I hate the way television companies make skating look shit…
this is probz why u get all the lil kids comin up to u at a skatepark saying
“can you do a backflip meeehtt”….”no im not a monkey”
“you what you dickhead”….ETC
October 3rd, 2008 at 12:44 pm
Mate, fuck off, that would look cool enough to any kid out there seein that on tv. Any tv coverage rollerblading gets is a good thing.
October 3rd, 2008 at 1:13 pm
great publicity! they gave respect to rollerblading. PROPS
October 3rd, 2008 at 2:43 pm
Woah! Shawn Martin just flipped, slid and soared his way into my heart!
October 3rd, 2008 at 2:53 pm
someone should tell that poor kid he wont ever be rich if he becomes pro. lol
October 3rd, 2008 at 4:49 pm
mate, do one.
October 3rd, 2008 at 4:52 pm
all those kids in philly killing shit and this kid is on tv, thats a bad look
hahah
October 3rd, 2008 at 4:57 pm
having little kids do backflips isnt gonna make our sport look cool or have people talking…show david sizemore, haffey, morales, shima….it will have people thinkin cuuz those guys have steeze
October 3rd, 2008 at 5:01 pm
Show street skating on national television…its always park whenever our sport is in public….And its always a little kid.WHY is that???
October 3rd, 2008 at 5:29 pm
To anyone over the age of 15, that probably didn’t look that cool, BUT, it shouldn’t be all negative.
If i was a ten year old that saw that in the middle of my parents watching cnn, i would have taken a liking to it.
It won’t get older people skating, but mabye it’ll get some young people into it.
October 3rd, 2008 at 6:22 pm
the tv station said they got over 2,000 emails after the segment aired with people asking wher to buy skates, what skates, the skate park address nd info on AIL
October 3rd, 2008 at 8:19 pm
its all good, why would they show a 20 odd year old man skating when you can show a sick little kid. sure the man may be better but why would they show him?
October 3rd, 2008 at 8:23 pm
i bet a few more kids will be getting aggressive skates for christmas now. and yeah seriously, why would parents be interested in a 20 year old pro rollerblader? think about that image, how many parents really want their kids to grow up to be pro rollerbladers and not make any money. a little kid is cute and hes in a safe, legal skatepark, so this is about as good as its going to get on the news.
October 3rd, 2008 at 8:44 pm
lots of you idiots forget that “any publicity is good publicity”
dope that there was a little segment that long about rollerblading
October 3rd, 2008 at 8:58 pm
Heh, I was on a local news channel once, they did the exact same thing. Whored clips of my flips, and maybe included a grind or two. Went to school the next day and my classmates and teachers wouldn’t shut up about the backflip.
If people want the flips, show them the flips. I think that’s a major reason why rollerblading had died down so much. Rollerblading is all about strange, technical grinds and style now, and the public (the money) doesn’t give two shits about it, they just want the flips. A long time ago, when the money was flowing, it was difficult to find a single competition run without a flip, now I’m lucky to see one throughout an entire comp. If we give the public what they want, they’ll give us what we need.
October 3rd, 2008 at 10:08 pm
see, now this just pisses me off, the publicity is good and every thing, but he did not deserve it at all.
it’s no fair that he gets to be in the news because his parrents have to much money so they decide to send him to woodward. im practally his age now and can kill him at skating, and when i first started i saw his edits on youtube, so it’s not like hes some good skater. if more kids had the chance to go to a place like woodward some REAL skaters would start emerging.
October 3rd, 2008 at 10:28 pm
hes so over rated, only good because hes noticed. but props for getting publicity.
October 3rd, 2008 at 10:49 pm
Well…she says at the end how to submit anyone you know to the news station. If you think you should be on tv, then submit your email. It’s only for kids that are doing something positive.
October 3rd, 2008 at 10:58 pm
not a bad segment for a news channel. Not to crush his dream, but he should focus on going to college instead of competition skating. Business Blading makes no money.
October 3rd, 2008 at 11:27 pm
I swear man whoever edited that is an idiot. News producers are some of the shittiest editors ever. his skating in that segment could have looked 10 times better, shitty camera man.
October 4th, 2008 at 12:07 am
Wtf is with the haters? Kudos to this kid for getting us out there. When was the last time you guys saw us on the news in the past 5 years? F*ck, you haters are keeping us down. Kudos to this kid, and mad props to his dad for getting the word out there. Do you idiots not see how dead this sport is compared to how it was? How can you be so small minded and retarded as to think any publicity is bad publicity? Lemme break it down for you.
Some kid gets spotted, news picks it up.
News puts kid in a segment
Kids think, hey that’s kinda cool.
Kids get their parents to buy skates and gear
Parents pay for entrance into skate parks, buy magazines, videos, etc.
Industry goes, zomgwtf money!
It’s good all around. Sport grows, gains acceptance in mainstream extreme sports..
I can’t believe how anyone could see the bad in this. Hell this is better coverage than the aragon report that just showed him jumping. Haters bringing this sport down..grow up and think of the big picture and get over yourself.
October 4th, 2008 at 12:45 am
Glad people get to glimpse into what they lost in the Xgames….
October 4th, 2008 at 1:27 am
“Woah! Shawn Martin just flipped, slid and soared his way into my heart!” ha ha ha ha
October 4th, 2008 at 1:44 am
gotta agree with dooby and wtf
this was not made for rollerbladers, it was made for little kids n their parents to get them intrested in our sport!
any kid who watched that is gonna think its cooler than pushin wood. this was the best publicity i’ve seen for the sport in many years.
if the station got 2000 emails alredy thats prolly more than all the rollerbladers on rollernews
October 4th, 2008 at 4:58 am
reppin philly and rolling is good but i mean, of all our boys in philly they pic sean, nobody likes that kid. but by far its better then nothing
October 4th, 2008 at 5:07 am
fuck that fuck you and fuck the haters, the kid gets props and i think he can fucking do whatever the fuck he wants. he should soar and crap on anyone and everyone who gets in his way. good job kid you just made the fucking 10 oclock news. keep up the skating and dont listen to anyone but yourself and what works for you especially if it includes strapping on your blades and showing the world what it is.
October 4th, 2008 at 6:23 am
I 2nd fiddy:
I swear man whoever edited that is an idiot. News producers are some of the shittiest editors ever. his skating in that segment could have looked 10 times better, shitty camera man.
October 4th, 2008 at 6:53 am
Who ever hates on this is an idiot. This type of promo is exactly the thing that is missing in the Industry.. In fact I don’t even consider this and the Industry in the same field because obviously none of you idiot care that some kids from Philly got your asses on TV and positively. I hate this Industry and its stupid laws of how that segment should have been edited right or that should have been Jon Jon. Fuck that. Go out and get you finger out of your asses and your head outside of this stupid box and see that their is more to rollerblading that doing the baddest ass stunt and being a pot smoking, beer chugging son of a bitch who wants to bitch about everything. As soon as you do that you will see the change that everyone wants to see. Sorry I Have to say it but…….. JUST DO IT….
October 4th, 2008 at 7:30 am
That boy is sick.Looks like rollerblading coming back faster and faster
October 4th, 2008 at 8:16 am
This is good stuff and to anyone who is hating on this might as well just pick up a skateboard then. What I want to know is where are all the pros out there? They should be trying to get rollerblading noticed more. B-Unique is a perfect example. They are right down the street from 106 and Park and the MTV studio in NYC. Find a way to get our shit on the air or something. B-Unique is supposedly cool with Jim Jones, well talk to him about putting ya’ll in his next music video. Anything. Any exposure is good exposure. Not just B-Unique but anyone. Maybe some of ya’ll have tried but you can always do more. Im mean fuck, I go out and skate in heavily populated areas (malls with skateparks), or something near a busy street or I drive over to a high school when the kids are getting ready to get out just so that more people see us. You don’t always have to roll in big groups. If no one else can roll go by yourself. Stand up for what you do and don’t be afraid of skating at a park filled with skateboarders too.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:40 am
Great work Shawn, People should look up to you. Keep it up
RV
October 4th, 2008 at 2:01 pm
let him dream to be what he wants but the chances that hell make it past girls highschool drugs partys work kids are slim but if he prevails then he deserves it an noone should knock him unless they can offer more to the industry
October 4th, 2008 at 2:11 pm
Yo! Fuck that kid! A lot of people don’t see the real shawn martin…I mean yeah he can do a backflip and spin (in a park) But the kid thinks he’s the shit and thinks he has street cred for skating handicap rails with a kicker, and gets his dad to film him and then he tries to edit out the ramp so you “can’t tell” it was there. Plus the kid’s a douche to everyone.
Don’t get me wrong, he’s great for his age. But the kid needs to learn some lessons. Plus Wake’s the shit and i’d rather see him skate without any TV spots and still whip shawn in any real comp.
October 4th, 2008 at 3:44 pm
Well…she says at the end how to submit anyone you know to the news station. If you think you should be on tv, then submit your email. It’s only for kids that are doing something positive
im not hating anyway, i think its good that hes on tv, but anyone who gets paid to go to woodward all the time is gona get goood fast, + im from scotland like i could get on tv paha
October 4th, 2008 at 3:48 pm
Seems like a nice kid that just likes to skate. It’s a good thing to have rollerblading shown to the masses no matter how they portray us because the most important thing is to get more kids to skate. Even if rollerblading went mainstream, it would never change what rollerblading is, f’ing nuts.
October 4th, 2008 at 6:53 pm
i think it’s great publicity…
crappy footage.. but cool for him,
and hopefully good for the industry..
congrats with the bronze!
and amen to what dominic said!
October 4th, 2008 at 7:08 pm
Sucks
October 4th, 2008 at 8:41 pm
it looks like this was local TV in Philly. why not do this in every city? email ur locat TV stations and see if they will do something on rollerblading. Even the haters could do that.
we dont get any publicity anymore, so why not try the local news?
oh, nd i thought this was great, we just need more of it. in U.S. and overseas. the little kid did good.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
Please don’t take this the wrong way, but back in the day, news clips like these were quite common. Now they are front page of Rollernews because we don’t get any publicity anymore.
What are the rollerblade companies doing to get publicity like this? What are the sponsors doing to get publicity for their Pros? If a 10 year old gets something like this, why can’t any of us?
Maybe this will be the kick in the ass needed to finally do something.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:44 pm
who care if he not that good
rollerblading need as much publicity as it can get
rollernblading has went under ground
October 4th, 2008 at 9:45 pm
i ment who care’s if he is not thats good
October 5th, 2008 at 2:22 am
im with oldschool skater sometimes it feels like the main companies dont do a damn thing to help out in the field of publicity. Good stuff though Shawn id be psyched if i was on the news for blading or as you call it aggressive inline skating.
Whats with that anyway i thought everyone was onboard with rollerblading.
Ive had serious thoughts about that being a factor in the popularity of what we do. think about it for real. it seems pretty stupid at first but honestly we dont have a solid name and i think some of the guys behind the scenes know or think that and that explains freestyle rolling. i respect those guys for tryin to do what they did but im not gonna call it that anytime soon that name sounds borderline narcissistic like a no other sport can even compare type of vibe. but anyway yea good stuff wouldve been cool if this was on big boy nbc but fat chance given the election
October 5th, 2008 at 5:06 am
ok wello i skated with this kid like 4 times hese rilly not that good lol hes just at every contess its like a reword for the kd to not sy you are going no were rilly the only thing this kid can do is a sould step on and a 540 lol but he does thow same trick with shity style on huge stuff thats why he got this
October 5th, 2008 at 11:19 am
nice !
October 5th, 2008 at 2:06 pm
At least he didn’t get “Alex Broskoe” Extreme Skateboarder. :-)
October 5th, 2008 at 8:10 pm
Why dont you haters undestand that this was meant for parents and kids to watch. Thats exactly how our sport will grow, NUMBERS, more people starting skating, especially young kids. If you showed Chris Haffey, parents would probably not even want to buy their kids skates, just cause of how freakin DANGEROUS it would look if those were haffey tricks. Especiallly if it was street skating. We need something that the little guys and their parents can relate to if we want or NUMBERS and industry to grow.
All the haters are angry about is the fact that that edit didnt make them seem COOLER tot heir peers and society. Haters dont want the sport to grow, they just want outsiders to be all like: Look how cool those bladers are. Haters are prob tired of skateboarders and jocks taking their girlfriends so they need TV coverage to show Pro, so can say, yeah I do that, Im COOL. But we dot need edits that appeal to skaters, thats what videos are for. We need TV coverage to help get new people and parents into our sport. Thats how snow and skateboarding got so huge.
October 5th, 2008 at 8:18 pm
youre so right Larry. That was perfect for little kids and parents to get stoked on blading. Im not saying Pro contests shouldnt be on TV, but for a local news spot that edit can change young kids looking into gowing to the skatepark to maybe try blading instead of boarding or biking. It good that kid is only twelve cause groms his age can look at him and go, whoa, I can be doing flips and grinds instead of just putting around on this skateboard
October 5th, 2008 at 10:37 pm
to all the haters: At least hes not skateboarding.
October 6th, 2008 at 8:22 am
u hating on a 12 year old kid how immature can you get,hes getting the little kids into this sport which equals more talent more money for companies ect shawn is sick he gets better everytime i see him i sk8 with him 1nce in a while hes sick but theres always gunna be haters
October 6th, 2008 at 4:15 pm
cutting this Shawn cat down for being a “douche” or “not that good” is douchebag behavior where I come from. you think he’s not worthy of the coverage because there are better skaters than him? you well and truly missed the whole point of the story. Either way, pretty sick for any 12yr olds. Good on him for making the most of his opportunities. Some have got it good, some have got it better. Wish I could go to Woodward but I’ll be happy for him, better than being jealous.
October 6th, 2008 at 8:56 pm
hell yeah shawn
October 6th, 2008 at 10:06 pm
and stop hatin shawns the shit you pussy bitches
October 7th, 2008 at 2:59 pm
For anyone that said “I skated with Shawn and he isn’t that good, and he’s mean to people” I completely doubt that you actually skated with him or met him. He’s one of the nicest people I know. And he is a really good skater, so I don’t know what you’re talking about. Maybe jealousy? I don’t know.
Anyways, good job Shawn. I bet you’ll have some more skaters in your area now because of this :)
Looking forward to skating with you again soon.
November 16th, 2008 at 4:44 am
I have met Shawn Martin and he is a complete tool.
But good publicity.
Goog story and stuff just not the right person to do it about.
