Remember The Roces Impala 62 Skates ?

I don’t know if anybody remember Roces’ legendary Impala 62′ with alloy frame specifically designed for ramp riders.
Rene Hulgreen, Cesar Mora, Tom Fry … all sported those back in the days. I spent the last three years trying to find a pair with the yellow spoiler, and it is in an infamous Shop near Paris that I finally found my Graal (photo above)

I thought itwould be great to skate in those, but we’re well aware that the Impala’s are just too damn old, there’s not even a straight soul space to lock on correctly. Then I remembered that there are versions of M12 UFS! So back to the very same shop to order some UFS soul plates.
I spent a whole night to get those damn rivets off, and I can tell you they are f#@!king solid! I added a pair of Fifty Spizer, only UFS frame I could find in a blue color to stay in the same color scheme of the original Impala 62′, so here’s what I came up with (photo above)

November 12th, 2006 at 3:02 pm
how is the high cuff working for you?
November 12th, 2006 at 3:05 pm
Ha ha very nice, I had the roces “vert” modell which was the one before the impala, they were my first pair of aggressive skates!
November 12th, 2006 at 3:09 pm
Those are a blast from the past! I have to agree with “memoteran”… some Cozmo wheels would be the cherry on top. Hell… if you wanna go old school find some FR wheels. Cozmo still makes wheels… FR is long gone!
November 12th, 2006 at 3:14 pm

November 12th, 2006 at 5:45 pm

November 12th, 2006 at 9:34 pm
beautiful, just beautiful. thats exactly the setup i am looking for. i got m12 black but i can´t find an inpala with yellow cuff to get the cuffs from. but i would cut the cuff off, like we did with m12 back in the days before low cuff was released. oh my god, the skate looks soooo sweet!
November 12th, 2006 at 10:03 pm
That’s pretty decent man. I wanted to do that so bad with a pair of Rollerblade Lightnings I found but the boot is way too inferior. Nice work on yours man!
November 12th, 2006 at 11:20 pm
I have always wondered, because I havent skated for so long and those skates are way befor my time. but besides that, can u skate handrails or sliding ledges with those oldschool soles and u wouldt have to lean forwards I have always wondered how it worked with soles before the straight sole era
November 12th, 2006 at 11:42 pm
Sick, ive got some roces verts with hyper fatboys on em!
November 13th, 2006 at 1:20 am
HOW MUCH DID THEY COST?
November 13th, 2006 at 1:26 am
Yellow on skates pwns
November 13th, 2006 at 2:01 am
yeah, morris ables are more the color of the original frame. they look brilliant though. good job!
Jan, get white m12 cuffs and dye them yellow, it should work just fine.
November 13th, 2006 at 4:13 am
Thats sweet man! I was rolling the Roces Moscow Ramps back in the day, if any of you remember that skate. And in reply to n1qo, soul tricks are 10 times harder on those skates, just like the original trs lightnings with like 3/4″ of soul in the front. 90% of the grinds being done today would not be possible on those original impalas. But I’ll tell you one thing, it did not stop
“THE VIKING”(only true old skoolers will know who that is) from doing inverted 900’s way back in the early 90’s!
November 13th, 2006 at 8:42 am
Thank You everyone who loved the custom.
Cozmo wheels, is a good idea, still got som Tim Ward somewhere I gotta find’em.
True that the able are more true to the original frame color, but I can’t skate Ables…
To answer Sac Attax, they disdn’t cost much, the skates + plates + the frames cost less then a 100€ that’s about 120$.
And Scott W, The young ones would never know how blading was before, at the time when John Julio will do fishbrain rockets and backlides with the Majestics Tweve! Keep ROLLING!!!!!
November 13th, 2006 at 9:46 am
Turn them off!! Its too bright!! My eyes hurt!! I think I’m tripping man!! lol
does anyone know were I can finda ufs sole kit for the old m12’s like this guy used? My friend needs them badly. Size 12, preferably in America.
November 13th, 2006 at 10:19 am
ah man those look sick, good to see you sticking to your roots
props
November 13th, 2006 at 10:50 am
I aswell appreciate representing your roots. But never in a million years would I cheat myself by buying outdated, inferior products. There is a reason Frames and souls have evolved. To make you skate better. Taking this trip down memory lane only defeats this purpose. That is why you had to buy the extra parts, and bust your ass to change the souls.(those old rivets are a pain I know.) I love watching old videos, but I refuse to hop in a time machine and wear skates that limit your skills. ( I know a few of you will accuse me of not respecting our history, but that simply isn’t true). But, if they work 4 you, then I am happy 4you. rock on
November 13th, 2006 at 11:14 pm
@satan: yeah, your right! forgot to think about that. i will do this when i don´t find an impala soon.
November 14th, 2006 at 2:54 pm

http://www.skates.com has the orginal 62 Impala Frame Assembly on sale.
We found it in our warehouse during an inventory coun and decided it was time to sell
This is unused but the wheels are yellowed from exposure to warehouse light over time - over ten years of time.
