Interview : Doug Urquhart of Misled Media

Thursday, September 7th, 2006

RW : Barely Dead is one of the most anticipated videos that I have heard about in my 8 or so years of Rollerblading. Does the fact that so many kids are expecting so much out of this video put any pressure on you to produce a great product?

DOUG : It explains why the film has not yet been released, seriously…! Here is some of the latest: Justin Eisinger and I have been taking our time perfecting the ultimate script. I’m working on upconverting all the archived material (ex. Hoax I & 2, Mad Beef master BetaSp’s) to DVCPRO HD via a TeraNex. I have to fit into open time slots at a local studio (Crawford.com) after hours to use the TeraNex… so I have to be patience at times. My Sony HDV camera is in So Cal right now as Carl Sturgess, Justin E, & Wes Driver help re-shoot interviews with Brian Shima and Jon Elliott. Matt Andrews is brewing up motion graphics… Perfection is key. We are not rushing anything on this project… but it is coming very soon. I promise!

RW : We saw amazing skating in Black Market including profiles on Julian Bah, Will Gordon, Montre Livingston, Brian Aragon, and Brent Hicks, who can we expect to see profiles of in Barely Dead?

DOUG : Barely Dead (the documentary portion) will not have any profile formats. However, throughout the film you will be acquainted with:

Chris Haffey, Alex Broskow, Cameron Card, Jon Julio, Azikewee Anderson, Shane Coburn, Chris Farmer, Jeff Stockwell, Mike Opalek, Jon Elliott, Julian Bah, Walt Austin, Robert Guererro, Michael Braud, Sean Keane, Pat Lennon, Dave Kollasch, Franky Morales, J.C. Rowe, Damian Wilson, Nick Wood, Arlo Eisenberg, Jess Dyrenforth, Tom Hyser, Brian Shima, Eric Shrihjn, Doug (a 67 year old ‘first-gen’ rec blader from Minnesota), Dave Carnie (oops…disregard, he rejected the interview!), & many more! Simply stated, amazing skating.

Don Bambrick Profile : Interview + Photos

Thursday, August 24th, 2006

Don Bambrick

quoting Mark V. of SixWonSix :

Don Bambrick is one of the new generation of skaters that was raised on rollerblades. Don was dropping 900’s at Airborne skatepark in Detroit when we was just 13. It didn’t take long for his street skills to catch up to his park skills, and that’s when Don started showing everyone where rollerblading was headed to.

Don has a killer combination of super hard tech switchups and the ability to lace the largest gaps in rollerblading history. Along with being on Sixwonsix, Don is the newest pro for Mindgame, and the youngest on both pro teams. So, keep an eye out because Don will be laying down hammers for years to come.

Dave Bell : Roll2Soul Interview

Sunday, July 30th, 2006
Dave Bell

Rollerblading defines about their names.

A person that thinks about rolling always has names in mind like Aragon, Farmer or Haffey.

Just a few people think about the “behind the scene” guys. Who are those people? What drives them to invest everything they have to push rollerblading?

In our new category `Industry Unrevealed´ we want to introduce you to these hard working, committed and fairly underpaid people.

David John Bell from Empire Distribution UK is the second to answer our questions.

Check out the interview with Dave Bell at Roll2Soul.

Shangaiist : Takeshi Yasutoko Interview

Tuesday, May 30th, 2006

Takeshi Yasutoko

Takeshi Yasutoko, aka the “Japanese Bullet” and “Samurai”, is a 19-year-old inline skating sensation. At 15, he became the youngest vert skater to medal at the X Games. Takeshi has a profound respect for his 22-year-old brother Eito, the only male skater to win three X Games gold medals.

Widely known as “the first skate family of Japan”, Takeshi and his brother have plans to guide their family business, Goodskates, after retirement. Shanghaiist caught up with Takeshi at the opening of Shanghai’s new SMP Skate Park, the biggest in the world. Aferward, we got a rare and privileged opportunity to skate with the Japanese Bullet.

Yasutoko Brothers

Watch Them Fly – Exclusive Interview with The Yasutoko Brothers (2002). by Venus Rae

My first initial thought of the Yasutoko’s brothers was graceful. I just arrived at the photographers’ ramp – and at that moment a blur motion in gray whizzed through the air directly in front of me. It took me a second to realize that this is one of the Yasutoko brothers – I’m not sure which one he was suspended in the air. He stayed there for a while, as if flying and then as fast and he got up he went down again, skating within the vertpipe.

Needless to say, I was already impressed. But who am I kidding, we’re talking about the Yasutoko brothers.

A brief history about them. Born and raised in Japan (although, growing up, they spend more time overseas than at their homeland), they got involved in the skating world at a very young age. Fast forward to their teenage years, they became instant hit in the world of agressive in-line skating, competing with the best the sport has to offer.

Australia, Parallel Interview

Wednesday, May 24th, 2006

Fishbrain

To me, Parallel is a family of good friends who enjoy rollerblading for what it really is, and that is fun. We all enjoy being in each others company and try to push Australian Rollerblading as much as possible in the right direction. Parallel consists of some of my greatest friends, which include Gavin Drumm, Rian Arnold, Tien Nguyen, Tim Bradley, Adam Wadeson and Simon Kirwan….

These 6 individuals are solely pushing the Australian rollerblading scene in the right direction. In terms of Parallel and what I hope it means to Australian rollerbladers, I hope that Australian rollerbladers see it as a step forward. A step forward in quality. A step forward in flavour. A step forward as a community. I hope that Australian rollerblader’s see that Parallel was created for them…and that they can proudly wear the name, as they see it can represent what they love best.

Ricardo Lino Interview

Tuesday, May 23rd, 2006

Ricardo Lino
^ Ricardo is now riding for Grindhouse

Being Portuguese, gives me the pleasure to share the same nationality as Ricardo Lino. Many of you may think that, I have the pleasure to see Lino as much as I can. Wrong! I think it’s even harder for Portuguese skaters to see each other! We all have to work, study, dating, dating and dating, skate when we can ( not as often as we want to) and still save some money to travel inside our expensive country! If we have many competitions, that’s good, because we know it early, so we sav A LOT!

Unfortunately that takes the time we need to know each other better and ride till the sun goes down. But hey, I got the opportunity to interview Lino, and asked him all the things I want to know and touch the magic life he is living. So I pull the sardine to my flame as we say it in Portugal and here is the result! From Portugal to the WORLD, ladies and gentlemen: RICARDO LINO!

Interview By Teigas Offline.

And Ricardo just told me that the Portugal IMYTA qualifications moved from 15th too 22th of july. Stay tuned on Rollernews for more infos !
