  17. Griffon Clan Says:

wtf, i dont skate since oldskool, actually i’m a grommet,
but in the end of the video when the guy handed his skate to other guy,
I saw the skate close-up and now i’m asking myself how the fuck could they grind with that two fingers h-block?
a rail doesnt fit in there really… imagine a ledge ;p

  18. so wack Says:

    the gay 90s?

  19. Scott W Says:

Hey Griffon Clan to answer your question, those skates(I think they are Roces Moscow ramps) came stock with flat set up 78mm? wheels(Hyper Fat Boys?), and most people who liked to grind were running anti-rocker, so they would be taking the stock wheels out of the middle and runnin anti.Though those skates were designed primarily for vert and sucked for street due to the alluminum frames. I should know because I skated them. Whats even more sick is that the soul space was like 1″ in the front and nothing in the back. Thats why I just sit back and laugh at all the youngins bitching about this frame sucking and that skate being gay, cuz yall dont have a clue about your roots.

  20. jai Says:

yeah, those were roces vert skates back in the day, impalas to be exact. as far as kids making complaints about soul size on skates today and skates not being good enough… wow. the ability to improve and learn on skates today is so much fater than in the past. i was stoked back in the day when cds detroit made soul blocks for the back of the skate - then you would take an old cds detroit grind plate and screw that into the front of your soul for a larger area - cut off the excess to shape the boot and off ya went. i rocked rollerblade lightnings for the longest time until i got my fattys. there are so many choices of skates now. i will forever remember my rollerblades and then my fattys - then majestic 12’s. the good ol days. i have watched this sport evolve into what i could have never imagined when i started - it has been a blast. you want some old school videos - go pick up “vertical axis” and “dare to air” or the hoax (first one) first VG was pretty damn good too… had a nice omaha section in it before the hoax 2 got them into the mix. roots is what it’s all about. skating is the best damn thing in the world and has been for 15 long years.

  21. gav Says:

    maakee iiiitttt pppeerrffeeecccttt!

  22. Scott Wilcoxson Says:

Hell yeah Jai, I remember taking these old skateboard rails and modifying them and screwing them in to the heels of my M12’s and it made alley-oop makio’s like 10 times easier!
Remember Mad Beef? Remember FR wheels with the naked girls on em, those wheels were the shit!
    greenlantern
    since 91 son

  23. Tru Says:

dude jai speaks from the root’s i aint heard shit talked about like that since i was a nipper

  24. mike/rando Says:

Yep the day of taking your skates into the shed to improve the skate.

    Miss those days, haha.

  25. prodigy Says:

This is where it all began. All these old school videos are the best. I wish they would re-release all the old videos on DVD. Those guys were the true icons of our sport. Rollerblading is awesome and we are here to stay.

  26. jai Says:

rollerblading has gone to places never imagined - like i said before. scott, i do remember the vid mad beef - i got it in the archives. and as far as FR goes, i have the t-shirt “your wheels suck” in my closet. damn, i have the pleasure tools boy scout button up in my closet, haha! all of these to be saved for my 4 yr. old son one day. he will have a pimp vintage skate collection. i think i could make a list way to damn long on skate vids that i have. i sent jeromy morris a note on myspace a while back and told him his section with rockwell in the vid “in the 9’s” always got my pumped to go roll… he was like man that was a while ago! i just think that for us who started skating back in the early 90’s… we KNOW what rollerblading has done from the ground up - we have seen it evolve - we can watch the new videos and be like DAMN that is amazing. i’m soon to be 33 yrs. old next week and i had a skate sesh in my driveway today on all my p-rails with the neighborhood kids - as we do 3 to 4 times a week, haha! i have gotten at least 5 kids rolling now and always wanting to skate… i think i have given back because i am trying to encourage more kids to roll. i let them borrow videos and the more they see, the more they want to roll. skating has blessed me with life long friends and so many memories that always make me smile. i think i have a good part of my life captured on video cause we always filmed everything. so, the BEST parts of my life are all captured for the most part. it is like a rolling life long documentary that started 15 years ago. the first tapes on vhs-c, haha! i could go on and on about how rolling has made me more of who i am today, but i think we all know this feeling. without it - we would be left somewhat empty inside… but rolling has made us that much more complete and given us a way to express our talents and feelings. i am just looking forward to the next 15 years - watching a video and getting more excited about everything. i am excited for my son who i hope will always want me to drag him to the skatepark. i am looking forward to driving him and his friends around town to hit up skate spots… it will be here before i know it. much respect to all the old schoolers out there! you know you are old school if…
-you rocked hyper dwarfs and midgets
    -you rocked kryptonic lil roxx

    - i can sing “happy tree”, haha!
-i have met all the hoax 2 pro’s and got the autographs, blah blah blah…
-i will have to post some pics on hee of all the old school memories… yeah, i am gonna do that for sure. others follow suit with their old sheazy!

  29. ayo Says:

i still have hypers. fr. and when senate came out oh my lord. fattys and dirks. jeez. where did the time go?

  30. Ths! Says:

    - i still own a pair of the first roces “street” (the same year the first m12 came out) , RB Dirk, K2 fatty pro and more…
    - i got hyper fatboys and dwarfs in my closet,
    - tons of vhs videos (including nickel n dime, the adventures of mister mooseknuckle, Yellow brickroad, Krangk, hoax 3, quest for the holy rail.. and so on..)
    - i even wear a senate t-shirt sometimes with “destroy all girls” in the label

and the best ever: the video “Some free advice” with a clip of chris edwards making a damn high frontflip over a funbox during a high air contest… awesome.

does anyone remember the full length cds grindplates?
or the double Scribe plates? (metal and plastic on top of eachother)
    Still got those somewhere…

  31. Rob C Says:

You know your old school when you can tell that the skates Calvin won from Rawlinson are Roces Lowriders with 62mm Hyper Dwarfs in them.

  32. Scott Wilcoxson Says:

    You know your old school:
-Your first skates were Rollerblade Macroblades from 1989 with like 80mm wheels and you were doing 8′ parking lot gaps in 1991 with them, and you didnt have a clue anyone else was doing the same shit.
-You used to frontside stall the pebble encrusted trashcans in rec skates at Kansas University in 91 and you thought you were the shit.
-You have skated Brooklyn banks when all the rails were still there.
-You skated in the Am Jams.
-You know who Rene Hulgren is.
-You used to mute 180 and land half way down a 50 stair and ride the whole thing out.
-You have skated over 20 different skates.
-You were backsliding handrails in 1996.
-You met your current wife in a dark parking lot in 1997 practicing fakie 360’s off of your launch ramp and your future woman came rollerblading up to you out of the dark.
-Youve skated with Feinberg when you were better than him.

  33. jai Says:

oh man all this stuff is making me bust out laughing so hard i got a cramp! this is some old school stuff… i dop remember the full length cds plates for the entire soul, had the holes drilled out for easy application, haha! i loved the cds woodies!

  34. nigganoitall Says:

ur all wrong……those skates r called roce lowriders…..i def. owned a pair back in the deezy….they had aluminum frames and they were the first skate where u could take the frame off and came with sick clip on bridge grind plates……..good ol days

  35. jai Says:

yeah, they had plastic add on grindplates… they also had some funky pin system in the axles too. at any rate, they were heavy as hell and vert skates for sure. i won a pair at the am jam comp and then traded them in at the nsga tradeshow at the roces booth for some majestic 12’s. i first learned to topsoul on those M12’s… loved those skates back in the day.. would get another pair, but i wish they were a bit wider for the foot.

  36. jai Says:

copy and paste the link… here is an old school pic of me from back in 95!!! notice the nice rollerblade lightnings and cds detroit hardware. man, that senate shirt looks brand freakin new. it is a bit faded now. enjoy!
