Lookback: Box Magazine Class of 2000

This week, let’s take a look at the Box Magazine Class of 2000 from the January 2000 issue.

It is interesting to look at the list of names featured and see the different paths their lives have taken.

Every skater on the list has left an impact on skating. Some of them continue to influence the blading universe with their skating or other talents, while others have moved on with their lives or faded into obscurity or infamy. — Ben Rogers

  4. sergio.h Says:

  5. darv Says:

franky morales looks like such an idiot with that hat perched a foot above his head. if you have dreadlocks tied up like that, just dont wear a cap.

interesting to see which ones are still around the scene anyway

  6. karsten larsen Says:

  9. dyed red deshis Says:

  10. Anonymous Says:

    Billy Prislin was so sick

  12. jiffy pop Says:

boschi pope = crack kingpin extraordinaire

  13. deubeul Says:

    oh les gueules

Your comment was a bit too short. Please go back and try again

  14. sean michaelson Says:

Haffey was just starting to comeup at that time.

Haffey, farmer, aragon, broskow etc are all the generation after these guys.

Grew up skating with Radebaugh, pretty cool looking back at that. He definitely deserved more from the industry then he got. Should have at least got a pro wheel. And skower and wysong are 2 of the most slept on pros. Those 2 both should have had multiple pro skates

And Walt Austin is one of the dopest of all time. The end.

  15. sean michaelson Says:

Man, I just counted, only 7 out of the 16 got pro skates.

  16. Anonymous Says:

too bad boschi got put up for slinging that dope

  17. laf Says:

got that issue to hand right here, skower ftw

  18. Murdaaa Says:

  20. chocho Says:

franky looks like a southamerican construction worker

  21. chocho Says:

    6 got pro skates !!!!

  22. Bahahaha Says:

Mike French… bahahahaha! He is the one that bought the crack rocks from Boschi!

  23. www.myspace.com/djwrekshopmusic Says:

Damn I still got this issue. Thanks for posting. Cool to look back on this now.

One and Be-Mag are great don’t get me wrong but nothing will ever compare to Box and Daily Bread. Best (most raw) magazines ever!

  24. amazing Says:

ben rogers always coming thru with the sickest content.

  25. E Estrada Says:

    Free the homie Boschi Pope!!

  26. Alex Says:

So, who fell into infamy other than Boschi?

Shayne Skowers was definitely sick. His section in Amateur was far ahead of its time but he was known to be a pretty hard partier.

Omar Wysong was also just ridiculous. Such a smooth, effortless style.

  27. BK Says:

So… did you guys just lift this from the One site and not even cite your source???

    Hope not.

  28. 2012bladingDIES Says:

    HISTORY for you chitlins

  29. me Says:

thanks for solving the Boschi Pope mystery people… That guy fuckin ripped shit…. i could never figure out what happened to that kid……

  30. Sean Michaelson Says:

    @chocho

    No, definitely 7 not 6

You probably forgot that Walt had a boot only ufs throne. It was really basic looking. just black and gray.

  31. yup Says:

Walt Austin – USD Throne, Abdiel Colberg – USD Throne, Charles Dunkle – Razors, Vinny Minton – 3 Salomons, Franky – Rollerblade and Remz, Dre Powell – Razors, Sagona – Thrones. 7!

  32. drrty Says:

2000 was the twilight of Blading’s profitability right before its plunge into gaydom.

That said, it’s not surprising most of these guys are gone. Those remaining are dedicated and talented, or just never finished high school.
