Ramelle Knight & Calvin Sayles-Deadly Combination

When you think of dominant sports, freestyle rolling may not come to mind, but pro skaters Ramelle Knight and Calvin Sayles are out to change that perception. Freestyle rolling follows in the footsteps of extreme sports and is often referred to as “aggressive skating.” It’s a modern day progression of inline skating which blends music and fashion, just don’t call it rollerblading.
In early 2006 two New York filmmakers, Chris and Courtney Brown, released a documentary on freestyle rolling called, Know Difference, which featured Ramelle and Calvin. The film eventually caught the attention of Diplomat Records co-CEO, Jim Jones. When Jim approached The Brown brothers they told him how much the skaters loved the Diplomat’s movement.
Known for setting trends early, Jones capitalized on the opportunity and decided to get involved with the culture and he launched DipSkate. Tastemaker.Biz talked with DipSkate’s chief skaters Ramelle and Calvin about what they have on their plate and how they plan to push awareness for the sport to the masses. [...]

I don’t like to hate on any roller.
Or anyone who attempts to do something good for the sport/art/discipline/whatever.
But two things:
1. “Freestyle rolling”…..why give “rolling” the word “freestyle”? Especially when you’re using two rollers who roll in an extremely (for want of a better word) “orthodox” way by doing techn switch-ups and not very much else. But seriously, what’s wrong with the word “rolling”?
2. Gangsta…..it stems from hip-hop and um…..our roots are already in hip-hop…..so you’re creating a trend how? I roll in XXXL clothes and I certainly don’t think I’m doing anything new just because I like a bit of creative rolling on the side. And I also don’t have a problem rolling with “emo” skaters either. People should just DO and be themselves instead of trying to fit nicely under these two “brands”:
“Emo roller”: must wear tight jeans and xsjado’s. 360 toe rolls for the win. Ejaculate on Chris Farmer and Jeff Stockwell if met face to face.
“Gangsta roller”: must 540 all of their gaps. No 360’s allowed. All tricks must be landed fakie. A grind that isn’t done on a rail with a topside, truespin or full cab isn’t a grind……
It’s sad. And yeah, to what somebody else said, for a company called “B Unique” I’d expect more variation on image….a wider spectrum if you like. Maybe I’m missing something. Do’t get me wrong, they’re great to their riders and make great threads and great dvds but still……
Meh, I don’t own a company so I don’t want to get nit-picky. Despite my views I admire anyone who TRIES to do something good for us, whether or not they succeed is different I guess…….
