ECS Hardware
up: able frame h-blocks

Quoting Sentinel:

Some of you might remember Robert Dunn from ECS hardware interview he had on here a while ago.

Well i was chilin just clicking around and i found the link to the interview and went to his photo bucket and found some pictures of some new hardware.

ECS Hardware
up: able frame h-blocks

Check (lots of) pictures & videos related to this post on the dedicated topic in the forums. Thanks Sentinel.

Ok before you post judgment on the frame wait till you see the actually video and review and features and explanation on the frame.

The video goes indepth on what makes the frame different. These pictures are just a brief look at what its possibly going to look like and some of the features that it has.

That is until the video is rendering right now so check back proably 3 hours and the video should be up. Now the bolt that you see on the frame are just holding it together just so you can get an idea of what its going to look like.

The actuall bolt for the frame are 8mm bolts similar to the older groundcontrol bolts. the bolts that bolt the frame together are smaller bolts custom bolts. The bolts are on the way from the machine shop that is making them so soon as they come in ill show you. Now the wheel holes obviously on the fram have not been drilled yet mainly because were trying to figure out the design for the custom spacers.

Note that the frame will be customizable to the extent ov its very look and even its ride. In another words you will be able to interchange parts on the frame to make to 4 wheel compatible or even 5 wheel compatible for those who like to boost large airs in the vert ramp while still being capable of freestyle as well. This frame project has been based mostly of the ideas of Shane and I have been throwing around. [...]

    omg intresting news :D
hope it wont be like epoch and never be selled tough.
AND IF GOD EXISTS THEN IT’S A SUSPENSION FRAME <3

  2. nice Says:

i hope its gonna be good.

  3. macca_Liverpool Says:

boring , ugly and with to many things to go wrong.

what the hell is wrong with a normal frame

i tell you all we want is some thing fast light strong and good looking

not mechanisms and fixtures that will only fall apart.

  4. Jeff Says:

I agree macca_Liverpool… It’s part of the reason why skateboarding is so successful… Keep It Simple Stupid. I like progression, but most people just want a quick, dirty and cheap solution. When the progression gets in the way of those three things it’s not going to work for 99% of the people… Back when I did an interview with Tom Hyser regarding Fiziks (after it’s demise), he had some interesting words about this subject: havenskate.com/interviews/Tom%20Hyser%20On%20Fiziks/

If rolling had a bigger market, maybe the 1% that’d use this frame would make it worthwhile, but for now it’s still a pipe dream imho.

  5. hoax34 Says:

Sorry to say but I also agree with Jeff and macca. When more people get into rollerblading again then it’ll be worth getting more companies in the industry. All these small local companies aren’t going to go anywhere without the backing of some major distribution and marketing like Tom Hyser said.

I reckon Ecs should wait and keep hold of the idea for now and unleash it when people are ready.

  6. slut Says:

i also agree but it doesnt seem that complicated. 2 sliders, 2 metal pieces and a h-block. “or even 5 wheel compatible”, 5 wheels… really isnt necessary. its an ok idea overall and can be improved and developed more along the way.

first off i was the first one in Cali to have this guys products. His able frames H-blocks are the shit. They’re heavy but slide so much faster than the other frames out there. His material is dope. However he did mess up on my M types so I can’t use them but I’m sure once I sand them down a bit they’ll be dope as well. If he’s making a frame get it. it’ll slide better than the elements and way better than 50/50. I’ll say this. no one likes change but change is the only thing that makes things better. Sometimes the Kiss method isn’t the best way to go. If that was the case then I guess our grinds should be simple. Everyone should only do frontslides. Difficulty makes things better as long as it works easy. A space shuttle isn’t a Kiss method, it’s very complex just like creating skates but the fact is as long as it looks easy or it’s easy to use then everything is great. You guys hate and don’t even know about this guy and have never used anything he’s made. Once the interview was out I hit him up on myspace and bought two h-blocks and want to get one for the F1’s I have. I feel that his product and company will do great. Once he’s able to get the weight down by half and yet keep the structural density the same then he’ll be a top dog in the frame world.

  8. Khaos Says:

thats not the actual look of the frame now there has been quite a few changes. Due to im working with Able right now on the project so i cant say much but i will when i can post up some more designs but we are still working on the project. The whole idea behind the project is to make a frame completely customizable straight down to the bolt system and look. Giving the rider the option to change the way the frame looks and feels when riding while still being easy to take apart and put back together. I will say that what you have seen so far is not the actual design just concepts of the idea while working in autocad. Now the material that i still use occasionally just to brush up on that note has some weight to it but slides very fast thats why im working with able to try to cut cost cut weight, and to make it affordable and throw are ideas both together into a frame to make it bad ass.

The ideas behind this frame is not just to appeal to the aggressive industry as well but all disciplines in one frame. The goal is to give the skaters what they want a light, affordable and customizable frame.

And another note we no longer go by ECS we go by Khaos. Cause thats what we are trying to do create, limitless possibilities.

  9. Khaos Says:

and on another note on your messed up blocks i will give you a refund on the kizer blocks just contact me and you can still keep the blocks.

  10. W.N.H 2 Says:

bro. Don’t sweat it. I’m about to order the F1’s as soon as I get the dough. A mess up on height is easily adjustable. you still kick ass so don’t sweat the small stuff. The fact that you roll and you’re trying to create a empire means that there’s going to be some perfecting of the whole system. The ables were shown at the second AIL and also at last years Championships. Everyone was like what the hell are those and I was like telling them how to get some of your stuff and that it’s like the best thing since wide soul plates. I’m gonna contact you on myspace, if you don’t mind I do design work and your ability to create is really good and I wanted to know if I can help as far as your structural design of the frames when it comes to heavy people.

  11. pete Says:

i think that the frame looks quite good, i like how they look for freestyle set up.
im telling u now that it is pointless making 5 wheel, no on wants that.

i am curious to see the final version. hopefully they wont be heavy.

  12. Jeff Says:

Best wishes to you on your project Khaos… I do like the idea of customization, but it just seems like it’s gonna have some limited marketability for now… Keep in touch with me and let me know how things work out! Good luck and keep it up no matter what anyone says. Peace.

  13. W.N.H 2 Says:

Robert. I know that you’re gonna make it. Bro, you’re smart as hell for this idea and being the only one doing it means that you and only you own the market on it. You have big things poppin and little things stoppin you so don’t let them stop you. While you’re creating this new frame with Able, create your own frame company that destroys able and kizer, and all of them while you’re at it. Be the biggest and best, not just another brand.

  14. hoax34 Says:

I’m not saying don’t do it. I’m not trying to hate on the frame. I think new ideas are great and the ideas behind this frame are good. I just think it’s pointless in trying to start anything revolutionary in rollerblading at the moment. The markets for things like frames and wheels seem to be pretty saturated at the moment, simply because there aren’t enough people rollerblading.

All I’m saying is that in my opinion it would be better to wait for a time when rollerblading is on the rise. In that time people who want to make new products can develop them and make them as good as possible.

  15. W.N.H 2 Says:

You know Hoax. That is a logical idea but the problem with that is what do you do to companies that try that. Let’s see. Fila came into our industry when we were doing fine and what happened to the Krusty, How about nike’s aggro skate. K2, Rollerblade is doing okay but the point is everyone wants to come in when it’s doing great, those who come in now though are going to have staying power cause they believed in our industry when no one else did. Yes it doesn’t make much busniess sense but neither does buying a house in today’s market yet those who are really rich still do it cause there is a sense to coming in at these times. I’m not downing you at all cause it’s a very logical way of thinking but it’s not a risk taking move and only risk takers become rich. Look at skateboarding.

The Great wall placed Danny way on the map to making serious money and now he has no worries. WE as a industry are risk takers but those who own businesses aren’t they’re all about the numbers. That being the case Robert is on the right track cause in the end he will be awarded for his sacrifice.

The only way this industry can become huge again is if we get global exposure for something that makes any and all skateboarders look like the pussies they are and getting the publicity and marketing to do it correctly the first time.

  16. cody sanda's Says:

hate or no hate, it’s still gonna come out.
And if it’ll bring a positive change to rollerblading, then im down with it.

  17. rt Says:

the krusty IS the realm It never died.

The ONLY thing that made skateboarding as big as it is today is marketing. Danny Way jumping the great wall is just a footnote like tony hawk doing a 900. The one thing that helped them out the most is the fact that anyone can figure out how to ride around on a skateboard in less than a month. The thing with our sport is that the basics take time to learn. Things like skating [the rolling around part], jumping, stopping, developing balance and muscles all take time. Most american kids [sorry but the US is the largest economy with the most disposable cash] are too lazy and they care about what others think too much to spend a year or two looking silly trying to learn the basics.

Rollerblading was never huge. There are more skaters today than there has ever been. In the mid ’90s the skateboard ind. was gaining speed and making tons of money. The huge sports companies had already failed in their attempts to crack in to that sport, so what did they do? They pushed a new sport into the spotlight to try to take some of the skateboard money, those companies thought they could beat skateboarding within five tears. When they failed to make the profits they wanted most of them ran leaving us where we are today, picking up the pieces.

These frames look like they will be very costly to produce. The 50/50 core is so simply made it is genius. It will be very hard to beat something that is as easy to make. The element looks pretty but does not work as well. The only issue with the core is the way it slides, when they find a better plastic that frame will be very hard to beat.

  18. rt Says:

one more thing. Why do people always overlook the fluidIII frame? It works. It slides good, comes with a good groove, and very rarely breaks even when used with an anti rocker setup.

  19. hoax34 Says:

Guess I’m just a bit negative about these things. I’m skeptical of new products lasting. It’s not because I think they’re bad but it’s all too easy to invest time and (more importantly) money into a good product that doesn’t go anywhere simply because of the state of the industry. No one can say it’s in a good state when companies like Mindgame go out of business and ‘pros’ are lucky to get $300 (or however little they get paid) a month.

There is a time for risks to be taken and I just can’t see that this is it.

  20. Khaos Says:

now i aggree with alot of points such as the built prototype that was made considering the fact that the prototype was never meant to be a final model. all that was meant buy it was to prove a point. All the designs you have seen so far are not the final designs so do not consider them as what the frame will look like i have already made numerouse changes in the designs. i really wasnt plannin on the photos ending up on rollernews becuase they were not the final designs. Some of the ideas are results of a brainstorming session does not mean they will be used just means they will be considered. I will post up more designs when we can finalize the designs, but i dont know when that will be. But when we do i will post them up.

Because someone shows the courage to accomplish something such as a design does not mean they are stupid for doing so. It just means they took a chance and risk on what they believed. Alot of the ideas where gathered from quite a few people in what they thought so i will not take credit for all their ideas but i will give credit to them when it is due.

I will agree that the prototype does look like shit but it was never really meant to be seen as a final decision. But other than that, keep it real and keep on rolling. Peace.
