Romain Godenaire, badly hurt
Romain did a bad fall at the Air Fise Marseille ; he was hurt at the hips, elbows, jaw, head & ear ; he got the nose broken. He is ok and got out of the hospital few hours ago (Dec 10, 8pm GMT+1).

It looked like he clipped his boot at the foot of the landing ramp on the last jump, followed by a face first dive into the padding. He did that with no pads and still managed to walk away……? What’s this guy made of?

Amazing. And no, he didn’t fall. He just dived before hitting the wall. It was controlled, also you can’t compare that with Taig who didn’t roll at all (not even 1 meter/3feet) when Chris at least did it for like 40feet before he took a dive. Well deserved record!

TKs feet never even touch the landing ramps. falling after you’ve landed and rolled away is different, and better, than TK never landing period. TK slid for home like it was baseball @ both the Eiffel Tower and this last world record where he was wrapped up in more pads than a hockey player. TK FALLS AND FAILED . HAFFEY4PRES

Man, I’m too old to be vested in the “politics” of rollerblading, so I see no point in hating on a French dude for capitalizing on the sport, but, from a rational point of view, what Haffey did is just much more representative of Rollerblading. It was relatively low on hype, he actually landed the trick and though still a show, it was still nowhere near the spectacle of the Sacre Coeur jump.

Some really sick shit! Props for trying this shit, big up for landing the 28M.
But to be honest same kind of stuff as Taig did, for the big audience. And the 30M was far away from landing a trick. Therefore the jump Taig did in my opinion was way harder! And reached way more audience for our sport.
But all and all Taig and Chris are pushing the boundaries with all these Nitro Circus stunts!

is it really that much more expensive for events like this to put a big ass quarter pipe 20 feet after the landing ramp so you can actually tell if someone landed something? that really doesn’t seem any more expensive than some fancy cushioning system.

listen people…… I know its getting stupid how much we’ve all dissed on Taig…. But the fact is, Taig isn’t a rollerblader anymore. He only does stunts every once in awhile for attention… I fdont care who is American or who is French… Fact is, Chris Haffey is a REAL ROLLERBLADER. There is no doubt that he and Aragon are the best in the game, so if anyone is making waves for us, it shopuld be one of those guys, and not someone who is 90% retired.

Jesus you kids just can’t be happy with anything. Taig didn’t land it, whatever. End of the day, he exposed the public to rollerblading. You gotta realize the Nitro Tour, Taig and his Eiffel Tower deal, demos, etc are really for the public, not for rollerbladers. We have more invested in it because we do it, so we’re more critical. The public just sees these amazing athletes that do things they can’t, impressive things. It puts the rest of us rollerbladers in a good light and maybe, gets some kids on blades. You want to talk about getting new blood, it’s the way to do it. It’s how this sport was so big at one point – being in the public eye. Not a sparse core of fanatics. Because that is what we are. We believe in this sport so much, we’re in it because it’s a passion.
As for sponsors, let Taig make some money. This sport doesn’t pay anything. Let Redbull or whoever in the corporate world sponsor these guys. It’s a two way street. They plaster their brand for the public, pay for the events, and the skater walks away with some cash. Would we all be so anal about the gum commercial a while ago with rollerbladers? Or Capri Sun many a year ago with Fabby in a commercial? It isn’t easy looking at rollerblading ‘dumbed down’ but ever try explaining rollerblading to your family, significant other and they give you a blank look? That’s the public. They don’t know anything about rollerblading. So some public exposure does us all a world of good.

I watched Haffey and Taig’s stunts,.. this air launch and the Sacre Coeur drop. Yes these are just crowd stunts and breaking records and are far from eliminating world hunger, global warming, or our energy dependence on oil,.. BUT from comparing the two stunts, Haffey’s launch is far more impressive imo. I’m not dissing Taig though, he has 7 balls in his nut-sack and I have only 2, no way would I drop into that huge quarter-pipe, but it just didn’t seem that spectacular to drop in and then slide down the ramp, and even if he did roll the way down. In both stunts, if they extended the landing ramp for a quarter mile, both Haffey and Taig would just need to roll far enough and then fall to their knees. The landing area and speed reduction setup for both stunts makes a difference. imo Haffey’s stunt is more impressive.

Taig was rolling downhill while Haffey had no space to get speed and a flimzy ramp. If anything using the pulley system was more difficult. Taig’s air was cleaner and the image of him flying over Paris was creative to say the least but Haffey’s landing was more solid. The fact that he dove forward shows that he had no intention of doing a butt slide. I wish he didn’t get wrecked so he could’ve made another attempt and clean up his air but all in all I’d have to say this was a better accomplishment.

There is no such thing as diving into a wall in a “controlled” way. Haffey fell when he hit the transition. He could have rolled away like he did the first jump.
