I really enjoyed it, a good history lesson for all the younger rollers
January 19th, 2010 at 7:48 pm
I got raised by this documentary…maybe not totally raised by it…’cause if I was, I’d be a homeless.
Whatever, it made me dream so long when I was younger !
January 19th, 2010 at 8:18 pm
this is a great documentary… cheesey but it is the closest to really representing the first couple of generations of rollers. You look at most of the “Senate AM’s” became legendary (Kevin Gillin, Robert Lievanos, Dustin Latimer, Louie Zamora). Unfortunately I don’t hear much of Gill Vasquez, the D-Clan (who are awesome people), the Tejada Bro’s, Ryan Jackalone or Dave Ortega (who I used to look up to growing up skating on the east coast). Skating back in this day was raw and true. We were outcasts then and we still are today but I feel like the rolling community has become mature and more cultured since the days of FR, Medium, Senate, 976 and Rise Above. But I do miss the days of watching ASA & NISS on ESPN and going to the local sporting goods store and seeing the latest “aggressive inline” gear. Memories… good ones though. Thanks for posting this. I want this on DVD now. -Phrigid-

January 19th, 2010 at 9:31 pm

January 19th, 2010 at 9:49 pm
Wow, this is old… souvenirs. :) Everyone who doesn’t recognize how this sport has evolved since the last 10 years are complete dumbassessss !!!!
January 19th, 2010 at 9:55 pm
what happened to Ortega and Jackalone?
those guys were legends, but unlike the other legends of that era they seemed to drop off the map.
January 19th, 2010 at 9:56 pm
this video also reminds me of the scene in usual suspects where stephen baldwin comes our from working under a car wearing the Your Wheels Suck FR shirt.
January 19th, 2010 at 10:41 pm

Because Aaron Feinberg drank my drink… Oh man I don’t even know what to say. Old school rollerblading is just so…different…from modern rollerblading.
January 19th, 2010 at 11:48 pm
This video was what got me into rollerblading dayss ago, it was on like TBS or somethin if you can believe that.
January 20th, 2010 at 12:23 am

January 20th, 2010 at 12:42 am
Your all welcome! As soon as I came across this gem, I had to post it for all the young bucks that need a schoolin and the og’s to reminisce.
How about Pauls Backslide? Epic? What happened to backslide steeze like that?
January 20th, 2010 at 12:50 am
I like how Senate basically brought DL with them, mercenary style, so they could beef up their team. DL was not, to my knowledge, on the Senate team at any point, and the fact that he’s wearing a medium t-shirt during some of the scenes maybe confirms that?
It’s kind of a manufactured documentary because FR was basically a dead man walking when they filmed this. Ryan Jacklone was FR and by that point he’d basically stopped skating. Also, Senate was big, but USD was a little less than a year away from creating the greatest skate team of all time.
Also, it’s worth pointing out that Brian Sorg, a Michigan legend, and criminally underrated as a skater, had a brief cameo with his name on the announcement board at the competition. Wish I could’ve seen his run.

i see some of you hating on rollerbading today compared to back then. everyone has to understand how much it has changed even as a dying industry (or maybe not dying).
January 20th, 2010 at 6:08 am
love to see how much progress weve made, even tho rollerblading has been around for only 40 years or so. in every area rollerblading is growing except getting to the public eye.
January 20th, 2010 at 6:30 am

UGGHH, best part is when Grant/Gram? Linhimer says “My favorite music is E40″ and he cranks up his radio hahaha yeeee
January 21st, 2010 at 12:45 am
This was cool to see how rollerblading used to be. I kinda thought the idea of publicity was funny. Nothing like that for rollerblading anymore haha.
The only guys I’ve heard of are DL and lievanos. Nobody else I knew.
Oh and Arlo is a total tool
@Matt Vigneux:definitely the coolest backslide ive ever seen
January 21st, 2010 at 3:40 am

January 21st, 2010 at 8:58 pm
great video. good history.
hahah that part with the FR dude telling the kid what tricks to do was ridiculous haha! and the skating with the cop too.
January 22nd, 2010 at 12:26 am
nice wave of nostalgia, prefer watching it now to when it came out. Gil and Ortega were sick. Its funny, when I first watched it and saw Brian Sorgs name posted I hoped to see his run too. Seeing Mark Shays was funny too, what a cheesepiece

Haha, funny vid! It’s been a while.
I didn’t see it back then when it came out and I was never that much into contests.. but still, that’s part of the history, guys.
Hahaha, “Senate for life” Brooke said… anyone remembers the big DB-line saying “Has Senate finally sold out?” And it did…
BTW: What happened to the dude that won the comp? (Weston Kramer?!)
One love!
September 17th, 2011 at 7:53 pm

September 18th, 2011 at 1:45 am
Honestly this video makes me feel good that I quit rollerblading, this video does no justice for the sport and should really be banished forever and never be brought to surface until the end of time.
September 18th, 2011 at 2:35 am
rocket backslide of doom!
September 18th, 2011 at 5:53 am
