DBTSC-6 : Imyta Bulgarian Qualifications
Article by Marco, Organiser of the event.
Where do I begin? The event was absolutely amazing. I never seen such beautiful inline skating before in a street competition. The comp was truly a worl level IMYTA Comp.
This was the fourth time Aisa Disaster had organised the comp and was to be the most successful. We had so many riders from so many countries including our own, Bulgaria. The skating was at is highest. We had amateurs and professionals alike from Greece, Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Germany, Austria, France, Switzeland and Bulgaria. In total we must have had around 60 competitors for the first spot.

I will not describe the tricks that went down in this article but in the next article. The competition took place on Sunday 20th of August on one of the hottest days this summer. The temperature was around 39-40c… the sun was burning everyone but this did not stop anyone from skating to their fullest.
I went and met with the “Balkan Tour Bus”, we loaded everyone by 14:30 and headed to Levski stadium were we met up with the other 2 SNICKERS BUSES… oh man.. these buses were amazing. Air condition and cool..perfect for the 39C weather we were having.. wished we could have watched the comps from inside the buses :) After our usual disorganised chaos where everyone went wondering around the place I finally managed to get everyone on the buses and we headed to SPOT1- DENITZA.

It was almost impossible to start the comp in spot1 as all the guys were going crazy in the “denitza” rail. The music was pumping on the background and the audience was glued watching all the amazing combos taking place. In between all the noise the disaster girls managed to register all the competitors and hand out bus passes. The SNICKERS support crew was busy giving away SNICKERS tees and water. Zayac and the two judges from Slovenia and France were busy making groups and creating the format for the comp. Finally around 15:30-16:00 we got underway with 5 different groups of up to 8-9 riders in each group. Lori got busy with her watch and started to time the groups for the judges. The judging was based on best performances.. so many skaters from one group could qualify.
Spot1 went amazingly smooth.
After an hour or so of watching some amazing skating in “denitza” and all skaters for spot 2 selected we packed the travelling circus… cleaned “denitza”.. got everyone back onto the SNICKERS BUSES and headed to spot2- NDK ledges.

I have to be honest that although I had taken all precautions necessary about skating NDK, I was still a little worried with security. An army of 150 inline skaters invaded NDK. We went immediately to the ledges and people started to practice. Meanwhile the judges created the groups that would participate. The crowd got larger and larger as many passers by got hooked watching the sick tricks taking place down the NDK ledges. We quickly began the competition and the groups were much reduced in numbers to around 6 people per group. It was very tight for judging.. and in some cases battles had to take place between individuals so the judgers could decide who would qualify for the finals. Amazingly we never saw one olicemen or security personnel, everything went totally smooth and soon we were on our buses onto spot3- the “stadion akademic”.
Here we were to find 2 nice almost perfect hand rails for the final showdown.
The 3 buses, ambulance, 150 people, cars decended out of nowhere onto “stadion akademic”. Even before it could begin it looked like we would be finished. The security man was extremely nervous and afraid of the sudden rush of people and got into a panic. He would not let us skate even though we had taken precautions. Things were looking a bit serious after a couple heavy-duty serious policemen arrived nd things were looking worse. Myself, Zayac and CASH tried desperately to assure the police and the guard everything was cool. After what seemed an eternity we were given 30mins to do the comp… hmm funny enough how 30mins actually look like 90mins.. the comp took place in full swing.
Immediately everyone got themselves organised and the competition restarted. The only words that come to my mouth is “AMAZING!!!”. It was totally awesome display of inline skating.. I could not believe what i was seeing. Things you see only in movies were happening 2mt in front of me. Cameras were rolling everywhere.. people were going mad taking picture. The crowd was totally wild and screaming like mad when they saw an amazing trick which every few seconds. The judges decided to have 2 finals.. and 2 riders from each group were chosen for a final battle. It was now around 9pm and there was no lights so we had to put a car in front of the handrails with highbeam on to light the place. It was well around 10pm in total dark by the time the comp finished.

The competiton was purely magic… I never seen such beautiful skating before. It was one of my best days in watching pure street comps.. there had to be one winner and it was Mathias Silhan but for me the real winner was “inline skating”. So Mathias qualifies for IMYTA Amsterdam and we shall try to get wildcard for Mili from Romania. His performance for sure deserves a place in Amterdam.
Thanks to everyone that made this possible! Specially Snickers and Aisa Disaster !!
