Ignition is Closing (June 2011)

ignition

quoting Leo Donhauser / Ignition Owner:

About a year ago, I decided that after 10 years in this sport / business its time for me to move on and discover something new in my life.

Ever since I’ve been looking for possible solutions, how Ignition could continue without me. Unfortunately nothing came up that I could really believe that it might work out.

So in the end, I decided that it would be the best if the shop will be closed, but keep the option to re-open it one day.

As we still have to clear our inventory, I thought I will write a more detailed text (including a small documentary of the shop history) once everything is really done and concentrate on the business part for now. [...]

wait, what? damn .. thats sooo bad … ignition is the only shop here in germany that is really in search for direct contact to the customers… thats too bad …

  2. Luke Says:

…this is so sad. Ignition has always been the better alternative to Grindhouse. Even though Grindhouse is in germany too I´ll support hedonskate from now on!

  3. RollinBerlin Says:

    ach du scheisse….

I’ll then have to buy from hedonskate too, not feeling the guys from Grindhouse…

  4. Anonymous Says:

    great idea to increase sales!

  5. Sorki Says:

    … sehr schade, aber verständlich…

    viel Glück !

  6. braaaaaaa Says:

    neeeeeeeeein!

    schade,sehr schade!

  7. niqo Says:

    my favourite skateshop… ;(

  8. Kevin Little Says:

So sad. RIP Ignition :( You did some amazing things for our sport. Thanks for the many, many years of support. You will be greatly missed.

  9. Jens Says:

    oh fuck ey…..

  10. maik l. Says:

please give me a reason why you don’t support grindhouse?

no other shop puts more money and efforts back in our sport than grindhouse. grindhouse supports every competition and does more for the scene and our sport than any other shop could.

ignition has always been smaller and due to that it was easier for them to get in a direct touch with their customers! if you live in germany, you should support grindhouse from now on!..they help to keep our sport alive, not just in germany!
they are full supporters from ROLLTOGETHER since day 1 and they care more about you than you think! if you wish to have a better contanct and communication, they have to stop everything beside their online shop and fully concentrate on your issues and problems! or maybe they are able to hire another assistant for customer care, but that would just be possible if you go on and support a german shop that cares about you and our sport!

i really liked the whole concept and the shop, i call most of the riders and employes of ignition friends and i am really feel a pity for them, but i wish gagi and leo just the best for their future plans…

think about it, or hate on me…i think you’ll chose the last option anyways..

  11. smoker Says:

    back to X-WORLD SKATESHOP

thats your alternative i case you dislike Thosten “moneyboy” Rüffer

  12. Eike Says:

@mail l.: i think the people who are writing that shit are only the few grindhouse haters in germany! you´ve written on your own that grindhouse was at every time the bigger shop and that they have many customers! i think that most of the ignition cutsomers will change to grindhouse. whith some exceptions: “the haters” (…) grindhouse is a great shop an i like what they do! all in all grindhouse will draw benefits from the closure. but all in all i think still that it´s sad that they will close. it was a great shop with its pros. like fore example the direct contact to their customers. good luck to the ignition dudes!

  13. Leo @ Ignitionshop.com Says:

Maik – isn’t this the wrong topic for this kind of advertisment?

about rolltogether: you guys should not have sold out to one shop. i told you that before, and i’m tellin you now. i’m still VERY disapointed that you did not let any other shops support this project and contribute its share to it. (and speaking of ignition, we usually contributed a LOT to whatever we supported, because if we supported something, we believed in it).

and i’m not starting a discusson here, this is my one and only response to you and this rolltogether topic.

  14. karl d. Says:

no other shop had more credibilty.

  15. maik l. Says:

im really sorry about that leo but i was kinda upset, that this really sad message was used for a bad talk about grindhouse instead of saying something about ignition!

and wasn’t this the wrong topic for bad talk about our decisions about rollTogether?

as i just said, i just wish you the best for your future and i hope that there will be a solution, that is able to keep ignition alive!

  16. danielll Says:

  17. The M Says:

Terrible news! Oh dear…waiting for more details.

But hey, GH is not an option…not for me, maybe for the kids, but I can not take GH seriously…money machinery, TR is pf%S”(/§! and the whole setup of the shop is an embarrassing joke!
They do a lot yes and they are big, but I have no sympathies left for GH, nope sorry.
I’d rather give small shops a chance! Even for balance issues!
Don’t fall for the pr by Maik L. !

    oh oh oh

Du solltest die echt ma nen paar Gedanken machen was du wann wo schreibst!

  19. .Fx Says:

A real shame, I’ve been a frequent visitor and customer at Ignition for years, it’s sad to see them go. Whatever you’re going to do Leo, I sure hope it brings at least as much satisfaction as Ignition did.

  20. Andy Says:

    Peace Andy

  21. Dom Seven Says:

    very bad News :(

  22. Anonymous Says:

not gonna give my money to GH, gota find other options…

  23. maik l. Says:

  24. felix Says:

that’s really sad! I liked the shop very much and ordered there very often, can’t believe it’s not going well enough to be continued!? Hey Leo who did you ask to continue the shop? There has to be an option!

  25. mmmmmmmm Says:

    Best shop in the world!

  26. Cata Says:

For me Ignition was the ONLY shop oriented on rollerblading and not on money. Hoping they will not close an that they will continue!

its not about the fact that grindhouse will draw any benefit, IT IS NOT, absolutely not, ITS ALL ABOUT THE FACT THE OUR SCENE LOST ANOTHER SHOP!!!!…why does everyone think, that i start hating on anything? that is the whole problem as soon as anyone start to use his name on rollernews he becomes the center of hate!

just because i skate for grindhouse does not mean i hate on ignition…why are you guys so ignorant?
ive been to the ignition shop pretty often and liked it very much, as the shop was awesome…i hate it that everyone thinks, there has to be hte between two skateshop, i mean c’mon we all do the same thing and love it…

what did hedon ever do for the german szene? why would you support a shop from whereever instead of one in your country, that supports your local szene?

  44. john Says:

  60. rolling-a-mindgameinfocus Says:

When i recieved the email this morning “ignition closeing” i really was shocked! :O , i just didnt believe that Leo would let go of such a great shop as Ignition is , ive been buying from them since 2008 and 99% from them because of their service, with great communication and honesty, allways giving customers Fantastic deals and even sent me free set of frame screws with No postage cost!.

I wish you(Leo) would consider finding a successor to manage the shop weather it still include a shop front in berlin or not, I am 100% sure you can have belief in your fellow rollers and current staff weather they work there on Casual , part time basis.

I have also bought from GH and Thorsten has been meeting my customer satisfaction most of the time, although delays have happened, this isnt a isolated matter, they dont have the great deals allways but what they do in other area’s is support small and big competitions with alot of prizes , running events , and looking after their riders that consist of a variety of people from other countries as well as local talent..

support every shop , spreading our bussiness that all shops in europe and other places need is and will help.

    under no disscussion

shops that put the effort in and prove them selves as a reliable source for the best service and blading gear is worth supporting in what ever country your in.

BUT if you have a local skate shop, SUPPORT them , i know how it is not to have a shop , eg sweden doesnt have one but has had a select few try provide local support for their scene because of great collaboration. ;)

the guys at Hedonskate are great as well, M.regan does great work , and manages the team and serviceing customers well.. personal experience.

Well this is a really sad news but let’s just hope Leo will find himself in some good other business and that he will have luck and satisfaction in it. Ignition has always been suporting rollerblading in Europe and out of it. I never bought anything from other shops others than Ignition but that doesn’t mean I hate other shops. I can only say, thank you Leo, thank you Ignition for helping rollerblading for all the nice things you did for it. And yeah, I still belive it’s not a RIP, it’s just a time off :)

  75. Filip @ ignitionshop.com Says:

Thanx for the huge support, it really means a lot for us. This is Leo’s decision and i truly hope that one day we will come back stronger, in the meanwhile we will continue doing what we always did, skate.

I just hope some other shop comes along quickly to compete with gh, not saying anything bad about gh though. Heard they give alot to their riders and know for a fact that they endorse competitions all the time. But if they have a monopoly type deal then ofcourse prices are gonna escelate.

its all very sad, but Leo seems like a really smart guy so im sure the bike deal is gonna be better for him. Few rollerblades, everybody bikes ^^

  80. Gilles Deleuze Says:

    trop triste … C’ette monde !

  81. Andrew Bonter Says:

I’m from the UK and I did all my shopping with Ignition for a few core reasons.

Their stock was up to date and competitively priced.

Their site and customer relations were simple and easy to deal with.

They didn’t have any controversy, hate or general bullshit around them. They just did what they loved and did it well without stepping on anyone’s toes or pissing anyone off.

Definitely not going back to Proline, they give less than zero percet of a fuck about rollerblading, Loco’s stock is limited and never what I’m looking for and their prices aren’t competitive. Ordering from the US would be a huge waste of money, Slaptap is like a shittier version of Loco…

Is that drug dealer still running Fear and Rolling out of that crack den in Newport?

Grindhouse it is then, or maybe I’ll just make my own stuff out of used tissues and empty take out boxes.

    Ignition, reconsider… please?

I buy my shit for over 6 years now in germany at ignition and gh. both shops make their business nearly perfect (with a few exceptions! both shops!!)… thats my opinion. they do a lot for our lifestyle!!!!!!! better be thankful and happy about that tons of money that gh gives back to the people. btw why you ever use this forum for such a discussion? about cars and money. just fckn jealous. no respect to the real meaning of this thread. so go play with ur barbies but please stop skating u pussys! ..i will still buy my shit at gh! for sure!)

Wish u all the best ignition hope u come back soon :(

no respect for the real meaning of the thread? u think about maik l. right?
u have to choose another shop when ignition shut down there doors and its good to say that it should not be grindhouse
reasons fot that are sooo many but the most important is that they suck so much that it would be better if they disappear.
    Gh is such a joke
and im really waiting for leos recommindation where to buy in the future.
it will be obvious not gh thats for sure

  100. Does not compute Says:

Whoa! Ignition is closing. Is a really great shop by good people that did good for rollerblading. it is hard to believe that there will ever be another shop with their level of support. These guys have heart for rollerblading. Best of luck to all involved

Hmm also… “Gh is such a joke”, “GH sucks”, “GH should dissapear” I hear lots of mindless noise, but no arguments as to why Grindhouse is so evil? Can someone sensible please explain what’s going on with them?

  101. Anonymous Says:

they don’t like the gh logos, gh does not support rolling, thorsten has got porsche and audi, … THAT’S ALL NAZI-LIKE BULLSHIT! i also read something like this by ignition skaters. that’s one reason why i prefered grindhouse as my favorite skateshop.

GRINDHOUSE IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST SUPPORTERS IN EUROPE!

grindhouse supports 40 contests a year and you can find grindhouse as sponsor on many contests, events and dvd’s.

yeah man rollerblading sucks there’s no money in it.Corporate America doesn’t care about you guys anymore.Neither does regular America.Even If you opened up your own skatepark you wouldn’t make enough money to live.I know someone who did it in one of the most highly populated area’s in the country 80 miles from nyc.If you can’t make money there your not making it anywhere. And on the real the atmosphere was a little different back in the day.Everyone wanted to be down now nobody does and runs away.wake up you can’t do that many tricks, rollerblading is for little bored kids growing up wherever.
