I really hope Haffey ends up getting a good audience for this, however it’s worked out.
Actually landing a straight air (as opposed to a superman frontflip into a fall) or even a big mute 360 will be much more representative of “our” sport.
Don’t get me wrong, Taig did his thing years ago, took vert to a new level at the time, inspired many in France to pick up and they’ve got a very strong scene, but what he does simply doesn’t represent where we’re at or the direction we’re going in.
Having a….I don’t like this phrase….but….”real” rollerblader hold the record will be good for publicity/exposure/people finding out about us. Hits on Haffey’s website, they see the B.L.A.D.E. games, they hear the names of the tricks, they see real rollerblading, they see the names of other real rollerbladers (so far Aragon, Farmer, Stockwell) they get inspired, bam, you might have another rollerblader at a skatepark and hopefully we can grow slowly and steadily with rollers owning some of the companies, rather than get sponsored by big timers who’ll pull the plug when shit hits the fan.

I’m too old to truly be vested in this kind of thing, but the feeling I get when I see what Taig Krhis does is that the spectacle of his stunts overshadows the rollerblading aspect of it. He’s just a “daredevil”. He could be using a scooter, for all people care.

Rollerblading is going nowhere with pros tapping curbs and wearing vests. big tricks and stunts promote the sport. replace the curb tapping and X-games mini type events with mega-ramp spectacles and more kids will start rollerblading again.

Overall Taig did this in an epic way to attract attention to rollerblading with amazing scenery, while Haffey is just going out hucking.
