Jim Jones interview with The Source

jim jones

Put your biases aside and really read this interview. Maybe it’ll help some of y’all to understand what The Diplomats are really doing. It’s more than music, baby.

Check this transcription of the Jim Jones interview with The Source.

Jim Jones, who recently announced the creation of Dipskate, a rollerblading team. Don’t miss the comments at the bottom of the page!

[…] When it comes to Jim Jones, expect the unexpected. “Some people look at him and say he’s a criminal,” explains Hip-Hop mogul Damon Dash, who has known the artist since Jim was 7. “But he has an executive job, he directs his own videos. He can take care of his own destiny, and he’s always up in somebody’s school.” Some didn’t think he’d ever leave the ‘hood, but eight years ago Jim Jones became the co-founder of The Diplomats with Cam’ron.

Two years later, he started directing Dip Set videos, and in 2004, he unveiled his purple liquor “Sizzurp”, which came with its own mixtape, Sippin’ on Sizzurp Vol. I: Getting Drunk on Music. Jones released his own DVD, signed to Koch Records as a solo artist, put out two back-to-back albums (2004’s On My Way to Church and 2005’s Harlem… Diary of a Summer) and now a third, Hustler’s P.O.M.E.

Last year he founded a new label, Byrdgang Records, and also recently announced his sponsorship of his extreme sports team, affectionately called Dipskate. Next up in 2007 is a family line of clothing called Nostic.[…]

that picture of them with red bandanna made my mom grab her pocket book and cross the street , shame on u thug life people

  2. sds motha fuckas Says:

i bet ur moms white..fuckin pussies holla IF U READ THIS BITCH AND THUG LIFE BITCHES

  3. buddy Says:

its cool that he is supporting our industry, but that doesnt take away from the fact that he is one of the many so-called “emcees” that is killing the hip hop industry. he is just another “thug” that thinks he has a sick flow, rapping about cars, women, and bling all the time… that ain’t “ballin”. eventually all of this fake bullshit will stop infultrating t.v. and radio, and we will be able to listen to some REAL HIP HOP again!!!

anyone who disagrees with me does not know/respect hip hop’s roots, and does not know the true meaning of hip hop.

  4. dan Says:

^^^^ exactly buddy. if you call his shit real hip hop then u need to be shot in the face… seriously.

  5. Greg Says:

He could have at least mentioned Ramelle Knight’s name or something.

  6. stockwell lover Says:

nope, fruitbooting. theres a video where the guy tries to convince you that you’ll see it and want to get some skates. no such luck. also quick clip of jimmy talking about how he used to skate. but i guess some people still rollerblade? might be a little bit of money left in the sport?
it’s pretty funny how hard they are trying to convince the viewer that rollerblading might be cool.

That mofo shuld be shoot in the face n then in the balls.

  7. lil grasshoppa Says:

alright lets all settle down. if you dont like jim jones dont hate on him. listen to something else. is it that hard. but what hes doing for the industry is great fro pablis and maybe it will help rollerblading get bigger.

  8. Joey Castro Says:

I’m with what lil grasshoppa said….if you dislike this stuff so much then just go comment other stuff you DO like. keep it to yourself becuase nobody wants to hear that shit. I support Dipset and Dipskate to the fullest.

  9. Tyeg Says:

As long as he rep our sport….thats all that maters.

  10. dan Says:

well dude no i will not stop disliking him and here are my reasons. ok first i like that he reps the sport… but, he is pretty much just like 50 cent and all those other ” thugs ” that rap and are sellouts to true music. there for were gonna have the little stupid kids that turn into fuckin wiggers and if they like rolleblading our sports has sellouts in it. yes it would be bringing money into the industry but with sellouts, which is not good. see what im saying though. but its not like its gonna happen for sure. so who gives a fcuk. just lets wait and see wat happens

  11. Adam Aint Says:

to all who say that the whole “braggadoccio” thing isn’t “a real part of hip-hop” have it twisted. Bragging about things has been a part of hip-hop since before hip-hop was even called hip-hop, look it up. I’m not saying that i agree with it. But saying “he’s not a real rapper” or whatever is a bad excuse, just say you don’t like his shit period.

  12. dan Says:

yea but you might as well say well rap sounds like hip hop so it must be the same, if your gonna say that he is bragging…

  13. buddy Says:

Adam… if you really know what hip hop is, you would know that the four main components of hip hop are dj-ing, graffiti, breakdancing, and emceeing. Jim Jones does NOT fall under ANY of these categories. If any of you think that he is an emcee, you are greatly mistaken. An Emcee (MC) is a (M)aster of (C)eremonies, or (M)ic (C)ontroller. Do you really think that Jim Jones has the skill/lyrical talent to hold one of those titles??…. NOT! It’s sad to see today that so many people are selling out and making goofy ass dances and sayings, just to get some radio play… “Chicken Noodle Soup”… or “BALLLLIINNNN”…WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT??? These pathetic people are giving Hip Hop a bad name, and i will be very happy when their careers come crashing down.

    PEACE

  14. Tim Says:

the people on the message board were really hating on rollerblading i mean they really think that jim jones is crazy and that rollerblading is gay. I wonder if anyone who will see this will think that it is cool and really want to grabe a pair of skates and start rollin. I think it gets us out there but we should stop trying so hard i mean it is making us look pathetic. thats just my opinion.

  15. Tim Says:

and i agree with buddy if you want to know what hip hop is listen to the record illmatic look that shit up it is one of my favorite hip-hop albumbs.

  16. dan Says:

cant forget scratching buddy!!! it too is part of hip hop :D

  17. b dazzle Says:

i do agree that most popular rappers today can’t even rap. i like the real hip hop artist like nas and talib kweli. its tight how dipset is reppin our sport they are one of the few thug or gangsta rappers that listen to. they are really big righ now so if people is feelin dipset and buyin their cds then they already supporting freestyle rolling as long as dipset still supports our sport. so i’m all good wit it nah mean

  18. hollarolla Says:

i know its sad but the reason why theres so much bad rap out there these days is because there are so many people that listen to it which overall gives rap a bad name. rap is a medium to deliver a message, like a movie or a book….. supporting rollerblading is good but no one should start skating just because some rapper makes it cool….

  19. Slow Says:

Hip Hop is used to express what someone is feeling…if someone speaks on cars and glamorous things..let it be.whatever they speak on…let it be. alot of these so cllaed rappers do it also….like Jay-Z, Nas, Outkast..everyone. Hip hop is expression so if someone has to express it by telling me he has this car and this house…Ok, so be it. Most of yall dont even know old school hip hop like Melle Mel . Zulu NAtion, sugarhill gang. leaders of the new school, Eric B and Rakim.

Jim JONES Aint down with rollerblading…He down with Freestyle Rolling…
    DONT CALL THIS ROLLERBLADING!!

If ya dont like it….O Well
They still gonna get that money and show love to the real people.

  20. dan Says:

i dont care wat you say, that is still not hip hop… and person that knows true hip hop can tell you that…

  21. Scott Wilcoxson Says:

Hey, keep doing your thang JJ! Peoples are just products of their enviroment. Most People equate wealth with self worth in our society,i.e; you are a better person if you have this and have that, or can do it better than another person.
The size of our ego is directly proportionate to the size of our fear! I personally think KRS ONE is one of the greatest
“hip hop” artist of our time, but I also like Motzart depending on my mood (guess Im not “hip-hop” enough,LOL). K ONE knows that the government
is a bunch of liars and they want black people to kill each other and be consumed with material gain. One of the biggest government experiments in human history is going on right now with the mult-billion dollar Pharmaceutical companies basically controlling the FDA, and poisoning the entire world. If your gonna rap, do it about important issues of our time. Rapping about cars, bitches and hoes is for those with small minds. Open your mind, educate yourself about what is really happening around you. Read people, because I assure you, the government wants you to be stupid, your easier to control that way! Here are some great writers: Emma Goldman, Ricardo Flores Magon,
Noam Chomsky, and Howard Zinn to name a few. Time to Roll.

  22. dan Says:

true words scoot, also listen to immortal technique, he rhymes about the government and shit too. seriously though the government put some poisonous chemical in alot of food which causes cancer. i cant remember wat its called, ill have to look it up.

  23. dan Says:

    scott*

  24. JE$$E JAME$ Says:

I have 2 words for you kids out there, Audience and DemoGraphic. And while you are looking those up take a look at a few other words like, Marketing, and mabey Publicity.

I agree that ther may be more intelectual or revolutionary artists out there. But not everyone wants to listen to them all the time. Be eclectic and listen to all music and take it for what its worth. I think that some music out there sucks , but that’s probably becuase it is not aimed towards my age group, sex, imcome bracket, race, residence and many other factors.

There’s a time and a place for everything. Sure ime not gonna listen to wu-tang when I’m with my grandparents. And sure I’m not gonna put on Sepultura when I’m tryin to bang some cunt. Basically if your not feeling jim jones or anyone else for that matter , then change the fucking chanel !

To conclude this rant….. I support rollerblading to the fullest and I support anyone else that supports rolling.

Now go fucking skating you whining little basterds.

P.s you little subburban white kids that think all rap needs to be philisophical and intelligent obviously have not been in a club when ” the song of 2006″ by mr. Jim jones starts to bang .

One day pro rollers will be ” BALLIN!!!!” and you know this maaaaaaan………….

  25. doubleRrolla Says:

    hahah fuck yea je$$e ..

i kinda feel the same as everyone else as far as how shitty 50 cent can be and all but i find myself listening to his shit every now and then, just because i hear it all the fucking time and it sticks in my head.. same with jim jones, every motha fucka around school is goin around ‘ballin’.. even in the basketball games the crowd flicks the wrist n screams ballin.. people are going to listen to that and make it big no matter how shitty it is, as long as their friends listen to it and make it seem coo.

  26. b dazzle Says:

ayo slow I think everyone should start calling it freestyle rolling cause when you tell people that you rollerblade i think some people get a negative image well at least the skateboarders in my area. if you call it freestyle rolling then they like what that. then you can explain it to them so they understand and don’t just hate.

ayo and dipset needs to make a remix to we fly high. the hook is goin be ROLLIN!!! haha that would be tight hearin some people sayin that especialy skateboarders haha.

  27. Ender Says:

I don’t think anyone should hate on rap because of what they sing about. I mean, look at it from their point of view. These people are coming from the poorest slums ever, and now because of some talent they have they’re ballin. If I ever got that rich coming from a life like that, I don’t think I could finish a sentence without saying ” Look at my fly ass chain, and this pimp watch.” I’ve been dirt poor before so I know what it feels like to finally have some money in my pockets.
