    Did she still skates?

  2. Bojd Says:

I read somewhere that she stop skating and started skiing because there was more money in it for her. kinda wack. she had a cool section in road to nowhere though.

  3. dawn Says:

i saw a clip of her in some woodward video not too long ago, like a fish to ao top soyale on mini i think, so i’m sure she still skates a little

and why shouldn’t she ski when she lives in canada? i don’t think it’s just the money, she probably has friends in both worlds, skiing just kinda worked out for her

and after seeing her crash at Icer Air a few years back, she’s tough enough to do anything she wants! Go kaya, you rule!

  4. Will Says:

I bet she makes more then haffey and aragon combined. she still skate a bit.

  5. quityourbitchin Says:

    where is this skating?

  6. phebe Says:

That clip of her skating in Woodward is a few years old. There’s an edit of the new Taz in Montreal thats a few months old and she’s in it a bit. So she still skates, but I figure probably not religiously like before.

she’s still sick in skiing as well as blading. No doubt about that.

  7. antirocker Says:

cool too bad she wont be able to take first in rollerblading in the summer xgames…

  8. Tom Endo Says:

Haffey should just start rollerblading in the skiing off season and then rake in the dough as a pro skier.

  9. skIgay Says:

man skiing is fucking gay. Gay gay gay

  10. sexy Says:

shes dope at skating, but hey whos knocking her for making money? you poor ass niggas get a job if you mad someone gettin money round here

  11. Lightpusher Says:

AMAZING!! That run was SMOOOTH!!! i would kill to do a lofty spin like that! so much air.
    BIG UPS TO KAYA!

  12. Not So Tricky Says:

To Paid The Bills She Skiing…and I think she still love rollerblading deep in her heart…, you know how much money we can make as pro rollerblader per month? I heard not less than $500….,

  13. rollerblading is gay Says:

that was pretty impressive. and if she could help put rollerblading out there then that’d be awesome.

  14. Matthew Says:

She is a good skier, that run was nice. I’m sure she still rollerblades.

Anyone who thinks a male pro rollerblader could have the same success though is kidding themselves.

    :’(
    Where is a inline summer X-game ???

  17. OutsiderLookingOut Says:

Thats awesome. Once a skater always a skater. The skills you learn as a skater transfer over amazingly well into other sports. Theres no doubt shes a skater, so technically a rollerblader won the first gold in Winter Xgames.

Huge Egg-on-the-face of the Xgames, we’re still invading their competitions. Doesnt matter the sport or season.

i think youll find the link between skiiing and rollerblading is mre than anyone can imagine all of the rollerblade pros could win those comps easily if they had what 1 month training before hand on skis…… i have been skating about 5 years and going skiing every february ( hence why i can never go to winterclash)) and if you are good on skates chances are you will be good on skis two and throwing 540′s seems natural with more weight on your feet….its soo similiar….haffey and shima proved that…aalll you bladers out there who skate and havent been skiing get on it!!

How can you say Haffey and Shima Proved that? Those guys are garbage at skiing. Yeah they are sick “rollerbladers” as people here call it (Which I thought was a demeaning name to your sport. Isnt it inline skating? Does any other sport identify themselves with a specific brand, and a pretty corny one at that? Should BMX be called Huffy? But thats a complete tangent) but they can barely lay turns on skis. Yes they can turn left and right, but thats not what I am talking about. Put them on a real hill and see whats up.

and back to the main point, How did they prove that? Have those guys won a single contest? No. They made like an edit? Maybe 2? And they were almost unbearable to watch.

  20. iSki Says:

Alright, I’m going to give you guys a skier’s perspective on kaya, her skiing, rollerblading, X-Games, and some of the comments in here.

Before I say anything though, I want to say that I have huge respect for skating – you guys are dope, some of the stuff I’ve seen skaters do blows my mind.

I think its whack that you guys aren’t in X-games, I’ve seen half-pipe footy of rollerblading and its ridiculous.

As for Kaya, as I understand it she was a skater, she tried skiing and enjoyed it, kept doing it, got pretty good, started winning comps and got noticed, and she’s now one of skiing’s best female park skiers. She’s not necessarily in it for the money or the fame, but she can maintain a lifestyle of shredding every day far more easily in skiing than in rollerblading, and that for sure factors in.

I’m stoked for her, and I’m stoked on her skiing for sure. However, she is NOT a rollerblader any longer – she trains skiing in the summer in NZ, she trains in the winter around the US and Canada. A rollerblader did NOT win X-games gold. The tricks she did in X-games were skiing tricks, done with skills she learned skiing, while on skis. A SKIER won skiing gold.

As for male rollerblade pros – there is absolutely not a single possibility of them doing well in skiing. No questions asked. Just watch men’s skiing big air at X-games to see that, or check out this edit:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vqaktrwGE4
Men’s skiing is at a significantly higher level, and there is a ton more to it than just hitting jumps and sliding rails. There is just way too much for guys like shima and haffey to learn before they could possibly go pro for skiing. I know guys who are better than haffey and shima at skiing and don’t even get hooked up with some free product, never mind win comps. Its a whole different game.

That said, the reverse stands true for pro skiers switching to rollerblading – it would never work.

Anyways, I’m stoked for Kaya, she’s pushing women’s skiing and that’s a good thing to see right now. Big ups to all you guys for getting out there and shredding on your skates, keep it up and if you get the chance, try skiing some time! I’m sure you’ll have a blast.

    Jordan:

Haffey and Shima had been skiing for less than a year and were doing 7′s and 9′s. Unbearable to watch, maybe. Style takes time. Very few people if any pick up a sport and are throwing 9′s over 50 foot tables in their first year. Which is the “proof” that skill is transferrable between the two sports. You’re kidding yourself to say that there is no connection.

And people in rollerblading have gotten over the fact that rollerblade is a brand. It’s just easier to say. Inline skating sounds stupid. So does rollerblading. So does freestyle rolling. So does (especially) aggressive inline. We just call it skating, or rollerblading. What’s in a name?

  22. akari Says:

i saw that some kid did a double misty 1420 and won. THAT is next level ish. It was on ESPN high lights and it topped Sean Whites flip thing.

  23. jordan Says:

    OK so, still.

Doing 7s and 9s doesnt prove anything. Anyone can spin one direction. Good Luck competing with that. And you said within a year? Where are they now? That was like 5 years ago. No progress?

How can you say they “could win any of those comps easily’? No one has yet, and no one will.

And no skier will ever just pick up skates and win contests either. Thats just not the way it works.

  24. matt.g Says:

People saying that shes skiing for the money are crazy. thats not true at all. she still skates all the time, well when shes in town anyways.

  25. Lee Says:

I’m not saying anyone will ever switch sports and win a contest, just that it’s easier to pick up.

I find myself getting better at snowboarding even though I rarely do it, just because I’m confident spinning a 5, and know how hard to chuck. I’m used to the idea of falling with a rail under me so there’s less fear of and you can try new things with more confidence.

  26. ski Says:

show me one rollerblader that can land a double cork 1620 then just maybe could a skater ever win a ski comp. I’m sorry skiers just do way bigger tricks, but you guys are honestly probably crazier cause snow is much more forgiving than pavement
