i will buy it for the Chaz profile.
everything else is a minor bonus.

  2. gav Says:

IOANNIS VOVOS is the man! i’d get it just for that!

  3. blam Says:

are they eve gogin to actuly put anything good in there, every time its the same old profiles with the same old people, there guna fall off if they dont start showing some fresh faces

    WAIST MAN

  4. ????? Says:

what happened to the farmer profile you said you have?

  5. steve Says:

    needs to be cheaper !
£4.50 is jokes to be honest. Loads of people will agree !

  6. portas Says:

If we are being honest for the content this magazine is way too expensive.
I only own one issue and can honestly say that nothing in the magazine got me excited. The Chaz profile is a positive step though. dont get me wrong Iaonnis seems a nice bloke but this magazine is almost as guilty as DNA for never leaving London.

  7. putas Says:

    i am a whinging cunt

  8. dan bond Says:

Isn’t it based in Brighton? I think part of the issue, like Unity, DNA, and freenation, is that there arn’t many good photographers, honestly and objectively speaking. In fact, theres about 4 in england that can take a print quality photo. This means coverage is limited, unless the photogs travel a lot and i can’t imagine Kingdom pays enough to really warrent that. I have a few issues, i thought it was a solid magazine, but i’m easily pleased. Still, its early days and the heart and soul is in the right place. Plus, kingdom parties are the best.

  9. medli Says:

portas, you sound like a whining old man pissed off coz u haven’t had the “exposure” that you “deserve.”
you’ve had your 2 profiles in unity mate so why don’t you let other people have the limelight?
and you say they never leave london? do you have a clue about where the magazine is even based, or have u even looked in the magazine?
if you’re so eager for you and your “scene” to be in the magazine then get off the internet and go and get some photos or write an article for them.

i’m the same, i have the issue with the al hooi profile from last summer, and i haven’t bought one since. i mind i used to run down the shops every day for weeks until the new unity came in. i only wish i could do something to change my mind, but kingdom just disappoints me.

and medli, where the fuck did you get all that shit from?

  11. blam Says:

basicly unless your from manchester or best buddies wiht kola, you aint never getting a pic or profile, wich is the egsact reason its gogin to fll off, no one whants to see a frazer and chaz profile every week, and its called kingdom mag they hardly featuer any peoepl from the kingdomd,

    ShAME ON ThEM

  12. dan bond Says:

    Profiled bladers so far:

    Hooi
    Schwab
    Shima
    Chilvers
    Chaz sands
    Iannis Vovos

Pretty varied! My only comment would be to only feature brit bladers, but all american profiles are shot in england, so i’m totally ok with that.

  13. steve Says:

    true that blam !
i dont think it is down to the photography skills bond. There are loads of people taking good photos these days. but i do reckon this magazine is a bit ‘click’ and you gotta know the people to get envolved.
To my point i just think the magazine should be like £3. other wise this magazine aint going anywhere, except the floors of nass with 10,000 people walking over it !

  14. Dale Travers Says:

    Hey Guys,

Dan has pretty hit the spot on with the photographers thing. If you take a look at the poeple getting photo’s in the mag, it’s only a small few. The mag really isen’t based in Brighton, Joe lives there and now Oli lives there but its not where the photo’s come from. Kola’s is the main photographer and he lives in Manchester and he has the most photo’s in there and chooses what photo’s will be used in each issue but anyone can submit photo’s from anywhere and might i add, he is very unbias and a really nice guy. Sam Butt is the other main photographer and now he just moved back to South London. There are so many skaters everywhere in each city and really only a few photographers that do shoot print quality photo’s that the guys at the magazine are happy with. They do want to keep a high quality standard for the mag so they only use the best images. I even saw Unity’s quality go down hill in Australia towards the end. It’s doesn’t really matter who’s in the photo, I’ve found it mainly matters if it’s a good quality shot or not.

I’ve personally tried to travel around to alot of places to get shots if i know it’s worth it’s going there. Kingdom don’t pay me for shots yet and i can’t afford to travel everywhere and get shots. If you want to get in the mag, contact Kingdom and see if they can send someone out, or travel to where there’s a photographer and make some time.

As for the O/S profiles, The UK distributors pay money for these guys to come over, They also pay for ad space in the mag. If there paying money for the ad space and money for the pro’s to come over, it’s in the magazines best interest to shoot these guys and get them in the mag cause the sponsers are keeping the magazine running with thier input.

Buy the mag, support your local UK Magazine, then hopefully in the future they will be able to pay Adam Kola enough money to travel around the country and get exposure to those places that have sick skaters doing thier thing in thier own town and ultimatly help build that scene.

    Dale

  15. adam kola Says:

im fiending for new places and people to shoot, make yourselves known, if no-one puts out edits or random photos here n there, or sends in contributions its impossible to know who’s out there blading.
I try my best to get about, but with this place, it nearly always rains any trip i make, especially right now, and if im gonna drive the length of the country its nice to know im gonna get at least 1 photo out of it, thus the reason i usually choose to go shoot with people i know, cause it will come out fruitful. And yes i can be biased, theirs a certain style i like to shoot most, and its a shame there’s not more photographers to cover more areas, but i will pretty much take a photo of anything as i love taking pictures.
but i am team shooting new faces, just gotta make yourself heard, you all complain but then never give any suggestions!

the whole time we have done the mag, besides sam, dale and dan bond, i think i have received about 4 emails of contributions, but these were of very entry level skaters, so obviously not print quality!

    cheers,
    kola

  16. hosker Says:

    kingdom is sick!
its amazing we have a print magazine again and one of real quality!

  17. Al Says:

Stop moaning and do something about it, The magazine covers the people who want to be covered, Even though Kola is the oracle hes not a mind reader. Contact him, hes more than down to travel and shoot a picture of your pretty mug on the 2 a week he gets off from work but instead people are more interested in putting the magazine down rather than helping them out to make it a magazine that the people want to see, or tell me what you want to see and i’ll pass on the idea like its my own. For the picy takers out there, if your going to submit some of your prized work, I hate to break it to you but your 5mb camera phone that your mum got you wont take a good enough picture.

In the end, its our livelyhood, its what hold the british scene together in the most part, granted the older lot couldnt give 2 shits about it any more but the younger generation need what we had when we started out. so cut the lads a bit of slack and support our troops.

    kisses.x

  18. Neary Says:

The fact that there is an UK print magazine is good enough to give Kingdom some support but also Kingdom help contribute and create events for rollerbladers such as their tour and NASS. They also help bring US teams and pros to the UK and then tour them to the spots. They’ve made huge contributions to the UK rolling scene and they also print a pretty good magazine. So instead of hateing them and constantly comparing kingdom to unity how about paying some support so they can create more events, wider coverage and an improved UK scene.

  19. Wrekshop Ryan Says:

I went to London in 1997 and saw some UNITY rollerblading magazine at some corner store and I thought it was the tightest thing ever. Just as good as Daily Bread. Is that magazine around anymore?

  20. portas Says:

medli, I dont need people to come and see “my skate scene” cause most people know who I am and what I can do anyway. I actually want to see good tricks.
Brighton, London. Same difference. Yes I have stated that I own a magazine so do know what it is all about. I am not not condeming the magazine just stating a few facts.

  21. JC Says:

As Al said, we’re not mind readers so if you feel you have something the rolling community should know about, CONTACT US.

Portas. I’m interested to know, what would excite you?

  22. paul Says:

ive never read kingdom before but seeing as Vovos is in this issue i will be getting it for sure!!!!!!

  23. portas Says:

    joe,

i just want to see pictures of really lanky tru souls on nasty looking handrails that don’t photograph well. i find the quality of your magazine a bit too good so i struggle to relate to it. also there are a lot of words in there that i don’t understand, unity never used big words so maybe you could put a glossary at the back? i’m also very interested in seeing a “top 10 ugliest skaters” feature as i think this could be my way back into the limelight.

just to give you an idea of publications i do approve of, i am currently reading: heat, nuts, mens health and a book my mrs got me called spot the dog.

    love.lank

    tomarse portarse

  24. portas Says:

Obviously last comment wasnt by me. Rather a man who i have probably shown up at a session.
As for that ugliesy skater awards I would probably get in ur top english skaters but on an international level I may fall a bit short. Although wayne rooney once won the ugliest footballer in the premiership award and I know i would shag his mrs.
Good to see JC isnt as stupid as the idiots jumping to his magazines defence. I would like to see a Michael France profile. Michael Tew perhaps. Maybe summit with Si piper, Daz Cartledge, Sim Warren. More sequences. more tech stuff. errrr less (adverst although I accept the reasons behind them). Sean Escott looks really good. I am just rambling but u get the idea.
I would like to see a list of biggest cowards on message boards as well ^ ^ ^ then i could ID em and smash their fuckin faces in

  25. tom willox Says:

There are some very talented skaters in the UK that have been around for a long time and most of the older boys are aware of but they lack coverage… So just to follow on from what Portas started, I would like to add Goodman, Johnny Carthy and the beast that is Deveraux to that list.

And for all the winging kids… appreciate what KDM is doing for UK rollerblading. Without Joe, Oli and Kola there wouldn’t be anything in the UK representing what you do, bringing your favourite skaters to your town and putting comps on for you.

It’s only just on it’s third print issue and the written, photo and general presentation is of far better quality than Unity ever was, so give it time, and a few people have already said, if you think you can take print worthy photos, or can write a comprehendable report on a comp or think you are the next Aragon then do something about it and get in touch. If not, then lighten up.

  26. DarthRoller Says:

For people complaining of a lack of UK exposure:

    Northern Ireland:

Not ONE picture in any rollin’ mag I’ve ever seen and by God, I bought a LOT of Unity’s. That’s before we start on Kingdom.

Rollin’ first got goin’ in ‘91.

Never seen any coverage of Northern Ireland.

So try and enjoy the fact you’re getting to see spots you’ve actually been to in the mag.

  27. Adam Kohglya Says:

    KOGLAAAAAA MONSTEEEERRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    …is behind with the rent

…him and si cox are bum boys who wear gay clothes and can’t skate.

    but SSSHHHHHHHH!!!!
(It’s a secret, they’ve been tricking people into thinking they are cool!)

  28. Wellank Says:

Anyone complaining about the price………common, it’s less than 2 pints or a MDs meal.

  29. portas Says:

Carefull people cause I think the eyes of the law are viewing this thread

  30. hallsy Says:

”lets ‘ave it right”………the mag is our ONLY mag. i want one mag more then no mag!

  31. dan bond Says:

    Darth roller:

There were a few irish features in unity - i have every issue and have read everyone of them about 100 times. They DID cover it. Ireland has yet to (as far as i know) turn out a photographer who can take a print quality picture…so unless kola gets a flight over there, it doesn’t happen.

I seriously cannot beleve anyone is talking shit on this magazine on its 3rd issue. Crazy,

  32. Frazer Watson Says:

i’m in agreemnet with Dan bond. Why is it up to Kingdom to travel all the way to Northen Ireland, where they don’t know any one, to shoot a scene profile?

where’s your photographer? If your that arsed, get together and submit some stuff for them. If it’s of good quality it will be used.

And basically, all you so called UK skaters, nice one. Just sit on the internet and slag a positive force in rollerblading. So if it’s not up to scratch yet, for your taste any way, well why not say fucking sick Kingdom mag, sick for trying, keep it up and mature and grow.

The third print issue and your all slagging ot off, fuck you lot.

As for the ’same old faces’… yeah same old faces, still the same old faces killing it as back then. If your all that sick and deserve all this expsoure, then why havn’t you broke through and we all, collectivle;y as uk skaters, don’t know your name?

and being kolas friend is what it takes to get in is it?

Nick lomax managed to break through, not because hes friends with kola, but because he has the skill.

But what ever, you lot will always hate. So I’m sure i speak for every one when I say fuck you. Hating on a positive step… Whatever.

Chaz and I are having profiles every week, deal with it.

  33. MR WUMBASTIC Says:

Thing is frazer I wouldnt object to u and chaz having a profile every week. would at least be good to look at.
So let me get this straight in my head, people should submit photos so Kola et al can make a living off of them. If u start ur own bussiness I always thought u had to put in a lot of hard work urself.
I think my main disagreement with the whole issue is that magazines seem to think that kids/people need to make themselves known. I am of the opinion that it is the job of the magazines to find good people not vice versa. At the end of the day they are the ones making a living out of it.

  34. Jharv Says:

Get a profile on D-ives blad

  35. JC Says:

lets be clear here folks, no one is making a living out of running this magazine, we are doing it because we love rollerblading.

Mr Wumbtastic - do you suggest we just turn up in a town and try and find a blader worth profiling?

YOU HAVE TO CONTACT US IF YOU WANT TO BE KNOWN

    thanks

  36. Frazer Watson Says:

No one is making a living out of skating right now. Specially not no magazine, on its third issue. Kola works at ticket master on the side so that he can have money.

Yeah if you want coverage, submit, and if it isn’t good enough quality, at least you will be letting them know that there is skating in your area, and perhaps they can arange to meet up for a weekend.

Thats how it works, remeber the Newcastle scene report in Unity? Thats how that happened.

I love how every one gose on about unity as well, as if it was good. Every one hated Unity, evry month on the internet slagging it off. It was shit. Kingdom is better already, give it time to grow.

  37. Will Willson Says:

Give me a profile I’m sick as fuck, youtube me biaatch!!!

  38. Frazer Watson Says:

Will you arrest them if they don’t?

  39. portas Says:

Yeh give Will a profile. He has only been quit for about a year. Still I think that is about 4 years less than iaonnos has been quit.

  40. portas Says:

    he we go then….

front cover - big hammer trick
contents - nice tech grind sequence ( take ur pick of chaz’s vocab)
    profile 1 - chaz sands
    company profile - razors uk
where are they now - iaonnas
up and coming mini profile -
    profile 2 - frazer watson
    skatepark review - creation
photo section - hammers and tech

  41. terry horsnall Says:

what u listed is pretty much the content of the last few issues so why you even complaining? u just sound hard done by coz u and ur mate will havent been in it yet which is a bit lame

  42. Chaz Sands Says:

This pisses me off all the kids that come on to sites like this and talk shit about the only UK mag we have, you can never keep you kids happy… what if there was no mag you would complain about that… now there is a mag you still complain.

Fray is right what he says there are only a few skaters in the UK that work hard and actually try to make a name for themselves and people love to hate that because you all think that it came easy to them. trust me it dont come easy every1 that is usually in these mags are the people who do travel and try to make themself a name.

But hey there will always be haters.

whatever keep hating see what we care!

    be happy we have something!!

  43. portas Says:

    Terry,

LAME = SENDING PHOTOS OF URSELF TO HOMEGROWN.

Some of us do still remember mate.

  44. Big Al Says:

    Loving portas’ trivia!

  45. JC Says:

    Portas, trivia time

Who was on the cover of the Xmas Issue of Unity 99?

  46. terry horsnall Says:

nov/dec 99 was guy crawford with a heel grab 180 over a fake unity head office sign in bristol. sick dale heenan p file aswell

  47. James Mac Says:

Many people are writing about how this is the only magazine we have, and how if we didn’t have anything we’d complain. Yes this is true, yet i think many people have overlooked the fact that this isn’t just ‘a magazine to represent the country’ or just to keep us happy. Kingdom is an amazing quality, in depth and new breed of magazine, better than many that we have seen go by over the years.
If you have been buying the magazine each season, you would have also realised the huge variety of rollerbladers within, not ‘the same old faces’ or the same people. The younger rollerbladers of the u.k are getting lots of coverage aswell, with the ‘youths’ section and throughout other parts of the mag. We get to learn about the rollerbladers who’ll take over the sport when the older one’s have gone, and the people who we’ll see killing it in the up and coming comps. Same ‘old’???..doesn’t seem that way to me.
Another thing people have been going on about is the price. It is £4,50 because of the quality, hard work, and necessary costs needed to produce the magazine. The staff make the magazine for us,……the uk rollerblading community, and anyone else who want’s an insight. I imagine they don’t make much profit out of the magazine, even if it is apparently too expensive. You should be thankful they are making the effort, and striving to bring the scene together and give us something new, and to lookf forward to. Some people are not happy about the people having profiles in kingdom, and they say Chaz Sands is a step in the right direction. Chaz is an insane skater, an internationally renowned rollerblader, pulling off some of the biggest tricks in rolling. It is good to see the big rollerbladers, but i also feel it is good to feature some of the relatively unknown skaters. I enjoy discovering the skaters that i don’t know much about, instead of what i already knew.
For me Kingdom is a more traditional, ‘homemade’ magazine. They show us new people and places, giving inspiration and insight to the readers. We get updates on what’s been happening in the past months, and if we already knew, we get it again, with great detail and quality photo’s.
I, and many other’s would like to say thankyou to Kingdom for creating such a good magazine and for all the other event’s and such that they organise.
