Carlos Montenegro: One Day NY, Edit

Close friend of mine Carlos Montenegro has been down w/ the movement since day one and out of everyone I’ve dealt with, he has been the most patient and motivated when it comes to building and gathering material.
Although the edit may or may not do him justice, anyone who has seen homie skate in person undoubtedly knows what he’s capable of. More to come soon. Hope you enjoy.
- David Toro.

Song: Ahmad Jamal – Death & Resurrection.

Thank you for the support fellas. I’m glad you enjoyed that. Thanks for watching.
I used a Canon XHA1 & 7d: 50mm 1.8 & a Vivitar 7mm fisheye lens for some shots.

Being artistic is one thing, but having an edit that is 4 and a half minutes long with that kind of music is soooo over the top boring. Don’t get me wrong, there were some great camera angles, beautiful shots and good skating for sure.
I just feel that the skating up until 2:45 was really mediocre and didn’t get that much better to keep interest, the music would have been nice had it not been for almost 5 minutes and the look of the videography from 2:45 to 3:13 was really inconsistent with the rest of the video which as a result took a lot away from the vibe of the edit.
I like the fact that this edit is VERY different from the normal dub-step/commercial rap edits that are posted all of the time where everything has to be a hammer, generic music is used and the tricks carry the edit through the lack of creativity on the filmers end.
The reason i felt the need to put in my 2-cents (and it is only MY 2-cents, if anyone disagrees thats cool) is because the opening shots, color grading and typography of the first 40 seconds really caught my eye and I felt like this edit had a LOT of potential to be something more than what it was.
However, I can appreciate anyone who is putting edits out in general, especially ones that try to push in new directions and do it for free! Thank you for that, MAD PROPS!

Nice censored douchebaggery going on above. The good ol’ insult sandwich technique.
Ill first compliment your efforts. Then tell you your shit is wack. Then compliment your efforts again.

Nice Edit. But how many kilos heavy is your body, that you need three pairs of skates at one Day?

It took me about 4 minutes to read and decipher what you were trying to get at. Then after reading it at about second paragraph, line one, word 9. I decided to think to myself wow. where is his link to his videos that he has made ?

Very poetic video. Keep up the good work. I liked the zero farf revert spin out. Have not a seen anybody do that trick in a long while.

I can’t stop laughing. I completely agree though. From Chapter 7 Verse 14 to 35 was really inconsistent with the rest of the spiel. And everything up to the 4th chapter I thought was really mediocre.
Sick edit by the way. So cool. Wish more people would try this sort of music, something timeless and contemporary, especially instrumentals. So cool David.
What WAS the song you used? You used the whole track, filled it out with 4 and a half mins of footage, start to finish. Well done.
Reminded me of seeing skating to “I Be Blowin” by De La Soul, that jazzy instrumental number from the start of VG4 that popped up again in the Best of VG.

@ Abba: You definitely made some good points. I too myself agree that their were many inconsistencies through out the edit. Overall, we had a lot of footage that had a lot of different vibes to them. It was an extremely difficult process to edit this. I think being a video editor in general is extremely hard. You seem to have a good sense of composition because most of your points were my thoughts exactly. Carlos’s skating is way above average none the less, but in terms of me capturing the essence of his skating, it was difficult for me. I’m learning as I go here but the only reason we went with the whole track is to put out as much as his old footage as we could in order to start fresh and build something even better. Thanks for the feedback. I’ll take it with a grain of salt. Thanks to everyone else who enjoyed and supported the edit.
