Government Trying To Shut All Parks Down In Nebraska

A court ruling over a woman’s broken ankle has prompted a sudden shutdown of skate parks in at least three Nebraska cities and worries across the state about taxpayer liability for injuries suffered on public land.
Nick Baldwin practices stunts Friday at Roberts Park, 78th and Cass Streets. The Omaha skate park could join those in Norfolk, Fremont and North Platte that have closed recently in light of new concerns about a city’s liabilities over parks and recreational activities.
All types of parks and recreational activities could be curtailed because of a Sept. 29 Nebraska Supreme Court ruling that reversed 25 years of state law protecting governments from lawsuits.
Norfolk, Fremont and North Platte have closed their skate parks in the past two weeks. Omaha and Lincoln officials say they may be forced to close their skate parks as well and fear the impact could extend to BMX dirt bike tracks, sledding hills and playground slides.
Cities, counties, natural resources districts and the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission say the ruling makes them vulnerable to large court awards for injuries suffered at public recreation areas.
The high court ruled in the case of a woman who broke an ankle when she tripped on a county courthouse lawn while carrying plates from a picnic table to a trash can.
She sued, seeking damages from Dawes County for failing to fill a hole or level the ground around the courthouse. Her case wound its way to the state’s highest court.
Winning a lawsuit in such a case had been extremely difficult since a 1981 court ruling that provided a wall of protection for government-owned recreational areas. [...]

This is the most attrocious form of to much gov. ; incroching on ones freedom. I wouldn’t be surprised if this was just a test platform for a nation wide program to “protect us from our selves”, why not stop at skate parks, why not close down all parks that are not level - all natioal parks with moutains over three feet will be closed here after, you could fall and hurt your self. The new parks will be leveled to be occupied by walmarts and tv stations. : ) I bet anything that this was a political ploy or a issues booster for some candidate running for office.

This is the main reason why I absolutely despise of the majority of me fellow Americans. She fell, therefore it’s her own fault, she just wants to get paid off because she is too lazy to get up off of her rump and actually attempt to earn it herself. I don’t understand what an uneven field has to do with a skatepark anyways, other then the fact that most of them are public. Also, if they sled into a tree, they should’ve gone away from that. If there is faulty equipment, by all means the public place should and is liable,, if it’s the fault of the person even a minor child,, then the parents are resposible for allowing them to be there,, Or they should Not be parents, if they are looking for a excuse to not do their owne job.
