HOLY SHIT SOUL GRIND?! WHEN WAS THIS TRICK INVENTED?.. WOW THIS KID IS INCREDIBLE!… gimme a break im sick of seeing this kids face on roller news, ill be happy to see him in a few years when and if he’s progressed but why should we be forced to see crp like this on front page just cause his dad has placed well in a few compeatitions.. seriously. cut the crap..
Wow way to support the youth guys. These edits are made so that kids can access information about rollerblading. They are put on his site http://www.johannyvelasquez.com so that kids are informed about tricks. 50,000 post cards with his web site information are sent out all over the world to kids who don’t know anything about what we do. So you tell me if this is crap. I can’t believe how much disrespect we get for doing everything that everyone should be doing.
Thank god i watch this video i needed to see what the soul grind looked like, in order to call it trick tips there needs to be atleast one tip on how to do the trick not just a demonstartion. Retarted video
I semi take that back. Whoever decided to post this as Rollernews must really hate rollerblading or just wanted to really annoy most of us.
When not on this site, I suppose I could see it’s potential to entice children into the sport… and pedophiles. Nevertheless, the more the merrier, after all this kid is one of my all time greats so I’m definitely going to keep up to date with all his “how to” knowledge.
Keep up the good work JV (and his shameless father)!
well he forgot to say “thanks daddy for the skates” …is it just me that thinks that kid is fuckin big headed??????????and that this edit was pointless??????????????????
It is pretty shameful for people to hate on something clearly put out there to promote rollerblading, especially when its geared toward the youngest kids who we need to keep this train rolling. You know, some people actually put alot of effort into promoting this sport, we dont need little punk kids trashing that effort. If your not a kid, and someone who has been rolling for a long time and still hating what is wrong with you. Go skateboard. No, it is not ok to differ on opinions on this one. No hate is acceptable, grow up and just keep your mouth shut.
Whats wrong? the little Dude is nine Years old and he represented Rollerblading.
When other childs look the Edits from Jojo and beginn
to Skating is this the right way.
Rollerblading is not who is better or I am better thats other Rollerblader.
Excuse me my English is not so good I hope you understand me
first off id like to say real mature for talking shit about a 9 year old way to go everyone i hope u feel accomplished and 2nd off please post your edit to see the comments others leave on it and 3rd of all regardless of what u think keep your comments to yourself richie and pam have accomplished more for the skating industry than most of the companies combined ever could they respect all skaters and always have a positive attitude ive learned so much about respect and people skills from both of them in my time of knowing them and if everyone thinks its cool to sit here n talk shit well i guess people are right grow the fuck up post yer edit and if its got game then you have something to talk about but until them stop making the rollerblade scene look like its imploding with all of your bullshit comments and negative attitudes because with those attitudes rollerblading will never succeed and stay right where its underground richie keep up the good work tell the family i said hello and i hope to see you at AIL 2010 peace
The soul grind is clearly being tutorial’d for the young, starting out, up-and-comings.
Thus kids who have never seen what we do are getting to learn how to do a trick from someone their own age which makes them feel involved and gives them a sense of “if he can do, then I can do it”.
The fact it’s on rollernews is to show us that rolling is going to be promoted in a positive way.
Jeez, just because Johanny isn’t an 18-year old in skin tights smoking weed at the beginning of his edits doesn’t mean rolling is going to collapse.
Johanny will be better than you before long and Richie will keep him humble.
People need to embrace more. Especially around the up-and-comings. I remember seeing kids ask for help to climb to the top of a quarter pipe, asking the help of those they look up to and people letting them fall saying “n00b”. Any condemnation of someone who, for all we know is the future of rolling sucks major ass.
I think its awesome this kid blades and to hell with the haters but trick tips I mean Arlo Esienberg was doing tricks tips for ASA back in the day its 2010 think future
I don’t think people are angry that Johanny Velasquez is doing these videos and edits. I think they are getting mad at rollernews for constantly putting them up, when it has been acknowledged that these videos/ edits were not made for the community that already knows whats up, and is established, but rather for a new generation of kids trying to get into it.
I personally don’t care either way. Hell, I think it’s a step forward for Rollernews who have been known on more than one occasion to post up things that are completely not related to rolling in any way.
Keep up the good work Johanny Velasquez. I can’t wait to see what you become if you stick with it.
I never really hated on Johanny, I used sacrastic reference to imply that if I ever wanted to learn “how to” do something I’d rather watch a roller that has paid their dues and been doing this a long time having earned my respect as a peer.
I also pointed out that this video MAY hold some weight outside of Rollernews but, for me at least, Rollernews is where I come to watch videos intended for people that enjoy watching advanced techniques and skills in action.
I could totally see his videos during induction day at camp Woodward, that’s not why I visit Rollernews though, the same way I don’t come on here to watch prail edits.
listen right, any kid with skates on his feet is cool in my book, 100% no matter what you twats take away from any comment i leave i can honestly tell you i don’t give a fuck what you think, the constant coverage of this kid at this age isn’t really going to help him break the ‘cool’ barrier as a teen / adult, living with all this negativity that is mostly accurate if not a little jealous (not everyone) how hard is it gonna be for him to shake off all this bigging up as a kid, i tell you what, when he grows up i hope he is fucking mint busting massive hammers but if he’s not as good as predicted its never going to be his fault, cos he never made the predictions in the first place. just let him grow up a bit thats all i’m saying
the reason i thought the video was shit is because you could do a lot better, and ill be surprised if when he’s older he doesnt look back through the shit and think, fuck man, that was pretty poor…
no hate, kids who skate are definitely the way forward and i appreciate in hindsight that this clip wasnt made for rollernews and i agree with nick that rollernews should stop picking crap out like this there are a lot of good amateur skaters in the world, put a few more of their clips up instead…
truth be told though if he does keep it up this kid is gonna have one hell of a cool life, and in that respect i am pretty jealous.
It is so sad that people continue to hate on this young skater that is trying to promote skating to a younger gereration. It does not matter who his father is or who he knows, because he is being a positive influence for younger skaters.
Adults making fun of a little kid? And someone who is trying to make sure that our sport has a future no less…. I would love to see what all you haters are doing for our sport other than trying to keep people out of it. As a rollerblader, freestyle roller or whatever, you should be actively trying to encourage as many minds participate in our sport as possible, not shooting someone down when they make an effort. As for the fact that it is on rollernews, well everyone has their opinion. But if you have nothing but shit to say about an edit, then just say nothing at all, and move on to another edit. Or better yet, post up your own edit showing how much better than him you were at ages 7,8 and 9. You guys really need to re-examine your own values if you are just mad that he is that young and has a pro skate. I for one, congratulate him.
haha, some day you’ll be all of these haters’ favorite skater!
keep skating jojo! the silver lining for you is probably greater than for any of these haters/RN “experts”! what do i mean? you have a lot to look forward to in rollerblading for many years to come!
what’s up pam and richie?! keep paving the way for future generations, i for one can’t thank you enough for all you’ve done and continue to do for the sport! AIL gives hope and opportunity to many young skaters around the globe!, and woodward will always be a place for action sports to intermingle and build valuable relationships. keep up the fight!
I don’t know if I concur with you here. See you do make the best point, I don’t think you’ve actually given a large amount of thought to the opposite side of the argument. Perhaps I can write a guest post or a follow-up, just let me know.

this is true,
couldn’t even stick a 180 on any of those attempts
i want to see a frontside richie, do you reckon he could bust one of those?
haha
January 21st, 2010 at 2:53 pm
nonetheless rolling is going to be massive in 2010 and no doubt he’ll be somewhere being the face of it…

Thanks a bunch.

well he get´s hyped way too much in my opinion, but he skates + he seems to have fun while doing it.
but hating on a nine year old via internet means you are a complete dumbfuck!
think about that and grow up motherfuckers!
