Lil’ Tony’s Streetgrip Tutorial:

The StreetGrip: Every time you see a camera guy in skate videos, you see that they have really nice cameras (XL or GL whatevers). Well, I don’t, and don’t have the money to get one.

One of the biggest practical differences between their cams and my JVC generic is the handle on top. That would make filming all kinds of things SO much easier.

    dumbass Chadwick, gl-s suck realise it. There is no point to buy a 3ccd nowadays, its all going to High-Definition. And size of the camera doesn’t mean its cheapness, for example Panasonic gs500 and Canon gl1 have the same chip sizes, but gl1 just is more pro-looking camera that’s why some 14 year old rollerbladers buy it- they want to look cool :).

    ^what that dude said is correct in a sense. learn about cameras before going out and buying the “new hot shit”

    Just because a video camera has three CCD’s (or CMOS) does not mean it is not high-definition. There are one-CCD and three-CCD cameras in both SD and HD.

    The Panasonic GS500 has smaller chips and significantly fewer manual controls than a Canon GL1.

    Canon GL1′s and 2′s are good cameras but Sonys are generally a little sturdier, less problematic (my friend has a GL2 that’s gone back in for random stupid problems four or five times), and better in low light, though, so they’re generally a little better-suited and thus more popular for skate filming.

    Past a certain bare minimum level of quality and controls, no matter what camera you get, what matters is that you know how to use it. Of course there are lots of skaters buying pro-looking camcorders just for the status but there are also lots of skaters buying them because they can use and appreciate their benefits. Don’t assume that just because someone is young and has a fancy camera, they don’t know how to use it.

    The HD label is wrongly used a lot, for example barely dead was labeled HD DVD, but i think this is only related to the fact that the camera was HD.

    The real HD is related to the resolution of the image on the Dvd (and tv) ; barely dead was standard dvd which is 720×576. Real hd images are :

    * 720p – 1280×720 pixels progressive
    * 1080i – 1920×1080 pixels interlaced
    * 1080p – 1920×1080 pixels progressive

    Barely Dead Came with 2 DVDs David, a standard definition disc and a HD disc…. But you had to have a HD DVD and TV to get the full spectrum of resolution. And if you play the HD disc on a computer you would be able to view it in HD if your monitor supports 1080i. So Barely Dead was filmed in HD and Film, and there was 2 disc viewing options.

    haha, i thought the whole point of the news was the handle. No one cares about your knowledge of cameras lol. But tight ass handle. i made one 2 years ago outta pvc pipe
