anyway, whatever. If the wheels are constantly great, then awesome. But seriously, branding yourselves as generic a name as “Street Artist” is seriously shooting yourself in the foot.
November 19th, 2008 at 4:46 am
COZMO RENE HULGRENE!!!
BRING BACK THE VIKING!
November 19th, 2008 at 7:02 am
Ya’ll haters can’t fuck with AJ. That guy is great for rollerblading. I just rolled the 58mm wheels today and they are smooth like butter and sticky like big league chew. Yanomtombout bayybuh!
November 19th, 2008 at 7:34 am
this is dope.. end of story………
November 19th, 2008 at 1:23 pm
um… ryan, all wheels are good on the first day. Let us know how they are in four months. The Eulogys on my skates now are running strong, put them on in August and only had to rotate them once…… four days ago.
November 19th, 2008 at 2:07 pm
yea sure jump on the bandwagon of graffiti and street art. it be one thing if street art your company didt feature grafff then we could look at your company as hey they ride in the streets an there like artist but since u come off with graffiti and typical piecen just shows u guys dont no shit , come to nyc and study graffiti culture and then see how it has popd up all over the world onto every single clothing outfit billboard to the verizon phone billboards usen graffiti to well lets see now a wheel company by oh o watch out skaters , i still dont see no credit for the artist that did the graffo on your wheels with that said you guys are exploiting a culture that has more purity then skating and in quick terms a real writer will not buy your bullshit maybe some herb that wants to be down and look cool …AND THE MOST IMPORTANT THING BOUT THIS IS **WHO CARES WHO IS ON YOUR TEAM AND WHO SUPPORTS U,,ur like a bunch of movie stars that are in the same movie all the time it gets old yea we see talent but to be honest you guys all suck each others off behind the scenes just to be out there inthe spot light , real skating is fun and pure i bet you guys go out film your clips and then go home with out any skating just for the fun of it , you can keep it professional or have a great team standing behind you guys but yea when it boils down to it , its the joes and the smoes of this sport who run this shit not you guys filmin with you 1,000$ camera trying to make the industry bigger. if u havent noticed that it hasnt gotten bigger then you should relize that since u guys started youv been doing somthing wrong. just skate bring the fun back to skating not oh now we can market some new wheels i mean honestly how does that benifit anyone else but you pockets and your lil team of skaters who in all due respect have about 4 more years maxxx shelf life on the streets skating you need to wake up because b4 u kno it ul be as old as arlo doing xzactly what hes doing for the scene.. NOTHING./ TAKE YOUR GRAFF EXPLOITED WHEELS AND SHOVE EM UP YOUR ASS….and ford you could say u hate kids like me but honestly with out kids like me youl be going around thinking your the shit in a world of thousands of skaters who most of the reall good ones just do it because its what they love not because what section theyl be in or what next product could have there name on it. wake up exploiting is going to make you look dumb inthe end not me ,, been skating be4 your idea and will be skating after your idea fails./ ”And as far as exploiting graffiti style for merchandising, well what else is new? Any movement (think beats or hippies) will be exploited, but at least more actual graff writers are now being hired to do the work (look at Boost Mobile’s support of Revok, Retna and Saber) because they know kids can often tell the difference between posers and the real deal.” YOU GUYS ARE NOT THE REAL DEAL/

November 19th, 2008 at 6:13 pm
I just got my new setup from RW yesterday with the Splatter wheels on them and I am super excited about these wheels. Definitely a solid feeling wheel, rolls real solid and I’m pretty confident they will last for quite some time because of the incubation period to let the pour settle and what not. Review later on this weekend or so.
November 19th, 2008 at 6:52 pm
to graffiti writers don’t do street art, jay is right, you need to get off the “streets” and pick up a fucking English book. you’re the only one looking like an idiot with your awful literacy skills. Seriously, go back to school you fucking hood rat wannabe mongoloid.
November 19th, 2008 at 9:33 pm
OH O ITS THE INTERNET GRAMMER POLICE
November 19th, 2008 at 9:55 pm
The said graffiti will not be the only artistic direction they take.
Street art encompasses installation art, wheatpasting, stencils, stickers, and all that good shit. Plus those cans showcase some sick work in my opinion.
Im buying my set today from Blue Wallace!!!
Rollblue.com

November 20th, 2008 at 3:30 am
i have had to rotate every set of eulogys I have ever had every 7-10 days and I have had the 58mm STAR wheels for over 2 weeks and they still look new just with less of the graphic on the wheels
November 20th, 2008 at 3:55 am
“graffiti writers dont take english classes” hahahahaha.
as for the wheel, i got some from AJ a lil while ago, and they’ve been holding up great.
November 20th, 2008 at 4:02 am
the wheels actually look similar to Eulogy’s slim profile. + simple and clean graphics at an affordable price… why not?
hope this becomes the staple market for good, cheap wheels
November 20th, 2008 at 6:04 am
yup
November 20th, 2008 at 7:05 am
dont be hating until you try em i say, they are here in australia instock at baysideblades , will most def, grab a set of each and a shirt…
as long as the graffiti artist gets initials on the wheel and payed aight its all good , recognition… not some measly $$$ change and no recognition…
same was with shima& elliots skate co. and now look mad simple skate with koo design.. slides like butter and you can ride them for hours.., its always the same with every new co. that comes out with somthing new… visual,,, look and say not sure how they ll go but ill rep em just to see if its all legit and not some bull shit, just to make a buck…. some times with more co.s sure money can thin out at the start but it can later increase the amount of $$$ in the sport more co’s being able to help throw cash in for major comps to support locals and also pro rollers and up and coming talent…. thats definatly a great idea if thats what would be/is happening… look at BMXrs and skateboarders.. shit 30,000euros in cash!!! daaaam, but their a big sport , we all know why? exposure and a shit load of companies supporting the consumer and upcoming talent….
November 20th, 2008 at 8:32 am
“Rollervision”, you are f–king stupid.
You are just another cliched rollerblader kid with no sense of reality. Go on and continue to suck on the dick of Street Artist and every other new blading company that comes along that asks for you to “accept them” and “support them”, making stupid kids like you give them more money. When 6 months later, they’ll have disappeared, like every other poorly managed blading company.
November 20th, 2008 at 8:57 am
Can I ride 4 your team? I have been fired from my other teams for being asshole.
November 20th, 2008 at 2:18 pm
ALL U GUYS CAN DO IS ADDRESS THE GRAMMER BUT MY POINTS ARE GOOD AND REAL TO THE FACT .. HOW BOUT ADRESS MY SOME OF MY POINTS MADE.. LIKE I SAID U GUYS BE QUICK TO JUDGE SOMONE EXPLOITING SKATING BUT WHEN DONE TO ANOTHER SUB CULTURE U GUYS JOCK
November 20th, 2008 at 2:29 pm
haha looks like you guys walked around 5 pointz and took photos. Dude makes a good point who are the artist?
November 22nd, 2008 at 2:08 am
At the 08 hoedown broskow and farmer were selling the wheels and shirts for $10! Of course i bought them, and so far they are great! I admit that the graphics on the wheels aren’t too extraordinary but i look forward to seeing how their threads look!
But the wheels; so far so good. Haven’t gotten any flats, chunks, or de-coring….yet.
November 22nd, 2008 at 10:35 am

Hey my friend pointed it out to me, but check out the disclaimer in the begining of ICONS…..A little sneek preview of what was to come. Nice work AJ
but Jon Elliot did it already.
November 26th, 2008 at 1:40 pm
You guys need to chillout, a new brand like this needs support if the sport is going to evolve. what percentage of you have tried these wheels? i just got a set of red Blotters and they are sweet, nicely cured so havent dented or shifted in their shape – give them a break. its worth trying them out before you hate on them and they wont break the bank so its not a huge loss if you dont get on with them.
November 26th, 2008 at 5:52 pm
It all comes down to the future of the products. I just happen to live with a graf writer and it just so happened to spice up the product shots.
Everything else design wise is based around paint. You use paint in street art right Mr. hater?
Just wondering.
November 30th, 2008 at 1:07 am
adam johnson,
without blowing up spots, you should have SUFER do some shit for you guys.
