M1 Urethane Contest Winner: Austin Morell

We would like to welcome our newest flow rider Austin Morell. Peep his edit one more time and give him some props.
I want to also mention that if the rules would have been followed by a few riders for this contest the outcome would have been different.
The New Damien wheel is going to be released in the next couple of weeks and we are going to be doing a similar contest for that so get ready. We will also be doing the UK flow contest soon after.

Why was this contest gay?
This kid is sick, and has not put his profile on rollernews because
he wanted comments about the contest, you stupid fuck!
February 6th, 2009 at 7:45 pm
WTF ?
15 years old ?
When I was 15 (12 years ago), I couldn’t do 1/1000 of that…
February 6th, 2009 at 7:55 pm
Sick skating, i just feel sorry for him. Why would m1 make the statement –
“if the rules would have been followed by a few riders for this contest the outcome would have been different”
talk about knocking you back, why make that comment.

in other words… TYLER would have won if he would have shown the wheels =)

well done man! he deserves it, an amazing skater and yet only 15 years of age!
February 6th, 2009 at 8:32 pm
better skaters out there. 15 years old, hasnt even paid his dues yet. We’ll see how long he’ll stick with skating for that matter. I hope he represents well.
February 6th, 2009 at 8:39 pm
This dude is really good though….I had him behind Hester.
Hester is a beast.
February 6th, 2009 at 8:49 pm

February 6th, 2009 at 8:59 pm
15 yrs old?! This guy is already bad ass!
February 6th, 2009 at 9:09 pm
pow! enjoyable skating to watch, well deserved!
February 6th, 2009 at 9:33 pm
this kid has more potential than anyone just because hes so young and already so good. im happy they did it right instead of letting lazy people who dont feel like they have to follow the rules win
February 6th, 2009 at 10:15 pm
15 years old!!!!thats messed up.well done!
February 6th, 2009 at 10:29 pm
i entered this contest, obviously didn’t win. This kid is killer dont get me wrong. But it seems kinda like M1 scamed us because notice they chose ONE kid from Florida? I mean if they sereously wanted there company to sell more wouldnt they want one or 2 kids in every region? I mean these wheels are pretty nice dont get me wrong but… i feel like ive been scammed. i think im gonna call M1 scam1 now.
I’m not mad that i didnt make the team i kinda already knew i wouldn’t make it.
February 6th, 2009 at 10:37 pm
song plzzzz !!!!!!!!
February 6th, 2009 at 10:45 pm
WOW. LOL. i heard from a couple good sources that he was already on flow before the contest… wtf m1. really? i heard he just entered for fun. his edit was good, but how about they sponser someone thats not already sponsered by them? also they should try and branch out of FL.
February 6th, 2009 at 10:53 pm
M1 just sold over 10 pairs of wheels by getting people to submit these edits.
February 6th, 2009 at 10:58 pm
Way to not pick the best skater.
That’s kind of messed up to say that he only won by disqualification.
Ooooh well.
February 6th, 2009 at 11:01 pm
Well deserved!!!
February 7th, 2009 at 12:06 am
sound to me M1 want’s skaters who can do what R knight did for B Unique . not just use the brand but sell it . it’s great to have skills but even as good to have the ability sell your good’s make sure you fallow directions people ….gees slackers
February 7th, 2009 at 12:58 am
VOSSOUGHI!!!!!!!!!!!!
February 7th, 2009 at 1:32 am

“better skaters out there. 15 years old, hasnt even paid his dues yet. We’ll see how long he’ll stick with skating for that matter. I hope he represents well.”- eddie
fuck that, any1 who can 360 acid a handrail has already payed their dues and then some.
kid had a sick edit, and he definatley deserverd to win.
February 7th, 2009 at 2:21 am
What’s the name of the song???
February 7th, 2009 at 2:32 am
Ok found it Jay Z – Brookly (Rock Hard) :D :D 360 Acid sold me. But indeed I agree. M1 stating what it stated about those people who did not adhere to the rules was not a really nice thing to say. Furthermore, I hope that he really wasn’t riding for M1 already or that the fact he’s in FL doesn’t mean that that’s the only reason he was selected. But it was sick to look at nonetheless.
I wanna see more from this kid.
February 7th, 2009 at 3:22 am
Don’t you guys realize companies only do this to sell products?
February 7th, 2009 at 3:53 am
i heard from a little bird that they actually picked up a couple of the other dudes who entered, but didnt show the wheels…. truth…. watch….
February 7th, 2009 at 4:02 am
all i hear is the sound of crying. it sounds like this “waaaaaahhhhhhhhhh… wahhhhhhhhhh…. i entered the contest….waaaahhhh wahhhhhhh… im not sponsored… waaaaaah… we got ripped off….. wwaaaaaah”. Its annoying hey? thats exactly how you sound.
February 7th, 2009 at 4:22 am
Almost sounds like he’s saying his name is “Awesome Morell”!
February 7th, 2009 at 5:03 am
this contest was definately a fail!!!! and I WONDER WHY THEY CHOSE HIM…… who were the judges again… aragon
February 7th, 2009 at 5:22 am
Dizzy…for the most part you are right but thats what companies do! At least successful ones anyway. We all know the basis of it is to boost their sales but at least their doing something. Too many skate companies don’t do any advertising and most of those are the ones that don’t end up sticking around. Props to M1 and everyone who participated.
February 7th, 2009 at 8:48 am
this is bull shit, Tyler Hesler had this contest hands down, so stop being in favor of skating buddies and really support the sport by giving opportunities to skaters that are willing to push the sport and represent rollerblading with a good image.
Tyler is not only a friend, but a fantastic skater, person and a good kid that is not o0ut there getting in trouble and doing drugs like a lot of skaters out there, “if the hat fits please wear it”.
stay tune because you will see more of Tyler in a near future rolling on his new pro frames and more to come.
regards
February 7th, 2009 at 9:08 am
Tyler didn’t follow the rules, first you have to buy some crap, and then you have to skate that same crap, (and be from Miami) before they will say hey, your an AM now.
This is a joke, your wheels are still a joke, and i’m sticking by that one. I’ll enter the Damian contest just to prove your wheels are the same shit as they have ever been, just different colors.
February 7th, 2009 at 9:38 am
tyler won it
February 7th, 2009 at 9:46 am
so, i hear tyler won it as well? and to be completely honest, it sounds like youre all calling him out on a technicality only because your edits couldnt compare with his level of skating. so he didnt show the wheel, you know what that means? it means he was the only one of you who didnt get duped into doing free advertising for M1. and if M1 wants to sell more wheels, the need a respectable team so they probably wouldt disregard an amazing skater because of something so small.
and im not saying the other edits didnt compare to his level of skating. Nico’s was good and so was Morell’s.
February 7th, 2009 at 11:53 am
who cares M1 are shit anyway.
if it was 4×4 it would be a different matter.
yeh sure he can skate rails.
but rails are so fucking boring.
yeh 4/5 switch ups blah blah like every one else.
ledges, gaps, creative stuff FTW
same old switch ups on rails ->
February 7th, 2009 at 12:06 pm
fucking hell
never in my life have i seen so much gay writing
your all whiney little btches.
so what if hes from florida?
he followed the rules + he has massive potential.
thats the clever move if you ask me on m1s part
you know this kid is going to progress massivly.
so please
stop with your whining.
February 7th, 2009 at 12:52 pm
song plssssss

jayz ft santogold – brooklyn we go hard
February 7th, 2009 at 5:01 pm
Very steezy 3 acid Austin! Congrats!
February 8th, 2009 at 2:38 am
Age has nothing to do with paying do’s. Im 16 and not the best skater but i have most people in their twenties beat on paying do’s i have been skating for 9 years. Most people in their twenties haven’t skated long then 4 years. So stfu on paying do’s and this kid deserves it if he is lacing those tricks that isn’t a skill that is instant that is practice so i think he payed his do’s with the hours he has while practicing
February 8th, 2009 at 3:12 am
dude, did you broke something on that handrail ? :( nice air trix :)
February 8th, 2009 at 4:49 am
i’m to hear the news.
DS9 to stay
February 8th, 2009 at 5:03 am
Way to be an dick wally, i dont think that statement should have been noted. I think the people know why they didnt win…
February 8th, 2009 at 8:39 am
that was a pretty shitty thing to say but o well over it in reality
he did follow the rules and if he woulda picked tyler or nick or nico or john
that would have been unfair to the people tat did follow the rules
but over all m1 did pick up a few people over all but nuff said
February 8th, 2009 at 11:19 am
Wahahaha people are hating about a FUCKING sick kid (15 years old WTF) who does stuff like 360 acids from handrails?!?!
I can hardly believe what I just saw haha
February 8th, 2009 at 11:14 pm
that was nuthing
February 8th, 2009 at 11:15 pm
o yer and i would of prefered to seen this guy win than that tyler heister dude he is a very boring rollerblader to watch
February 9th, 2009 at 10:03 am
after watching it again i seen him do 3 tricks
acid soul and royal………………… whoop
February 9th, 2009 at 4:29 pm
ian I bet that turns you on that he is 15. lol. Congrats to austin morell.
February 10th, 2009 at 4:25 pm
Hey guys,
If you knew how many phone calls I had to answer from PARENTS and shop owners about making sure that we judged by the rules you would understand why that comment was made. Austin knows I wasn’t stealing his thunder by making the comment we did but it was really a matter of sponsoring 4 guys outside of the guidelines or sponsoring one by the rules and 3 outside of the contest… Things have a way of working out! Did you guys not agree with the decision our whole team made within the rules?
As far as Austin not paying his dues. I have known Austin for a long time. Now he has been riding ramp since he was 4 and skating handrails since he was 5. He has been skating 11 years at 15 years old. He did never ride for M1 before this contest.
Now just to put the word out Damien’s contest is going to be a little different!
Thanks for the support,
Wally
