M1 Urethane: Flow Contest
The New Wheels just hit all the stores, so it is time to begin the dlow contest.
Rules:
- Show us either the New Aragon or Morales wheels to start the edit.
- Tell us and everyone else what you think of them.
- Then Kill Shit for 30 seconds.
- Post your edit on here or vimeo.
- The edit has to be in by the last day of January.
We will be announcing a winner on the 1st of February and they will be selected by our team riders. The winner will receive one year of receiving free product.
Now, I will let this be said, our focus for this year is our flow program. We are going to grow it. So we might not pick just one rider it could be 2,3, or 10… WHO KNOWS!
This being such an AM driven contest I thought it best to start the contest with an edit of the guys I skate with and not one of our pro riders. Their edits will be showing up through the contest though. You will see all the boys for Jacksonville in here. You will have Wild Bill, Andrew, Gumby, Wyatt and a few more of my boys along with cameos of your favorite crew from SANTEE with some of the antics!
Good Luck! We cant wait to see your edits and what you think of the new products.
Thanks,
Franky and Wally.

what, so i have to buy M1 wheels to show for in the edit?
December 21st, 2008 at 1:53 pm
Rationally speaking, the M1 competition is cool but above all it is a MARKETING GIMMICK and I think it’s only fair that fact is made extremely clear.
I’m not trying to discourage the contest at all by putting it like that, but only encouraging some objective rationality to generally always be exercised for those who don’t see the whole picture.
The story is: M1 clearly came into the scene with an absolute terrible product. No grand entrance despite the team. They introduced themselves by establishing a negative connotation to their name and I can’t imagine it didn’t hurt. Now they have to cover ground, and so they claim now to have “the best wheels ever” and a new lofty price tag to attempt to lend credibility to the claim. (Leveraging cognitive dissonance a bit IMO). It may be true, and we’ll definitely see… but true or not They also desperately need people to give them a 2nd chance for failing where others have managed to succeed in a more-than-likely very saturated market. *
Think about this too, you get wheels for a year… pure benefit to you, but let’s ask what is M1 really putting into it? They give you free wheels every month for a year, that’s 12 sets, and it’s easily to assume there will be 12 people entering the competition. M1 isn’t actually being charitable or taking anything out of their pocket. It’s basically a lotto; the never goes broke giving away money, because it banks on peoples greed. And then there’s hoping favoritism doesn’t enter the picture.
Of course, this isn’t entirely disadvantageous to the skater, but it is certainly only MODERATELY advantageous in comparison to the company itself. Putting mandatory a price tag on the competition is at the very least tacky. Rather than entire encouraging the skater, what they are really doing is (a bit sneakily) encouraging people, above all, to BUY THEIR PRODUCT. Back to the thesis… marketing gimmick, no?
It’s the duality of the contest, sneaky pseudo-charitability. Clever though.
As a disclaimer: I haven’t talked to anyone from M1 so I don’t know their agenda… if they’re sincerely trying to help or laughing in your faces for conceiving a brilliant scheme. I’m not trying to be speculative, but I think what I’ve said here is pretty valid none-the-less.
(* Senate didn’t manage to pull this off even when they moved from their “spiked-core for superior delamination” to the last batch which were actually good. It was simply too little too late and the companies that deserved to be rewarded for succeeding where Senate failed did, and I think it was only fair survival of the fittest. Not that I’m wishing it on them but M1 might be in that boat right now.)

Was that Michael “Gumby” Braud with some clips towards the middle of the edit?
And iicents:
You’re not impressing anyone. If you’re going to make a post that lengthy, then the least you can do is check for grammatical errors.

awesome edit
December 21st, 2008 at 10:41 pm
At least M1 isn’t owned by a skateboarder.
December 22nd, 2008 at 1:38 am
Chill, it’s the internet. If RN didn’t want thought-out posts they could limit the post to 10 chars and we could all just say “o kewl”. All I’m saying is I came to realize this is a really smart advertising campaign above all. Think about it: You’re paying them to generate advertising for them and nothing comes out of their pocket. That’s all I’m pointing out. If anyone feels personally insulted by the post (even though you really shouldnt) just go buy a bunch of M1 wheels and you’re actually doing something about it
December 22nd, 2008 at 6:03 am
damn iicents, lay off the crapy stress weed, ur too paranoid. probably didnt have enough room to mention the government and aliens involved in the M1 conspiracy theory
December 22nd, 2008 at 9:07 am
i think this is a great way for people to show what they got.
so stfu iicents, i cant even be fucked reading your whole comment.
December 22nd, 2008 at 9:13 am
well ok fine i respect your opinion… but yeh dont really agree.
December 22nd, 2008 at 7:33 pm
I have to say, I am rather disappointed that one of the only intelligent, thoughtful posts on rollernews is being attacked by comments such as “lay off the stress weed” and “your a lil fuckin bitch.” If you lack the intellect to respond adequately to a perceptive response please do readers a favor and keep your comments to yourself.
And as to M1 not being owned by a skateboarder, does that change the fact that Eulogy consistently pours some of the most durable wheels on the market and M1’s originals where terrible? Besides, despite the fact that Eulogy is a branch of Powell, it is run and operated by a very dedicated rollerblader who consistently sponsors skaters and injects money into our industry. I personally would rather spend my dollars on a decent product, not a cheap gimmick which might land me a flow sponsorship for a year.
December 22nd, 2008 at 7:54 pm
I’m with iicents and T.
Fed up of ppl hu typ wurds lik this 2 mke it shrtr.
Just because someone doesn’t talk in text speak like a 4-year old child, he gets slated. I don’t get it.
Can almost guarantee a “stfu n00b” post after this.
Same way people type “Farmer’s shit now” just because he’s incorporating more objects into his rolling and the size of his clothes has changed.
If people are going to make comments at all, they should at least attempt to type properly and not go “omg ur so gay fag” just because some of us actually know how to type. and to think.
December 22nd, 2008 at 8:21 pm
pfft i wouldnt want to pay 20-25 just to make a 45 sec edit which im not guaranteed a good strong sponsorship.
December 22nd, 2008 at 8:45 pm
Guaranteed if Eulogy was skater owned it would INJECT a lot more financially than it currently does. I’m sure the Nazis made some really DECENT high end products. You think that money didn’t go towards buying the gas for the chambers. Getting a little support isn’t cutting it.
December 22nd, 2008 at 10:07 pm
Why do you suggest that if Eulogy was not Powell owned it would have more money to spend on rollerblading? If it were not for their connection to Skate One, they would not be able to reach economies of scale (which very few rollerblading companies do), would have less money period, which in turn would mean fewer dollars to spend on promotion, research, and development. Besides, Eulogy is entirely skater run, Skate One does little more than supply the urethane. They are not a company which folded after two years in business; they have been in this industry for years, consistently offering quality products, sponsoring riders, producing videos, advertising in magazines, and recognizing amateurs from across the nation. And I am not even going to begin to attempt to address a statement as asinine as comparing Nazism with corporate partnerships.
December 23rd, 2008 at 2:59 am
The reason that rollerblading companies can’t reach the economic (economies of) scale you speak of is because of idiots like you who don’t support the core base. With your support the skater owned companies like M1 will be able to pour money into R&D and further urethane development. Of course Powell makes great inline wheels, but why not give these guys a chance to evolve the sport. Didn’t Blood wheels fold after two years….thas was a POWELL company. The end result is always the same, and sadly you can’t see the big picture. Given the chance, I believe that skater owned companies will push forward with design and image, breaking a sad cycle that started with Arlo selling out during the Senate era. Your stuck in a rut old man, and if you actually skated you would feel the fascism bred by companies like Skate One and spend your money somewhere else.
December 23rd, 2008 at 3:23 am
stfu i know the owner hes rilly cool they are people that have fun with skateing and dont take it serusly like you
December 23rd, 2008 at 3:55 am
WOW, I AM ACTUALLY NOT TAKEN BACK BY THE PARAGRAPHS OF CRAP YOU TYPED IN HERE. YOUR THE PROBLEM WITH ROLLERBLADING ! I HAVE BEEN SKATING FOR A LONG, LONG TIME. M1 WHEELS ARE GOOD, AND I HAVE ACTUALLY HAD THE PLEASURE OF RIDING THEM FOR A MINUTE NOW. I CAN BE A TESTAMENT TO THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE POUR AND DURABILITY OF DAMN NEAR EVER WHEEL THEY HAVE MADE. WHOS TO SAY THAT A CONTEST IS A GIMMICK. I AM SURE THAT THERE ARE PLENTY, AND I MEAN PLENTY OF YOUNG SKATERS OUT IN THIS WORLD THAT WANT A SHOT AT SOME COVERAGE AND SOME COOL WHEELS. HOW CAN A SPORT GROW IF PEOPLE LIKE YOU DO NOT ALLOW IT. YOUR SAD PATHETIC ATTEMPT TO DISCOURAGE GENERATIONS OF ROLLERBLADERS IS AN EXCELLENT EXAMPLE OF WHAT NOT TO DO. WISDOM IS SOMETHING YOUV’E YET TO ATTAIN, AND FRANKLY IF YOU KEEP IT UP THAT DAY WILL NEVER COME. IF ANYONE CARES ABOUT OUR SPORT AND YOUR LIVES THEN DISREGARD THIS MANS RANT. THIS PERSON IS NOT A LEADER ! OF ALL THE THINGS SKATING HAS GIVEN ME, SKATING NEVER ONCE TOOK ANYTHING ! YOU CALL THE CONTEST A GIMMICK OF GREED, I CALL YOUR SPEECH A RUN-ON. LEARN HOW TO WRITE. YOUR DEFINITION OF SUCCESS CAN BE FOUND AT THE BOTTOM OF MOST TOILETS. PEOPLE, SEND YOUR EDITS, HAVE YOUR FUN, AND KEEP SKATING ALIVE. A SKATER OWNED WHEEL COMPANY SPEAKS FOR ITSELF. IF MY MONEY GOES TO A ROLLERBLADER AND NOT A CORPORATION WITH NO CONCERN FOR US, THEN THAT IS FINE BY ME. ROLL ON !
December 23rd, 2008 at 7:28 am
I’m not entirely sure who each person is addressing in their post but let me say this: I am not discouraging supporting M1 or purchasing their products, and I have been rollerblading for about ten years and have constantly supported our industry by buying skates, clothes, parts, videos, magazines, and other roller owned merchandise. My point is simply that Eulogy, despite being part of Powell, DOES care for us, IS run by rollerbladers, and DOES put money back into this industry. Read my posts carefully before stating that such choices do not allow rollerblading to grow.

“Rules: 1. Show us either the New Aragon or Morales wheels to start the edit.”
“So we might not pick just one rider it could be 2,3, or 10… WHO KNOWS!”
Run on kids dreams for making money. Thats all. If you really care about rollerblading, you would not make that fucking rule.
If you want to sell a lot, make a good product ( & bladers will make your advertisement by themselves ), not hidden shitty advertisement
December 23rd, 2008 at 10:23 pm
Well, one would think that if a person who rolls M1 wheels, and enjoys them would want to get flow from them. Thats the point in participating in the contest. Why bring Eulogy into an event that has nothing to do with their wheels. I could bring up FR, but it is irrelevant. I was addressing what iicents had to say in the first place. This tit for tat is juvenile. Positive reinforcement is how things get done. If anyone has anything negative to say, please keep it to yourself. Negativity is an emotion driven by failure. For me and many others that is not an option. Hope for the future we all want for rollerblading, our culture and the community we all play a part in. If we all stay positive, we will succeed. Success will come in far greater things than flow sponsorship for a year from M1.
December 23rd, 2008 at 11:57 pm
obviously its a marketing gimic. but they are a company, they need to make money, since when is that a crime. Having this contest is the same idea as having a christmas time sale or whatever to bring in more customers so that your profit will oversee your investment. Its a clever idea on their part to stir the pot a little and get some friendly competition. Im all for it, some of you guys need to chill out.
December 24th, 2008 at 2:48 am
i chill out a lot ahaha.competition isn’t the problem.
Simply, i just say that using what kids dream of for making money isnt really good in general.
i dont remember in other sponsored contest like razors box edit that you must show you wear this brand.
I wish rollerblading can grow beyond the worst weapon that white men built
December 24th, 2008 at 6:12 am
