how do you do that?
just because I like showing off my knowledge of shit:
1. shoot the shot with no skater, then with skater (locked-off camera to make it work because I’m sure these guys don’t have motion control)
2. then painstakingly rotoscope and track out the legs arms and body. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rotoscope
probably in after effects or combustion.
then again 50 ways to skin a cat, so he may not have done exactly as I said. one of the shots look like the shirt could have been added in after the fact.
hey Mike Dempsey: did you paint the boot back in to get the inside of the liner to show up once you’d removed the legs? or did you just black it out? what really would have made it a little cooler would have been if you’d added in some subtle camera moves/bumps after the fact.
great work though like I said, I’ve been wanting to do this with the Spike Jonze clip for a while.

damm that was so fucking diferent
thats the coolest shit in skate videos
never wached a skatevideo with that kind a mask ..only the old movie from the cinema ..
and more important
thats some how the way i feel like when im skating
congrats brooo
July 17th, 2009 at 9:26 pm
my guess is that on the jump over the ledge from the side angle you just threw the boot over the edge and comped it in (best guess).
this is the combination of my two loves right here. thanks again for posting.

Not feeling the final result, but i do have tons of respect for how that took in post production, and the physical task of even coming up with that short. :) Good deals.

Thanks everyone! All the credit for this ad is owed to Mike Dempsey though, we’re just lucky to have good friends.
Since my camera had just been stolen we decided to ask Mike to make our ad this year and since he was doing us a favor we gave him 100% creative control and free range to do whatever he wanted.
Mike worked his ass off despite the short deadline he was given. He managed to squeeze in time between working all day and going to school and ended up blowing us away with the final result. He definitely went above and beyond our expectations, and we can’t thank him enough!

Ha ha love it. Can’t help noticing that he is skating with no pants on though!…if he was visable would he be indecently exposed!!? …Visable or not, a dude’s just gotta have support in some places!

you cease to amaze me michael, im gonna call you to go skating someday. cant wait to enjoy a hearty breakfast too.

Nowhere on this ad, in the writes-ups or anywhere else online does it say this is a completely original concept and has never been done before in the history of film and media. Mike a used a green suit, do you know how many people in film/entertainment history have you used green screens to create effects? Mike made us a commercial and I was proud of it and excited to share it with my rollerblading community.
We (Print Brigade) are trying to help promote and give back to rollerblading because we love it, however this is the one and ONLY market that we are involved in that we find ourselves constantly having to defend our ideas and designs. It sometimes makes me wonder why do we even fucking bother?

i agree with jamie

thatwasfire… For the jumping over the ledge shot i took a photograph of the inside of the boot then stitched it in. Your right doing some post camera movements would have given an extra kick to this vid. I may go back in and try that someday, as well as fix some other masking problems.
