Ground Control: Trailer by Simon Mulvaney
Every frame has a story to tell. Every scratch is a letter, every chip a flare of creativity, every mark a test of endurance, every groove a path of accomplishment.
Every ramp, every rail, every fall, every cheer, every journey. Every trick you land and every trick you don’t, carved into a layer of plastic, concealed beneath our feet.
Every frame has a story to tell. This is ours.
To celebrate over a decade of Ground Control frames, comes the film to define a generation.

This will define the next ten years of rollerblading, just as Words did ten years ago. Love or hate the product, the team is amazing, and with Simon Mulvaney piloting this journey, this is gonna be amazing.

Art of flight 2 rollers revenge.
November 30th, 2011 at 7:23 pm
The filming looks good. I don’t understand why this guy simon decided to bite the living shit out of the ART OF FLIGHT.. The song..the style of the editing..you can’t watch this and NOT think..damn this guy is straight copying a video.. I will give it to you..THE ART OF FLIGHT is a great video. I love it and from one filmer to another I think rollerblading needs something like that…but that doesn’t mean you take the soundtrack and editing style and copy pretty much the whole thing lol come on man. You have a lot of good footage there. I hope you do something different with the rest of the video..
November 30th, 2011 at 7:34 pm

This looks gorgeous.
Will probably buy it.
Will be great to see a Chaz Sands section.
Didn’t buy Icons because Chaz wasn’t in it. Know a good few people who felt the same.
Thought he’s be in Game Theory and, low and behold, he wasn’t, didn’t buy that either.
So it’ll be great to see him in a Ground Control DVD, seeing as Razors didn’t have the foresight.
November 30th, 2011 at 9:31 pm
Wow. Buying it. That looked utterly amazing.

Chris Haffey is in there, u can see him briefly.
This video is gonna be the sickest video of all time, im buying it fo sure.
December 1st, 2011 at 9:05 am
@Dude, You are fucking lowlife asshole way to support rollerblading man. If you don’t like the film so be it but, for you to strike against buying the video b/c of it being online is fucking stupid.
On a lighter note, film looks really sick definitely will be the top rollerblading video of the year and quite possibly for years to come. Why aren’t team videos closer to this level of cinematography, Ivan Narez, Vinny Minton, and Simon Mulvaney seem to set the bar high and are on their own level when it comes to filming and editing videos.
There are small similarities between this and Art of Flight but I think on an overall scale you will see two totally different productions.
December 1st, 2011 at 9:27 am
Simon you rock! that was amazin, cant wait for the video!
December 1st, 2011 at 10:24 am
Amazing!
Your comment was a bit too short. Please go back and try again.
December 1st, 2011 at 10:39 am
This Video Must Be Awesome Because It From SIMON MULVANEY!
December 1st, 2011 at 2:20 pm
Haha, so you guys are saying he copied art of flight because he used super slowmo shots, scenary shots, and epic music?
Come on, if he is copying than the art of flight has been copying trailers for years. Traitment, V4L, Truth 2, you can say that all of those trailers had similarities to art of flight.
The GIANT difference however, is that the Art of Flight wants you to feel like they went out to do things that had never been done be for, never even been seen before! That a close group of riders went on a journey.
Simon’s trailer just says we have a big fat sick crew, and they did some incredible shit while filming for this video.
December 1st, 2011 at 3:11 pm
@CA -Everytime I buy skates, wheels and frames I’m supporting the industry. If someone puts a video on youtube or vimeo is it wrong of me to watch it? I’ve seen the trailer and have decided I’d rather wait for it to go on-line then buy it. What is wrong with that?
December 1st, 2011 at 3:24 pm
@Dude. It’s wrong because if everyone had that rediculously selfish attitude then companies will no longer spend the tens of thousands of dollars it costs to create films for us to enjoy. It’s immoral theft and shows that you have no idea about the trouble this industry is in. How are we supposed to grow as an industry if selfish brats like you have such a disgusting attitude towards both rollerblading and rollerbladers?
December 1st, 2011 at 3:28 pm
@Dude. Grow up and take responsibility for what you love before its gone for good. Support rolling or watch it die – your choice.

The Art Of Rolling!!
December 1st, 2011 at 5:26 pm
Hyden = I buy this
December 1st, 2011 at 5:32 pm
@MikeY – It’s not theft to watch a video on Youtube or Vimeo. If I had said I was going to download the video then I’d understand you reaction. Could please explain to me what exactly is immoral about watching skate videos on Youtube or Vimeo? Is there something I’m missing ? From what I can understand from what you’re saying, I think it would for fair to assume that you would also think the second hand trade of skates & parts to also be immoral and detrimental to the industry? I believe you are confusing to different issue. If not please correct me if I’m wrong.
December 1st, 2011 at 6:34 pm
i’m definitely getting it for christimas!
December 1st, 2011 at 7:59 pm
@Dude it’s not theft to watch videos on youtube or vimeo I agree. But, when you selfishly think that another Lowlife is going to upload it that’s where you are going wrong. To spitefully wait for that single person to upload the video is bad for the industry b/c you are wanting to see the video put you won’t put out the $20.00 needed to support the industry.
granted when you buy a video and see it online 2 weeks after its release does ruin it for buying videos but, you can’t tell me having the hard Dvd copy isn’t better than watch the quality loss on youtube.
On your other comment about second hand skates. That helps to get people into the sport and helps them decide whether they would want to go out and buy their own pair of skates in that case the industry has been helped. Another stand point I have is that even though they aren’t new the money was still put into the industry somewhere and the kid who had them first is now skate-less thus needing to buy new skates and or getting the secondhand skates and its just a constant chain of buying and selling to under privileged people who can’t afford the latest and greatest skate on the market.
December 1st, 2011 at 8:56 pm
AMAZING is all i have to say.
December 1st, 2011 at 9:28 pm
sick tilt efect,wow
December 2nd, 2011 at 12:28 am
@CA – Surely a similar logic that you’ve used regarding the sale of second-hand skate gear can be used in relation to the up-loading of videos, in the sense that new skaters and outsiders can access quality and up-to date rollerblading footage. Footage that can serve to inspire and promote our sport thus inspiring people to get involved and buy skates. I know that a lot of work goes into making videos, but when it comes to team videos, one of the primary functions is to promote the company and their products. The logic you give regarding supporting the industry doesn’t move me in regards to brands such as GC who I already support by buying there frames. Also, I don’t think that weight of the industry lies on this one issue. Any company that sells a product will always spend large amount of their budget on advertising, and that is essentially what the video is, advertising. Do you think that all the videos rollernews post have a detrimental effect on the industry? What if I said I’ll just wait for my friend to buy it then watch it at his house, is that different to waiting for someone to upload it on in parts in Youtube? Either way someone has had to buy it. One thing I always loved about Joe Navrans videos was the music, especially in the USD tour video. Now I’m pretty sure he didn’t pay any of that music…. do you apply the same moral sensibility to this?
December 2nd, 2011 at 12:29 am
@Dude. …What CA said.
December 2nd, 2011 at 12:32 am
@Dude. You’re an idiot.
December 2nd, 2011 at 12:33 am
Too bad Haffey doesn’t have a bigger part in this vid, seeing how he, Aragon, and Broskow have been the faces of GC forever now. Ive noticed that he is very selective in what vids he gives a full profile, or alot of skating too. Probly because he is super busy between Nitro Circus, Haffey.com, world records, and ect…. He is without a doubt my favorite skater and I am a bit disappointed to see he isn’t a bigger part of it, but after that trailer, I am completely JUICED to see this flick. Best quality looking video in along long time. I think if Haffey knew how big this was going to be, he might’ve decided to give more of his time. Eventhough Aragon is one of the best/ if not the best skaters alive, I have never been a huge fan. ( I think maybe I wanna see more creativity from such a talented guy)…. But one thing is for sure… Anything that shows Aragon for more than 5 seconds will inevitably show him busting out MASSIVE HAMMERS. Overall, I can’t wait
December 2nd, 2011 at 12:38 am
@Dude. Actually no. You’re a fucking selfish cunt! Like @Tom Curtis said – Support rolling or watch rolling die. Your whole “I don’t think the weight of the industry lies on this one issue” attitude is disgusting and is the exact reason we’re at the bottom of the action sports food chain! If everyone thought like that then their simply wouldn’t be an industry. Thank god there are still a tiny number of people with a backbone to buy products and support this industry. You’re attitude makes me sick.
December 2nd, 2011 at 1:53 am
@Mikey, The fact that you’ve reduced this discussion to personal insults says to me that you a) Don’t understand my points or b) realise I’m right. You haven’t even answered one of my questions! And so you know, I don’t give a shit if rollerblading is at the bottom of the “action sport food chain” we’ve been there forever and the industry looks great to me. I’m happy to have a sensible discussion about this issue as it seems to mean a lot to you and it’s not going to go away anytime soon.
December 2nd, 2011 at 2:45 am
@dude I couldn’t agree with you anymore on the music aspect of things and not getting the rights but, the music is not what fully sells the video the skaters involved in the projects do.
There are online videos coming out all the time to show people the progression of our sport granted you don’t normally see Brian Aragon or any big names having full sections in these videos but, my argument to that is it’s not like big names don’t come out with online edits too promote their latest skate or the newest product they rep. for surely kids can make their decision off an online edit that hasn’t been ripped off a DVD in order to decide whether or not they want to start rollerblading.
Yes it’s different that you watch the video at your friends house b/c you are only 1 person that is seeing the video if it was on youtube thousands of people would see it thus not buy it and sales would go down.
As for promotional things that is why the companies create trailers such as this one. It’s to get you hyped and want to purchase it.
Think about it this way if all the rollerbladers who have the same mentality as you b/c obviously you’re not the only one. Think about how much money companies would make if people that wait for the videos to go online actually bought them. $20.00 isn’t a lot if you’re talking one person but when you bring it to a full scale type thing it becomes a lot of money the company looses out on.
December 2nd, 2011 at 6:05 am
song title? I like
December 2nd, 2011 at 10:10 am
@Dude. I agree with @CA. Imagine if the 25000 people who have watched this trailer bought a copy of the DVD. If they did, imagine the amount of money that companies would then spend on their next production. If companies could confidently confirm a financial return on film productions, then they would spend more on the production process, thus creating better products. It literally wouldn’t be long until helicopters, cranes and huge world tours were being used to create films. The rest of the world wouldn’t be able to ignore this and it wouldn’t be long until more people started skating and buying products. Maybe then our pros would earn more than minimum wage and could be provided with health insurance. More, huge events and competitions could be afforded for everyone to attend and enjoy, further promoting the sport. Rolling would grow and grow and finally find financial stability.
However, instead we find people not buying media products but just selfishly ‘waiting for it to be put online’. We have pros getting dropped from sponsors because they can’t afford to pay them. And those who stay with their sponsors are taking severe pay cuts to the point where they can barely stay afloat! Companies are going busy all the time because demand for products isn’t high enough.
Your naive attitude shows that you’re fairly young and weren’t around to witness the hayday of rolling, where people got paid, events were huge and you could just turn on the TV to watch it. And all that can be realised once again if people simply participate in the industry instead of sitting by, watching it die, “waiting for somebody to upload a video to YouTube” instead of just saving a few dollars and making a responsible purchase.
December 2nd, 2011 at 3:10 pm
I’ve been rolling for 13 years plus. You’re dreaming if you think rollerblading has ever been truly respected. It had a quick injection of money and air time only to flop. Where I’m from insurance isn’t an issue as we get free health care. I think you’re romanticising the future of rollerblading, and further more your vision is not a shared vision. The nature of distributing film has changed forever due to the internet. Rollerblading needs to catch up. Perhaps you should stop coming on rollernews as this is against your beliefs. Can I ask, do you only watch videos online that you own?
December 2nd, 2011 at 4:23 pm
@Dude if you have been rolling for 13 years then I’m quite appalled at your outlook. It’s so naive. If you are just gonna wait until someone uploads the video to YouTube then keep it to yourself and don’t I broadcasting it to the wider community in a strange attempt to lessen sales of the film. Be a responsible consumer and purchase the products you believe in.
December 2nd, 2011 at 6:39 pm
@MikeY – I’m not trying to lessen the sales of the videos, I don’t have that much influence.. I don’t know where you got that idea from. You’ve also not answered any of my questions. I am a responsible consumer, and I do buy products that I believe in! I buy videos I like the look of, but that doesn’t mean I can’t watch ones I wouldn’t buy. I have and never would download or upload a skate film. If the film isn’t put on-line then I wont see it unless a friend shows it to me. It’s not really a big deal. As asked you before, do you only watch online videos that you own?
December 3rd, 2011 at 12:37 am
@Dude…. I understand your side completely… I think it’s absolutely wrong, but I do understand. I’m going to take your word that you have skated 13 years, but if so…. I really don’t know why your outlook is the way it is. I can’t lie. I too, watch edits on youtube. But usually, thats for videos I can’t buy because they aren’t available for sale anymore. (*Leading the blind, Brain Fear Gone, Killer Boots…ect) And eventhough I do watch some of these pirated vids, I also buy many videos. I have a whole cd wallet dedicated to my skate vids. I have skated for 10 years, and as a responsible member of our sport, it’s my obligation & PRIVILEGE to purchase the new vids that get me juiced to skate. Nobody is saying that you can’t ever watch youtube edits.. Life isn’t that black and white. I’m sure by now you should know that most things in this world are shades of grey. Take a little from the industry, but give something back. You know damn well that if nobody ever purchased product, then rollerblading would die completely. You act like you don’t care if that happens… If that is true, then why have you skated 13 yrs??? Why are you on RN watching rollerblading media, if you care nothing for it, or it’s future?? And btw, you are wrong for saying rollerblading was NEVER respected. It was never respected by other action sports (* mostly out of bitterness and jealousy out of how much money a new sport was making during low times for them). Rollerblading was though respected by the mainstream public and media. And If you knew the history (* or even just watched “Barely Dead”), you would know that the X-games was initially funded in most part from money being made by rollerblading, which is considerably more than just a little flash of money.
December 5th, 2011 at 4:58 pm
song title? everyone keeps talking about it but no one says it
December 5th, 2011 at 10:44 pm
i guess anything action spors related filmed in HD and with tilt shifts is copying art of flight then huh?
