about ryan sheckler, go to youtube and search “Tooth Fairy trailer.”
He plays a rookie hockey player in a movie where the Rock is the Tooth Fairy (it’s coming out in January i think). ironic, huh? ice skates are kind of like rollerblades, and the word “fairy” is in the title, and sheckler’s character gets bullied by the Rock (a veteran hockey player). poetic justice for real!!!! but definitely a sell out
as for jojo, i believe he is very good for his age. my 8 year old tried (almost landed one) his first soul grind yesterday, after watching the edit of jojo at age 6 doing his first soul grind, so he IS an inspiration to young skaters. i’m not sure if i would call it a pro model though. being pro places a lot of expectations and responsibilites on the skater’s shoulders, and i think a young kid shouldn’t have to worry about that yet. call it a signature skate, limited edition, jr skate, college fund skate even, but save the pro models until he’s a bit older and has a few AILs under his belt or whatever. but i know he’s in good hands with richie and pam, they’ll look out for him for sure!!!
OK, time to go get some black friday discounts! too bad they don’t sell these skates at Wal-Mart, hopefully someday? =)

Johanny is not Pro, no one ever said he was…Johanny is simply a kid who likes to skate, just like so many others who liked to skate, for example Roadhouse, and so many other young guns who loved to skate, one exception – he is 9. in his free time, he inspires other kids to get involved in rolling, and he likes a good skate he can use for hockey too, oh yeah, and he likes to help people with diseases, instead of complaining on message boards and forums all day.
but hey you guys are the experts right?

There is always going to some one “better” out there. Johanny is a great representative for USD and will help market skates to younger kids. He knows that he is not pro… nor do we call the skate his pro skate. It’s a signature Junior skate. If any of you knew him, you would know that he has never been forced to skate. He knows he has some responsibility now to take photos and do camera interviews, but he’s super excited and is extremely grateful for this opportunity. Way to go Jojo! Keep skating hard!

haha so many of the people that post on rollerblading forums are just bitter that they have never been sponsored, regardless of how good they are or they think they are, so they have a cry when someone who is apprently undeserving gets hooked up.
maybe its your attitude thats not getting you anywhere.
The world is a big place and there is probably better skilled young rollers out there but our industry cannot support to sponser every good rollerblader, no matter what age they are.
This kid is the son of an industry icon, so of course he is going to get more exposure. he is constantly progresssing and clearly has a passion for it, so if the conference decides that he deserves a skate then good on them. He is a clean cut kid that could inspire all the other liitle dudes out there having a crack at rolling.
Without kids taking the sport up, then our industry is, quite simply, fucked.
ill agree that knowing people in the industry helps, but thats the way life go’s in any aspect ( like getting discounts of freinds, getting that new job through a mate, getting introduced to somebody important by a freind) So get over it.

Ha… When I was young we didn’t have good beginner skates. I think its great that a kid like him has the opportunity to do such good things for the sport.
Everyone hating needs to get a life and stop HATING… Instead actually go do something to get new kids skating. Our sport is not the largest thing around if you didn’t notice and kids like you that HATE take us further away from where we used to be.
We need to respect our sports godfathers, our pro’s of today, our companies that keep new things coming, Our media… and so on. I am just glad we still exist and thankful that a kid like that can remind me that skating is about fun. I lost the fun a long time ago because of stupid ass kids like you who just HATE. Doesn’t make me proud of this sport.

so no he’s not better than me, not yet anyways, and he’s clearly far more advantaged when it comes to getting to go skating, and being supported and the places he can skate, than most kids and i swear i’ve seen kids that age doing bigger shit in uk and not thought too much of it…
so cool and all that he help his little buddies out but that love needs to be spread to all the kids who roll man not just a select privileged few.

That Japanese girl was amazing, at the beginning I thought she was good for a little kid when she was sessioning that prail, then she busted out some airs and transition skating and I was really impressed.
Didn’t watch Jojo or whatever his name is, if my dad was an inline skater and I grew up at woodward I’d expect to be good at that age too, it should be a given really. Best of luck to him though not that he needs any.

That skate is beautiful. Congrats Johanny on your new signature skate. Im going to get a pair of those for my son who is now 6 months and 20lbs and hide them away til hes a little older, I love the green. Richie I think you and Pam are doing a great job with your kids. This must be the most embarrassing thread in Rollernews history. What other sport would you find participants bashing a 9-year old? Only ours. Which is why we’ve deteriorated from a sport to a bunch of losers who try to convince themselves they are relevant.
One guy is even giving Ritchie advice on how to be a parent. LOL.
Regarding the marketing, sheer genius as to whoever thought this up. USD will gain market share in America, where they have been weak. Young kids will go to Woodward and skate for a week with Jo Jo, and then convince their parents to buy his skate instead of the cheap skates at a sports store. Brilliant!
I do know one thing for a fact, the losers on this forum will fade away into oblivion, and kids like JoJo will help rebuild the sport.
