Kevin Yee Interview

What is the best part about working with Sean Sea?

The best part of working with Sean Sea is undoubtedly the work that comes out of it, Sean is one of the most creative filmmakers in the industry.

I’ve thought that for a long time before I even met him. I think that making skate videos that express not only the biggest trick but also the lifestyle that goes around it, whether its bullshitting in a car, drinking beers together, or wiling out and being young and free.

I think that Sean really understands what the rollerblading lifestyle is in a really deep way. When you work with Sean you begin to see his vision of the rollerblading lifestyle.

Sean’s proposition is that rollerblading is more than just the next best trick, that blading can be an all consuming, rich lifestyle that is really fucking cool and worth believing and documenting even if you are constantly reminded that most people in the outside world think you are lame.

No matter what anyone says about Sean, you can be sure that he is a badass dude who cares more about skating than almost anyone that I’ve ever met. [...]

  18. Azur Says:

I remember being lost and not knowing what was going on with the rollerblading industry, thinking that bad times were just a passenger for our little bubble. I remember trying as hard as I could to believe in “that thing” I loved was something i could rely on. That dedicated people had a place reserved somewhere if they tried hard enough. Young and naïve, tender and passionate thoughts…

*Then that preview for Barely Dead came out and confirmed what we all knew all along, the rollerblading industry was dead.

I remember suspecting plenty of my surroundings and questioned about the life a rollerblader should have for long time. I remember being just a part of a whole community that was either as lost as I was, or plain ignorant towards the obvious….

*Then that preview for The apple that fell far from the tree came out and confirmed what we all knew all along, the rollerblading industry and the lifestyle it portrayed were dead, and worst of all, fake. So believing in that thing became a bit of a bitter thing…

I remember saying to myself, well it was obvious, wasn´t it?
We all have to wake up to certain realities at some point, don´t we?
That didnt matter to me as far as my lifeplan was not to change one bit, rollerblading was to remain as the very epicentre of my life.

*Then that concept, the so called “Rabbit hole” kicked in. Inevitable, obvious, just impossible to dodge or escape from. Fuck sake, being homeless and feeding yourself from tricks will not fulfill you, If I knew it!

I remember thinking that rollerblading had reached a peak and that alternatives to different rickery were to become scarce and rare. That maybe we would have to get used to the curve of progression getting flatter as we moved on.

*Then Joey Mc Garry taught us how there are still hundreds of tricks to be done, and most importanly, how to detatch from the orthodox and stereotyped skating.

Our lifestyle is incredibly diverse and most importantly, we already have different niches that operate independenly from the “massificated” tendencies. These are the ones that will prevail if there was to be a second industry death. These are the real thing. These are the ones that are real, not the prefabricated, colour matching or with frikken colour under your feet, customised, orthodox tendencies the bipoli (an industry with two main heads) is pushing forward.

The relevancy of certain pieces of A/V in this sport/art is historic, and people will reference them in the future, non stop. Don´t miss out on it while it´s contemporary just because you are not ready to accept the change.

Jump with joy instead, celebrate the authenticity of it!

  19. Godzhira Says:

that shit with those dogs was wtf

  20. broybear Says:

    whats the tunes?

  21. gregory Says:

    sure genious
best edit i have seen all month
    all year

  22. Sean Sea Says:

THE DOGS IN THE WATER WAS A METAPHOR FOR EVERY TRICK WE DO, AND YOU ARE SAYING ITS SO FUCKED UP??? ANYONE WHO ACTUALLY SKATES GET IT OR NO?
