I do a few things and at 26 it keeps me going smooth. Don't push hammers anymore, but skate smart and have fun.

Surfing helps my cardio and back and chest/core muscles. Also enjoy bike riding and longboarding.

Push ups and variations of sit ups/planks every night to second night.

A few free weight lifting keeps your body evened out.

A good solid hour of stretching every muscle possible really really helps. I try and focus on hamstrings and hips.

I could do more but these few small things even 2 times a week really really help.

taking fish oil pills before skating are great too.
after my knee surgery I took them instead of anti inflammatory pills and they were amazing. they were recommended by my buddy's girl who is a naturopathic doctor

now I take one before skating and don't have any pain afterward.

I swear by them - get the good ones, the more pricey ones. there are cheapies, but they contain less actual fish - if you are going to buy the cheapies you may as well not buy them at all.

great interview. nice to see that the sport has us loosing the generation gap and older guys are sticking around.

Word up, Rob G speaks teh tr00f :)

I take Glucosamine Sulphate pills, they do help quite lot as my knees have improved a fair bit. You can get them for cheaper than $40 in some places that do delivery or places like Holland & Barrett in the UK. I think cod liver oil is supposed to help a bit as well for joint lubrication.

Rob G is the man and this was great.

I'm always about stretching before a session and warming up properly. I remember this one kid said you don't need to stretch if you warm up correctly. Uh, right dude. If you can make that work for you, do it up. But I need to get limber first.

I would also recommend folks go to the gym and do some legs. I love doing yoga, but it's expensive. Just doing some of the same motions you do on skates, without your skate, right before you skate, in a smooth, fluid motion, will help limber you up.

So true but how many time I earn only laugh for streching before my session or explaining to other kids that if they want to be better they should rest more/strech/do some musculation or another sport. My both knee are cainning and sometimes it's so hard to skate, some younger one don't really understand the price some people pay to skate.
Rob G all for you, all for you.

good interview and its nice see, that i`m not the only person that has some problems with getting an older body and still blading :)

by the way, warm up 10-15 minutes before skating is more important than stretching. when you warm up, your muscles get filled with blood and its easyer for your heart to pump it through your veins.
but you should stretch also sometimes and stretching has a positive psychology effect to athelts before doing sports.

rob g is a cool guy! go on!
