Nimh Skates

up:
Jon Elliott and Brian Shima welcome the arrival of the Nimh Skates to the Rat Tail warehouse.
Here they are standing on one of four stacks of boxes we unloaded this morning from a 40 foot container, which was blocking a lane of traffic in front of our office.
The first orders are currently being packed and shipped and should be available in ALL stores in the United States next week. More

up: Check some pics of the NIMH skates taken apart. Link
Thanks Wuroller

Moi qui espérait un nouveau moule. Il faudra se contenter d’un cult au nez coupé. On pourra se consoler avec le spoiler et la soul-plate qui ont l’air d’être la seule vrai nouveauté.
November 16th, 2007 at 5:15 pm
im gonna rock them skinless, and liner-less so i get the full beach sandal effect. hahaha, just fucking around
November 16th, 2007 at 5:26 pm
Cutting of the toe seems to be getting a hype as of late. I might try it, I can see the advantages.

November 16th, 2007 at 7:06 pm
there arent cults either ^^^
look sick as fuk though!! im gonna cop a pair!
November 16th, 2007 at 7:14 pm
what everyone assumes is razor’s “cult” mold is actually an “open” mold- anyone using that manufacturer can use it. razors started off ten years ago doing basically the same thing NIMH is doing- designing their own parts to work with that shell. and people have been skating that shell ever since because it fits well and nowadays is pretty affordable, either in the razors cult or NIMH configuration.
November 16th, 2007 at 7:52 pm

November 16th, 2007 at 8:20 pm
Roces… hahaha, wtf.. the last thing this industry needs are more companies, even if they are skater owned drawing money to seperate companies making it harder for the already existing ones to exist, thus ruining it for the lot of us! if its not going to actually be new and different and warrents being made, and i dont mean a stupid skin, dont make it, because it may be giving kids something to buy and feel cool about but realisticly its killing the industry… honestly, that sakte looks hopeless and pointless. take a lesson in business
November 16th, 2007 at 8:21 pm
ps… nice pants shima :S
November 16th, 2007 at 8:25 pm
I dont like them
November 16th, 2007 at 8:26 pm
you think they’ll come with anything in the way of shock absorbing? i think they’ll get a point against valo if they produce a stylish looking skate that’s comfortable and has a decent shock system.
November 16th, 2007 at 8:33 pm
the guy above who said NIMH is gonna hurt the industry doesn’t know dick. would you rather your money go to big businesses like RB, Roces, K2 or Razors instead of two skaters who made the sport what it is? that doesn’t make any sense. i mean buying skater owned skates is the only way to ensure that blading sticks around, long after RB, or Roces pull out, or Andy Wegener buys more swimming pools, Mercedes and Hummers. don’t be stupid. this is the best thing to happen to skating since… well, in a long ass time. good luck guys!
November 16th, 2007 at 8:44 pm
I agree 100% with what kristian said.
Who would you rather support, Brian Shima or some guy who went to business school for the sole purpose of making money (no love) off selling us skates. Who made this sport what it is today?
The NIHM skates look great by the way. The shell they are using is perfect. I can’t think of any advantages from designing an entirely new boot mold. Please say the advantages if you have any. The M12 shell is the best fitting shell I’ve ever skated.
Congrats and good luck to Shima and Elliot for starting NIHM

Donie you don’t know shit, and Kristian I like you.
Andy and the rest of them are investors. They eat, sleep, and breath MONEY. They don’t care about our sport. They may used to, but not any more. We are poster childs for these companies and they keep making money on the riders, but yet they don’t want to share the love. 100% skater owned is awesome. We’ve got 2 awesome guys behind NIMH and everyone else they know supporting them. I’m one of them and I want to help grow our sport. Our industry is not dead! There are a ton of rec skaters and once they get better, we convert them into aggressive skaters. Give the kids room from growth. For sure one thing that needs to happen, is we need to go main stream. I’m sorry if I’m affending someone, but its true. We need to get back into the lime light.
Jon and Brian, you both know our sport inside and out and you guys will help make an impact.
November 16th, 2007 at 11:36 pm
damn, that boot is fcking sick, that toe-less mould is the solution for my pain problems. :)
btw, do they have any shock absorbing at all?
November 17th, 2007 at 12:29 am
it will be nice to buy the new cult and put the nimh souls on it :)
November 17th, 2007 at 3:57 am

November 17th, 2007 at 4:00 am
I dont think anyone is in the rollerblading industry for the money.
It barely turns any kind of profit is my guess, thats why salomon and k2 are out
people are in it because they like being paid for their passion
November 17th, 2007 at 9:49 am
Archer, you have to understand that RB sells more aggressive and rec blades than anybody else in the country. Maybe even the world.(that is fact) So… They can be , and are in the bussiness of making money. They lost there passion for the sport once the $$ got invlolved. If you read the inside back page of the first issue of one, they actually brag about how they made even more profit after they made cuts to there pro team(Broskow& Morales to name two) However there is hope. Shima and Elliot are trying to do something positive for the sport. We need to support the good companies , and filter out the evil. BTW It’s Not A ROCES SHELL PEOPLE!!!! It is a RAZORS CULT shell, which is very very similar(I’ve had both) But I will say that the cuff looks similar to a ROCES. It’s definatley not RAZORS(It’s too high in the back). Skate hard, Live hard . Peace.
November 17th, 2007 at 9:54 am
Oh yeah, They are VICOUS liners. Not Reign. knowledge is power. Learn to read.
November 17th, 2007 at 1:41 pm
i like em might get a pair
November 17th, 2007 at 2:17 pm
Nimh is the start of a new era is we speak about rollerblading history. Skater owned companies will one day be able to give their pros full back up and health insurance; something no proffessional has unless they pay for themselves. This is the key for the sports development too; proffessionals can risk their lives with a decent price on the hook, without it, it is simply too dangerous and too irresponsible to gamble with injuries.
Nimh may shift the forces back into the U.S.A., but the rest of the rollerblading world needs to remember they never cared much about Europe back in the 90´s when it was big. Americans still think they own rollerblading sometimes, but the pendulum will swing some times more before we see anything stabilised.
Designwise, it is interesting to see that at last people wonder about the shock absorption issue. This razors first generation mold is not the best thing to look after your bruised gap thirsty heels; they are UFS adapted, not flat at the bottom so you would end up on high heels if you did put shock absorbers resulting in a sprained ankle.
Very good marketing idea and definitely the solution for Rolerbladings lack of finantial independence, if we give them the support they need they will produce another healthier mold eventually, instead of recurring to what Julio did with valo, as Shima and Elliott have done with razors, that independence is one step away.
We need to support them until they are independent from the bussinessmen, everyone sabotage the conference and Andy wagner!
November 17th, 2007 at 4:51 pm
a17…
where do you get the idea that a lifted heel will cause sprained ankles? It will cause a sprained ankle if your skates are not tied tight enough. For some reason people think lots of ankle flex is good and never tie their skates, just plain stupid. Figure skaters skate on “high heels”, about a 1.5 inch tall heel, do quad jumps (spin a 1440 off flat ground) and land on one foot skating backwards. They have better designed boots than we do which cost about $850 without a blade.
November 17th, 2007 at 5:29 pm
They are really growing on me, the old razors mould was always amazing and i like the idea of bringing back the old high cuffs too
November 17th, 2007 at 11:26 pm
wow….. I thought they just LOOKED like valo’s
November 18th, 2007 at 3:20 am
donie is a fucking retard.
November 18th, 2007 at 5:19 am
Rock on Brian and John. Put out a white skate so I can dye it, and I’ll ride it.
November 18th, 2007 at 6:29 am
kids who say these look like valos: you ahve no idea what you are talking about. you are saying that just because it has a skin. i bet you your mom jsut bought you your first pair of genesis skates because you got made fun of at the skate park with your rec skate?
these look nothing like valos, learn your history, skins have been around and making skates look like shoes for almost 10 years now.
November 18th, 2007 at 9:29 am
more like 6 years, since the TRS came out, but yea, still a long time.
November 18th, 2007 at 9:59 am
I’m glad they got rid of those superfluous cuff flaps, they annoyed me.
Looks like a solid product, though I can’t see myself buying them. Good to see the industry growing.
November 18th, 2007 at 8:10 pm
none of you know dick
November 23rd, 2007 at 4:02 pm
looks like Roces with skins, just like Valos…i have nothing against either of them they all look sick, but damn, they need new material
November 24th, 2007 at 1:13 am
the toe idea is shit and after all doesnt the liner restrict the toes movement. Also you will be able to feel the ridge of where the toe is cut when your foots inside it. Any one with some sense will also know that the liners are most likely to be reign and thats one good thing.
Do any of you actually think that shima and elliot will design a new shell and shit every time they bring a new product out. I bet by march/april they will release a white pair to rob you of your money. Then after that they will change the skin design
November 26th, 2007 at 1:22 pm
bla bla bla what you say adam? they ve gone for somthing that works well and made it their own, i dont thinkyou ll be able to move your feet , it ll be a snug glove like fit, firmly sitting on your feet and feel as if their part of you.
cant wait to grab me a pair , 7days! :-)
