    Haha, nice!

  2. starscream Says:

    ouch…. :(

  3. Smashing Dumplings Says:

The rollerblading industry is nuts, Senate went from being the biggest wheel and apparel company in rollerblading to ghost of our past, then it pops up out of no where with a ‘toys r us’ level skate, I swear I never ceased to be amazed by our industry.

  4. Whoa Says:

    ‘toys r us’ level skate

Can you not also get Remz at ‘toys r us’?

  5. Guy Says:

I reallllyy don’t think this is senate making a comeback.

  6. J Says:

Awesome, not that I would buy them but its nice to know senate is making the “toys r us” level skate so the kids won’t be disappointed and might stick with the sport

  7. SHARK Says:

im shure there crappy skates but hey the more kids get into rollerbladeing the more the industry will grow, i consider it a good thing cuz once these break & they enjoy skateing there gonna go out & buy some real skates from companys that support what we do

  8. hoax34 Says:

    Seriously…?

  9. DF2T Says:

    Fuck ! It’s a rape !

  10. RollInAgen Says:

I’d rather call them “Senate: the corrupted” …

  11. CoachRollingVision Says:

hehe what a great name for a skate “the corrupter” hmm no i doubt toys r us would stock Remz.

  12. JE Says:

Sports World in the UK bought out the brands ‘Airwalk’ and ‘No Fear’ and now sell budget sprts goods (including REALLY rubbish skates) off the back of their name on the basis that people will see the supposed reputable brand and be fooled into buying it.

I reckon this is what has happened here but with a sports shop based in the states. Clearly they think that Senate was a recognisable enough brand to buy.

    Just a theory.

  13. krustcankill Says:

    r these new?
i really hope senate starts making some good shit again

  14. Rob C Says:

Senate is to rollerblading as Vision Street Gear is to skateboarding, shame shame.

  15. krustcankill Says:

    fuck off
    senate practically started rollerblading

  16. Scheherez Says:

    Oh….yeccchh!

    C’mon, Senate…

This is NOT what I expect from a pioneer of the industry, though. This looks…well. Not good, man. Not good at all.

  17. sk8rs_s0uL Says:

the reason why are industry cannot mainstream at all is because of shitty ass skates and terrible marketing skills.. we need to blow things up and make sure the kids and those who are not informed about our great sport get the good quality high tec shit and it should be dealt to companies that can make good on their end and blow things up…pass this on to your local pro or good friend of the rolling industry.. tell them we need to make better marketing decisions..because we suck.. thank you for reading something you already know.

  18. Scott the,uh,...Skater. Ya. Says:

My first pair of “aggressive” skates were some $50 Roller Derby inline skates my mom bought for my birthday! Ya, they sucked, but it got me into skating. I was not going to spend $200 on some quality skates until I tried it first. Someone has to make the “entry level” skates. Might as well be senate.
    P.S.
I don’t hear anyone complaining about Daily Bread stiffing everyone one on their subscriptions and then popping back up as “ONE” like nothing happened.

  19. Jonny C Says:

its good int eh sense that lil kids will get into it, but sucks how one of rollings best companys is left to this

but thats what happens when a big corporation owns a rolling company, and i bet you Kevin Gillan was forced to design those. he still works for bravo corp doing all their designs for like boxes and stuff

  20. al dolega Says:

This is nothing but a good thing, people. This will do nothing but help attract and most importantly retain new rollerbladers. Obviously we all would like to see Senate return to being a “real” company, aka a “core” company (ads, team, “real” products, etc), but the fact of the matter is that “core” rollerblading doesn’t make enough money to be worthwhile for Bravo (Senate’s parent company).

Most corporate sporting-goods companies would have done away with Senate completely years ago, but Kevin Gillan has stuck it out at Bravo, doing work on their other brands so he could keep working on Senate. Now he’s proven to Bravo that Senate is viable as a “generic” brand- something you find at Dick’s or MC Sporting Goods or Big 5 or Sports Authority- which is where 95% of kids who get into (or at least try) rollerblading get their first pair of skates.

Now they can get a pretty damned good skate for $80 (or less by the summer, I’d imagine), from a real rollerblading company. The skates are UFS, so that immediately creates a brand new market for our frame companies to sell to. The boot shell is a generic mold created by a Chinese manufacturer, yes- it has to be to sell at that price point- but KG is responsible for the colorway, branding, logos, etc- and particularly the box design, which Kevin has filled with info on our sport, the history of Senate, etc.

This way, these new kids can learn a little about rollerblading, and the brand they bought, and know that they’re part of a real sport. a real culture, a real art- whatever you think of skating as- not just some cheap substitute for skateboarding, which is what we all know their skateboarders friends are telling them.

That kind of shit is SUPER important to young kids and preteens- to know that what they’re doing and what they bought is legit, and cool, and worthwhile. We have a huge problem with retention in our sport- generic skates sell by the boatload but “real” skates sell by the carload- this is because there’s almost nothing in place to keep those first-timer kids interested and to convert them into “real” rollerbladers.

This Senate skate isn’t something anyone reading this is really going to be interested in skating, but it’s certainly going help ensure that the skates you DO like skating can continue to be made, and that you have people to skate with. What could possibly be wrong with that?

  21. al dolega Says:

Oh, and Scott….. ONE is not the “new version” of Daily Bread. Daily Bread was owned and ran by Angie Walton, who has absolutely nothing to do with ONE. ONE is Justin Eisenger, who did work for DB, and Wes Driver, who started (and ultimately had to end) Rejects.

  22. STD Super Pro Sk8s Says:

Hilarious. Now, I’m not gonna be dropping $80 US to buy these skates. But for novelties sake I might actually do it if I have enough money. I’m not offended that Senate has decided to release such a skate. Instead, I am EXTREMELY surprised that they’re still even around. Seriously what products is Senate currently making? Al Dolega, can you fill me in? I’m currently not in the USA market so I obviously can’t tell what products exist in your American sporting goods store.

Also, Angie Walton was a pathetic editor. The quality of DB mag got so bad I was actually embarrassed anyone could come up w/ something so unprofessionally done. Terrible articles, blatant grammar mistakes, horrible typos, and so on.

  23. drew Says:

    well this is…. interesting?

yes i think that senate needs to up their game, the last set of their wheels that i owned from them were nothing above the quality of the looks of this skate.

i wonder tho, what was this add posted in? was it a toy store or something like sports authority? does anyone know?

  24. drew Says:

my bad i didnt read that they were poseted in a big 5…. haha im an idiot

  25. al dolega Says:

As far as I know, Senate still makes the full line of “generic” stuff they’ve had for years now- pre-packaged wheel/bearing/spacer sets, grindplates, skate tools, etc- the stuff you can find at those big-box stores. Not the best quality for a “real” rollerblader, of course- the wheels don’t hold up to what we do with them, etc- but they’re not meant for us. They’re meant for that kid with rec skates who wants/needs new wheels to do tricks with.

  26. al dolega Says:

Here’s something I posted on Be-Mag in a thread about this, some of you might find it relevant:

I haven’t seen the box nor do I know its specific content, JC just told me that Kevin is making sure it has that kind of stuff on it, especially the history behind Senate. It would be dope if they could put some simple how-to’s on there for basic tricks- 360, frontside, soul, backside stall on ramps, etc- but I’m sure that would get nixed for liability reasons by the suits at Senate.

But we can hope. Even if it only has the history of Senate on there, that’s huge, and way more substance than any other generic skate offers. If kids just Google “Senate” when they get home from the store, that’s going to put them more in contact with “real” rollerblading than any other generic skate.

At the BCSD industry meeting I voiced one of my pet concerns/ideas- that we have nothing in place to retain these new skaters. Every year tens or hundreds of thousands of kids get generic skates like these (or if their parents are loaded, the Downtowns) and they go to the skatepark and they don’t know what the fuck to do. They can occupy themselves for a few weeks with the obvious stuff like learning to drop in, go over the launch box, etc… but once they’re done with that they have nowhere to go.

They know that tricks are done on skates- the real savvy ones might even know specifically that grinds are done- but they have no idea what or how to start learning. This is where the “OMG CAN U DO A BACKFLIPZ?!?!!” kids that we all know and love come from- they know nothing of rollerblading other than that we do tricks on ramps and rails, and stuff like backflips is all they can think of.

A “real” rollerblader shows up at the skatepark one day- a rare occurence at 90% of skateparks- and they’re so excited to see someone to look up to that they immediately bust out that infamous line. Then the rollerblader, annoyed, rolls his eyes and dismisses the kid immediately, or if he’s feeling real charitable, tries to explain to the kid that backflips aren’t really a “real” trick (yes, i know Pat Lennen and the Yasutokos do “real” backflips- I’m speaking in a general, everyday sense).

The kid feels stupid and is usually too ashamed to ask for an education from the rollerblader (who’s usually too cool or preoccupied to give it to him anyways), and leaves the exhange feeling like a clueless idiot. Meanwhile, his skateboard friends have no question as to what they should be learning and what they should be learning it on- not just because skateboarding is a lot more linear at first than rollerblading (learn to push, then ollie, then pop-shuv-it, etc)- but because instructional and educational material for skateboarding is easily, readily available to anyone who wants it.

Not too long after, the kid gives up on rollerblading, those generic skates sit in his closet, and he’s out skateboarding with his friends, because he has a path to follow into it, and all the resources he needs to do so. He’s able to educate and teach himself and draw himself into the sport. Rollerblading was an uphill battle against skateboarding’s popularity in the first place, made even harder by having zero guidance.

An instructional DVD included with ALL skates, produced in a uniform and consistent manner, with not just tips and hints but clear, concise, step-by-step instructions on how to learn each trick, and an education on not only what you should learn but where it can lead, would combat this whole scenario.

That kid could show up to the skatepark for his first session knowing exactly what he can and should work on, what’s gonna happen after that, what stuff is called, and most importantly, that he’s not alone, he’s doing something legit, and there’s people all over the world (even if there are none at his local park) that love rollerblading and push their limits with it everyday. When that “real” rollerblader shows up the kid would show that same enthusiasm but instead of asking the rollerblader if he can backflip he might compliment the trick he just did, by name, and earn a genuine response, not an eye-roll.

  27. talent310 Says:

abec-7s. at least they’ll be going fast ;) LOL.

  28. cooley! Says:

This is nothing but a good thing. There’s no fucking way I’d want to drop 200 bucks on something I’m trying for the first time.

Since Senate has been around for so long, they know what makes a good skate. I have no doubt that kids buying these are going to be really stoked when they start riding them. They’ll be on a good product for sure.

  29. Big5Employee Says:

Yeah thats right I work at El Grande Cinco! I would have to say they are pretty shitty but they are a beginner skate for someone who doesnt know any better so who cares. I myself prefer razors but thats just me. Hey what ever floats your boat.

  30. bkenji WOW Says:

does anyone not see the marketing technique here? these simple toys r us skates to us, are the way we ALL started. no one picked up blades and did a 360 top soul ok? this is a way for senate to get back to the game, while bringing a new generation into rollerblading, and maybe, just maybe, save our industry.

  31. qcsky Says:

    senate just saved rollerblading!!

  32. Nutsonya Chin Says:

i remember hearin bout a senate going to make senate skates back in like 99′

  33. gay Says:

yeh we all started on shitty skates. but this is senate… id kinda expect something nicer. new skates have to keep things simple not all this random patterns n horrible pointless shit. that style is so old.

dont get me wrong. if this is new, its good to see senate again.

  34. Lukas Says:

    …what? senate is still alive????

  35. Kojiro Says:

WTF is everyone crying about?? cheap skates for noobs. whats wrong with that?. kids that are 8-13 isn’t gonna have $200+ dollars in their pockets to get some pro skates like USD/Valo/Razors, its their parents that buys it for them. and yea $80 for some “AGGRESSIVE SKATE” sounds like a fine price for my kids birthday…am i right? Does your old man wakes you up and wants to talk about the new Carbon Deshi? NO! Parents don’t know these stuff, WE DO cause we’re in this field.Come on just think about it…

The first pair of “AGGRESSIVE SKATE” i had were some shit call “Oxygen” and their were heavy as fuk! but at age 14 i loved them! and doing a soul grind on some cheap skates felt as good as me doing it now on my valos which coste like $350 for my whole setup. but before that i knew nothing of the “Art of rollerblading” and some cheap skates at Big-5 it just open new doors for me.

Image kids with cheap-o skates from big-5 or toy-r-us and their just starting to love rollerblading and want to learn more about it. just inspire to get better (you know that feeling). They watch videos, surf webs and then see dumb ass people taking shit about their own sport and each other….what would you do after that? really just think about it. i swear…people never try to put themself in someone else shoes before start talking

Young kids are always looking up for inspirations, so show them something you can say, “Am proud to be a rollerblader”

  36. badazz Says:

this is Senates guerrilla tactic for gettni more rollers in the world! BRAVO! and I don’t mean the company….

  37. pom Says:

yay! some insightful responses, not just moronic dismissing abuse! maybe we can save the art of rollin’..

  38. neil Says:

i think its cool… i live in India and the only type of skate they sell here are even worse them senate….they do sell so good quality speed skates… but aggressive inline skating doesn’t even exist…kids rarely skate…sometimes i fear that im the only one from my country skating aggressive…and they dont even think of it as a sport….

so i think what senate is doing is great selling cheap good stuff (perfect for beginners… so they get into the sport and ..(*what ever every one else said*)

seriously my first skate were some Chinese brand (cheap, good, but not great) but they got me into the sport…
and doing shit on my nimh V2 kicks the hell out of every thing

    cheap skates like this helps….

kids in my country really love it when them see me skate and wish they could too…. hell.. i wish they could just go to a sports shop and buy a gd pair of aggressive skates.. but they cant… see coz no one sells them…
(i had mine shipped from USA).. cost me a lot a money but totally worth the it..

P.S skating isnt even an industry in India…

  39. Wonton Says:

    Looks decent.

  40. memory lane Says:

It’s bascially the SEnate brand name on a cheaper budget starter product. It’s like some little kid buying a shitty deck at sports authority to try out skatebaording then buying a complete deck setup if he decides to stick with it. SO…what’s wrong with some little kid buying a pair of cheap skates to start out, trying them, then having the option of buying a betterpair and sticking with it?? NOTHING AT ALL!! IT WOULD HELP OUR SPORT. this pair sohuld be in every sports authority store next to the shitty senate wheels that they sell pre packaged.

  41. memory lane Says:

Mind you, blades cost way more than a complete skateboard deck setup.

  42. 4114N Says:

will be lovely with tinny colorfull pants!

  43. tonyrivituso Says:

al nailed it on the head with his post from be-mag. i think to the first time i skated my first pair of aggressive skates. purchased for $80 at Big 5 sporting goods, i rocked my oxygens knowing i wanted to go fast and jump around. i had no fucking clue what a soul or negative space was. the grind space in the frame and grind plates made it quite evident what was supposed to happen there. long story short, if i hadn’t bumped into some other rollerbladers up the street sessioning a play rail, i would have never spent the following evening tossing and turning, eagerly awaiting the next morning to come so i could put my new skates on and improve on what i had just learned.

  44. Danielson Says:

There is only one beef I have with whats being said here. Senate did used to be the biggest brand in our sport. They have made everything from clothing, to wheels, bearings, frames, and now even skates. And it is also true, that Senate is only a ghost of what it once was. But I really don’t see why everyone hates their aggressive wheels so much. I have been riding Senate sinner wheels for like the last 3 years now, because they are cheap, and I feel like they are just about as good as any other wheel. (And yes, I have rode other wheels, including Eulogy, Mindgame, and just about every boot company’s team wheel. So I do know how other wheels ride). Infact, the only probblem I have ever had with Senate wheels is that they wear down a little quicker. No chunking, no coring. So am I just crazy, or are you guys just hating on the wheels because they are “pre packaged” and the fact that Senate isn’t a big player in our sport at the current moment? Seriously, I don’t see the problem. I actually have Sinners wraped around some abec 9′s on my Remz Os2′s right now. I must be losing my mind.

  45. Danielson Says:

And yes it is true that WE ALL started on crappy skates. I got mine from Dicks Sporting Goods, and they lasted about 6 months before they fell apart. Every other time I have switched skates (about 8 times now), it was because I wanted to upgrade to something new. My first skates (generic), was the one and only time that I had to, because the skates were no longer rideable. So after actually looking at these Senate skates, they look pretty rad for a beginner. They look comfy, with ufs frame, some
“passable” wheels. All in all, it is WAY better than what I started on, and I imagine that it is better than what most of you guys had at first. I ‘d say they are probly the best you’ll get for a beginner skate.

  46. tonyrivituso Says:

    danielson,
seriously, either you skate on baby-bottom smooth surfaces, or you got a hold of a miracle batch. there have been quite a few times i haven’t been able to spring for my preferred brand (eulogys), so i’ll opt for the sinner wheels from chicks sporting goods. inevitably they have about at 2-3 day shelf life. either they will core, or they get chunkier than the chicks that my roomate is into. my opinion is, you are wasting your money on any wheels except eulogys.

  47. Jay Says:

the skate isnt bad looking for what it is

if those frames were good i’d think i’d rock em with the flat rocker setup

  48. Danielson Says:

tonyrivituso, I dunno. I guess I’m lucky or something. My last 3 sets of wheels were Senate sinners. I’ve never had a problem, so I continued to use them. I kind of just figured that almost all wheels were about the same quality, since I have never had problems with the “low level” wheels, and I have never seen any benefit of expensive wheels ( like the Eulogy chromes I bought a year ago). I figured it was all just propaganda. The only wheels I have ever had trouble with, were the stock Razors cult 4 wheels ( they pretty much fell apart within a week) and the stock Salomon team wheels(which cored after a couple months). Other than that, all wheels have treated me the same. And that goes from Senate sinners, or TRS team wheels, all the way to Eulogy or Mindgames. I don’t baby my wheels or skates either. I ride in whatever terrain I feel like taking on. I realize that there has to be a reason that everyone hates senate wheels, but like I said, the worst thing that they have done for me, is wear down a little quick. I guess it’s just like how some people don’t notice the difference in bearings. I MUST have atleast abec 7′s, but I prefer Titatanium or Swiss bearings. Riding stock abec 3′s would be hell for me. But I’ve heard many say that, “bearings are bearings, I don’t see a difference.” Which is CRAZY to me. To tell me that there is no difference between generic abec3′s and the Mindgame titaniums, would be like telling me that there is no difference between Roces and Remz. Oh and btw, I use Senate anti-rockers too. I have been using the same set of Senate brass knuckle antis for almost 5 yrs now. I know that is a little different, because antis aren’t meant to roll. But in my eyes, they work as good as
good as 4×4 or eulogy antis, but cost half the price. But I will say that the best antis are uhmw, which Senate does not make. So I will agree that Senate does not make the “best” antis for that reason.

  49. STD Super Pro Sk8s Says:

For anti-rockers, as log as they are urethane, the brand virtually doesn’t matter whatsoever. However, if your anti-rockers are those extremely shitty GC plastic ones, then yes, I hate those big time. They rattle and feel so cheap.

  50. Cary Thomas Says:

Hahah. man these are sweet. I like how the arguments all change the farther the comments go down. Man. when i was nine i would only dream of having these rollerblades. kids these days are lucky.

  51. rollerblading is gay Says:

i am amazed at the amount of level headed responses.

    bravo

  52. neil Says:

this had to be the most talk about post…

  53. heineken Says:

It’s the start of the next generation of rollerblading….!!!
Someone has to get new blood in the industry….. only Senate has the name to get the attention from Stores and customers outside of the Rollerblading industry, so it makes perfect sense to use that brand power. I surely wont heard that this will be THE brand that the new Generation will be growing up with. When the Industry reforms ….. Domination ones again !

  54. Nuts Says:

    rollerblading=style
    senate=rollerblading
    this skates=confusion

Looks like quality and comfortable skates and for kids could be very sick.

Im sure Senate know how to make also stylish skates… way to go.

  55. TotalNuts Says:

This remember me K2,SalmononSt1 and with kinda remz cuff. Dejavu from the past.. O:)

  56. SOBS A.S.R Says:

WE NEED TO REMEMBER THAT THIS IS NOT THE TRUE SENATE COMPANY BUT IS ONE WHICH WAS BOUGHT OUT BY SOME GAY GUYS FROM ARLO AND BROOK. THE SENATE PRODUCTS WE GREW UP BUYING REPRESENT ROLLING! THIS NEW COMPANY IS A P.O.S… WE NEED TO SHUT IT DOWN BY ONLY SUPPORTING REAL ROLLING COMPANIES AND REAL SKATERS IN THE INDUSTRY…
STEP ONE IS TO GET BACK IN THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA SUCH AS THE X-GAMES!!!!!

SOBS A.S.R. JERSEY CITY & N.Y.C. TO ORLANDO FL.
    KEEP ROLLING ROLLR4LYFE

  57. colin Says:

senate knows skating if you look at the skates the components look solid granted it looks like a basic shiny ass skate but the basic aggressive shit is all their. decent frame, heel strap, abec 7′s are a surprise and decent senate wheels I am willing to bet if you tried these you would be surprised in how good they really are, even more for 79.99. But I still have to wonder what arlo thinks about his baby putting out low end gear. so skate companies try to live by this code W.W.A.D- what would arlo do?

  58. Hayden Says:

SORRY TO UPSET YOU ALL But i have been skating since 2001 and i recenty decided to sell my valo eb 1.3s for some cash to pay a bill and resorted to big 5 for some cheap skates for the love of skating and found these and i was sceptacal as all hell at first but they skate like the morales remz they flex hella good the soul plates are small but tops are way easy cause they flex so its a good skate i would recommend it for cheap budgets

  59. Hayden Says:

but dont get me wrong i would much rather my valos back i had the kiezer white and gold freestyle frames with the jug morales liners but they aint bad they hall ass with the abec sevens and are suprisingly light senate did a good job for there first skate

  60. Roa Says:

I got them, they aren’t half bad, kind of unconfertable.

  61. Cheap Skateboard Ramps Says:

I have you bookmarked to check out new objectsyou post.
