Anti Rollerblading Commercial for Dos Eques Beer:
Dos Equis is a imported Mexican beer that is available in Texas and other western states in the USA. They have a new ad campaign (check this one) that features “The Most Interesting Man in the World” who is a middle aged, upper class Latino man. The commercials were pretty funny and the beer itself is quite tasty with a lime, but the newest commercial is a low blow to the rollerblading subculture.
Why is this news worthy? Because it shows the ignorance that the majority of people have in my country towards rollerblading. The average guy doesn’t know squat about what we do, so this commercial is intended to poke fun at the “boardwalk bladers” in Cali, or the Spandex wearing, cone dodging bladers in every metro area. Either that or the head of the ad agency that does these spots for Dos Equis is a hate mongering skateboarder who thinks he is “cutting edge”.
It’s time to stop taking shit like this lying down. Make comedy back by making a funny video and posting it as a response on youtube.com. Or better yet send a sponser me tape to Dos Equis. This aint 1996 anymore, and the oldest guys in our sport aren’t 13 anymore. Time to take a stand.

To be fair i think these fuckers are going to LOVE the extra promotion a bunch of moaning rollerbladers are going to give them by complaining and posting responses, lucky for them they have it on front page of another website meaning a load more of views, anti-rollebladers are gonna think that all the rollerbladers complaining is funny and are gonna feel it. I dont know, rollerblading is a very wide thing, and the amound of people i see skating down the beaches in hot pants and sunglasses make me think “no” most of the time too, haha.
But yeh, it makes me mad, but theres nothing much we can do about it except accept it and believe in ourselves. Positive promotion is a better way to go, or constructive criticism of their shitty drink.

hahahaah that was pretty funny i dont understand why were suppose to fight this. i think it could get worse if any rollerblader replied to it. What can you say about this that hasnt already been said. We got screwed over as a sport in the past 10 years ( in the beginning it was straight but too much too soon) im talking about in America for the past 10. Think about how many times youve seen or heard skateboarding referenced in a positive light in tv or movies and thats a big chunk of the culture. And how many times rollerblading has been referenced in a negative light its pretty fucked up to think about but very very truehow things are and have been in this country. its literally like everytime something good said about skateboarding something bad is said about rollerblading and to truly believe that skateboarding is a holier than thou sport and deserves all or most the attention and exposure is total BS. The two are practically one in the same and to believe that skateboarding is just flat out better is ignorant and people show their ignorance when they stick to their guns on this like for instance on R.I.P. Skate Park Section most popular blade video on utube it says: I Can Skateboard And Inline. Inline Is Ok But Skateboarding Is Alot Harder. I agree with the commentary that we should lobby and FIGHT BACK… I remember when I first started skating in 1996 era… it seemed like what kept the pot STIRRING and BOILING was the Rollerblader vs Skateboarding Hate DEBATE. There were EQUALLY 40 BLADERS AND 40 SKATEBOARDERS in my smallass town!!!! Fast forward a little bit… once rollerbladers (our type of rollerblading) couldn’t back the shit up we did on a corporate level we gradually fell off from the mainstream… If anyone sees the real crazy shit we do, they will probably shut their damn faces.
P.S. I showed 3 girls the other day the new RAZORS TEAM video because I”m sure they were COMPLETELY CLUELESS about what we do. Before they were all like, “WE CAN ROLLERBLADE, it’s Easy…” ONCE they saw the video they were all screaming and crying about how crazy it was… YEA, we just need the plain ole’ EXPOSURE. ALSO, YOU CAN’T COMPARE ROLLERBLADING WITH SKATEBOARDING, BMX’N OR GOLF… THAT’S LIKE COMPARING BEING A MATH TEACHER VS A SCIENCE TEACHER!!! TOTALLY DIFFERENT THINGS!

holy shit people, chill out. its really not a big deal and theres no reason to spam them. if you like what youre doing then keep doing it, an 18 second commercial with one word really isnt going to hurt anyone. there was a whole skit saying how rollerblading is gay, sure people thought it was funny but its not like everyone is going to judge you when youre doing cool shit just because they saw something on tv. give it a break. the real way to prove to people that rollerblading is legit is by actually doing it… not by battling with comments on youtube or spamming people. that probably does more bad than good.

yo for all the people on here who wrote “this isnt a real ad” or “who cares” it def is a real ad, i saw it twice in one commercial break and as to people who say who cares, well your right the ad is not that funny or making a great joke so why care? well everyone one of my friends who respect and do not rollerblading thinks its the funniest shit ever, like it sums up there thoughts and feelings on rollerblading. every skateboarder i know is like “OH man did you see that ad!?!?” “I see it all the time hahaha” and asks me about it and shit.
so i guess yea its not worth complaing cause like 50+ if that response emails from complaining rollerbladers there not gonna give a shit. maybe theyll even make another one making fun of rollerblading. all i say is just do your shit and keep it tight. make it so if someone who saw that commercial and laughs at saw you blading they would change thier mind. make blading look tight in control and gnarley.

I didnt watch it but theres a different Ad in Australia taking the piss out of rollerbladers. It came out a while ago though… so maybe that ‘cutting edge advertiser’ got it from the ad here (which was funny btw). Haha but seriously who fucking cares. It doesn’t affect you having fun while you skate.
